Paint is the easiest way to transform a room, but selecting a paint color is far from easy! Color is a reflection of the light and color around it it so a particular paint color can look vastly different when you paint it on your walls and it reflects the hardwoods, carpets, furniture, etc in the room. I'm pretty good at seeing the "color" and tone in a sample, meaning is the gray pulling blue, brown, sage, purple? After painting several large swatches on the walls, I felt the gray we chose was pulling too much blue so we went back to the store with the goal of finding the same level of saturation but a few spots over on the color wheel so it would have a brown base. Luke was working that evening and when I explained the intention, he chose a color he felt would meet our needs. He also recommended painting the sample color on large 2x3 sheets of paper so we could move the paper to all areas of the room and see it in different lighting conditions. He said he wasn't trying to get us to spend more money, he was making this suggestion because we mentioned how the colors seemed so off because the existing wall is an orange tan. Sure enough, when we painted the samples on white, and put the papers in the wall, we were able to see the color more realistically. The color he suggested ended up being the perfect greige (gray beige) that we were seeking. We came back a few days later to find a pure white for the trim and were running into the same challenges. There is no pure white because white definitely picks up on the colors around it. We were in luck because Luke was there again! We had narrowed it down to Chantilly Lace and Super White. Without telling him our choices, we asked him which white would show as true white against the greige. Now, there are dozens and dozens of whites. Instantly he said Chantilly Lace. We painted more white sheets, put them on the wall, looked at them at night and in the daylight against the greige walls and hardwood floors. Chantilly Lace was the unanimous decision. Now, before we saw Luke, there was someone else working who was not nearly as helpful. In fact, it seemed like he didn't want to answer any of our questions or assist at all when it came to trying to decipher colors and how they would appear. So I think we had several super experiences because of Marcus. We have several more rooms to go, and we will continue to come back to Dick's Color Center / Sherman Williams because of the great advice and fabulous experience working with Luke.

We've considered going back to Behr paint from Home Depot, but we keep coming back here due to great customer service. For Covid stuff - they have plexiglass up & the store usually barely has anyone here. Love this place.

I rated it "A-OK" with three stores. I said the paint is good. I said the staff is friendly. I said I'd go back. All I said is sometimes it takes a while. I don't need to contact you about this; you already know the issue. You can choose to assure adequate staff or leave it the way it is. I will go back; I just know I may have to wait a while. I've used Tommy's so many times and I don't want to go anywhere else!…read more Over the years growing up I would come here with my dad while he was picking up supplies and paint; now that I'm a homeowner I find myself doing projects as well and always order my paint online through Tommy's. Most of the time I order Benjamin Moore online at night and it's mixed the next day noon. Great customer service, helpful folks. One of those rare Eugene business that are familiar, friendly, and have stood the rest of time for a reason.

However...it's not that much of a price difference AND the experience, the friendly nature of the people working there and the overall vibe of the place make you want to keep coming back! I went into this dreading anything about paint, but through my own research, practice and talking to the folks here, I actually ENJOY going to the paint store (helps that they have good coffee) now. I think this place is a Eugene gem. I haven't been to many paint stores, so I don't know what my other experiences would be, but Tommy's is just fun and enjoyable (oh, and they have tools and paint things you might not have thought of that can make things easier, and someone knowledgeable to tell you about using it). If you buy paint from them and need it later shaken or stirred (we got some big 5 gallons containers) you can easily just pull your car in up front and they'll come out with a dolly to grab a heavy 5 gallon bucket out of your car and load it after it's been dealt with. While you're waiting you can get some coffee or tea and hang out at one of the color selection tables or on a stool at the front. Top notch customer experience (and I get pickier the more I understand what good customer experience is, online and brick & mortar).

Another one ignored is when we tried ordering a gallon of paint. I will not be returning to this location!!! If you don't like your job that isn't a reason to take it out on costumers. Besides the recommendation the worker gave me did not meet my needs. I recommend going to the Woodburn location. They are extremely helpful and have bilingual workers.
