Moss growing in between double pane windows.

Shilo Inns is barely a functional hotel, and it looks like they haven't done any maintenance or improvements in over two decades. I wish that I had read these Yelp reviews before making a reservation here. Although the rooms were large and spacious, the entire hotel just looks run down and like they hadn't done anything to upkeep it for a very long time. When you're in the upper floors, you can see the tons of moss that has grown all over the roofs. Within the rooms themselves, everything's dated and looks worn down. The double pane windows in my room had moss...yeah you read that right....moss growing between the window panes (See attached photos). Also, the balcony was flooded, dirty, with algae growing on the outdoor chairs and table (Again see photos) making the balcony unusable. Although the room that I was in had great views of the beach and ocean, it was hard to enjoy since the windows were so dirty and look like they hadn't been cleaned in months. In the rest of the hotel, the carpeting in many areas including the elevator are coming apart at the seams, the automatic front door works only when it wants to, and the restaurant and bar were closed. There was a health department notice posted at the restaurant (See attached photo). Although the staff here were very nice and tried to accommodate you when they were able, there wasn't a lot they could do. As examples, when I checked in, they said there is no housekeeping service and that I needed to ask at the front desk for extra towels if I needed them. I also noticed that the rooms had several places for kleenex boxes but no kleenex. When I asked at the front desk for kleenex, they said that they had none and that they would get a delivery soon but didn't know when. When I asked for extra shampoo, they said they were out of shampoo, and they wouldn't have any until corporate delivered them and that they weren't allowed to purchase shampoo on their own. The front desk clerk then began suggesting places to buy shampoo. When I asked for extra soap, the clerk had to go check and gave me one saying that it may be the last. And one of the weirdest things, at check in, the front desk staff said that wifi was available but that it's not password protected, and strongly warned against doing any banking or other security sensitive activities online. I felt completely ripped off since they charged me $150 a night before taxes with no amenities, no services, no shampoo, and no kleenex. Really, the basics in running a hotel. I'll never stay here again, and you should stay at your own risk.

The outdated mattress gave us a very uncomfortable night of little sleep. $309 a night. No thanks. Never again.

WORST Hotel I've ever stayed at. Our bed was so uncomfortable, we had a rough night trying to get some sleep and we discovered why. The next morning, I pulled up the fitted sheet and noticed that the manufactured tag is dated May of 2006. $309 a night is ridiculous! NOTHING has changed from 25 years ago. I'm not trying to act like a Karen, I'm just being honest.

So bad we had to block our own window

Just a sad way to spend time. We had a pet room and were relegated to a bottom floor. Not bad you say? Imagine having a glass door with not covering so that everyone walking by can look right into your room. Still not other room options? Thanks Shilo. No amenities with the ongoing Covid excuse. I had not eaten McDonald's in 7 years, but was forced to eat there. Yes - being near the beach is wonderful. I imagined the view from any room above the first floor and we walked to the beach at least 5x during our abbreviated stay. The staff seemed sad and overwhelmed. Setting the standard for a sad visit. Not a slam on all of Ocean Shores, but our thought of having a fun pet friendly getaway was not fun for us. Our dog Rocco of course had a hoot.

I am a low key, easy to please person when it comes to hotels, as long as it is CLEAN and safe. This place is safe but it is beyond dirty, grimy, and worn down. Trust me and the other reviews about this place.....do not hit book. Check out Best Western or Quinault Casino Hotel, Canterbury Inn or an airbnb, or heck..... head up the road to Seabrook..... but by all means...SKIP THIS PLACE. Customer photographs show the true state of this place. On to the details... I am sure when this place was built (70's?) it was swanky and quite the resort. I stayed here in the late 90's and it was ok. Fast forward to 2019.... They have not invested money into this place. The carpets are stained, tiles are broken and cracked, dogs run off leash in the lobby, the pool is absolutely disgusting, the steam and sauna room weren't working when we were there, the towels are threadbare and thin, there were flies in our room, the lobby looked like the lobby of an old folks home in the 80's with old outdated dirty furniture and slime streaked fish tanks, the hallways smelled old and musty, the patios overlooking the beach were covered in bird crap, so much that we couldn't use the chairs or lean on the balcony railing. There was bird crap on the windows and the curtains were dark and musty. The tv's are old and not flat screen (we don't come to the beach to watch tv but COME ON tv's are not that expensive anymore). We passed housekeeping In the hallway the morning after our first night and she asked if we needed servicing...I told her she already had. She said, "oh I always forget what rooms I have done so I have to ask people". UM. What kind of system is this? Our adjoining kids room was never serviced. My mother in law, who was on this trip with us, stopped by the front desk to explain her disappointment in the hotel. The gal working said, "well we have the biggest sales for Shilo hotel stays so the company diverts the profit to all of the other properties to keep them running smoothly". Uh, what? She then said, "unless people tell us we can't fix issues". Are you blind? Do you read reviews? Give me a break. I understand it is not the poor employees fault they work in this pit. They are doing the best they can with no help from the owners. There was grass growing in most of the gutters. Just general disrepair everywhere you look. We paid 270 a night. I wouldn't stay here again if it was 89 a night. The restaurant was abysmal. Hardly anyone in there, that should have been our first clue. Food was Denny's quality at expensive prices. Seriously, keep looking. The only thing this place has going for it is easy parking and easy walk into the "downtown area". You can see the beach off in the distance if you are on the 3rd or 4th floor, but you can see the beach from other hotels too.

The restaurant and lounge have been closed for 4 years!

I visited here back in 2020, but thought I'd give it another shot, hoping the fog would lift, it didn't, however in July of 2024 this place has seriously gone downhill. I wish I could say something nice about it, but I can't. It advertises a restaurant, but the notice you get the day BEFORE you arrive mentions that it's closed, by then it's too late to cancel. For what I paid for two night I feel ripped off.

Snacks left in the HVAC for us and you!

And the gods were smiling benevolently, treating us to summertime sunshine and warmth even though the calendar claimed it was October. We paid $79 plus tax for our room at Oasis Motel, which we found on Yelp. Compared to other lodging in Ocean Shores, this is a very reasonable rate. Also, Oasis Motel is located conveniently within walking distance to shops and restaurants in very tiny Ocean Shores. It looks like this is a family-owned business and we could see them all bustin' their butts working around the property. Our room was clean, comfortable and roomy. It had a microwave and fridge. The TV had oodles of channels. The TV remote worked fine, that is, until Sunday morning when it ceased operation. We were going grrr dang it, but then realized the problem was that JP had draped a hoodie over the modem next to the TV, so the signal was not penetrating to the modem. When the hoodie was properly placed on a hanger, the TV worked fine once again. Oh, there is free Wi-Fi too. The colorful full-sized mural depicting a rustic Italian villa and courtyard was very cool. I do have to say the room did have a pungent musty scent when we first walked in. The motel was apparently aware of this and had stuck one of those Glade plug-ins into an outlet in the bathroom. I don't spend much time by the ocean (though I wish I did), but suspect mustiness is endemic to coastal buildings, because of the salt air and humidity. In any case, we quickly got used to the smell, and after a time, no longer noticed it. We bought a couple candles at the nearby grocery store to freshen the room, but that was really unnecessary. But to be clear, the musty scent is not a show-stopper and we would stay here again. You get a lot of value for your money at Oasis Motel. Check out is at 11:00, but the front desk was copacetic with extending our checkout time to noon.

The atmosphere had a subtle coziness, but the Airbnb photos made it look much more updated, renovated, and inviting than it actually was. When we arrived, it was clear the chalet was dated. For the price per night, we expected more. Right away we noticed cobwebs on the walls and ceilings, heavy dust throughout, and even dust bunnies under the main bed. The fridge was also incredibly loud--sounding like a jet engine switching on and off all night. Other issues stood out: * Towels were limited, and the ones provided had hair in them. * The bathroom faucet's water pressure sprayed everywhere, forcing us to use our already-limited towels just to clean up. * The blinds couldn't be pulled open because of old, crusted bird droppings on the outside. We understand this is the ocean, but these clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. * The mattresses were by far the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on--making it difficult to get any real rest. What made things more frustrating was their very strict check-in and check-out policy, which they explained was due to their cleaning crew's schedule. Normally, that would make sense, but given the lack of cleanliness we experienced, it made their "no exceptions" stance confusing. That being said, I did appreciate a few things. They were upfront in the listing about the steps leading up to the second floor, and they weren't exaggerating--they really are steep, so it was good to know ahead of time. I also appreciated some of the amenities inside the chalet, which made parts of the stay more comfortable. The chalet itself has good bones and could be a great place with better upkeep--thorough cleaning, fresher linens, updated mattresses, and a little extra care inside and out. As it stands, though, it doesn't live up to its price point. I'd be hesitant to recommend this spot without those updates and at this point would suggest checking out other options in Ocean Shores first.

A much needed ocean therapy was calling my name and I drove west. Ended up in Ocean Shores. I left my town due to how crazy busy it would be with parades and a carnival, not knowing what's in store here. A pleasant surprise to see the streets lined with families. Anyway, got to shop, enjoy the festivities, and more importantly spend time walking the beach. Gorgeous day! Took a chance, walked in, asked if there were any vacancies, and they had the one. It was a king bedroom with a partial view... and I took it. It was an extremely spacious room, designed for wheelchair access. Even the shower had a ramp (pretty cool). Either way, the place was busy and packed like smoked clams in a tin can! The pool below me was busy as all get out, and people were coming and going... like me. Off for some shopping, parade activities, some local food and drinks, but more importantly... the Beach! Was able to sneak out and catch a beautiful sunset, as well. Gorgeous! There were some issues with the the faucets turning in the opposite direction for water temperature at the sinks, and it would be pretty nice if the Body Soap and Shampoo dispensers were labeled. They both looked identical... so who knows what I ended up using but at least it was clean! Other than that, some noisy tenants above me but whatever... hotel can't control kids jumping up and down and off the beds. As we entered our room, we were content with the cleanliness of our room and the different amenities. The TV was a little strange to use but after we figured it out, there was no issues. First time staying at an Inn/AirBNB type place. At first, it felt strange to let ourselves into this big beautiful house and to be the only ones there. Especially with how well they took care of us for our anniversary. Every little detail was thought out and taken care of. The lady who was working there while we were there could not have been better. Super nice and attentive. WE LOVED THE COLLINS. I have been going to Ocean Shores my entire life but always stayed on the main hotel strip. The Collins is on the backside of Ocean Shores and very secluded from the tourist-y parts of the town. The house is gorgeous. A huge house with so many different things in it to do right across the street from the beach. The Collins has that beautiful, awesome Ocean Shores beach aesthetic while also being a very upscale, beautiful inn. My favorite thing about The Collins [aside from the hot tub] is just how well thought out everything is. From the all day snacks and breakfast. To every little touch they add. The people who created and run The Collins are obviously big fans of this type of Inn and really worked hard to create their ultimate image of it. And you can feel that in every little detail of The Collins experience. We also liked the french toast, Starbucks egg bites and all of the things they give you for breakfast here. The pastries were my favorite but we liked everything. We were also incredibly impressed at our room fridge having some nice juice and snacky type options. The better half and I loved this experience. We had such a nice time here. The hot tub, the wine, the chocolates, the kick ass shower, the nice breakfast and snacks.
