I found out about Shibumi Spa through a promotional special on spaweek.com for a facial + reflexology and massage. Considering I have crazy feet and was a few months due for a facial, I checked out Shibumi Spa here on Yelp and thought "Based on these reviews, I have nothing to lose!" Fortunately, I was right! For my first visit, Sha, who works on the schedule, communicated with me via phone to take care of the reservation and payment (special deals must be paid and reserved via credit card if making an appointment in advance). I received a confirmation call and email, was left feeling secure that things at Shibumi Spa were organized and efficient! I arrived for my appointment and felt calm and relaxed immediately from the beautiful atmosphere (waterfall! lighting! friendly staff!). My facial from Soli was thorough and pain-free (she does extractions by hand with a tissue, NOT with one of those terrible metal scrapers). I loved all the Bionova products she used (especially the oil free massage cream no-scrub exfoliator, which I later bought), and all the great advice she gave during the treatment. Though at first I felt a bit hesitant to purchase any of the products (I have sensitive skin AND I hardly ever buy products that are suggested during a treatment...everyone is trying to make a sale and not necessarily thinking about what is best for you and your skin), I decided to buy the oil free massage cream exfoliator because it was easy to use, a good deal for the size (and potency of the product), and was a great alternative to the harsh scrubs I was conditioned to using on my dry skin. ALSO the reflexology is to.die.for! Soli did an amazing job with the reflexology and multi-style massage. I had just come back from a trip out of town and days chasing after my new puppy, so I needed to relax. Her massage definitely did the trick. I purchased a groupon to try out the bionova custom facial at this place. Overall a pleasant experience. I've tried out facials pretty much everywhere...they give out one of the best shoulder and neck massages at this place that comes with the facial. The extraction was minimal, which is fine with me, I added $25 for the glycolic peel, the facial is fine, nothing too crazy about, I love the effect of bliss triple oxygen facial a lot more, but this still gets me glowing. place is really clean and comfortable, but the only thing is, the weight training room is right on top of the spa, meaning, when these ppl start dropping weights on the floor, you hear them, and it's loud. I went to get a facial from Soli during the winter and it was fab. The spa itself was very soothing and relaxing. The treatment room was totally relaxing and the facial felt great and did not involve painful extractions as had other facials I had in the past (the reason why I did not get a facial in a long, long time). My husband said my skin looked absolutely flawless when I got back home! I highly recommend Soli and the spa, for anyone, especially busy stressed out moms like yours truly! After reading so many rave reviews about this Spa, I decided to give it a shot. So I purchased the Groupon to check it out. The pros: the facial was pleasant and my skin felt great after. And the groupon price certainly made it worthwhile. The cons: the receptionists' professional conduct. For God's sake, this is a spa. When clients enter and see and then smell the homemade lunch eaten from a tuperware right at the reception, it's so so so unpleasant. Their unfriendliness didn't help either. I see others talked about Soli. Maybe it would have been different if she had been the esthetician. The products are supposed to incorporate the same compounds naturally found in the body. At teast that's the claim. I didn't purchase any product due to the high price point. Too high for something to try for the first time. Also, the esthetician, while she was good, didn't seem to know the ins and outs of the products to make a convincing sell. This was a good experience, but short of exceptional. Also, bring extra cash and change if you want to tip...as they don't keep cash at the register. read more

I LOVE this spa! My mother and I went a year or so ago with groupon massage deals from spa week, I'm so glad we came. I cannot remember my massage therapist's name but she was the owner, she really knew what she was doing and explained why my body feels the it does, while giving me an excellent massage. She chattered nonstop, not just about massage-y things but about growing up in Japan, etc...usually I like a quiet massage experience but she was so friendly and bubbly that I didn't mind. I wish I could give another star for the actual atmosphere- soo beautiful, calming, luxurious and relaxing! My mother and I took our time in the locker room and sauna after our massages, it was like another whole spa experience! I haven't been to too many upscale/city spas, maybe they're all like this, but I really liked what I saw! read more

I was referred to Soli Davis from a close friend. I have been going to see her for a year and she does wonders with your skin. Shibuma Spa opened recently and it is a haven for those who are seeking a pleasant experience. I have had the microdermabrasion done with Soli and not only is the ambiance soothing and relaxing, her services are worth what you pay. She also does not push you to buy products or anything, she pays attention to detail and makes you feel like she really cares. The spa facilities are awesome. For instance, you can make use of the sauna, and the gym facilities when you visit. The sauna is relaxing after you get a service done with Soli. I would highly recommend this spa! read more

I went here because of a groupon. When I arrived at the location I realized I had seen it before (the spa is within an Eastern Athletic Club location) It took awhile to get an appointment because of the Groupon and also I guess they were participating in Spa Week deals as well. Shibumi is nice enough. I will say my esthetician Lori did a good job-I would say the massage I had during the facial was one of the best I have had. There was kind of an acupressure feel to it and was longer and covered more than just sort of massage cheeks/press on temples. When you have a Groupon I think you can expect an attempted up-sell. There was not any of that ;the entire treatment Lori talked about the products. when I went to check out I honestly felt as though I could not refuse to buy anything. I was lucky enough to have a few treatments at Shibumi as a birthday treat. As a spa connoisseur I was very impressed with the surroundings and the attention I was given by the lovely attendant who was extremely knowledgeable about the products she was using and why. I highly recommend the body scrub with its delicious pomegranate aroma. My skin was smooth for days lasting much longer than most body scubs i have had. read more

Shibumi Spa is as good as it gets. I have to give great credit to Soli Davis who made me feel comfortable immediately. Her treatments are incredibly effective (microdermabrasion is IT!) and she is professional and absolutely knowledgeable in her field. The results are way beyond what I expected a facial could do. First off, I felt completely renewed and relaxed and on top of it I walked out of there looking amazing. At first I thought, I was imagining things, but friend and colleagues kept commenting on my skin. I know it sounds totally cliché, but it did happen. After seeing myself in some snapshots I realized that Ms Davis had really worked a small miracle. One that lasted for weeks! And all that without harsh chemicals or surgery. Soli the owner took care of me, like I was a king, the spa is beautiful, everything is high-end and clean, the atmosphere is very serene, the bed is (if it was a king size) better than my own. I purchased the same Groupon that everyone is referencing. I left 3 messages with the company trying to schedule an appointment before it expires (or perhaps honoring it a week past the expiration, as other places have been known to do!) -- maybe my mistake was mentioning the Groupon in the message, but they never called me back!! Thankfully Groupon was kind enough to refund the amount I spent on the deal. I would NEVER suggest going to a spa that won't even honor their own deals. read more

I used the Groupon and boy was it a nice facial. There was definitely a bit too much upselling during the facial, but Lori does really know her stuff. It was one place where the extractions weren't excruciating but still pretty thorough. Also, she gave some good skin regimen tips. Really, though, the only way I know whether I've had a quality facial is how my face looks days later. My skin was still glowing after one week! I really like their lotion exfoliant. I am so disappointed with Shibumi Spa. I, too had purchased a Groupon deal and had tried to schedule my appointment. After several calls DURING business hours for 3 days, no one picks up the phone. What kind of business is this that does not answer their phone during working hours? On top of that it took them 3 days to finally call me back and left a message saying that they are fully booked and to contact Groupon for refund and not even an apology for the circumstance.
