So, Shilo Inn had been shut down by Ocean Shores authorities and could only reopen after they remedied specific problems. Unbeknownst to the authorities, they had reopened without permission and were caught this year with paying guests. They were ordered to vacate guests and close their doors. "Last July, a Transient Accommodations Inspection Report prepared by the Washington State Department of Health indicated overflowing garbage, flies in the fitness room bathroom and spiders in guest laundry, lack of current boiler certificates, lack of adequate hot and cold water available to guests at all times, stained carpeting and mattresses and peeling wallpaper in certain rooms." Only reason for even one star is the location and dog friendly. We were so disappointed. Many years ago this was one of the best hotels at Ocean Shores. Room was extremely outdated. The beds looked like the three bears story " Someones been sleeping in my bed" . Sheets were extremely wrinkled, the duvets were so old that they were lumpy.. see pics. Key cards had to be replaced 4 times in less then 24 hrs. House phones would not ring the front desk. Carpet was stained. Zero towels in the bathroom so had to go to front desk to ask for them. First the staff was friendly, especially the check in afternoon lady. Our room was clean and the bed was perfect. The pool and hot tub were also nice and in great working order. The property is a little dated. We had to go back to the front desk three times to get our key to work. We had to be let in the pool because our key did not work also. Staff did say they were due for an upgrade but was very nice about getting us new keys. Only giving it 3 stars due to some overlooked cleaning as there was dog feces in the lobby. read more

Shilo Inns is barely a functional hotel, and it looks like they haven't done any maintenance or improvements in over two decades. I wish that I had read these Yelp reviews before making a reservation here. Although the rooms were large and spacious, the entire hotel just looks run down and like they hadn't done anything to upkeep it for a very long time. When you're in the upper floors, you can see the tons of moss that has grown all over the roofs. Within the rooms themselves, everything's dated and looks worn down. The double pane windows in my room had moss...yeah you read that right....moss growing between the window panes (See attached photos). Also, the balcony was flooded, dirty, with algae growing on the outdoor chairs and table (Again see photos) making the balcony unusable. Although the room that I was in had great views of the beach and ocean, it was hard to enjoy since the windows were so dirty and look like they hadn't been cleaned in months. In the rest of the hotel, the carpeting in many areas including the elevator are coming apart at the seams, the automatic front door works only when it wants to, and the restaurant and bar were closed. There was a health department notice posted at the restaurant (See attached photo). Although the staff here were very nice and tried to accommodate you when they were able, there wasn't a lot they could do. As examples, when I checked in, they said there is no housekeeping service and that I needed to ask at the front desk for extra towels if I needed them. I also noticed that the rooms had several places for kleenex boxes but no kleenex. When I asked at the front desk for kleenex, they said that they had none and that they would get a delivery soon but didn't know when. When I asked for extra shampoo, they said they were out of shampoo, and they wouldn't have any until corporate delivered them and that they weren't allowed to purchase shampoo on their own. The front desk clerk then began suggesting places to buy shampoo. When I asked for extra soap, the clerk had to go check and gave me one saying that it may be the last. And one of the weirdest things, at check in, the front desk staff said that wifi was available but that it's not password protected, and strongly warned against doing any banking or other security sensitive activities online. I felt completely ripped off since they charged me $150 a night before taxes with no amenities, no services, no shampoo, and no kleenex. Really, the basics in running a hotel. The pictures are staged. It looks nothing like the pictures.... The outside looks okay, but the conditions inside the rooms are horrible. I would not stay at this so called "hotel" ever again. It advertises that it has a pool but there is a sign that it is closed for maintenance, however a staff member mentioned that the pool has been closed for sometime. Don't make the same mistake I did and booked a reservation based on the pictures. I stayed at the Shilo at Ocean Shores a couple weeks ago for a quick 24 hour trip. It was my boyfriend and I along with our three month old baby and we stayed in one of the junior suites with two queen beds. Check in was a simple process, staff was kind. Plenty of parking at the hotel and it's located literally right off the beach so there's a nice view as well. The hotel itself is super outdated, but that's most hotels at Ocean Shores. The hotel could definitely use some new carpets, as the ones they have throughout the hotel and in the rooms are pretty gross looking. Water pressure from the shower is basically non-existent, and they only provided us with two towels for our stay... We called down for more and they happily brought more up, thankfully! The bonus is that they have a large indoor pool - had my older kids tagged along they would've loved that. We might make a point to stay here with them again in the future so they can take advantage of that after we're done playing on the beach. The restaurant and lounge seem to be permanently closed, or maybe closed while they repair the exterior of the restaurant? Can't tell. Overall a decent place to stay when in town. read more

We stayed here in March for our Annual Work Conference. It was not a great experience. The hotel is run down, the guest rooms were filthy, no soap, shampoo, conditioner, water glasses, coffee for the pot, no coffee cups, no extra blankets, pillows shaped like little squares and no housekeeping during our stay. The rooms were not ready for most of my staff after 4pm. Some rooms had no heat, smelled like smoke or sweaty body odor. The hotel had stained carpets, wallpaper falling off walls, tiles loose in the hotel main lobby, dust from 6 years thick on everything. Now let's move on to the conference meeting room and catering. We got there on Monday night. The meeting room was not ready for us. It was filthy from the weekend before. One guy running around trying to get it ready. The catering was late for all our meals. On the second morning breakfast was late because the catering cook was a no call no show. The food was not great at all. Eggs burnt, potato's not done, pastries were from the local IGa. Do not stay at this hotel! They had no hot water, my room wasn't ready on time, they failed to call me when my room was ready so I was just waiting around for a couple hours, my room key didn't work when I finally got my room late in the night (which took me 20 minutes to find someone to fix it). The only saving grace was they agreed to give me a 40 percent discount on my stay, but since I booked through BookOnline I had to have BookOnline call them and the manager would approve it. Of course, when I did that, they said they were a non-refundable hotel and couldn't give me the discount they agreed to but I could call and maybe they'd give me a gift certificate (I have zero desire to stay at your garbage hotel again!). My wife and I booked a overnight get away here June 7th 2025. Found swimming pool, hot tub area disgustingly dirty. We went to our room to shower and found no towels , wash clothes, soap or anything. luckily we had our own that we brought by chance. We then started looking at the room the windows were very dirty looked like mold on one of them. while on the patio I noticed the gutters looked like planters there was so much plant life growing in them. The longer we sat there talking about it the less I wanted to sleep in the bed. We grabbed out stuff and left 9:15 pm and drove home to Issaquah. Would not recommend this hotel for anybody. The town was busy and hotels were full but not this one. We seen one person behind the desk the whole time we were there, no towels and I mean not one, dirty bathroom floor, locks on the balcony don't work. Seems they should sell or close. I had not eaten McDonald's in 7 years, but was forced to eat there. Yes - being near the beach is wonderful. I imagined the view from any room above the first floor and we walked to the beach at least 5x during our abbreviated stay. The staff seemed sad and overwhelmed. Setting the standard for a sad visit. I knew this was the slow time of year for hotels in this area, so I decided to book the Shilo Inn instead of our normal hotel since I thought it was a step above where we normally stay. When I approached the front desk, I noticed a sign that said there was no coffee at this time. Assuming it meant that they didn't have any in the lobby right now, I continued to check in. When the person at the front desk handed me they access cards she said "do not put these cards near your computer, phone or any magnet because it will erase the programming because the system is from the nineties and it has issues". After getting the access cards, she told us that there was no coffee in the rooms either and there was also no shampoo or conditioner. She stated that they will probably have some in two days and have been trying to get corporate to send them some for awhile. I think I was still in shock when we entered the room and looked around. There was one small square of packaged soap on the edge of the tub and none at the sink nor the sink outside the restroom. After washing my hands, I looked for a towel and there were two large towels folded up on a shelf in the shower, none by the sink, and only one by the sink outside the bathroom. The windows looking out towards the ocean and on the deck railing are filthy. I asked for an upper floor when reserving the room and I was put on the second floor and I know that there were plenty of rooms open since there were only 8 or so cars in the lot at 5pm. We can barely see part of the ocean from a corner of the deck. I understand when it is off season for them to have their restaurant and bar shut down, some cuts to staff etc., but I can't believe that there are rooms without proper toiletries and coffee. I would have marched down to the local store to get mini shampoos at least. URGH!! read more

DO NOT. I repeat, DO NOT let them fool you into booking here! They were recently shut doen due to health violations, a gas leak, sewer issues and unpaid bills. It has also had reports of bed bugs!! We unknowingly booked a room for Sep 5-6 and the room was disgusting. If we could've found a room elsewhere, we would've moved, but there was a "furry" convention and everything was sold out. They have the nerve to charge $175-$200+ per night and they should not even be open at all. The restaurant was closed as was the pool. Everything else was filthy and old. The people who are left working there should be embarrased to let anyone even stay there. You will be sorry. This place needs to be shut down and maybe even condemned. They could try and do a mass cleaning, upgrade and remodel but it will costs tons of $$ that it doesn't sound like the owners will have any time soon. Hello: We have been coming to this Inn for years. Since 1993. The past two times we have been have been yucky. Upon arrival you see an "abandoned" mini van from Shilo Inn. You see trash overflowing. Green mold all over outside of inn. The gutters are filled with moss, grass and what appears to be a small tree or bush. Going through the double glass doors they are rusty and dirty. Aquarium is filthy. Front desk staff acts as though we have bothered them. They are quick to tell us restaurant is still not open. Oh and surprise the pool is closed. Yet messages we get via emails say the opposite for both. The front desk staff tells us they no longer have housecleaning until you check out. Front desk forgets to get cards synched to open room. While waiting for spouse to return with room key..... unprofessional housekeeping is speaking badly about their boss oh and yeah they forgot to clean bathroom next room over from ours. The response is oh well maybe they won't notice is the phrase used by other.Ugh!!! Once we go in to room it's bad. Based on what was heard I do a walk through. Stains in toilet. Limited towels. Only one glass. Ice metal bucket has nasty in it. Mini fridge needs to be de iced. No regular sugar packets. And later day two we find a dark pubic hair on counter near microwave. Two chairs have what can only be described as sex stains. Door to balcony is rotted at bottom. Again gutters are over filling moss and grass. Door to balcony also has dirty glass. Missing towels and no Kleenex. Signs everywhere saying no smoking . But again we smell major pot smoke. Both nights. Hallway and on balcony. Water pressure in tub is weak. Drain is clogged so when showering you are standing in someone else's funk. Toilet bowl has very good water pressure where it shoots water everywhere when you flush. They have finally removed the phones and TVs in the bathrooms but they didn't do anything with the walls that once held them. Wallpaper is outdated and peeling in bathroom. Mattress bent in middle and the pillows are wimpy. AC. Was LOUD. I am sorry we really did like this inn. But it's fallen apart. Two other hotels along same side Sands and The Nautilus are major eye sores and are closed and up for sale. The whole town seems run down. I know it's off season but even when we came in May it was the same. We won't return to this inn until the owners update it. Current price of $200 a night in current condition is way higher than it's worth. Also unsure if it's the bleach used for sheets and towels but we both were itching. The two towels we were given were not big enough for a five year old let alone an adult. Based on the bad reviews on here...... owners should get a clue. read more

I am a low key, easy to please person when it comes to hotels, as long as it is CLEAN and safe. This place is safe but it is beyond dirty, grimy, and worn down. Trust me and the other reviews about this place.....do not hit book. Check out Best Western or Quinault Casino Hotel, Canterbury Inn or an airbnb, or heck..... head up the road to Seabrook..... but by all means...SKIP THIS PLACE. Customer photographs show the true state of this place. On to the details... I am sure when this place was built (70's?) it was swanky and quite the resort. I stayed here in the late 90's and it was ok. Fast forward to 2019.... They have not invested money into this place. The carpets are stained, tiles are broken and cracked, dogs run off leash in the lobby, the pool is absolutely disgusting, the steam and sauna room weren't working when we were there, the towels are threadbare and thin, there were flies in our room, the lobby looked like the lobby of an old folks home in the 80's with old outdated dirty furniture and slime streaked fish tanks, the hallways smelled old and musty, the patios overlooking the beach were covered in bird crap, so much that we couldn't use the chairs or lean on the balcony railing. There was bird crap on the windows and the curtains were dark and musty. The tv's are old and not flat screen (we don't come to the beach to watch tv but COME ON tv's are not that expensive anymore). We passed housekeeping In the hallway the morning after our first night and she asked if we needed servicing...I told her she already had. She said, "oh I always forget what rooms I have done so I have to ask people". UM. What kind of system is this? Our adjoining kids room was never serviced. My mother in law, who was on this trip with us, stopped by the front desk to explain her disappointment in the hotel. The gal working said, "well we have the biggest sales for Shilo hotel stays so the company diverts the profit to all of the other properties to keep them running smoothly". Uh, what? She then said, "unless people tell us we can't fix issues". Are you blind? Do you read reviews? Give me a break. I understand it is not the poor employees fault they work in this pit. They are doing the best they can with no help from the owners. There was grass growing in most of the gutters. Just general disrepair everywhere you look. We paid 270 a night. I wouldn't stay here again if it was 89 a night. The restaurant was abysmal. Hardly anyone in there, that should have been our first clue. Food was Denny's quality at expensive prices. Seriously, keep looking. The only thing this place has going for it is easy parking and easy walk into the "downtown area". You can see the beach off in the distance if you are on the 3rd or 4th floor, but you can see the beach from other hotels too. read more

For this time of year the price was perfect, $120. The view was also pretty good. You can't be that, and those were the only nice things we could say about the room. Regardless of the price, all rooms are expected to be cleaned. We asked if we could check in early and the hotel said the room had to be cleaned. Ok, that's how things work. But that was not the case. First, the beds did not look like the photos, no colorful covers, not a deal breaker, just sharing. The mattress sunk in and had to have been 10+ years old. There was a fireplace and we were excited for the luxury, but the fireplace was inoperable. The mirror over the fireplace had something sprayed on it. (The mirror is about 4.5 feet off the ground) there is a functional heater/AC unit that came with complementary Carmel popcorn in the vents. The windows to the balcony were attacked by a thousand hands, or a dog licked every inch of the windows; to include the balcony glass. The balcony should have been pressure washed, but it matched the dirty windows. The bathroom. For being told to wait for checking because the room needed to be cleaned, I'm not sure if they had even cleaned the bathroom let alone the room. To be honest, a blind person would have done a better job cleaning. There were boogers, hair in the shower and trash left over from the previous guests. The toilet was covered in pee that was left from at least three guests ago. You could see where they just used a swiffer and that would explain why the corners were still grimy. Just filthy. Anything that could have been dusted, wasn't. The brown carpet had nasty stains that you shouldn't have been able to see. We moved the small couch to enjoy the view only to find they hadn't cleaned at all. I say this because there were toys, food, straws and many years of dust built up. During this time in everyone's life, if you're able to get out and with limitations, you think the hotel would do what ever they could do to ensure these hard times would not leave a bad impression on their visitors, but they have. We are all working hard to afford these brief moments of a "vacation". We saw the reviews and thought we'd give it a try anyway. Mistake on our part. If it weren't for the location and price I'd say this was a total waste. Management of this hotel needs to really take action here. Read these reviews and pay attention to what customers are saying. Awful experience...we booked straight through the website and went off if what their website said...it clearly stated restaurant on premises that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner...It also clearly stated room service. We paid $307 for 1 night in a 2 bed room with ripped curtains and blinds, the beds were SO hard that we were up at 5:30, only to be told there is no continental breakfast either We only had 1 1/2 pillows on each bed and 2 towels in the whole room. The rooms clearly need to be updated!! When I contacted the front desk, the lady apologized and said I was right and the website needed to be changed. She offered me a 20% discount until the manager Jennifer could get ahold of me when she got in at 9 a.m.I told her that was acceptable and thanked her. I'm still waiting for Jennifer aka the manager... I travel with my service dog and don't always feel like the stares of people when I take him in a restaurant so I purposely look for hotels with restaurants so if I need to leave with him, at least we're close to the room..this was a big inconvenience and disappointment. It's definitely a 3 Star hotel but for the price we paid to be right near the ocean and the strip of shops it's pretty worth it. When you walk in, their decor is like from 30 years ago. There is an indoor pool, a small gym and a sauna (which was not working). The 4th floor is definitely worth the extra $30 dollars. The views are amazing. The rooms are separated (kind of, by a little small wall). But it was secluded enough that we can put our new born on one end and we can still be ok on the other end without waking him up. My husband thought the tv in the bathroom was awesome. There is a restaurant here but it is very pricy! There is a McDonald's and a subway (which we ended up getting) in walking distance if you didn't want to spend so much money. They got 3 stars because our fridge was not working and there was a puddle of water right in front of it. We called to inform them it wasn't our fault and just got a bunch of ice to keep our drinks cold. read more

If i could give zero stars, i would. Stayed here for one night and experienced mold, broken glass on the patio, and centipedes. So many centipedes - found at least 30 in my room during my stay and hundreds on my patio. When i reported the pest issue to the front desk i was told it was normal and they are aware it's an issue, but management could give me a discount. Two months later and multiple follow ups and i have yet to receive a discount. An infested hotel like this should not be allowed to remain in business. read more

Stayed here with my son and family recently and it was awful. Mold under tub mat, on shower curtain and grouting. Pool was dirty. Balcony had standing water from leaking upper balcony. Floor was dirty and dog hair on pillows. Restaurant is closed. Water damage clearly visible. Stayed at the Shilo again this past weekend and nothing had changed in the past 20 years. It is exactly the same. Run down but still functional, since we spend most of our time in town or on the beach. The restaurant seems to be permanently closed, which kind of sucks but there are plenty of good food options in town. The staff were very helpful. We had two different requests this trip (one for extra towels and one for an extra blanket) and they brought them to our room in less than 15 minutes from making the request. read more

We were headed to another hotel when we found out it had recently flooded and was quite up to par. Someone suggested we go here. Make sure you check the room rates online and then let them know. They will honor the online rate ... which was roughly $50 less than the walk in rate. A pretty old hotel in a beachy community. We had mini suites with views of the ocean. The room itself was pretty good ... had sitting area with TV, refrig and sofa ... half wall separated the sleeping area. The rooms were showing their age but was clean and they had surprisingly soft bath towels. The restaurant was only open for a brief period. The bar opened earlier for "happy hour," but it was one of the warmer days in Washington and they had no air. The bartender was kind enough to find us a fan. We weren't hungry so we had a couple of just ok appetizers. Walked around a bit and when we returned and wanted to get something to eat, the restaurant was already closing ... had to go out to a sandwich shop. Pretty sure I'll not be heading to Ocean Shores anytime soon, but I think I'd check out other facilities before selecting this one again. I think I recall when it first opened back in the 90's. It seemed so big and new...now it is just kind of old and sad. There doesn't seem to have been any updating over the years at all. Probably would not stay here again. Pros: Location is great. It was clean. We had a King bed ocean view room. It is a huge, long room separated by a half partition. The room can sleep 4...2 in the bed & 2 on the other side of the partition in the sofabed. There are two vanities with hairdryers one in the bathroom & one in the entranceway, which can be useful if there are 4 in the room. There are two TVs...although only one is a flat screen. The patio is large. The ironing board flips out of the wall, which is convenient. Kitchen area is convenient with mini fridge, microwave & small sink. Service was friendly. Cons: Halls are kind of dark. The outsides of the doors on all the rooms were scraped, probably from the cleaning carts. Tired looking furniture & peeling wallpaper. No bathmat in the room...you step out of the shower onto a bare tile floor. Only one bar of soap in our room. Our toilet had flushing issues...one minute the water level in the bowl would be low & with the next flush it would be up around the rim...and with no plunger in the room. You can't beat the location. The beach is right there, easy to come and go back to the room. Within walking distance to a few restaurants and shopping as well. The staff was incredibly kind, each one met us with a smile. I will stay here again, as you cannot beat the location. Ths hotel decor is very outdated, but the hotel was clean. read more

DONT PRESS THE BOOK BUTTON! We came here as a last-minute trip to escape Seattle for a few night's and boy, we were very disappointed. We arrive at the hotel, already smells heavy of rotting fish from the restaurant and the lobby had a funny smell. But we thought that was expected with a bit of a run down hotel. The wonderful lady helping us was super kind and patient and I felt bad that she had to work in such a place. Once we get to our room, it smelled like something had died in there. There was what appeared to be blood stains, bleach stains, and crumbs on the ground and furniture. And we got quite the surprise when we pulled back the sheets to find BED BUGS. I wanted to puke. We paid about $200 plus taxes and fees per night for this??? It was completely unacceptable that a hotel would charge so much for a room that looked like it came straight out of Chernobyl. Immediately after reading the trip advisor and reports on this place, we grabbed a luggage cart and booked it to the Best Western down the road. When we arrived at the new hotel at around 9, the receptionist was super understanding and prioritized a room to get cleaned for us to insure that we had a nice clean room to sleep in. Thank god we booked the Shilo inn through Expedia because they refunded us themselves, almost immediately after we showed them the pictures below and explained the conditions. Well, I wasn't expecting much and this property didn't disappoint. But, what the hey, it's Ocean Shores so relatively speaking it was OK. Clean? Not really. Up to date? Please. Maybe the relatively recent casino has pealed off what small margin businesses can extract from the decidedly lower middle class clientele but clearly the folks who own this property have no intention of actually investing in the experience. Clearly they are milking it for as long as they can. Still, the view and location are very nice and the staff has that cheerful, left to their own devises resolve to make the best out of a tough situation. For Ocean Shores it fine. On 5/25/21 I checked into room 213 for a two night stay.  The room was shabby and dirty.  The trash had not been dumped, the patio window was smeared with hand prints, lips and a child's tongue on the window glass.  The removed telephone in the bathroom plug had a months worth of dirt on it at eye level.  The sitting chairs were dangerously shaky.  There was no tea or sugar provided in the room for morning coffee/tea.  Kids were running up and down the hall until 2 am, unsupervised. The fish tank and art in the lobby was beautiful and a real statement in its day but this place needs a remodel.  Cracked floor tile in the entry and by the fish tanks.  The help was friendly but could make no dinner suggestions.  The pool was closed.  The restaurant was closed. The elevator was filthy. End result.  I will never return.  I will never book another Mark Hemstreet Shilo hotel room. read more

Omg! This place is so disgusting. All my friends that have come here for so many years made it seem like this place was the place to be. For a place that so many respect it is the pits. I am sure this place has made nothing but money it is unfortunate that whoever owns this place has let it run down this bad. When you walk in you can tell how filthy and outdated it is. Shame on whoever owns this place because it is located ideally in the ocean shores neighborhood. Besides location you got nothing else. Restaurant/lounge closed. Terrible terrible service at the front desk. No option to check in early in spite of calling them numerous times. They just kept saying room is not ready , call again in 1 hr. Magically the room was ready at 3:57pm. Even after we got the room, the trash and cups were out side the door and had not been picked up by the room service. The elevators are filthy and do t seemed to be cleaned to months together. The one star is for the beach view from the room. Never had such poor experience before! Highly disappointed. read more
