One of our favorite dog parks in North County (hat isn't directly on the coast). Both the small and big dog parks are HUGE, which is nice considering usually the small dog park is significantly smaller. There are plenty of benches through the park (and that are actually clean/not gross), so you can sit and enough watching your dogs play. Everyone Is much nicer here than the dog park in Templeton, so I always enjoy going here. We usually go into the small dog park since all of my dogs are from 18-32 lbs and they always have an absolute blast. One of my dogs love to play catch, and the small dog park has a ton of room for her to run around. The dog park is fully bark so there is not any grass, but that's pretty normal and my pups don't seem to mind one bit. Highly recommend this dog park for your pups! read more

They even have balls to throw for the dogs and it's of course separated by big and small dogs but both sides have plenty of space. Absolutely designed for everything a happy dog could want! I realize I am the odd man out with this review, but my experience here was not great. I will say that the elderly gentlemen that seem to frequent this park with their pups are very nice. We stopped here while in the area and realized at the gate before entering that they want you to pay a day use fee for this park if you do not have a yearly membership ($25). That in itself is not a deterrent; one would assume that a park that is funded by its patrons is well taken care of. We grabbed an envelope to pay and entered the park. The park consists of a cement walkway through the middle and two sides separated into large and small dogs, which no one seemed to care about as there were a couple of large and small dogs on each side. There were 3 or 4 other people there when we visited. One was a self-proclaimed dog trainer who wanted to tell everyone else how to train their dogs while she ignored hers and I watched it digging a hole. The problem with tis park is that it is not in good condition. It's just a fence with two bark filled patches on either side. The weeds are overgrown and everything is dirty and old. One large dog did come over to say hi but the poor thing was in a cone. It was warm and there were no water bowls out. We stayed for a few minutes and left. We were in the area for a few weeks but did not return. If you are just coming through the area and looking for a place to let your dog out, there are plenty of green spaces and really parks in the area that you can google where your dog will probably be much happier. read more

Since this road trip was all about Cako, I found Sherwood along the way to make a stop. The Google map doesn't really give good directions, and we ended up on the other side, but we found the opening. The space is quite large and fenced in. One side for big dogs, another side for small ones. The ground is mulched up trees and other foilage. Cako would've loved grass, but I understand how it can be expensive to maintain. The people who were there with their dogs were not the friendliest. I just stopped by for her to relieve herself and run around. Definitely worth coming to if you live in the area or traveling through. It's not that far from the freeway. Cako Approves! read more

Of the three parks that I know of in the area, the upkeep of the park is not good. For a park of its size, there should be some grass area. Especially for dogs that have sensitive feet. I see that our area does not provide dog parks like other neighboring areas that are clean and nice for the dog and their owners. read more

I was looking for a place to have my pup stretch his legs and found Sherwood Dog Park not too far from downtown Paso Robles. I was expecting a nice little fenced off area adjacent to a people park; like most dog parks are. Sherwood Dog Park is quite literally a dog park, it's a huge open space that's basically just for dogs. They split the runs by size but when I went my dog was the only one for a while. Fortunately, there's plenty of balls there to play with if you didn't bring your own. Even better the park itself is actually all volunteer/donation driven. The city doesn't maintain it-which might explain why it's all wood chips/particles. read more

This park is maintained by volunteers, not the city. It has a section for big dogs and another for small dogs. Owners have a place to sit on the shade with benches, and it is quite nice. Sturdy and tall fences separate each area, gates are well maintained. The only issue I have and the reason for the loss of a star? There is no grass so the dogs are cleaning themselves on small pieces of wood, with also makes it hard to pick up after them. I would gladly contribute to a fundraiser to upgrade that spect of the park, and I don't even live in this town. That is how otherwise cool this park is. Easy access from the highway 101 if you are traveling, and exit is close to shopping area with lots of drive thrus in case you get hungry after the dog park. I will definitely swing by it whenever I travel with the dog to give him some exercise. read more

I heard about this dog park from a winery employee. My German Shepard puppy had the best time. There is a lot of room for running and playing. It was the perfect spot to take him after the long drive from Southern California. read more

So...the first time we were there, I was disappointed there was no grass in the dog park. We were there a couple days ago and I have to say, it really is a nice dog play area. Yes, it has bark, but it is clean and nicely kept up. Someone on Yelp mentioned that the park is maintained all by volunteers. That is awesome! What a great thing to do for your community! This dog park is beautiful and gigantic! Sherwood Dog Park is maintained by volunteers, so please donate if you visit. The park is separated into two large run areas covered with wood chips. One area for small dogs, the other for large. There are plentiful water bowls, poop bag/ garbage can stations, and lots of seating and shade. Lots of tennis balls and a few frisbies available for your puppers to play with. Everyone I met at the park was really friendly. My dogs loved the park, and definitely got in some good exercise. The negative reviews scarcely do this park justice. People are spending their own volunteer time to provide a beautiful dog park for the city, at NO cost to the city. That is rare. Are there some wood chips, yes. Are they small enough to cause splinters, I don't think so. Perhaps when they were first poured, but that was a couple years ago. They are big soft pieces now. I'm not a fan of the wood chips for dog parks, my dogs don't seem to like it either. Maybe it pokes their feet. Better than no park at all. Some random toys including chuck it sticks and tennis rackets to fling balls around. Tubs to fill with water on hot days. Ample space. Picnic tables and benches with shade for owners who want to be boring. Really just wish the wood chips were replaced with grass. read more

Dogs are getting splinters from the shredded wooded ground cover they use here. It is dangerous for their feet. My dog got a splinter a couple years ago and now he won't walk on that covering. He won't even chase a ball. (Smart boy knows it hurtPlease find another method of ground cover that is safer for our dogs' feet!!! read more

I am not visitor of this park as I live in Templeton and am a volunteer for that park. I do want to remind people that all of the dog parks run on a volunteer basis and if there is any extra time you can donate to make them even better, we welcome it. Great little dog park. Separate large and small dog areas. The large dog area is medium sized. Great for running and playing, just not huge. There is a shade structure, benches, and they provide tennis balls and throwers! Minimal shade with only one tree. Nice, big fenced in space for your dogs to run and play. Covered picnic table areas for you to sit on. $1 a day use fee, very reasonable. The only drawbacks are there are often large piles of wood chips that are in need of dispersing. Also, there aren't a ton of parking places designated for the dog park. Overall, this is a great, safe place to bring your dogs for a good romp. read more

My dog Sophie and I go to Sherwood dog park everyday. This is a great park. It is clean, tidy and there is a great group of people and dogs that use this park. They provide running water, poop bags, balls and launchers. I can rate Sherwood park so highly because I just returned from a road trip to Boulder, Colorado and went to 5 other dog parks. We visited one in grand junction Co, two in boulder, Co, and 2 in St. Gearge Ut. Sherwood dog park is ranked best. Many dog parks do not have running water, trash cans or poop bags available. read more
