This is not the tony upmarket beer spot. This is the spot where you can hang out and be goofy and drink great beer. It's a bit of a neighborhood hang maybe even more than it is a craft beer mecca, though all the pieces are here to make it fully solid as a craft beer spot. It's just that the vibe of regulars trumps the beer nerd vibe. It's great that beer bars are now starting to morph into other places rather than all trying to project that same tight focus on only the beer--since bars always develop their own personality over time, anyway. It's on LCW, which means parking is a bit of a hassle, but it also means there are quite a few decent places to eat around here lately. That combines well with a night of drinking. There's even a great big brewery across the street that's pulling in bumper crops of hungry local families. TBA seems to pick up everybody who's not clamoring for the family vibe across the way. There's a patio outside where you can sit and relax, and there are plenty of booths and stools inside. There are coolers, and there's a great tap lineup with about a dozen faucets, maybe more. The staff hustles and bustles, and they have a lot going on besides just the beer. There's trivia, foosball, all kinds of stuff happening that not too many other beer bars offer, but feels very familiar in a neighborhood corner spot. It's a great hybrid. read more

I like this place. I have reviewed it before but apparently they changed locations. They have around 15 beers on tap from different micro-breweries in the area as well as far away. They have a HUGE selection of bottled beers from anywhere you could think of. My friend got a Groupon here for $25 to spend $50 for 4 people. That wasn't too hard to accomplish... especially on my Birthday! Now that I think of it I should have asked for a free B-day beer! ;) Great hang out spot. Wanting to go out for a beer with friends, we stopped by the Beer Authority. The beer selection was excellent both in bottles you could purchase and bring home and what was on draft that you could sit and drink at the location. Not fancy, but a great vibe and super nice people. They do not have food at their location, but you can bring food in from places close by. I have loved my visits to the beer authority! They have an awesome tap-list and huge selection of to-go bottles. They're also dog-friendly, usually have a good game on and the staff is very knowledgeable about beer. In the past, I've ordered food on Uber eats and had some fun, casual date nights here. I always leave with more beer than I need but, that's a great problem to have. If you ever meet Burc, you've lucked out. He's an awesome, very friendly guy and he knows a ton about the beer he sells and the beer industry as a whole. read more

Old Skool Rude Awakening $7. 420 IPA $6/11%, why wouldnt I? They have hundreds of beers but most are bottles and maybe 10 on tap. Free games, Foosball, Xbox, Cards, Battleship and other board games. This place is nasty gross - bar tender was sitting at the bar with customers - was hard to who to order from. Gross dirty fabric on chairs made us worry our jeans would be dirty after sitting. It smelled terrible like stale cigarette smoke - they clearly allow employees to smoke inside after hours or it wouldn't have smelled so bad - beers were overpriced for the atmosphere - go across the street to Hellbent for a great experience! read more

This place has a very nice vibe to it. The owner is friendly and takes care of his regulars. I get kegs from this place for my annual party and there's usually a good base to choose from. That said, the last time I called in advance to order a specific keg and when I showed up to get it, it hadn't been ordered. I ended up with a warm keg of something else. It all worked out. I had time to cool it down, but I can see this being an issue in other situations. That's the only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars. That, and the parking situation is terrible. Excellent selection of beers on tap, changes daily. They always have at least one cider on tap, and anything in the cold cases you can purchase and drink there was well for a nominal pour fee. No food is served but you are welcome to bring food in. Lots of seating at the bar and tables, and they have a pool table as well. There is also a small patio seating area. Dogs are welcome. This is my favorite spot to come try a new beer and hang out to chat, or watch some football. read more

Excellent rotating selection of beer both on tap and bottles, and extremely friendly and knowledgable staff. The new location is much nicer and has tons of seating now. They have 13 taps, usually with one sour and one cider, and most don't last more than a few days so its always worth a trip every few days to see what's new. They serve a few different wines too for those people who really aren't into beer. Lots of fun events each month, from Djs and retro board game nights, to cribbage tournaments. I'm not at all into sports bars, and while they do have 5 TVs on showing various sporting events usually, it doesn't have that jock crowd feel at all. Every once in awhile they'll show some great (or hilariously bad) movies too. If you don't feel like sitting inside, they have a small outdoor patio as well, perfect for enjoying a beer while getting some sun in the summer. Dog friendly as well, just keep your pooch on leash and make sure they get along with other dogs first. Only minor criticism is that I wish bottle prices were a little more current in the coolers, but with how often they get in new beers I realize how difficult that might be, Can't say enough good things about this place otherwise. read more

I have been going to the Beer Authority since Barry first opened it a few years ago, before they had taps (they were just a bottle shop at the time), and made a point to go to the weekly tastings Barry would hold. Burc bought it a couple of years later (Burc was a semi-regular at the place before, being the Oscar Blues rep), and did a major upgrade to the place shortly after. The new space (well, it's not so new now) was really needed (the old was far too cramped and oddly shaped) and it's a really nice place to hang out. The bar staff are always helpful, and having 400 some beers to chose from, to crack there or take home, along with a usually strong selection of a dozen taps, makes this my favorite neighborhood haunt. read more

I love this bar! The guy who works here is always so sweet and helpful. He knows me and my boyfriend personally now because we live in the apartment complex connected to it. The beer is kind of pricey sometimes but they have a huge variety of different beers and tastes. He always gives you samples as well! The games such as shuffleboard, and board games are super fun too! They do always play sports on the TVs, which I don't exactly find interesting but it's a sporty bar so I don't expect anything different. Definitely go here! Super cute place. read more

So much great beer here! They not only have so many rare and quality bottles - but one of the best draft lists I've seen. They even had Uncle Jacobs Stout on draft! If you don't find something on tap that you want you can always buy a beer and drink it there ($2 corking fee if the bottle is under $6.) This place reminds me a Chuck's and the Pourhouse. Great selection of beers both on tap and from the coolers, many of which you can't find anywhere around here! We decided to pay this place a visit after snagging a groupon one night. The lady working the bar the night was friendly at first but the service quickly deteriorated once she found out we had a groupon. She passed us off to the other bartender because "we were new to the program". Her attitude was EXTREMELY off putting. Luckily the guy working the bar was extremely kind and helpful thus saving our trip. No food which is kind of a bummer but they allow you to bring in outside food. read more

The Beer Authority is a great little hole in the wall that you could completely miss unless you happen to be walking down Lake City Way. This place has refrigerators that line one side of the bar, packed with a wide selection of beers as well as beers on tap -- great for beer connoisseurs looking to taste something new. The best thing about Beer Authority is that they allow dogs and love having them there! There are games and plenty of space. There's a TON of beer here which is pretty awesome! I don't think there's a selection of food really here, however I think I heard that they do let you bring in food (I may be wrong). There are some games you can play while you're here too which I thought was a fun plus. When we went it wasn't very busy, but I liked how laid back it seemed.
