We brought our two dogs there on a very hot day and we knew we couldn't bring them inside so we sat on the covered porch right outside the door. We ordered a $25 premium flight to share but we were made to come into the tasting room one at a time for each of the seven tastings. We weren't offered the ability to have all seven (or even two) at a time to take outside so I had to keep coming in and out. I honestly stopped even sitting down to try them . They also were not good wines in our opinions. We weren't told anything about the wines except for which was which as we were given each individual glass. Epic failure this place. Anytime I'm in the Shenandoah Valley I always make a point to stop in here. They're typically open during the week, whereas other vineyards might not. The wines have always been enjoyable to me, but I recently learned that Michael Shapps has bought this vineyard and I'm sure they'll get better! I look forward to returning in upcoming years to see how he changes or improve things. The venue is nice, they have plenty of inside/outside seating. Prices are decent. One thing I learned is to just enjoy every minute of life! After horseback riding in fort valley ranch I decided to go sip on some wine, lucky me Shenandoah Vineyards was less than 10 mins drive. We all know shenandoah area is breathtaking so imagine a winery facing the Massanutten ,fresh air and sipping on amazing wine? Well you are almost in heaven! It's a Wednesday and wineries are usually not as crowded , there was about 3 other groups. The winery is medium size , ground floor, two patios . I walked into the tasting room and was greeted by a charming lady, you could see the smile through her mask (jk) but u could tell cause her eyes were sparkling! I decided to do the tasting which was $8.50 for 6 wines, 3 whites and reds. The flight list included 2017 Chardonnay, 2018 Blanc, 2017 Rosé, 2017 Cab Franc , 2017 Carbenet Sauvignon and NV petit Verdot. I decided to stay on the second floor were the view was breathtaking! I was the only one so I decided to play some music (yes the volume was low ) . My favorite wines were the Carbenet Sauvignon and Blanc. Decided to buy two bottles to go. When I said I the view is breathtaking and peaceful, it's an understatement!! I only did the tasting since I had a long way to drive home. I would recommend anyone, take some time solo, couple, or with friends drive down to shenandoah visit two or three wineries on a weekday and stay for a couple days, you won't regret it! The view here is STUNNING. I loved sitting up high outside we got a large table to play board games on and take in all the sights and sounds. It is so peaceful here. Being there almost felt like I was inside a storybook, it is so perfectly breathtaking here! This was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday. 3.5 stars, but will round up in this case. Totally unpretentious winery, which just happens to be the second or third oldest (depending who you ask) continuously operated winery in the state! With that kind of background you know they're doing something right. $5 or $10 tasting options; 15 acres under vine. The wines aren't fancy but they did go from decent to petty good. I admit; it's hard to separate my visit from the beautiful drive to get here, so my judgment might be a bit clouded. But I really do love the Shenandoah area, and the wines here are definitely under-appreciated. Plus you can't beat the prices; the most expensive were low $20 range, except the desert wine. As for the wines: Whites: The 2013 Reserve Chardonnay had more toasty-ness than oak, which is a good thing. The 2013 'regular' Chard had more of a granny smith palate. The 2013 steel-based dry Reisling was OK. The "Rebel Red" table wine is (surprisingly) served both room temperature and chilled, and it does make a difference. But my favorite was the very complex Chambourcin, which is no small part of why this place rounds up to 4 stars. It had a fruity nose but woodsy-spicy finish. It was good enough I had to change plans and have lunch here, with a glass of this. I also loved the small homey feel to the place, which is still located in a Civil War-era barn. It's not a big event-area like some Loudoun county wineries, but makes up for it in charm. read more

We wanted to get out the house from being cooped up for Covid-19 and decided to do some social distancing at Shenandoah Vineyards. Best decision ever! We were greeted by Donna who was simply amazing! She was very welcoming and upon arrival thanked us for coming! That was such a warm feeling to hear! Especially after being in the house for months. I can't express in words the feeling that was! To hear a business tell you....Welcome, I'm glad you came..She was just so delightful. We met several people there that day that were just awesome! I don't know if everyone was nice because of cabin fever, but I like it! The wine was very good and the view....that view...Wow...go for the wine and the staff! Worst 4 hours I have ever driven for a dive. Stopped by around 5:30 pm from a long trip from DC. Website shows open until 6 PM. Found the owners sitting outside drinking wine and they watched me walk up the stairs and go to the door and it was closed. They didn't even get up out of the chairs to help me buy a bottle of wine , or even greet me.. as I was leaving they watched and laughed. I would never go to this place again .. Delicious wines, Beautiful vineyard and amazing host! We stopped at this winery on our way to Virginia Tech. I am so glad that we did because it turned out to be a great experience. The vineyard was still frosted because of the cold whether but the seating outside was perfect as you get lot of sunlight. We opted for tasting which was 8$ per person. The host was very interesting lady. She told us the background of the winery and how she met the owner. The story will spark instant loyalty towards the vineyard. Regarding tasting, most of vines were interesting however the rebel red was the one that stands out. Its red wine yet it doesn't have that okay acidic character. It was a perfect picnic wine and we ended up buying two bottle of that and had our little picnic in the balcony. After a wonderful weekend with some friends, we decided to stop by this vineyard for a wine tasting. Many bottles, glasses, and hours later, we all walked away with a desire to return. It wasn't just the wine, which was absolutely wonderful (I recommend the Chambourcin). It wasn't just the wonderful view and weather. It was mainly the hosts. They made us feel absolutely welcomed, even in this time of COVID. They had set up outdoor seating which accommodated our medium-sized group very well. They came out to refill any of our drinks, kept the bottles coming, and gave us an experience we wont soon forget. Suffice it to say, the wine was excellent but it was the remarkable and friendly service that will make me and my friends return. read more

Loved this winery! The staff is super welcoming and friendly. The tasting room is little, but cozy and they make it work. You can try 5-6 wines for $5 and then purchase bottles and enjoy them on site or take them to go. The dry Riesling was my favorite, and at $22 I found it to be a good buy. They have 3 picnic tables in the front outside and a few more tables on their second floor deck. We had a large group and they let us sprawl out around their grounds and even gave us a frisbee to get a game going. They have salami, cheeses and crackers for sale. A group of six of us visited this winery during their 31st annual Wine Festival. The admission was $10 per wine taster, and $5 per non-taster. The tasters got a glass with admission, but they wouldn't give our friend a glass since she didn't taste. We still have absolutely no idea why they charged her to simply set foot on their property, because the Wine Festival itself didn't warrant that charge. At the Tasting Tent, they really rushed us through, and the lady couldn't answer our questions. It was rather strange, but the wine slushy was amazing. Another winery found along a winding road in rural Virginia ... The winery has a nice selection of wines and we really liked the Shenandoah Blanc and bought a bottle for home consumption. Like many other wineries in the area, they have a tent set up for weekend music, which I wish we could fit into our schedule. This was the third and final stop on our afternoon tour of wineries in the Shenandoah valley. I am partial to this winery in particular, as this was not my first time here. However, I can safely say that this is my favorite winery in the area! The location is beautiful, as the winery sits up high so that you can sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the vines. The ladies that work here are genuinely warm and friendly, and they care about supporting the business. The owner, Emma, wasn't there on this particular afternoon, but I had a chance to meet her on my last visit. We went for the full tasting ($10) which included 14 wines: 4 whites, 6 reds, and 4 dessert wines. It's interesting to note that the reviewer below talked about not receiving any kind of palate cleanser. We had "scheduled water breaks" (no, really, they called them that) and were given chocolate chips with the second to last wine. Very interesting... If you only purchase a couple of things, I highly recommend the 2012 Shenandoah Blanc (white), the 2010 Chambourcin (the owner and her husband championed the wine for the Shenandoah area), the 2010 Rhapsody in Red (one of their more famous wines), and the Raspberry Serenade (dessert wine). I took home three bottles on this trip, and easily could've bought more, had I not held myself back! This winery does exactly what it is supposed to do: make fantastic wine. Combining that with a great location, friendly people, nice atmosphere... what more can you ask for? read more

She didn't really seem to know anything about the wines and even said that the composition of one of the blends was a "secret". I have never heard of that before. If you like dry wines, you will not like the wines here. They were overall pretty bad. If you like sweet wines, sure go for it. Also, the name "Rebel Red" for a wine is offensive to anyone that does not believe in the merit of the confederacy or that the Civil War is over. I was pretty taken aback when I saw this. read more

While I was vacationing in the area, I discovered that there were some local vineyards where I could taste wine, so my group made its way to the winery for an hour or two of wine tasting. I was really impressed with the price-- for $10, I got to keep the glass, try all of the wines made at the vineyard, and all of the wines were paired with delicious food (the cucumber dill dip was heavenly). The wines were also quite tasty. We tried four whites, four reds, and three dessert wines. I really enjoyed their award-winning Chardonnay as well as their Rhapsody in Red-- I ended up buying a bottle of the latter to take home. I'm not really a fan of dessert wine, but the food pairings were done so well that I could enjoy all of the wines while munching (even if I didn't prefer the wines by themselves)! read more

My girlfriend and I spent a few days in Edinburgh visiting her step-dads family. We spent some time seeing the local sights when we came across this vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley, we just had to stop in. As luck would have it they were just about to have a wine tasting so we stuck around and enjoyed their various creations. Their merlot is a very good smooth drinkable table wine that would go well with a porterhouse or served just by itself. It's the kind of good wine that you could enjoy if it were chilled while relaxing on a porch or your backyard with some snacks. I also recommend the Raspberry Serenade. I'd like to say we enjoyed the wine back in our hotel, but that was an awful experience while I'll have to share in another review...now that I think of it. read more

All about it! It's quite a hike if you're not in the area, but we were visiting Bryce Resort for the weekend and came across this winery. The service was phenomenal - the ladies were so sweet and gave us a good lesson on the history of all the vineyards in the Shenandoah Valley. Their "Medium Riesling" was delicious! I love this place! It's friendly welcoming and clean. The staff is super friendly. TC is the best. We visit atleast once a year for a tasting and to stock up on shanandoah blanc..this most recent visit we tried fiesta in the crock pot...omg it was like love in a glass! I found my new favorite. We were in town for a weekend getaway and decided to give this winery a try after hearing about Michael Shaps purchasing the place. I'm so excited to see the next chapter for this winery. The tastings are all Shaps' wine... which are excellent and affordable, considering the quality. It was sleepy the day we visited, but the grounds are beautiful and the tasting room/indoor area is lovely and comfortable. Outside food and kiddos welcome. Definitely hit up this winery and keep it on your watch list as Shaps is in leadership. read more

Though I will admit that I am new to wine, I was very impressed with Shenandoah Vineyards. As you are walking up the steps to enter you are surrounded by grape vines with grapes hanging on them. It was beautiful! When we walked in we were greeted by a lovely woman who was in charge of the tasting and register. I wish I had gotten the ladies name because I was so impressed with her knowledge of what she was selling, and also with her care free attitude. She made all the difference and made the experience even more pleasurable. As for wait time, I can't really say because we went on a Monday, so there was only 1 other couple there so the wait time was zero. I told her that we prefer white and sweeter wines. She knew exactly what to have us try. I was most suprized that she wanted us to try a red wine. She said that it was a red whine for white wine people. It was delicious! She also had us sample a slush that was made from a strong red wine. I really don't care for red, but it was delicious. They sell the slush mix right in the store so it couldn't have been any easier. I highly recommend stopping by if you have a moment. Even if you don't like wine all that much, the little shop had other wine themed items for sale - perfect for someone you know who likes wine. read more

The cutest winery and vineyard ever! So glad we stopped in after sitting in way too much traffic. We were greeted by a very kind young man and he hosted our tasting of all of the wines offered by Shenandoah Vineyards. The wines were very tasty and we ended up purchasing a couple of glasses and some cheese/meat to enjoy the patio upstairs. I like this location because it was very quiet....we were the only guests there for most of our tasting. We were able to take as long as we want, ask all the questions we had and really enjoy the experience. I hope to stop in again one day soon. read more

Not that great, but a more than respectable outfit. The third oldest winery in Virginia. Started in 1976, and you get how that's important out of some of the wines. The age of the vines creates a bit more depth out of some of the reds, most notably the Chamborcin. That's there best wine, and I'd recommend trying it. That said, they have a lot of different wines, I can't remember how many, but it was a lot of options. The winery itself has more items for sale than most of the wineries. This includes jams and cheeses, etc. Very easy to get to, so if you're making a trip up/down I-81, stop by and see what you think. read more

I came here on a Sunday afternoon for one of their wine-food pairing/tasting events which was only $10, got to keep the glass, and enjoyed every single moment of it. We got to try 12 of their wines and about three of them were award winning. I mostly enjoyed the Rhapsody Red red wine and also the kindness of the pourers. The owner is a sweet old lady who knows how to joke around and put on a great event. There were about 5 cheeses, a few dips, fruit, cookies, hershey kisses, and several kinds of chips. We had a very nice Sunday afternoon here with some friends. The tasting was five dollars and ran the gamut from dry reds to a sweet raspberry dessert wine. Some of the wines were very enjoyable. I thought it was funny that the sommelier apologized for the dryness of some of the wines, since those were actually the best things he poured. I guess the clientele here prefers a very sweet wine. The folks that worked here were very friendly and accommodating, especially since we had our two-year-old daughter with us. After the tasting, we got some cheese and a bottle of wine and had a picnic (with food we brought ourselves) at one of the beautiful picnic spots on the grounds near the vineyard. Probably one of our favorite wineries in the area! We stopped on a whim after a trip back to the DC area from Roanoke, and we are really glad we did. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and poked around the cute tasting room until the gentleman doing the tastings could take us. There was ample seating downstairs, upstairs, and on the porch (both upstairs and down), so we planned to do a tasting, get a glass of wine and a snack and chill out on the porch. The wines were all very good, and in addition to ringing up our wine bottle, individual glasses of wine, and snacks, we were told that we could walk through the vineyard as well (which we did). We had a lovely late afternoon lunch of wine, cheese, salami, and crackers, and walked through the vineyard to see the grapes. It was a fabulous time, wonderfully non-commercial, and worth the stop.
