We had a shaky start, but once we were through all that, I couldn't be happier. They set it up to run a few minutes every Monday and they maintain it once a year. We moved into a house in September 2022 that came with a whole home generator. We serviced (oil change, oil filter, new battery, etc.) the generator in March 2023 and the technician noted that all was in working order. On August 9, 2023, the generator was running its test cycle when smoke started billowing out and the smell of burning oil filled the air. We inspected the engine to find the oil cap was no were to be found and hot oil had sprayed and pooled all over the inside of the generator cover. The only logical answer we can think of is the oil cap was not installed properly and each test cycle caused the oil cap to slowly unscrew itself due to the vibrations resulting in a blow out when it finally blew off. We called Shepp to explain the issue in hopes they would send a technician out to inspect the generator. They noted the visit would cost $250 for the first 30 minutes and additional fees for each hour after citing we never signed the service agreement which would have discounted the service call to $92. The mere idea of paying for them to come to our house and fix the issue they created was preposterous. Not once did they take responsibility for their technician being negligent with the oil cap or offer to inspect the issue and then discuss a price to fix it. We decided not to sign the maintenance agreement because $209 as a yearly fee for an oil change and spark plug change is outrageous and exorbitant. Even if we had signed the agreement, it would have cost $92 for them to come out and inspect the issue and determine that it was in fact their wrongdoing. We can do all these tasks ourselves no different than if it were a car engine. We were able to clean the generator of all the oil, refill the oil reservoir and run multiple test cycles to ensure all was in working order. Overall, their customer service was less than satisfactory and we would look elsewhere for generator servicing. read more

Just a note to say thanks to Shepp and their fantastic team of technicians, 2 of whom spent the day at our house yesterday installing, configuring and training us on the use of a Generac 16kw whole house backup generator. As is the norm for our home, it's always a little more difficult due to the lack of a basement, requiring everything to be run in the crawl space under the house. They performed admirably, completing an otherwise difficult job in an efficient manner, detailing the changes to our house 'grid' and what to be aware of as far as backup generators go. Both Brian and Joe were a pleasure to have at our home, which turned out to be nearly an 8hr job, start to finish. On a cold, blustery day they seemed unaffected by the conditions, working methodically and taking the time to explain just what was happening whenever I inquired about a particular item. In addition to cleaning up and consolidating some extraneous grounds in our main panel, they left the work area clean and nicely buttoned up before leaving the job site. Ya just never know what you're gonna get when having contractors over to do some work; some are rushing, some are moving slowly, some seem like they'll never get the job done or, at the very least, get the job done in accordance to the initial proposal/estimate. In this particular case, I couldn't think of anything else they could have done to exemplify the phrase 'Service Excellence'. Top notch and highly recommended, and entertaining to boot. Thanks to all at Shepp, especially Brian and Joe; couldn't ask for anything more from initial appointment and consultation to pulling out of our driveway at the end of the install. I decided to go with Shepp for my generator because they're an authorized Generac dealer which I figured would be better if I had any warranty issues. I never regretted that decision. They were knowledgeable about their product, the technicians were very neat and pleasant, everything went very well. And they were actually cheaper than the other estimate I got for a smaller generator. I was very happy with the whole experience. read more
