I've been coming to Soho Sanctuary for years. I love that it is a small spa that caters to women only. It's warm and inviting and everyone makes you feel welcome. I continue to come back as this is the best facial I've ever had. Bibi is excellent. She takes the time to really evaluate your skincare needs and suggests the best treatment for you. She is very knowledgeable but also never tries to upsell you. She has delicate hands, and my skin always comes out glowing. I am always getting compliments on my skin and it's in large part to my regular facials with Bibi. read more

Very clean and nicely designed. Lovely staff as well. My issue is that I just paid for a very expensive facial called "The Works" and it was hardly that. I expected SO much more - I expected "The Works". I was unimpressed from start to finish. If I'd have paid 150-200 for this facial I would MAYBE have been satisfied but absolutely nothing warranted a $310 fee (plus 20% tip). Because of the description on the website and the price tag, I expected to look like I do when I leave FaceGym or even Heyday: tight, lifted and glowing. Not the case AT ALL. Definitely disappointed. Again, pleasant staff (1 star) and very nice/clean environment (1 star) but they need to review what they're offering, the payment structures, their processes and probably consider updating their equipment (there are more effective micro current tools out there). This was my first time here and it was incredible! I was greeted by Alyssa who showed me the facility and made me feel very welcomed. I had a Aromatherapy massage with Beatriz who found knots I didn't even know about! I left feeling completely relaxed. I then had a facial with Maria whos skills outmatch other facials I've had. THIS IS A SOHO GEM. My friend and I had a relaxing Saturday planned in Soho so we booked massages at Soho Sanctuary as part of our itinerary, Shiatsu for her and Deep Tissue for me. Customer service at the front desk was friendly and efficient, the place is clean, well-kept, and nice inside. It's also super quiet so it really is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Soho. Beatriz was my masseuse and she was amazing - she was very effective on my areas of tension and I felt loosened up afterwards. I've had many deep tissue massages and had to let her know that she is amazing at her job. She even went over my allotted 60 minutes by about 10 minutes which was a nice bonus, I didn't feel rushed at all. My friend's massage went over by 15 minutes and she absolutely loved her massage as well. Making this visit even better was the price - if you get a lot of massages, you know how common it is to see NYC spa menus that start at $200+ for a 60 minute massage (too rich for me). Soho Sanctuary massages start at $155 which is some of the best pricing I've seen for massages at a nice place. It is so worth a trip here and I highly recommend Beatriz! read more

This is the best spa I've been to. It is always clean and serene, and the staff are so nice. I love to get there half an hour early to take a steam before my treatments. The attention to detail here is truly remarkable. They use lavender oil (which I love) during treatments and they offer you water after your treatments. They only use really good quality, natural products. I got a facial and massage here with my mom last Saturday. We both loved it and didn't want to leave. Beautiful location, but the worst customer service ever. I called and asked to book a basic massage. The massage I got was apparently a deep tissue, which never in my life get, and then after the massage when I said it wasn't a pleasant experience, I asked what type of massage I got because that wasn't normal. They told me it was a deep tissue. I tried to see about coming back, or getting a partial refunded and it's the worst customer service ever. They told me I lied and requested that type of massage, and blamed me. Terrible customer service. Terrible standards for hospitality. Would zero recommend because of the staff. read more

WOW!!! Absolutely, the worst spa (if you can call it that) experience I've ever had! I really abhor giving bad reviews. Honestly, it bothers me. But I feel it's my duty to warn all of you unsuspecting victims out there before you make a truly bad mistake. I got a certificate for this place when I was in NYC on vacay recently. I was excited because it was the start of the trip and I would have nicely waxed eyebrows and beautiful nails. Well, my eyebrows were red, swollen and scarred for days afterward. My nails were just OK. If you would like to sit for an hour and a half and wait for your nails to dry, then this is totally the place for you. What Spa doesn't own any kind of actual manicure equipment?!?! No fans, no spray, not even a manicurist table! This spa was so rundown that it reminded me of those little bodegas that don't actually sell anything (legal). I'm thinking maybe it's a front for a drug ring or human trafficking. *** To that woman, K.K., that had a "stellar" experience back in '07; Honey, where were you?! I know we did not visit the same place! The only fabulous selection they had was one pitcher of warm cucumber water. No snacks, no teas, nothing. I echo all the other reviews in that this place is just too expensive for what you receive. I decided to treat myself to the Thai Beauty Ritual (scrub, wrap, massage). The women that worked with me was extremely friendly and informative about what she was going to be doing. She asked if I had any injuries or if she needed to focus on a particular area. After we were done chatting, my treatment began. And this is where everything went downhill. The scrub was barely a scrub. She missed most areas of my body since I was covered in towels and what not. The wrap was nothing like I imagined. She just painted some lotion stuff on my body and wrapped a sheet over me. And the massage... while I can't pinpoint what was wrong with it, it just wasn't relaxing. She did have good pressure, I just wasn't really impressed and I can't tell you why. The music being played was cheesy spa music and the room wasn't that tranquil. I mean for $300+ shouldn't it be roomier, better scented, and more secluded from the outside noise. I don't know Soho Sanctuary, but I just don't get the hype. I'm happy I have a gift certificate here, because I would have been hugely disappointed if I had to pay the entire amount out of pocket. This place is extremely overpriced for what you get. The facilities were clean, the people were cheery and nice and the steam room was relaxing. So I guess there is that! This is my second pregnancy and during my first one I was going for my prenatal massages in Bliss spa on Lexington Ave but they closed so I was looking for new spot and based on yelp reviews and it's location I chose soho sanctuary. Marisha, my therapist probably gave me best prenatal massage ever!! I enjoyed every minute of my massage, pressure, way she worked it around, everything about it was just perfect! Waiting room and locker room are very clean and nice with all available products necessary when you visiting spa. Only down point during my visit was that I was schedule at 4:15, I came about 30 min earlier. My therapist picked me from waiting room at 4:21, and while she explained me everything, arrange pillows and left me to lay down it past additional time so she started with massage at 4:30 what left me on 45 min massage when I paid for an hour. I know it's only 15 min, but when you craving massage I find my every minute on that table precious. I made another appointment in 10 days, so hopefully I will get my full time 60 min session! Overall, more than amazing prenatal massage, nice clean environment and as I said, I am going back again so that means I liked it a lot!! read more

My best friend surprised me with a prenatal massage here, and I could not have been more pleased. I am 33 weeks pregnant, and my massage therapist talked to me about my aches and offered solutions outside of the massage table. Every part of the massage felt so amazing-- from the position on the table to her expert pressure points. I felt so relaxed afterward. She told me that all of their therapists are prenatal certified. While I previously had good experiences at Soho Sanctuary, I will no longer be a client. I made a last minute appointment online for a facial. The next morning I realized I made a mistake with a time and attempted to reschedule. I was told I was within the 24 hour cancellation window, and could not reschedule. The women on the phone explained that when I booked I received a notice of their cancelation policy via email. I realize this is their policy, but the women on the phone justified the $140 charge by saying they told me about the policy via email. The fact that the email came outside of the penalty free cancellation/rescheduling window (and after I had booked the appointment) further annoyed me. When I brought up that I received this notice after I booked (and thus could not cancel the appointment because I found the cancellation policy objectionable), she said I had been there many times before and should have known about the cancellation policy. I probably should have known about the cancellation policy, yes, but it had been sometime since I had been there. Clearly, in their eyes, being a repeat client entitles you to worse (and not better) treatment. Following this exchange, I went back to see if this cancelation policy was clear during the online booking process. You could go to a hyperlink explaining the 24 hour policy, but it did not contain language about what would happen if you originally booked within 24 hours. read more

I just had a 60 minute massage with Elisabeth- and she was amazing! Super attentive (asked me twice to ensure the pressure was ok) but wasn't the type of massage therapist that constantly tried to talk to you. I mentioned before the massage that my low back and shoulders were tight. I always mention that before a massage and a lot of times therapists will not spend extra time on it. However, she did! I left feeling like jello and floating on a cloud. I will definitely be back to her! In regards to the spa, my removal of a star is based on two things. 1) The tips are cash only. They have an ATM in the spa, but it charges you a $3 fee. They never mentioned tips were cash only on their site or in their confirmation email, so I was little upset with that. 2) Their quiet area is great (comfy chair, great magazines, amazing tea), but their waxing room is right next store. The woman getting her wax and her waxer were having a full on conversation, and because the walls were so thin you could hear everything. They even said the "F" word a few times, which shocked me a little. I definitely was a bit more stressed out sitting there. Luckily, Elisabeth reduced that significantly. Overall, I'd be back for Elisabeth, but I highly suggest the spa figure out something with their so-called "quiet area" read more

I don't usually write reviews and this horrible experience happened a while ago, but it was so disrespectful and poor customer service that I still think about it. So I'm writing a review. I had an appointment with Soho Sanctuary scheduled and called the morning of my appointment because my menstrual cycle unexpectedly started. I have extremely bad cramps and nausea which go in waves, but the first 2 days I usually cannot go out. And I definitely dont want to be naked and have someone rubbing on my body. I called to see if I could reschedule. They said because it was the day of, I could not and would be charged the full amount if I didn't show up. I thought surely if I explained to a manager that I was actually ill and that there would be no way I would be able to enjoy this massage I had been looking forward to, they would find a way to make an exception (or at least not charge me the full amount). The manager did not budge one bit and was extremely condescending and disrespectful. She told me that a massage would actually help me with my cramps. I think I would know what would or would not be good for my body, how dare she try to minimize my experience. She also told me that I had only been there once, and only referred 2 people to their venue and therefore, they couldn't make an exception for me. So I guess if I had spent more money at their establishment, she would've had more sympathy for me. For an establishment focused on women, they had no consideration and were condescending about a very typical female situation. Shame on them. read more

I had an awesome day at soho sanctuary. It's a small but lovely spa in the soho area. You get access to the amenities of the spa with any service you get. They offer manicures, pedicures and all kinds of massages. I got an aromatherapy massage. This one takes place in the big, dome massage room which created such a nice ambiance. The massage also included accu pressure work which was new for me and great! I found my masseuse to be really friendly and well trained. She created a calm and pleasant environment for me. I also loved getting to use the steam room, showers and all of the fun Dr. Hauschka lotions and products available for use in the locker room. read more

I visited Soho Sanctuary back in September when I was a very swollen 9 months pregnant and anxious to give birth. My husband gifted me with a prenatal package here which included a facial and a massage. By far one of the most amazing spa experiences I've had in a long time and I probably was not an easy guest to please considering my condition. Haha! My massage therapist Anna was amazing! She addressed all my concerns and made sure I left there super relaxed and ready to take on childbirth! Lol. My facial with Yekatrina was perfect as well. Very gentle on my super sensitive skin but also addressed my hormonal blemishes and sent me into Labor and Delivery looking amazing! I'm kind of shocked to see the negative reviews on here. I've been getting massages regularly here for most of my seven years in NYC, and they've all ranged from excellent to brain-meltingly delightful. My two cents: Get yourself a deep tissue massage with Ere. Arrive 20 minutes early for a steam, a shower and to chill out with some magazines and tea, and then prepare to have your worldly cares shellacked to some distant vault. I *dare* you to attempt stress of any kind while she works that 10-year old knot out of your back. I've been to lots of spas in NYC, and yeah, they're mostly great, too. But I keep coming back to Soho Sanctuary, because they are consistently the best, because I love the eucalyptus scented steam room, the big fluffy robes, the lovely cucumber water and snacks, the top notch products they use on your skin and stock in the changing room, and because the massage therapists are impeccably professional, respectful, focused and well-trained. And as much as I'd sometimes like to treat my guy friends to this experience, I love that this place is women only. I've just hit the "one too many" mark on the creepy moleste-y massage quota, and dammit, I am just not willing to endure that ever again. I really appreciate the women-friendly, positive vibe. Elisabeth was a fantastic masseause! She asked questions about my needs and even provided advice on certain things to help me loosen up in the future. She applied tons of pressure, which hurt but was really relaxing in the end. I almost fell asleep and it was really comfortable and the experience was comfortable too. The spa as a whole was really friendly - Marciel at the front desk was super sweet and attentive! The locker room/bathroom was really clean and provided you with lots of amenities/toiletries. I came here on a gift certificate and I'd say the prices are a bit on the expensive side normally but if you can afford it, it's a great spa! I've visited Soho Sanctuary a few times and I absolutely love this spa. The receptionists are professional and friendly. My massage therapist was amazing!! Not only did she restore my body, throughout the massage she spoke to me about the tension that she felt in my body and why she was working particular areas. I don't know about anyone else, but it was really helpful to learn these things during the massage. I got a sense, in real time about what I need to do to care for my body. I also love to sit in the Eucalyptus steam bath whenever I visit. It's another wonderful aspect of the spa experience. Although I know the spa is busy, I have been lucky enough to be in the steam room alone and there's nothing more relaxing. Lastly, I totally recommend the CBD massage (and foot bath). If you carry a lot of tension in your back like I do, this will work wonders. I'm overdue for my next appointment! read more

I am REALLY disappointed in this place. I'm definitely not pessimistic about trying new things, and I normally don't complain but I have several issues to address regarding this place. I actually discovered this place via yelp... I desperately needed a pedi before going back to college in the mountains for 3 months, and considering the 55 dollar price, I was expecting a fair bit of treatment. When I walked into this place, it seemed nice... but it was REALLY empty, which kind of freaked me out. After my experience, I can see why people wouldn't get any sort of mani/pedi there. I'm someone who likes to splurge on pedicures because I tend to suffer from chronic tired feet. I normally go to Korean nail salons that offer extremely good service. The service wasn't necessarily bad but I wasn't satisfied., but when it came to massaging, it felt pretty weak. Not to mention she didn't bother to check the temperature of the towels.... which practically burned me. Oh, and she made my cuticles bleed, and it's been about three weeks after I went and... my big toe is still pretty much in pain. I'm scheduled for a doctor's visit in a couple of days. They use typical scrubs/lotions you can buy from sephora... so I don't think its worth the money either, honestly. I would strongly suggest avoiding this place. like... STRONGLY. read more

I had such a wonderful experience today with Kat (massage) and Liz (facial). I did a head to toe massage and it was great having a full 90 minutes to get the whole body + some problem areas worked on. She was soothing and firm pressure all at the same time which can be a hard balance. Liz, was great at explaining everything that was going on throughout the facial and she even got me to try and face peel which really helped brighten my skin. Two words: relaxing and comfortable. I came here for a manicure and eyebrows, and it wasn't half-bad. Granted, I wasn't expecting much after reading some of the reviews from here and elsewhere, but it was actually quite a pleasant experience. The woman who did my manicure and my eyebrow (multi-talented!) was very sweet. Manicure: Overall, done very nicely. Usually, when I get manicures, there would be a thin strip on the side of my nail that just didn't get painted on. However, the woman did a very good job of making sure it looked right. :) Eyebrows: Literally took about 5 minutes. She was quick and it was relatively painless. And they turned out pretty well! Thumbs Up: Private, Quiet, Comfortable Thumbs Down: Obscure place (it was on the second floor of a random building in Soho), relatively pricey This is just a neutral statement and observation - but during the 50 minutes I was there, I was the only person at the place. I had a Brazilian wax with Kavita and she was so amazing and thorough! It had been a while since my last wax. I took a break because of a horrific experience at a different spa. Not sure what kind of wax was used, but it must have been extremely high quality because there was no need to re-wax any of the areas. Afterward, my skin was so smooth; it was as if there were nutrients working into my skin days after. Kavita is also very personable and works quite quickly. Cannot wait to return! read more

My recent experience was much better and far more therapeutic! Apple really worked out the kinks in my neck and back, and the pressure level was much more to my liking. I'm a spa girl and treat myself to a massage at least monthly. I tried Soho Sanctuary because of the $25 off massage promotion and am really glad I did! The star of the show was my massage therapist- she was AMAZING. If you go, ask for Kathiana!! Her pressure was fantastic and she checked in with me often. I have a knee injury and she focused on the "trigger" points nearby...I could go on but she is a true professional and extremely gifted. I will definitely go back to see her. The Spa itself is nice enough, I wish the couches in the waiting area were a little more plush, also wasn't crazy about the locker area....something about toilets and showers all being open air in the same row troubles me. As a sensitive skinned women who has gone all organic, I was drawn to Soho Sanctuary based on their use of Dr. Haushka products for a facial. I went specifically based on this. The esthetician, Jessica, was very kind in listening to my warning regarding my very pale, very sensitive skin, however chose to use some sort of citrus peal along with other products that irrupted my skin in a terrible allergic reaction. I came to SS to get a facial for a trip I was taking a few days after my facial, which turned out to be my engagement celebration. I now have a scar from said reaction. I called the SS to explain the situation and seek some resolution and spoke to Samantha, the manager?, who was incredibly understanding and empathetic. She did everything to resolve my experience and suggested in the future to spot check products days prior to facial in order to judge my skins reaction without scarring in a conspicuous spot. I will be back. This facility is lovely. Very clean and the staff is very personal. Note: DO show up 20-30 minutes prior to massage or facial and take advantage of their steam room. Soho Sanctuary = worst spa I've ever visited. I've NEVER left a spa more tense than when I arrived. Ever. Conclusion = guest accommodation means nothing to the folks at Soho Sanctuary. Although I'm a member of Exhale Spa (this place sets THE BAR for spas and ultimate core yoga), Gold's Gym, OM Factory (acroyoga) and Aqualia Spa (best value for 6 months of pre-paid facials with Shelly), I like to allocate my credit card rewards points toward spa treatments to try out new spas. So, I book an appointment at Soho Sanctuary for Mon 2/11. I realize right before I arrive that I've forgotten my gift cards on my desk in my office. So, of course, I mention to the desk worker, "we have two options here: a/ I can run back to my office or b/ I can have my assistant send over the card information needed for processing." We go with option b because she "doesn't want me running around the city." I spend the 30 minutes that I should have been in the steam room contacting my assistant, having her gather the necessary information to process the cards, waiting, then flipping the email with photographs of the cards (barcodes, unique id codes, everything to process the cards) over to the desk worker. At this point, I'm not upset. It's my own damn fault right. Plus, now that I've gotten all this out of the way, I can sit and relax for the hour they remain open after my spa treatment. Wrong. Desk worker walks me to the changing area all the while trying to upsell me additional spa treatments. 1st rule of sales: know your audience. And definitely know when you're selling to a salesperson. Spas can always be so tacky with this move. Have my deep cleansing facial. Below average facial due to minimal extraction but, I must admit, above average hand and foot massages. So I gave her her due 20%. Post facial, more upselling. But at this point I'm ready to buy so it's all good. I'm in-market to buy a body cream and mentioned that I am exploring new facial products as I'm running low on my Dermalogica at home. I've got all sorts of potential purchases on the counter. And now I'm about to head back to relax for a good hour. And here's when Desk Girl lays it on me: "Unfortunately, we have to charge you because we need to have the gift cards in-hand." I'm like, "okay, didn't we have this conversation prior to my treatment? Like when I said, 'this would be the time to tell me if I need to run back to my office.'" I provide all sorts of work-around suggestions. I call the good folks at SpaFinder, who were totally professional, and said they had no problem speaking with the spa and validating my gift cards. One suggestion after another shot down and I keep getting this "un-for-tun-ate-ly..." crap from the desk worker. All the while I'm *supposed* to be enjoying some relaxation. So, at this point it's now 8:45 and because of their inflexibility, I've agreed to run all the way down to FiDi to my office to grab the cards while she says she'll wait for me. 9:45 I show up back at the spa with the cards and nobody is there. And, the most laughable thing about all this is, she left me a voicemail that she was simply shifting my appt in the books to the following day and I can return then with the physical cards tomorrow to pay. I didn't realize just how good this place is until I went to what are supposed to be the most amazing spas in the city. The experience here is relaxing and premium from start to finish. The robes, the showers, the products, the snacks and tea in the waiting area. And then, of course, the services. I love facials with Amity and massages have been great too. I'm sorry for ever having cheated on you, Soho Sanctuary. I won't do it again. Promise. read more
