I was a little skeptical to stay here since it was below 4 stars, but I'm glad we ended up booking it. I have so many good things to say about this place. The decorations did not miss. It was octopus themed, and it was excellent. The pictures, the decor, everything was up to par (I personally loved the toilet paper holder that was an octopus). We stayed on the third floor as it allowed pets, and the room was very clean. There was also a balcony, which had a good view, and we did see a few deer as well. There were labeled towels and bowls for the dog which was very cute and thoughtful. We have husky, so we had her sleeping out on the balcony at night, and it worked out really well since she is well-behaved. We did not use the pool or anything so I can't really speak to that. I also overheard a conversation at the desk about if you are coming for a business trip make sure that the name on the card matches the name that's checking in since they did seem to have some issues with getting that figured out. Luckily, we were just staying for the clam festival so it wasn't business related, just thought I would get that information out there just in case. Anyway, when we return to Ocean Shores, we will make sure to book Canterbury inn again.

Found this on hotels.com for a steal. What a cute cute place staff was super nice rooms were very clean and updated. Even though my room was across from the pool it was still quiet They are very good about keeping the curfew of the pool so there isn't noise. It was nice to have a full little kitchen The only appliance was missing was a dishwasher which was okay. The lady at the front desk in the evenings was super nice and pleasant to chat with. I would definitely stay again if my business sends me there. My only teeny weenie complaint would be the bath towels were scratchy. But it won't deter me from coming back. Thank you again to your staff You were phenomenal

We try to visit Ocean Shores at least once a year if not more because we host a travel vlog on YouTube. Look for Braaescapades. We love going to the ocean and Ocean Shores is only 2 hours away from home. It scratches our travel itch and is just far enough away and different to help refresh us from our daily grind. So far however, we haven't found any establishments that stick out from the others and Canterbury Inn is no exception. I just don't understand the thought process of whoever owns these resorts, attractions and establishments. Maybe they just get so much business during the summer months to really not care? Maybe they don't get enough business and are struggling to get by? Each time we visit though, the entire town seems to have gone further downhill. The Canterbury is for all intents and purposes a mediocre resort but it's on par with everywhere else we've stayed. They have an indoor pool that was not heated enough. An uncomfortable hot tub that was also not hot enough. No air conditioning in our room however that may be a one off. No continental breakfast and a slew of rules to follow like those recent VRBO commercials that make fun of the AirBNB owners. We found a deal online. They have a room there on the third floor that seems like it might have been something else previously. It sits above the office area on the parking lot side of the building and has no view of the ocean. It is not a suite, but it was clean and comfortable. It has a small bathroom with a stand-up shower, a king size bed, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. A small window looks out over the parking lot and the main drag. We paid a bit less versus the suites that they are asking closer to $150 per night and that's in the winter!!! Honestly, I would not have paid $150 per night for a suite on February 1st with the gale force winds, freezing rain and snow coming in around us but the price was just enticing enough to get us to book. This resort does a few things backwards in my opinion and I travel a lot so have some good comparisons. They keep your pool towels under your bathroom sink instead of in the pool area. If you lose one, they charge you $20 per towel once you've left. This means that you get one scrawny pool towel per guest, per stay. Not cool. The rooms each have a small DVD player in them and there is a nice size DVD library in the lobby, but they are not for borrowing. You must pay to rent these DVD's and if you do not return them by noon the following day, they hit you with another fee. They have signs all over the resort with rules telling what you cannot do, and it makes staying there a bit uncomfortable. The staff was friendly, but we didn't interact with them too much so that's all I can say about them. I didn't look too hard because I fell under the weather during our visit, but I didn't see any ice machine, nor did I see any signs pointing to one. What we did have were two tiny little ice trays in our mini fridge's freezer with 16 tiny little ice cubes. It was cute however, not practical. There is a nice lobby and an area that looks like a place where breakfast could be served but alas, they offer no such amenity and if they did, they'd probably charge you for that too. There is a cool trail leading from the back of the property out to the beach but be prepared for a long hike. Before you hit the tail, they have signage and even offer up some sand toys for the kids to borrow and take to the beach. No extra charge! Not sure what happens if you don't bring something back though. The trail head warns that you may encounter bears, and I wouldn't recommend traversing the trail after dark unless you bring your own light source. but once you come out of the forest like trail, you still have to hike another half to three quarters of a mile to get to the beach. Pro tip, just drive to the beach! Overall, I would definitely book the same room as long as it remains the same price, but I really hate staying at places where I feel like I'm being nickel and dimed to death. Especially when the amenities offered are subpar or nonexistent. I really would like to see all of the resorts at Ocean Shores step up their game and turn their accommodations into places that draw the masses. The ho-hum atmosphere of these resorts feels like they rely on the fact that there are limited options, and so people will stay there either way. That's the wrong attitude in my opinion and if I were a resort owner anywhere, especially a cool ocean side town like Ocean Shores, I would want to create an exceptional experience for my guests that would keep them talking about us and coming back time after time. For what the Canterbury is, they still have a lot of work to do. Cheers! Edit: Just a few short hours after posting my review, It was rebuked by the manager Shannon R. As you can see from the other reviews, she just cannot help but argue with customers. I've added her reply to the photos for good measure. DO NOT STAY HERE! NOT WORTH IT!

I love everything about the Canterbury Inn. Every summer my family and I come for a week. The location is perfect because it is near all the tourist attractions and a trail to the beach. The lot it's on has a place to eat outside and a place for kids and dogs to play. There rooms are really nice and clean and have a cool view on the first level to the top! If it's a cold day I would recommend the pool because it is heated, has showers to rinse off, and a hot tub. Although the hot tub is meant for only 14 and above and they do occasionally come and check things out. If you are a little bored at night you can come down to the lobby and read a book or rent movies. Also let's say you forgot something at home or would like a souvenir from the hotel they have items that are for affordable prices. The staff is really nice and caring and will help you if you have a complaint ( Which you wouldn't) or need anything. Don't read those bad reviews they just want to deter you so they can have the place to themselves. If you want to have a great time in ocean shores, this is the place for you!

Best service , so nice to us & went above and beyond! Also walk to the beach was amazing view is unbeatable

Clean and cute place to stay for a very reasonable proce. Front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. The unit had a small kitchenette with electric stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishes, etc. Coffee maker with coffee provided as well. Ocean sound can be heard when sliding doors are open. We were tempted to stay another night as it was so comfortable and clean. But we need to head home after being on the road for 10+ days. If anyone is traveling through this area, highly recommend this place.

And the gods were smiling benevolently, treating us to summertime sunshine and warmth even though the calendar claimed it was October. We paid $79 plus tax for our room at Oasis Motel, which we found on Yelp. Compared to other lodging in Ocean Shores, this is a very reasonable rate. Also, Oasis Motel is located conveniently within walking distance to shops and restaurants in very tiny Ocean Shores. It looks like this is a family-owned business and we could see them all bustin' their butts working around the property. Our room was clean, comfortable and roomy. It had a microwave and fridge. The TV had oodles of channels. The TV remote worked fine, that is, until Sunday morning when it ceased operation. We were going grrr dang it, but then realized the problem was that JP had draped a hoodie over the modem next to the TV, so the signal was not penetrating to the modem. When the hoodie was properly placed on a hanger, the TV worked fine once again. Oh, there is free Wi-Fi too. The colorful full-sized mural depicting a rustic Italian villa and courtyard was very cool. I do have to say the room did have a pungent musty scent when we first walked in. The motel was apparently aware of this and had stuck one of those Glade plug-ins into an outlet in the bathroom. I don't spend much time by the ocean (though I wish I did), but suspect mustiness is endemic to coastal buildings, because of the salt air and humidity. In any case, we quickly got used to the smell, and after a time, no longer noticed it. We bought a couple candles at the nearby grocery store to freshen the room, but that was really unnecessary. But to be clear, the musty scent is not a show-stopper and we would stay here again. You get a lot of value for your money at Oasis Motel. Check out is at 11:00, but the front desk was copacetic with extending our checkout time to noon.

The atmosphere had a subtle coziness, but the Airbnb photos made it look much more updated, renovated, and inviting than it actually was. When we arrived, it was clear the chalet was dated. For the price per night, we expected more. Right away we noticed cobwebs on the walls and ceilings, heavy dust throughout, and even dust bunnies under the main bed. The fridge was also incredibly loud--sounding like a jet engine switching on and off all night. Other issues stood out: * Towels were limited, and the ones provided had hair in them. * The bathroom faucet's water pressure sprayed everywhere, forcing us to use our already-limited towels just to clean up. * The blinds couldn't be pulled open because of old, crusted bird droppings on the outside. We understand this is the ocean, but these clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. * The mattresses were by far the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on--making it difficult to get any real rest. What made things more frustrating was their very strict check-in and check-out policy, which they explained was due to their cleaning crew's schedule. Normally, that would make sense, but given the lack of cleanliness we experienced, it made their "no exceptions" stance confusing. That being said, I did appreciate a few things. They were upfront in the listing about the steps leading up to the second floor, and they weren't exaggerating--they really are steep, so it was good to know ahead of time. I also appreciated some of the amenities inside the chalet, which made parts of the stay more comfortable. The chalet itself has good bones and could be a great place with better upkeep--thorough cleaning, fresher linens, updated mattresses, and a little extra care inside and out. As it stands, though, it doesn't live up to its price point. I'd be hesitant to recommend this spot without those updates and at this point would suggest checking out other options in Ocean Shores first.

I went to ask for another tiny bar of soap since we used ours up, but they were out. They were also out of shampoo, so we had to use the shower gel for everything. The shower curtain is hung so that it barely touches the top of the tub, so water runs all over the floor when you shower. You can tell this has been an ongoing problem because the door jam is completely rusted. When I went to ask for more towels do soak up all the water on the floor, there were two other guests complaining about the same issue in their rooms. Seems like that would be an easy enough fix that could save some major repairs later..... The cherry on top was finding someone's vape pen in my bed.!!!! Hoping it belonged to the housekeeper who changed my sheets?! It was between the comforter & the duvet so that's what I'm telling myself..... that was a first for me.

First time staying at an Inn/AirBNB type place. At first, it felt strange to let ourselves into this big beautiful house and to be the only ones there. But the better half grew up going to Inns and Bed and Breakfast type places and she was all in. NICE. That is the main word I would use to sum up The Collins. Especially with how well they took care of us for our anniversary. Every little detail was thought out and taken care of. The lady who was working there while we were there could not have been better. Super nice and attentive. WE LOVED THE COLLINS. I have been going to Ocean Shores my entire life but always stayed on the main hotel strip. The Collins is on the backside of Ocean Shores and very secluded from the tourist-y parts of the town. The house is gorgeous. A huge house with so many different things in it to do right across the street from the beach. The Collins has that beautiful, awesome Ocean Shores beach aesthetic while also being a very upscale, beautiful inn. My favorite thing about The Collins [aside from the hot tub] is just how well thought out everything is. From the all day snacks and breakfast. To every little touch they add. The people who created and run The Collins are obviously big fans of this type of Inn and really worked hard to create their ultimate image of it. And you can feel that in every little detail of The Collins experience. We also liked the french toast, Starbucks egg bites and all of the things they give you for breakfast here. The pastries were my favorite but we liked everything. We were also incredibly impressed at our room fridge having some nice juice and snacky type options. The better half and I loved this experience. We had such a nice time here. The hot tub, the wine, the chocolates, the kick ass shower, the nice breakfast and snacks. If you're looking for a great experience with your special person, it's hard to think of a better option than The Collins. I've stayed in pretty much every hotel in Ocean Shores and The Collins is definitely at the top of the list if you want a nice, beautiful, relaxing, memorable experience for you and your special person.

Huge kitchen and comfy living room. Happy they had AC when it was warm! Pet friendly, toddler friendly - but no bath tub in the cabin. We happily cooked dinner and breakfast here and the Inn has snacks/drinks to buy as well with an honor system. Walking distance from Damon Point to hunt for agates, and a short drive from town. Thanks for the stay!
