The owner talked about how the ticket only said wash and nails. I could leave the dog there for the rest of the day and they would do it but my dog hadn't really needed it. The owner went on to say that if I wanted to bring my dog back in 3-4 weeks, she would just do just the haircut. 4 weeks later, I set up an appointment for just a haircut, and confirmed it right then and there - just a haircut. Yes, they understood. I then confirmed again when I dropped the dog off. They understood. When I picked them up, they had done a full groom, which looked fine but wasn't what i asked for. The owner implied I had misunderstood, but wouldn't address that she had said I could come back for just a cut, and she would not answer questions about why her staff had agreed repeatedly to just a cut. She just kept saying she didn't understand the confusion, and I had to pay $150 because they had done a full groom. she wasn't even aware of how much they charged for a full groom at first. She discounted 20%. Her response to me saying I wouldn't be bringing her my business anymore was, "That's fine". This business is not registered with the BBB. I recommend you go elsewhere, but get everything in writing if you bring your animal here.

Sugar Maple Farm K9 Boarding and Day Care - Large, safe space for all day doggie play!

We've boarded our family dog, Joey, with Sugar Maple multiple times over the last few years…read more Jennifer and her family are kind, welcoming people that have been very accommodating over the years. Joey is always excited when we are pulling up the driveway to SM! While away this most recent trip we changed our plans to extend our vacation, Jennifer allowed Joey to extent his stay which made our time much more relaxing and enjoyable! Upon pick-up Joey was happy, healthy and clearly had been well cared for during his stay.

Before choosing Sugar Maple Farm, we spent a lot of time researching the best possible boarding…read moreoptions in Virginia. The abundance of 5-star reviews reassured us, and we even scheduled a one-night trial stay to test it before our longer family trip. During that visit, we were promised strong communication, regular photo updates, and a high standard of care while we were away. Sadly, our actual experience was the complete opposite. While traveling in Asia, we were told we'd receive regular updates. Instead, we got only three photos over a span of 10 days--and only after multiple follow ups and texts from our side. The lack of communication and unease made it difficult for any of us to enjoy our trip and we knew something was not right. When it came time for pickup, the owner was not even present. Just a few hours before we landed, we received a text informing us that our dog was injured and her teenage son would be there for pick up. There was no explanation, no phone call, no attempt to take responsibility, and not a single follow-up to check on how she was doing after. It felt cold, negligent, and deeply unprofessional. We later learned the injury was a torn ACL requiring surgery. What's most upsetting is that we had clearly disclosed a prior ACL injury in the intake paperwork--on the opposite leg. That information was either ignored or not reviewed at all. There was no transparency, no apology, and absolutely no concern for how serious the injury was. We chose Sugar Maple Farm because we wanted a safe and trusted place. When something went wrong, there was no accountability--only deflection. That trust was completely broken. It's devastating to watch our dog struggle with pain and limited mobility, and to know she now faces a 12-15 week recovery from a surgery that may have been preventable with proper care. We came home expecting to see her happy and healthy. Instead, we're managing a serious injury with no answers on what happened. If you value your dog's safety and well-being, I urge you to look elsewhere. Sugar Maple Farm may have glowing reviews, but our experience was proof that when things go wrong, this facility does not step up.

Sondi is still able…read moreto fit my cats in when we have a last minute trip (even over the holidays), and her rates are very reasonable. I know that when I'm away from home, my cats are well taken care of. I've had a number of cat sitters over the years, and all have been excellent (minus one I had early on, who I wasn't sure actually came to the home and never sent pictures when I asked). I suspect that some of the bad reviews are for pet sitters, like the one mentioned above, that are now long gone. Still, you can meet with the sitter ahead of time, and I'd assume you could ask for a new sitter if you don't fully and completely trust the one assigned to you. If you need a pet sitter you can fully and completely trust, I'm particularly happy with my current sitter Sam(antha) -- who I've been using 5-10 times a year for the past four or so years. Samantha loves cats, and treats my cats like her own while I'm gone. When I check in on the cat camera, I'll find her playing with my young cat while simultaneously petting my older cat in just the way she likes. Additionally, Samantha reliably makes sure my older cat takes all her medicine. And she cleans up the older cat's messes (sigh) without complaint so that I don't come home to a home covered in cat poop. Plus, she always sends me pictures and updates, so that I don't have to worry when I'm gone. To boot, she's just an incredibly kind person. She's even checked in on me and the cats when there is bad weather, or something else going on in my neck of the woods. Whenever I have friends looking for a cat sitter, I always recommend AuPurr. They know, and love cats, and for that reason, I know that I can trust them with the lights of my life.
