This is a great gym with friendly front desk staff. I came here twice while visiting the area and I couldn't have asked for a better gym. They had everything I needed in a clean and stylish atmosphere. If I lived in the area I'd most certainly have a membership. The daily rate was $37, which is a little high compared to rates outside NYC, but it is what it is. Overall though it was worth it. read more

Tried cancelling my subscription. They went out of their way to make it difficult. They required me to speak to a manager, which took several days. Then I was sent a form which I returned. Then they told me to wait several days for the form to be "approved". They never got back to me over several months, all the while charging me each month. I have still not gotten them to cancel my subscription. Shame on them. They are the stereotype of the gym where it is very quick to sign up and impossible to quit. read more

I have lived in the West Village for many years and Templ on 7th Ave is the cleanest and friendliest gym I have ever joined. From Jonathan and Kyle at the front desk, who welcome me with smiles and kind words every day to the friendly and professional trainers such as Steve and Daisy, I love going there to work out. The whole gym is incredibly clean, but I would like to especially mention the maintenance staff in the men's locker room. They do an outstanding job. read more

I've been going to this gym since gyms reopened after the pandemic. I love it, love the layout and and the various types of options for working out. And at my previous gym it was in the basement; here, there are massive windows on each floor, so you don't feel confined. There are lots of machines on the third floor with the cardio equipment, but I spend most of my workout time with weights on the second floor. They have a great selection of things to work on, cables, smith machine, and since I started working out there, they've added new things which works for me because I like to mix things up. As far as the staff goes, I've never felt anything but welcomed there. One of the trainers, Dacey, is amazing. Whenever a friend asks who they should work out with I always say Dacey. I can see how she customizes her work out with her clients based on their needs and what they're looking to gain from their time at the gym. And all the other staff are kind and helpful. As an older guy, I've never felt out of place here and most mornings I am the oldest one there. I have only two complaints that are not really related to the gym or the staff: I hate working out around people who don't put their weights away or pack a machine with enormous amounts of weight and just leave them there. And the other complaint is more general, but a symptom of life in general: people on their phones....do a set then sit on the equipment for a long time looking at their phones. I've been a David Barton gym member for decades. Although at this point I'm not totally sure who owns TMPL but it really doesn't matter. The West Village branch feels like a club but is totally decked out with great equipment and free weights with LOTS of space. It's like other gyms in that if you go in the afternoon (12-3), there might be 5 people in the whole place! Which I LOVE! The staff is very professional and doesn't put up with a lot of sitting on equipment scrolling on your phone. They also have really good trainers who really are interested in their clients. I they don't have a steam room or sauna at the West Village location but I rarely use them in other gyms anyway. But I do understand that a lot of people wouldn't go to a gym without them. BEWARE: This place loves to charge fees without telling customers. Cancellation fee, signup fee, annual fee, etc. If you do sign up, check your credit card statements daily because you will likely see fees pop up throughout your membership. I LOVE my NY gym!! I live in Las Vegas so I'm used to a certain level of service and fabulousness in my fitness routine. I'm glad to say that my visit to New York was made better by my new TMPL membership. I go for the classes mainly, which are really good and kick your a$$. Just how I like it lol! Your membership also comes with towel service and a spa-like locker room experience. There are nice showers, beautiful locker rooms and products provided. This location is in a really cute area, Greenwich Village, which I also like. I put my membership on pause until I come back for my next NYC visit ;) Can't wait to return!!!! read more

I joined TMPL West Village in 2019 when they were independently owned and it was amazing, Oribe hair products in the locker room and excellent group classes. It quickly went way down hill. This place is shady as ffffff. And every one of the "managers" is on a power trip and thinks they run the most elite fitness center you've ever seen. They come up and kick you off of machines you're using and tell you which areas of the gym you're allowed to use based on what they want to use.... I'm sorry I thought I paid to use the entire gym... In fact, you were charging me when the gym was closed during covid. Every man that works here (and honestly a lot that work out here too) thinks he is Floyd Mayweather. They are disruptive, rude, and are constantly yelling or dropping weights or throwing balls next to you like they are howling mating calls. If you bring anything, the managers will come angrily tell you that you have to put it in a locker. But there are no working bathrooms or showers in the locker room so you just go downstairs 3 flights out of your way to put a sweatshirt and resistant bands in a locker that you may actually want to use but your sweatshirt causes "congestion" on the floor even though you're one of 8 people on the gym floor and 4 of those people *work* at said gym. I've had trainers force me to move off of equipment, I've had aggressive meat heads ask me to move and every time I try to cancel my account the "right person" to assist me dodges my calls. Like most reviews, this company charged me throughout the pandemic. When I finally tracked down the customer service manager Christina, she was always abrasive and acted like she *couldn't* help-- I would stop in to discuss cancellation or a new charge I found on my card and she would quickly tell me I had to go to the location where I joined. I'd say, I JOINED HERE AT THIS LOCATION. Anyways, back in January after hounding her for 2 months she finally confirmed with me in person that my account was cancelled end of month and she'd "taken care of me". What do you know, they have tried to charge me every month for the past 6 months. I've disputed every charge with my bank but now can't get in contact with anyone from the gym. In all my years of training at gyms since 1982 TEMPLE hits all the right points. My current trainer Dimetrius has provided a great workout program with incredible results. I have a long history with trainers but my current experience has provided the most visible and nearly ache free results And GREAT customer service from all staff. It is run like a first class hotel or spa. Very clean changing/shower area with all the toiletries you would need and so many clean white towels. TEMPLE has included all the ingredients for a great workout experience All this and only a few blocks from my apartment. read more

Started going to this gym when the NYSC closed down. The equipment, space and amenities are all average, so the only complaint is with regards to the staff - completely indifferent and unhelpful. Took several days to get the manager on the phone to resolve an issue with my personal possessions being mishandled in the locker room. Best to avoid if at all possible. read more

With COVID joining a new Gym can be a big decision. I stopped in to see what their COVID protocol was. I was impressed to see temperature checks, questionnaire, sanitizing stations through-out, team members at all times cleaning, all employees are wearing masks, MERV 13 filtration in place, social distancing within locker rooms, showers are closed. Temple seems to have everything in order. While speaking the GM Melissa and Fitness manager Chris they made this location seem to be a place to work out and feel at home and safe. The gym is the right price for the money. It's not a perfect gym and I wasn't aware of anything that was going on during covid like other reviewers, so I'll express my experience 6 months in. When you first tour the gym, it did seem a bit "sale-sy" to get people to sign up, but I appreciated the free workout and the layout of the gym, so I went with it anyway. This gym isn't constantly overcrowded like Blink and there's plenty machines. They even have a weightlifting platform and 4 squat racks. Outside of the one douche personal trainer that moved my stuff without asking, the gym staff is mostly very friendly. I can recall one time where the gym was about to close and they let me finish my last sets. Overall, this is a solid place to go if you live in the neighborhood. read more

This was a good facility for group classes and workouts; they have a decent guest policy as well. They have good trainers as well. I don't know whether it stayed the same after TMPL took this over from NYSC. My experience as a member however could have been better. I had signed up in Dec 2019, and used the gym for four months until COVID-19 hit. After I went in to freeze my membership, although my credit card was not charged for a few months, out of the blue, they resumed charges with no email notifications at all about unfreezing. When I went in to cancel and get a refund, the guy there said he would put a request in the system, but nothing happened. I called in a day later and they said they had no record of a cancellation. They finally sorted it out, but only after I posted a negative review. It just shouldn't be so difficult. read more

TMPL Gyms used to be an enjoyable place to work out, but since the pandemic, it's become difficult to say nice things about the chain. The latest: At this location, half of the gym was closed (sectioned off) with virtually no notice at all -- allegedly for renovations -- and now those renovations are taking longer than expected to complete (imagine that?!). They pulled the same thing in Hells Kitchen a few weeks ago. The WV location is spread across four separate floors, which is not ideal in my view, and with ultra-narrow locker rooms and microscopic shower stalls. read more

A really great place to work out. A little small, and there can be a wait if the place is crowded, sure. But it is clean and well-maintained, which is more than can be said of the Hell's Kitchen branch of this same gym. It's almost impossible to believe that they're run by the same company. read more

This gym is a scam. Expect to be overcharged if you ever decide to cancel and if you refuse to pay for their overcharges they send your bills to collections. TOTAL SCAM. These are bad people. I couldn't say enough good things about this TMPL location - only visited once but am excited to return. 4/5 stars because of small floor size (though there are multiple floors connected by stairs) it felt a little cramped. Natural light and polite gym-goers helped counter this. Immaculate locker rooms, friendly front desk and locker room staff, a bathroom on the cardio floor, A+ machine array and cool views of the street below. Being easiest to get to by subway makes this my new favorite TMPL location. Too bad they don't have a sauna or steam, that would be a worthy addition ! read more

This gym is well run and a great place to work out. I used to come here when it was NYSC and the improvements post NYSC have been significant. A plus for me during the pandemic was the overall size of the club - with large floor spaces and high ceilings it made me more comfortable with respect to air circulation and in my year+ coming here I have had no problems so what the staff has done to insure safety during this time has worked. And the equipment is plentiful and in great shape. I highly recommend this club and the others TMPL gyms in NYC as I have seen them all. read more

TMPL is an excellent gym. My experience here has been nothing but positive. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It is super clean. It's generally never too busy, and I never have to wait for a machine/weights. The trainers are amazing. They are extremely knowledgeable and always available to answer any of my questions. My trainer Chris is fun and always in a good mood. He is genuinely interested in helping me reach my goals. He is always pushing me to go further and he makes my training sessions something to look forward to. I cannot recommend this gym enough. read more

My friend and I were interested in looking for gyms since summer was just starting so we were reviewing and going to different gyms. We suddenly stumbled upon TMPL, as soon as we stepped in we were welcomed kindly, everything is very professional, we were then by Eduardo Torres (Membership consultant), who is a respectful and professional at his job, received a tour that immediately hooked us to the gym. Jack Grounds (General Manager) is a expert at his job with a charismatic character, helped us with an issue that he and the CEO solved with no problem! Everything about the profession of both of them they solved the problem in no time. This gave us access to all the gyms they propose, We are more than glad and don't regret a single thing, the things they include for the price they charge is undoubtedly a must. They have everything you'd wish for in a gym and in every gym you feel safe and very welcomed. I 100% recommend this gym and everyone should experience the experience in this luxury gym. read more
