Phil was the assigned instructor and skipper of the boat. Right from the outset, I knew I was going to have fun because Phil explained he likes to be on the dock on a boat teaching us rather than a classroom. I'm a very visual person, and that tactic really helped me gain the fundamental concepts quickly. We spent most of the 2 days on the Puget Sound, enjoying the weather, learning to tack and jibe, tiller control, docking, and especially for me, patience and a keen sense of observation. I enjoyed my time on the boat with Phil and the other students. Phil's a great teacher. I had some difficulties with certain concepts and he navigated (pun intended!) those murky waters effectively for me. The front office is very helpful, and the people are friendly. I strongly recommend Seattle Sailing and I am looking forward to completing ASA103/104 soon.

He was confident and relaxed on the boat, and he always gave us plenty of room to try things on our own and really learn how to handle the boat. His experience and genuine enthusiasm made me even more curious about sailing, and I left every class feeling excited to keep going. Can't wait to take AS103 with Phil again very soon.

I have to say, the whole process was quick, easy and we were out on the water within just a couple days. To say this is a dream come true would be an understatement. The dry stack app makes getting the boat in and out of the water super easy and convenient. And now we're part of the Waypoint family, at least that's what it feels like; everyone working at Waypoint is just so nice, helpful and generous. We had the impeller replaced for the salt water cooling system and they made it happen quick, easy and very affordable. Thank you Waypoint!! For being a great full service boat company! You guys rock! Thank you Brenda and Buck (the owners) Gary, Jake, Adam and Art, Katie May, Ray, Troy and all the rest of the Waypoint team. You run a tight ship and I'm telling all my friend to come see you for all their boating needs. If I could give you six stars, I would. We appreciate you!

I brought in my 2012 9.8hp Tohatsu to get a quote on fixing a minor lower unit leak. The staff were polite and got back to me quickly. The repair quote came back at $780.90, which is actually more than the price of a brand-new lower unit ($687.99). When I declined the repair, I was then billed $346.02 just to prepare the quote. After I pointed out that an environmental fee shouldn't apply to a quote, the bill was reduced to $259.79. I was never verbally told there would be a minimum diagnostic charge to produce the quote. The shop labor rate is $235/hour, which is fine if that's their pricing structure -- but it would have been helpful to know that before dropping off a small portable outboard. I don't blame the technician, and I'm sure this shop does good work. But for small outboards this pricing structure doesn't really make sense, and the lack of clear communication upfront created a bad experience. If the shop had simply said on the phone or at drop-off that there is a 1-hour minimum diagnostic charge ($235+) to produce a quote, I could have made an informed decision and avoided the situation. If you have a small portable outboard, I recommend getting clear pricing over the phone.
