Coconut Thai Kitchen is just off of Old Trail in Crozet. The front door actually faces the parking lot in the back. The restaurant is not big but the flavors are and the service is quiet and attentive. I had the Kao Soi dish, which is in a yellow curry sauce, full of flavor and egg noodles and complemented with a crunchy noodle ball decoratively placed on top of the bowl for texture, looks and style. This dish uses cilantro to create a very good flavor profile with the red onions and pickled mustard. My dining partner had the Choo Chee Red Snapper, which is a battered and fried large and curved shape fish. The presentation is attractive and the breading is light and airy that works well with the delicate fresh taste of the snapper. The sculpted fish is placed on a bed of lettuce leaves to create yet another pretty dish. The use of chili is enough for flavor that meshes with lime leaves and a red curry sauce. I always come here when I am home visiting my parents. The food is delicious, the menu isn't ridiculous, and whether you dine in or take-out, it is always a positive experience. The staff are always friendly! This is the only good thing to come out of old trail. I grew up here and appreciate not having to drive into C-ville to eat Thai. I came here with my girlfriends on a Thursday night around 7pm. It was super busy and it's not a big restaurant so gotta get there early to get a table! This is a great Thai place in Crozet. We ordered the Green Curry with chicken ($15), Thai Fried Beef Starter ($9) and the Clay Pot ($19). While I as a little apprehensive of the clay pot it actually turned out to be the best dish. The Green Curry was spicy but not too spicy for me, but my friend thought it was a little too spicy. I wish there was a choice to replace the rice with noodles as both of us don't really eat rice. Finally, the Thai Fried Beef starter is a skip. While it was pretty good it reminded me of asian styled beef jerky with rooster sauce on the side; this was not really worth the $9. They have a little outdoor area but since the area faces the parking lot it is somewhat of a detraction. If only they had access to the other side of the building, the outdoor area would be terrific as it has the mountains in the background. They only have one table next to the flowerbox that has a quasi obstructed view of the mountains. Service was great and attentive. This is a nice little Thai place in Crozet. It had pleasant decor, though the service was pretty slow. The fresh rolls were excellent and the coconut shrimp was very good. The crab fried rice was also tasty, but the cashew tofu was quite mediocre. Tofu was tasteless, sauce was overly sweet and there were hardly any cashews. Cute and clean inside. There is outdoor seating next by the building; I would sit outside if I could, since this restaurant is in a fairly spacious and "scenic" location. Pad thai was sweet, maybe slimy depending on who you ask. It has a more subtle sweetness/flavor which is appreciated. Doesnt necessarily leave me feeling sick because of the sweetness that I know some thai restaurants tend to lean towards. Ordered medium spice level, but didnt really end up tasting any spice at all: options were no spice, mild, medium, spicy. Entrees come out with free side of salad which was a nice touch. Quantity is adequate I would recommend dine-ins, my experiences with food quality for to-go orders have not been too great. TIP: This restaurant has yet to be claimed on Yelp by the owners of the restaurant, especially since this is a fairly new restaurant. Last I ate here, they weren't able to be found on google maps either, but it seems like that's been updated with around 20 Google reviews. And here's why: Food: A Every dish comes out not only aesthetically pleasing, but also in a timely and fairly expedient manner. We ordered the pork belly, gyoza, pad see yew and drunken noodles. The pad see yew and gyoza were my favorite dishes, hands down. The spice was on point and the noodles cooked a little al dente, which was amazing. Cannot recommend the gyoza enough. Price: B The price per dish is a little more than the average dish, especially other Thai dishes (~$1-3 more depending on the entree and side dish). But given the quality and quantity per dish, the price was still solid. Staff: A Staff was cordial and friendly and they best part was we didn't realize they closed at 230pm, but they let us come in 10 minutes before closing and just closed the restaurant while we took our time to eat. They didn't hurry us or pressure us. It was just an overall great experience and they made it worth it. Parking: B+ Coconut Thai Kitchen does share the parking lot with several other shops and restaurants, however they have four, double-sided rows of spots wide enough for large trucks. Dropped by for dinner 6/14/24 with the family while at Misty mountain p . Enjoyed a green curry w/chicken, the wife had the Chou Soi both of which were EXCELLENT. Both came out hot and were plentiful and absolutely scrumptious. The drinks were tasty, the service was on point. I base my reviews of Thai restaurants on their green curry. The green curry was great. Umami, sweet, a jolt of spice and lots of chicken. I was very impressed and this place has replaced my favorite Thai restaurant at home as my favorite green curry. Go. These folks know how to make quality food. The portions are generous and worth the dollars you spend. Drunken noodle is the best in the area. Fresh cut veggies nothing frozen. They give you 3 servings of crispy rolls. Even the shredded cabbage served with it is edible and the dipping sauce homemade. Im a fan! I take friends here. An update.. Had lunch with friends. Was great. Went back a few weeks later and things were not so good. The food was not on par with earlier visits. Tasted cold and lacking the flavor on earlier visits. The restaurant needs some work on the dining area. Walls are dented, paint missing, dirt and foot marks on the molding under the bench seating. And the restaurant has an ant issue as well. Coconut Thai has been a much needed and wonderful restaurant in this small community and I hope that, as their business has grown, they are not losing track of the quality of the meals and the appearance of the restaurant. read more

We eat here at least once a month and generally love the food (hence the three stars), but this last experience will probably keep us away for a while out of principle. We found a large clump of hair in one of our take-out dishes and called the restaurant to address it. We (presumably) spoke to the manager or owner about it in hopes that they would accept the feedback and refund the cost of the dish. Instead, the person argued with me suggesting that maybe it was a piece of plastic from the packaging as if having plastic in the food made the situation better (). Terrific Thai food, worth a visit when in Crozet We chose this spot based on Yelp reviews and are so glad we did. The location is small, tucked away in a housing development, so you have to be looking for it. We arrived early on a Tuesday evening, around 5:30, and soon all the tables were filled and a constant stream of folks came in for takeout orders. We had the green papaya salad and vegetable spring rolls which were both excellent- the rolls were delicate and crispy, and the papaya salad was tart, not too spicy, and had a bed of mixed greens which I'd never had before in a green papaya salad, but added to the dish. It came with a few shrimp that were delicious- hot, crispy, tender. For entrees- braised beef noodle soup, shrimp pad thai, and spicy eggplant. Soup broth was flavorful and rich, beef was tender but had a nice chew to it, and the portion was enormous- we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Pad thai was good. The spicy eggplant was my favorite- beautiful bright purple eggplant pieces, tofu, and a few kinds of spicy peppers. Also, the lychee iced tea and coconut water were delightful.
