I contacted The Shambles because of a recommendation on our neighborhood social media site,…read moreNextDoor. I'm hearing impaired and prefer text or email communication, so I contacted The Shambles using Facebook Messenger and received this immediate response: "Thanks for messaging us. We try to be as responsive as possible. We'll get back to you soon." I requested a text message reply and promptly received contact from an employee. I sent photos of one set of chairs in need of refurbishment. That employee immediately called me, which might have been welcomed if I were a hearing person, but then again, if any customer preferred telephone contact they would not request text or email. The only positive was that the employee advised they do not refurbish that particular style of chair and offered the information for another local business that could handle the work. I replied a thank you for the referral and photos of 2 more furniture sets in need of restoration, requesting estimates. The reply I received was tinged with annoyance... which is why they received 1-star from our interaction. I know for a fact they could replace and recover the seats on my bar stools, but she indicated they don't work on aluminum chairs... I guess she saw the metal back and made assumptions instead of asking questions; not a good business practice. Next she quoted $550 to strip and refinish the "redwood" pieces, which is ridiculously high! I could buy nicer new pieces for $550. But the nail in the coffin was when she stated "If you want to discuss further, please call our shop at 317 894 7075 as this is my personal cell phone." I do business where I'm treated well and I don't have to demand accommodation for my disability. Her suggestion that I "call our shop" was like telling someone in a wheelchair to "climb the steps" so we can take your money. No thanks. Maybe another shop wanted my business so much that they installed a ramp to make it easier to do business with them, since you're not going to be accommodating, I'll go elsewhere.

Unfortunately, because of our disposable attitude in society, his business has really started to shrink over the last 10-15 years. I believe he may be thinking about retirement and seeking his building. If you're thinking about getting something done with him do it ASAP! You won't be disappointed with his work.

I wanted fabric that would last a long time so she recommended this after I explained what style I was going for. Gregory gave me an estimate and the process began. When I went to pick up my chairs, Crystal had created two pillows for me! I am 6 months in with these chairs and the fabric has remained intact! I love my chairs so much! If an issue does creep up, they will take care of you. Their people will come out and pick up the piece and make it right. I had an issue with one recliner I had re-upholstered. They came out, picked it up, and redid the seat for me. No charge, as their apology on that, and their service made it good as new again. We had seat work done by them and the seat frame broke when I first sat in it. I saw the issue, called them, and Frost said they'd take care of it ASAP. They gave me a new hardwood frame and a new seat. As good as it gets, really. I'd use them and I'd recommend them to my friends. In fact, I have. If you have a good piece of furniture, that just needs new upholstery...get it re-upholstered by Frost. It may cost nearly the same as some new furniture...but these days, you get a lot more for your money by using good "bones" to begin with. Not the new junk that usually has plywood framers and Chinese made mechanisms.

While Vitian was initially friendly and helpful, this turned out to be a truly awful experience…read more When they came to pick up our furniture, they scraped our door frame--an early red flag. From there, things only got worse. She kept our furniture for nine months and in all that time only completed one of the three pieces. Even worse, she started that one piece with the wrong fabric, which meant there wasn't enough left for the other items. I called regularly--every few weeks--and was met with excuse after excuse. When we finally got the "finished" piece back, the quality was disappointing. The fabric pattern wasn't aligned, and it was not completed as we had discussed. Then, to top it all off, she tried to charge us even more than originally agreed, claiming it was "more work than expected." In the end, we had to take our furniture elsewhere: one piece to be fixed, and the other two to be done from scratch. It's incredibly disheartening to have such a poor experience, especially when trying to support a small business. I absolutely would not recommend.
