I've always had excellent pedicures and gel manicures at Shi and the nail techs are wonderful. I have concerns about how the women are managed. Tipping is encouraged but when I try to tip the person who performs the service, the man at the front desk or one of the lead techs always takes the tip, saying they'll give it to the person I want to tip. I have concerns about the nail techs situations and because of this, I can't go back. I'm just trying to figure out if that choice is better or worse for the women working there. read more

Never coming back. This was the only salon I would go to for the last 2 years. Never had a fantastic experience ever. Always felt rushed and the quality was always inconsistent. But today's visit was the last and I'll tell you why. I pulled cash out of the ATM as I know they prefer to be paid and tipped in cash. Pulled out a certain amount, my total was crazy high and I wasn't expecting it, so I gave the guy checking me out all of the cash I had and said keep the change. He looks at my tip and says "that's it?" and I said yes I'm sorry I only pulled out this much cash. He then says "there's an ATM over there do you want to pull out more money or is this it?" I was like beside myself. Out of embarrassment and feeling bad I said "fine I'll pull more out" paying yet ANOTHER ATM surcharge. I pulled out another $20 and said "just $10 please" and he says "really? you want $10 back". I CANNOT MAKE THIS UP!! I was livid. I left without saying anything after he handed me my $10. Pay your employees better if my tip isn't good enough. I always tip well and today was the only time I have ever tipped below average. Unacceptable. Even if I did not tip for some reason, NEVER EVER call a customer out like that in front of everyone. read more

I have been going to Shi Nails for years and felt that the service has gotten laxed & rushed. This last time I was called 5 minutes before my appointment time to confirm and said "yes" I'm on my way to only get Scolded for being 3 minutes late. I would have been fine if they needed to cut short my time but was not given the chance....Just spanked. I have waited many times and never said anything. I came in in the very early afternoon and the place was packed. (It was not my first visit either, they know me.) Was told to come back later, so I made an appointment for the following day at 4:00. When I got there - every station was filled, and any available seating was taken. I waited for an hour, and then asked when I would be helped, being that I had an appointment. I walked in yesterday and got a full set from Alex, who I believe is the owner. The service was really bad. The tips that he put on were way too narrow for my natural nail, which made them look gaudy and cheap. He also did not fill the acrylic to base of the nail, making it look like my nails were already due for a refill. I asked for square tips but he did rounded, which I didn't realize until he was a few nails in. What topped it off was that he was constantly yelling and snapping at customers that it was close to closing time and his employees wouldn't have time to do whatever they were requesting (closing time was still actually an hour away). He told me that he absolutely would not be paying his employees overtime. All around a bad experience being a customer having to sit and listen to it. I feel like a number not a person (literally that's how you make your appointment). I waited15-20 minutes after my appointment was scheduled to be seen. The person doing my nails did not interact with me or answer my questions but mumbled something I could not understand. After having my gel removed, my nails were in terrible shape. They do not guarantee gel nails. I had my nails done on a Friday and by Sunday the tops were fading and chipping. I stopped in to ask them about their gel nails and they didn't seem like they were too interested in the quality of work. Dismissive. My first time there I had a new person and I paid for services that were below average. A discount off the full price would have been nice. Every time you go in its busy, so no wonder they could care less about the gel on my nails - they are getting loads of money every day. I mean if you are looking for a quick job, this is the place to go. But if you want quality I would go somewhere else. Not worth the money if the nails are not going to last. This was one of the worst experiences I've had while receiving a pedicure. My mom, sister, and I made appointments to get our toes done together. They did not sit any of us next to each other because they were so busy and refused to turn away any walk-ins. I asked for the pedicure with the 15 minute hot stone massage. She massaged each leg with lotion for less than 5 minutes each and then used stones for less than 1 minute on each leg. I timed everything. I was in the chair for 33 minutes total when their menu online says that service would be 60 minutes. The massage was more of a rub. HORRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!! for starters they definitely overbook themselves. always waiting 30 mins after my appt time to be serviced. place is always packed. for dip on the hands, short nails, one solid color, no design, the price is $45 which is reasonable given inflation, prices must increase HOWEVER this is where the issue is - I'm a loyal, every three week customer, never complain always on time (for about a few months now I've come to this salon since moving back to the area), quick to pick my color, fast in and out (as long as they don't take forever to service me).. I ask for them to do my cuticles but they don't and they look sh*tty, no cuticle oil, no lotion, left old color on my hands from the machine they use to remove your color, and the color matching does not match at all between dip and regular polish. the nails are decent no complaints...pay tip and leave... THE FRONT DESK GUY FOLLOWED ME OUT OF THE SALON AND SAID DO YOU KNOW WHY THEY MAKE YOU WAIT AND DON'T DO A GOOD JOB FOR YOU? BECAUSE YOU DONT TIP ENOUGH. Went in here hoping for a relaxing experience. I have had a history of my powder dip nails breaking. I noticed that when he was almost finished filing the powder down that I could literally bend my nail and see the white of the tip under the darker polish. I asked him if this was normal and he said they wouldn't break. I had to keep pressing him to put another coat on. He did end up adding another coat of dip powder but very reluctantly. I am going out of town and wanted my nails to look good. Also, since I am going out of town, if one breaks, I'm sort of screwed. The top coat was sloppily put on and has streaks in it. By this point I'm sick of asking him to fix things and just keep my mouth shut. Probably will not be returning here unfortunately. This is the first bad review I've ever put on yelp, and the only reason I did so is because he knew I was not satisfied and failed to rectify the situation. This place was recommended by someone- my first and last visit. I love a great pedicure and opted for the Shi Shi pedicure. The experience itself was lackluster. I also did not expect to ask the person (Kim) to apply lotion or oil at the end of my gel pedicure. I literally waited until he reached to put my shoes on. Any time I get a gel pedicure, the manicurist typically applies lotion or oil after the polish. I opted not to get my nails painted at the end of my manicure. Look at my cuticles. I also have some white polish around the skin on my toes I was there for close to 1.5 hours. During this time they did not disinfect the chairs or pedicure tub area between clients. read more

Shi can be hit or miss, depending on which tech you work with. The location is very cramped and often crowded. Scheduling can be a bit chaotic, as walk-ins are frequent and rarely turned away -- this mean that sometimes someone with an appointment will wait a bit past their scheduled time. Occasionally there is a "quantity over quality" vibe. Overall, though, I prefer Shi to other nail salons in the area. read more

I've been going to Shi for a few months now. My first three experiences for a manicure and pedicure were great, 5 stars. The salon is clean, they offer complimentary water and soda, and the nail techs are very friendly. The last few times I've gone, it has not been the best experience. Alex (M) is running the salon, doing nails, and scheduling appointments on the phone. It's really unprofessional that he answers the phone and stops working on clients nails to schedule appointments. It's rude and inconsiderate of client's time. There should be a dedicated person that only answers the phones and does other tasks like cleaning, laundry, etc. Additionally, Alex was rude to me and another customer for a separate issue. He can be condescending with his words and tone. The last three times, I was not offered a drink but other customers were. The woman nail techs all do good jobs and are knowledgeable, but not all have the skillset for designs. However, they deserve big tips because they are clearly overworked and flustered. The woman are very sweet and gentle. Lastly, the prices have dramatically increased without warning or notice. I know this is likely due to inflation but the prices should be displayed on a board for all to see and customers should be able to add the total for themselves. They use little order papers that are illegible to customers. If you decide to go, make an appointment. Walks ins are welcome but it's always busy and they'll ask you to come back later. In terms of options: regular, gel, and dip nails are offered. It's best to pay in cash, they have an ATM but it charges $2. I think the salon is too small for the amount of business the salon conducts. Very tight spaces. I use to love it here but the service has gone downhill. read more

This is the 2nd time I've been to Shi. I decided to give them another chance. The first visit and this visit I felt like I was aspirating the powder. And I wasn't even getting dip. The nail service area is cramped. I barely got a hand massage compared to the persons next to me BOTH times. I know these manicurists work hard, but they also seem unhappy. This visit and the last visit the manicurist I had prior came in midway through my manicure and talked nonstop to my manicurist in her language. It sounded like I (and I am pretty sure it was..) complaining constantly. She did the same when she was my manicurist the first time. Also there is no ambiance, vibe is depressing. Music would be nice instead of talk show with no volume. The place looks unkempt and not sure anything is sterilized (dip container is also reused). My issue was with my follow up visit after I realized I was charged twice. My #4 - Shi Spa Pedicure was supposed to be $45, but I was charged $90. The staff was really nice, they called the manager, and asked if I could wait until he arrived in a few minutes. The manager arrived, and instead of apologizing, he asked me for my name and phone number. He said he was going to review his security cameras and if there was an issue he would call me to come back in and pay. He implied that someone in my group may have said that I was paying for them. I told him that I was the last to finish and that we all paid separately. This was their mistake, and he made me feel like I did something wrong. I let him know that I had a wonderful experience, but after this, I would never be back and I would let my friends that brought me there know how I was treated. read more

When I first walked in everything looked new and clean. This was the first time I had done dip and I thought Alex did a great job! He was quick, too. With the manicure I also received a shoulder massage/rub that I didn't expect, and saw others receive as well. Since they just opened, they offered a 20% discount on services, so my total of $38 came out to $30. After my nails were done, I was told if there was any issues (break, scuff, etc) within two weeks to come back for a fix, free of charge. Since the manicure stations all have desk-like tables where I couldn't see the tools, I was not confident that the tools were clean or new.
