My favorite lake for one my grandpa helped dig out the lake. It was news to me I didn't know it was man made so now it's my favorite. Yes I camp other places I love the area and it gets very hot wish we had more tree coverage so with that said bring a pop up or two. You never know what kind of wild life you will see and walk hike with caution rattle snakes blend in super good. I made the mistake of brushing my teeth with the water spicket one year so don't do that unless you want to get sick my stupidity. If you like fishing make sure you have a fishing license we went down to the lime one year with a kids like two year old fishing pole and a child hook and some lame person said we had a fish net and called the rangers on us and they all came looking for a net looked in my backpack in my truck in our ice chest in the back of my truck acting like we had done something wrong it was a huge embarrassing moment for them because they came In hot like I was a criminal with my wife and to young kids and the only thing was a trash bag that I collected trash people left around apparently they had a video of this so called net and the ranger told me after looking a this video that they must have mistaken a net for a trash bag. It's was super lame like I understand they have a job todo but the way it was handled in the beginning was not professional with kids around. Other then that I've always have had a great time in the heat we even went when the lake was dried up on the Harris creek side and camping one year and it rained we still had a great time. Yes it's not super party like as year in the past and that's ok you want that behavior drive up the road to the next lake. I wish they still had the little store but that closed up sadly. They need more people camping to get that open again. read more

First timer and it was a good time! It wasn't crowded and neighbor campers were very nice and kind. Easy check in into the lake. We had a big group and accommodated all of our needs. The only thing I wish this lake/campground had were actual bathrooms and some shade. I've read that it was manmade but you would think they would consider building actual restrooms and/or shade even fake trees for shade. Otherwise, the lake was a gorgeous spot and the area was clean. I would definitely come back with other families but be more prepared with shade or head when the weather is slightly cooler lol. Highly recommend when you're in the area! read more

By far one of the most laid-back and relaxing lakes! I recommend that if you live nearby, try getting an annual pass for both lakes at lake Nascimento main gate,That way you can go lake hopping all year long like we do. PS, the staff are super friendly and awesome. read more

Saturday was the perfect day at the Lake San Antonio for fishing with the SO. Water was like glass, calm as could be, a few houseboats on the water (counted 6), cows grazing across the lake and a few deer. Fishing was good but couldn't even CATCH AND RELEASE!!! Hardly any campers and RV'ers. The ones that were there set up near the entrance part of the campground. WHY??? I do not know the reasoning to this. There's nothing there except to walk a bit and your at the entrance gate. If you drove a few miles there are plenty and I mean PLENTY of awesome spaces with a lakeside view. Lots of areas to camp at with restrooms and dumpsters at all the different locations. Some even have firepits. Entrance fee was just $5 for the day to enjoy this wonder away from us City Slickers. The con was where we fished had some bees. There was nothing there to attract them but my sweet self and being with my Honey. We moved (no fish or bites) and now here comes the wasps!!! Next time (gotta buy) I am bringing that racquetball fly zapper and have me some FUN ... read more

Ok, after a disastrous trip to another lake earlier in the day, I was given rough instructions on how to find this lake after spending the better part of 30 mins driving up and down the road scratching my head before being told to turn on interlake road. There are NO signs indicating a turn there. At this point I'm getting mildly hangry and eyeballing my picnic sandwich. The lady at the gate assured me they had a much longer and better beach area with tables and bbq areas. I followed her instructions down to the day use beach area. There I spied a sign saying 4x4s only. Growl. I got outta my car to walk around only to discover that it was no longer 85 degrees like it was earlier, but over 100. Sigh. I felt defeated... there was no easy beach/water access. The one brush free area had a family all set up in it. I think there was a bathroom, but I'm not sure. By this point we just said hell with it and headed home. There were picnic tables, shade and bbqs up away from the beach... its just by this point it was too hot for us to enjoy them. Now that I know where it is, I might be tempted to come back and maybe camp. read more

I find it interesting that all the reviews for Lake San Antonio are from triathletes who have participated in the annual Wildflower Triathlon and NOT from actual campers. For me, I actually started to camp here long before I got into Triathlons. In fact, I believe the first time I camped here was with a group of friends back in 2000. I'll never forget the sounds of wild pigs in the distance. Thankfully, we never encountered one. Sure did make the evenings interesting though... This place has great amenities and there are a TON of campsites. No one could ever get turned away, there are so many. Showers and bathrooms are relatively clean and accessible and there's even a convenience store at the bottom of Lynch Hill in case you need anything. Cell service can be non-existent but that's a plus in my book. = ) While I've camped here several times with various friends and family members and we've had some great times, this place is special to me because of all the great memories I've had while competing in the Avia Wildflower Triathlons. So, no wonder why all the reviews are from those who've competed in the various courses. While the course is very challenging with all the rolling and steep climbs, once you finish, it's one of the most amazing feelings in the world. I've done marathons and felt pretty amazing but adding a triathlon to the books takes it to a whole knew level. Tackling and finishing the Avia Wildflower Triathlon...Epic! This campsite was our first "roughing it" experience. If you enjoy nature & heat then this place is for you. Didn't even know that this lake existed. We ended up here because Lake Cachuma were full and wasn't letting anyone in. They told us about this site. It was about a good 1 1/2 - 2 hours away from Lake Cachuma so we were really far from home. The showers are in a common area. When we were there, the showers were in huge a giant stall with no doors or dividers. So, if this is your first time, I suggest that you pack a bathing suit to wear in the showers. There were only 1 stall that had a divider and door. Everyone stood in line patiently for their turn at this particular shower stall. Unlike other camp grounds, they will charge you a fee just to take a shower. My husband, brother in law and friend, pitched our tents. The site that they chose was close by to a restroom . It was really a small modern version of an "out house". All it had was a toilet, sink, and mirror. It was also well lit and very clean. The kids enjoyed hanging out by the lake. They also have a market just in case you needed anything is a plus! read more

Went again today. I have to say north shore is still the side I prefer. Although I did go to south shore as well. North shore in 1000s is more spacious. Paved better. Bathrooms are much nicer. Plenty of room for RVs although many types to choose from. Not all full hook ups. South shore is well shaded great for groups or multi family's. Futher from water. Does have a general store. Roads not kept very well and is mostly partially paved. read more

We camped here for Labor Day weekend, and I am pretty disppointed that I didnt just stay home. We arrive at 6pm and it is 112 degrees outside with no shade. Our site had one tree on it. Then overnight, my car was broken into and my purse was stolen. The next day we were going to go swimming, but someone in my group told me it was gross and muddy so I should just skip it. The last day, we went down to the shore to hang with my uncle as he fished. And there was the carcass of a dead fish on the shore. And then a huge dead fish floating in the water. Not really pleasant. That night the campers across from us were actually playing video games with the sound all the way up. We could hear their game from across the street and every explosion in this shoot em up game. No ranger ever patrolled at night so no one came to tell these people to stop. The last night, some wild boars rummaged through our camp ground. So I can safely assume that I will not be returning to this lake... ever. read more

Lake San Antonio - Great!!! - Parks Near Me - Bradley, California

This is the place where the Wildflower Triathlon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildflower_Triathlon) is held every year. Although I'm not doing it, I came down here from SF to train with my triathlon club. It is a huge area with plenty of camping space, a bunch of cabins, and lots of room to exercise. There are fire pits located near the camp sites, connections for RVs, and plenty of parking. I'm not a camper so it was nice having everything packed in the car right next to the campsite (I slept on a cot.) The water is much warmer than swimming in the bay although there was a bunch of algae in the water. There are plenty of places to bike and if you're looking for a tough ride, just do the 56 mile course. If you're into running there are quite a few hills but the views are awesome and there are trails you can run on if you want to stay off the roads. My only gripe was that there weren't showers close to where my campsite was. Apparently real men don't shower when camping. I beg to differ. Great Camping facility. First of all, I want to say a big thank you for a lady on the phone, Tanya. We were struggling of finding a camp site near Monterey, because everything was booked in advance. So using an app, we started calling all camp grounds nearby, and nobody was answering at around 7pm. Luckily, Tanya picked up and helped us a lot. She navigated is trough this huge land, explained the difference between North and South, gave us all important info. It's a huge camp site, more than 600 spots, several lots are spreader around the Lake, so you don't even see people around you. The camp has everything: electricity, water, fire pits, barbecue stands, lots of benches and tables. The restroom are equipped with not only restrooms and sinks, but also warm showers!!! Another big plus is you can come anytime like we did, because it took us two hours to drive to the camp, but it's open 24 hours, just take a slip, fill it up and put on your dashboard. On the way back you can pay in the office or leave money in the box. Also don't forget about gorgeous views on the lake. I am impressed ! read more

Hello all, ya'll need to hear the low down about Lake San Antonio. Its the best hands down for boating, camping and fishing, if you don't have a boat then it could be rough at times, the north shore has no shade and its all dry camping, meaning no hook ups and stinky out houses. When the water is low there will be leeches and lots of mud. The best shoreline though is when the water is low because it creates more shoreline to camp on. Been going to Lake San Antonio for over 15 years. Although the North Shore has camp grounds that are kinda on the water, they have shade and hookups. Been camping on the south shore though and I prefer the South shore camp grounds more. It's what ever makes you happy is most important. The South shore camp ground is kinda off the water, but will never get windy and is probably better for kids because of the open space to ride bikes and walk trails, plus the showers are much bigger with a private stall, the bathrooms are much bigger and cleaner and there are more to choose from throughout the camp ground and what makes it so great is the shade from all the giant oak trees. They have little cabins for rent and a small restaurant. Plus the fuel docks are on the South Shore. Beaches are a little bit nicer than the South shore but the best beaches are by the dam and can only be accessed by boat. Sand is like white powder and the water is always perfect temperature for swimming. There is a floating out-house in case you need to make an emergency stop. Best time to get the perfect water is during the week due to not to many boats on the water. Plus South shore has thousands of deer that will almost eat out of your hands but I do not recommend it. This is my favorite place to camp and go boating. read more

Last year, I came through the San Antonio Recreation Area for Lightning in a Bottle last year and was absolutely enthralled by the area. Sure, the Spring and Summer months can get warm - but be sure to scope some shade and bring ample sunblock and water. There are so many places to camp and explore, and now that The Do LaB will be hosting annual events here - they're working with park rangers to build more infrastructure and water fountains. Beautiful! It is teeming with wildlife as well as wildflowers. On the Wildflower Olympic Tri course we saw: - Deer - Llamas - a fox - a rattlesnake! - dogs (this is a very dog friendly park) - hawks (keep your small dogs close...) Looks like a great place to camp too. read more

This was our first time to Lake San Antonio and honestly, I'm super unimpressed. We previously have camped at Lake Nacimiento and I recommend that if you're able to get reservations, camp there. We were at the north shore in spot 1104. The views are gorgeous and the lake is really warm and fun to swim or float in. There is a decent walk to/from the lake that is fairly steep. These spots are the closest to the shore despite the "shore camping" that is advertised. The campsites are not well kept. Many benches, fire pits, and grills are broken or missing. The sites are very close together so privacy isn't guaranteed. Quiet hours don't seem to be taken seriously as our neighbors BLASTED music until 2am which made us uncomfortable and made sleeping impossible. The park ranger drives through the camp site once in the morning and that's it. At Nacimiento they drive through multiple times a day and check the restrooms and drive through at quiet hours to ensure everyone is following. I doubt if we camp here again. read more

I am rating this on the basis of swimming - and only on that. For everything else, refer please to the other ratings. South shore: nice tree coverage, nice view - terrible beach, grass all in the sand, algae in the water. North shore: no tree coverage, rocky beach, water is pretty clear. So, burn and swim or stay cool and don't swim...unless you don't care - but I will continue looking for other swimming holes. read more

Spent last weekend at the lake in one of the south shore cabins. Even though the lake is not fully operational yet due to the lack of water for years we had a great time. You can still swim at the beach on the South Shore. Even though the dock is gone it was still a great site. Kaycie Roberts @ Monterey Lakes Recreation was amazing and helped me so much with renting the cabin. She went over an above her job to make sure I had all the information needed. The cabins are fully stock with all kitchen necessities such as bowls, dishes, cups, silverware, cooking utensils and pots and pans. They even provide you with dish soap, dish towels and dishwasher soap. The bathrooms are fully stocked as well. My hope is that by next year the marine will be back up and working and maybe the dock at the beach will be up so that the boats and jet skies cannot access the beach where the children play. The workers at the front gate were also helpful. All around great experience. read more

Very very sad. The lake nearly fills, Monterey County takes the water upstream for groundwater replenishments and farmers which is why the reservoir was created, however one doesn't need to look deep to see that the water Water Grab by county and State. read more

Our church has been coming to LSA for several decades (minus 4 years when the lake was closed due to the drought) and returned this year for a week on the South Shore. 88 people camping, wakeboarding, games etc and the staff at LSA were ALL AMAZING! We were especially impressed with Caleb, Cheyenne, Jeffrey & Layla as well as Nate the GM. They were beyond wonderful & helpful & oh so friendly! They helped make our week one of the best yet and even with a few hiccups that were inconsequential because of the help they provided! Can't wait to come back next year! read more

Worst campground I have ever seen or been to. I Booked 8 camp spots and a cabin for a family reunion. In my party was 4 fifth wheels at 40ft and a large very expensive class a motor home. I made sure to inform the lady when booking that I needed spots big enough to accommodate these large trailers. When I showed up there was not only no one there to assist me in where my spots where but the place looked like a scene from a jeepers creepers movie. It was a ghost town. Also I might add, which isn't a big deal but there was absolutely no phone service, so I couldn't call anyone to figure out where my spots where. Luckily I had a map saved from when I booked the spots. So I finally find my camp sites and the trees were so over grown that I would have scratched not only my trailer but my friends and family would have scratched there trailers. I booked these spots 3 months ago. So there was plenty of time for them to trim the trees and clean up the place. We decided to leave and not look back, thank good ness the beautiful cava Robles is near by and they not only accommodated us but gave us a discount for our tragic day. When I contacted lake San Antonio to try and sort this mess out. I not only didn't get a single apology I was told to just send a email to this address they will respond in 24 hours. I sent the email and received an automated reply about the 7 day cancellation policy. Well I'm aware of the cancellation policy but your campground was definitely not up to standards. I have replied to the email and put in numerous phone calls to the manager. But oddly she is never available and won't return my phone calls. I am seeking legal advice and will be Pursuing this. I'm not the guy that will just go away. Thank you for reading this. And hopefully I save someone from the trouble of driving to this place. read more

I was going to give this place a 2 star just because it's pretty, but the services didn't even make the setting worth it. The employees at the front are clueless, gave us absurd directions and had no idea what they were doing. All the stores and amenities were closed without notice. Signage is awful, with the exception of toxic algae warnings. The advertising is completely bogus compared to the reality of this place. Would not recommend. Instead, Tulac and Shasta are much better options. read more

We used to camp here as a family for years and it was our favorite place to boat. This time camping here we had several issues here that ruined our experience. First of all when we reserved our campsite we were told we could pitch as many tents as we wanted, and we could pay for extra vehicles. It turns out you are only allowed to have an extra vehicle if you share the same address! We had family coming from all over who were only expecting to pay an extra 15 dollar fee instead they had to pay 45 dollars for a campsite. When we got to our site it was bee infested. Bees everywhere any time we took out any food. I don't understand why this campground is not maintained. We went to the store to buy bee traps- 22 dollars a trap. It seems like they would rather capitalize on their bee problem instead of get it under control. We also had problems checking out because the girl wrote the wrong date on our tag! We had to show our confirmation email about our reservation so that they would believe that we already paid for all our days. Frustrating! Overall we still had a good time as a family the lake was beautiful I just wish we didn't have to deal with all those issues! read more

Big camp ground. Water way down. Marina closed, so no rentals or fish stuff. We were able to still swim and hang out and fish. Stayed a couple of days in Rv Did some mountain biking. Lots of deer and other animals in area. They still allow boats, but most of the launches are closed because of low water. If it had more water to allow marina to open, would be better. Still had fun, it's camping! Better than staying home! read more
