I wondered in on a day when not many things were open. It's a nice location in downtown Staunton…read more The menu yielded some classics, and I was able to get an herbal, spicy chana masala along with a fresh tasting bread and a delicious potato-based appetizer. The menu had plenty to offer for special dietary needs. A picture of the red fort graced the area, giving a sense of place. I generally find Staunton a worthwhile place to stop for food.

They have Indian beers available, so I tried Taj Mahal (it's a light lager). For my meal, I ordered lamb bhuna, and they let you pick your level of spiciness. I opted for medium-hot and it was just right. The lamb was flavorful and tender. And they serve your food with a heaping bowl of basmati rice. I was with my mother, and she ordered a mixed grill. It had a little bit of everything--lamb, chicken, shrimp, fish. It was well-seasoned. I also ordered a side of mango chutney and some naan. The naan was soft and buttery, and the chutney was delicious--it was also sweet enough that ordering dessert became unnecessary. The restaurant was decorated with beautifully embroidered decorations depicting Indian scenery. There were also statues as well (see photos below). The one thing that could raise this review from 4 to 5 stars is that the service was rather ordinary. Not bad, just ordinary. I highly recommend this spot to lovers of Indian cuisine!
