I absolutely love golf, and from the reviews I saw I was not getting my hopes up until I got there...This place is amazing! But I do agree with some of the reviews that the course is not in great condition. I would not recommend using the chipping green, the green is not a green, it's just long grass. One annoying thing about this course was that you can only ride the carts on the cart path only, but I guess I understand that. A fun thing was there was lots of deer just walking around the course. And the people working there were super kind and helpful. The club house is really big and super cool looking inside and they even have a huge event center. Even though the course is quite difficult, I really quite enjoyed it. And if you're looking for a golf course to play, I would highly recommend Shining Mountain Golf Course! read more

Sympathetic to getting a golf course out of Rocky Mountain winter - especially at more than 8,000 feet. Nevertheless, the condition of the course (tees and greens in particular) was amongst the worst I've seen. Bare, spray painted ground was everywhere and the greens were laughably unputtable. That they charged $70 for that, with "100% cart-path only - no exceptions" on top of it, with a straight face seemed pretty audacious to me. Add that to the abysmal driving range and practice areas, and the ridiculously unplayable demands on the back nine (environmentally-sensitive grasslands throughout with at least 4 fairways that were less than 15 paces across - I walked them off), and it will be hard to convince me to return. read more

To be completely fair, I don't golf. But I did come and ride along with my husband and his bestie who also had his wife for a birthday celebration. The course was soooo beautiful! The boys really seemed to love the course as well. I think they've already golfed it since. Or maybe they told their friends and they golfed it the next day. Idk, one of the two. The course is cart path only which I guess is a big deal? But really, when it's beautiful outside, that wasn't a big deal at all to them. Can 100% say I know they are heading back and I'd be more than happy to ride along when they do. read more

Don't play here, not for $85. I can't say enough how disappointed I am with my golf experience on Fathers Day. I have played here for years and the condition of the course was horrible. Its middle of June so I don't buy the argument that it hasn't recovered from Winter. Greens were un-puttable, t-boxes barely mowed and some potted with gopher holes, fairways filled with gopher holes. In 18 holes only saw the beverage cart once. All of this for $85 damn dollars. I won't golf here again. No wonder the t-times were wide open. I missed the memo. read more

This course has beautiful scenery! Surrounded by Mountain views and pretty houses. We've played many places over the years-- fancy and casual. This course is definitely more relaxed and a great deal if looking for a few rounds and don't want to spend a ton of $$$. It was $45/ person for 18 holes. The course itself was not terribly difficult, but there was some narrow fairways that made it challenging at times. Our only complaint was cart paths were pretty rough in places due to washed out gravel. The service and other patrons were WONDERFUL! Our group of 4 agreed that everyone we came into contact with was SUPER friendly:) , overall the friendliest place we've ever played away from home. We had a great day! Thank you!! read more

Staff was friendly and helpful. The course felt laid back. My buddies and I aren't very good golfers and did struggle a bit at this course with the skinny fairways and not being able to see the pin easily. Everyone on the course we ran into was polite. Some of the greens are in rough shape but overall a pretty nice course with Mountain View's. The course is cart path only but the cart path sticks close to the fairways so wasn't a big deal for us. Only thing I could complain about is maybe having a better course map, never playing there before it was very difficult to see where the pin was and where we were playing. With that being said we would definitely come back if we are in the area. read more

Was worried about conditions for this course. However, I will say this course is in excellent shape. One of the nicer conditioned courses (fairways and greens). I have played. There are a couple greens that need some work but overall in great shape. Staff is extremely friendly. Negatives- cart path only, plus cart paths do not run right next to course. There is rough that is basically weeds that you have to continually walk through. Course is extremely tight. Good long drives end up missing balls. Greens on smaller side. You aren't rewarded for good shots. You could be in rough or water. You hit long, left or right of green , goodbye. Never find your ball. Marshall came up to us and told us this course will teach you to be straight. One time good for me. Twosome first off played in 3hrs 15 minutes. Could have broke 3 hrs if it wasn't for cart golf. The golf course is absolute trash, it's golf cart path only but it will feel like you need a UTV or ATV to navigate the course. the course itself is confusing to navigate, not enough signs to help you along. it's frustrating to say the least, the GM needs to get off his ass and do his job. I'd recommend to take the extra 30 minutes into the springs to golf, DO NOT GOLF HERE. read more

Craig, the bartender ignored my wife and I for over ten minutes at a bar with one other patron, middle of the day on a Monday. He spent the remainder of the time at the clubhouse stumbling through service. Greens are shredded and staff is in knowledgeable about golf and service in general. Do not recommend. read more

Price to play = Still decent; paid $64 (mid June)... thru GolfNOW, $66.50. Call Pro Shop now direct for possible free drink and $64 rate... Course = Phenomenal; look people, this isn't the Broadmoor... it's not a $200-odd guest fee type course with totally manicured fringes, greens and tee boxes so if that is what you require, play the Broadmoor and drop that $200 fee or whatever. This is mountain-golf at it's best; tough course, placement golf, big risk/reward, rugged, basic yardage markings, but a great full hole-by-hole guide available, natural areas left and right so try to hit bombs and lose a lot of balls or play shots for placement and score better... I don't rate courses on how bad I am or how bad I played... Incredible views, great practice areas to prepare yourself for what's coming... deep breaths, have fun, take pictures and enjoy it! read more

Played the back 9 this afternoon (LONG!). The course is in decent shape, but the cart pathes are HORRIBLE. Thought we might tip over some of them are so bad. Also, we had to keep our carts on the cart path for EVERY SINGLE hole and ended up making the group behind us mad because of it (we're not pros). Some of the pathes are quite a distance from the opposite side of the course. Went inside for a beer afterwards and none of the (young) workers were wearing masks. Not the young man who collected my greens fee, not those who were "sanitizing" the carts or anyone else that I saw. I asked the bartender if she shouldn't be wearing a mask & she said something about "respiratory issues." I guess they only hire people with "respiratory issues." I noticed one of the other maskless course workers (she at least had one, tho hers was hanging from her ears) who talked at length in the front door area with 2 guests who also weren't wearing masks. Anyone who needed to walk into the clubhouse had to walk right by these 3 (there was not 6 feet to spare for social distancing). My friends and I won't be returning anytime soon. If you have concerns about catching COVID-19, avoid this course. In fact, just skip it! read more

Beautiful, challenging , well maintained golf course with a wilderness feel. We visited this course on a trip and really enjoyed the Mountain Views and abundant wildlife. The little critters running everywhere ( prairie dogs??) were surprising and gave us a chuckle. Deer also share the course. read more

First and last time here. Had a bad taste from the lady in the pro shop from the time we called till the time we made the turn. Her attitude and continual need to throw "the owner" under the bus for EVERYTHING was unprofessional at best. Now let's talk about the supposed owner and his decisions according to her. Cart path only because we don't want to pay the course maintenance guys. Yet, every hole had some kind of project or maintenance guy on it. We were around more course maintenance than any other course we've been on all year. Several of them had zero course etiquette as well. Who cares about concentration when you have the guys standing around laughing and joking the whole time. Oh and about those cart paths. How about we make them passable. There is so much wash out, they were unsafe. Luckily I had the leg strength to keep the cart upright at one point. Lastly, how about the owner play in a 4 some and constantly get pushed and hit into from behind because your stellar pro shop (yes the same one that is throwing him under the bus) is letting singles, 2-somes and 3-somes tee off without pairing them up to maintain a consistent pace of play. The groupings and constant chaos with leap-frogging or waiting was absolutely horrible. I did get a chuckle (or icing on the cake) at the turn when the sign in the bar said "don't, can't, won't at the owners demand". Wow!! read more

Like this course to play due to the challenge. However the online booking didn't work and no one answered the phone when I called the pro shop. It went straight to voicemail 2 times in a row. So I walked in to book a time today...... And it went down hill fast after that. I have never felt so unwelcome. Yes I am from out of state but I shouldn't be disrespected for it. Walked in today to one of the individuals behind the counter saying "Why are all these damn Texans here?" I don't mind the occasional ribbing it's apart of life but this was not said in that manner. I immediately turned and walked out. Didn't know my pretense was a burden. Don't know if I'll come back or bring my buddies to this course later this summer when we do our golf trip up here. We had reservations with another couple for dinner last evening at 6:30 pm. However, when we arrived the live music was so loud it was clear we would not be able to carry on a normal conversation. It's mystifying that the manager of a restaurant with white table cloths and napkins, with the pretense of fine food would think that people would want to listen to music at that decibel level. It's fine in a bar setting that happens to sell food, but for a restaurant that purports to cater to people willing to spend upwards of $100 for dinner, if there is music it must be quiet, not amplified, and conducive a fine dining experience. Possibly the best course I've ever played. In *perfect* shape, challenging, tricky, and beautiful. Playing the course for the first time, there's many things that I wish I would've known about how it plays (how sharp the dog let cuts, when to play an iron vs driver, etc...), but they do provide a free booklet with very precise descriptions of each hole. There's just some things you can't figure out until you actually play. I hope I get to play there again someday! read more

Do not play this course!!! The course is in terrible shape!! I think all of their lawn mowers are broken! Weeds all over the fairways. Greens were not rolled. Very disappointing dinner party at the Bella Vista restaurant. I was part of a large group that went for an early dinner because it was advertised that 10% if our meals' bills would be donated to the Teller County Habitat for Humanity organization. For a group of about 12, we had one wait person. She did well, but two orders of lasagna arrived more than 30 minutes after everyone else was served and were cold! One was sent back to be heated and went missing for more than 20 minutes. Others in the dinner party said that their entrees were not as described on the menu. The manager stopped by and was quite argumentative. She did not offer to comp the delinquent and cold meal. That bill arrived for the full amount. Then a bus boy came back and said it was 12 cents short! Since the person had left, another person in the group paid that. In addition, our waitress went missing not offering to take orders for dessert or coffees. Shining Mountain Golf Club has been promoting its Bella Vista Restaurant with new and improved menus, service and entertainment. It certainly was not for our group. Quite a few of us will not be patronizing Bella Vista any more and that is a pity because Woodland Park is in real need of better dining choices. It is probably OK for a beer and a hot dog after a round of golf but not for a dinner. read more

Great course. Holes are challenging with water and well placed traps. Some tee boxes are elevated letting you hit down onto the fairways. The negatives for me were the poorly trained maintenance workers. On every occasion I have played here I have had workers drive in the fairway during my play. It is distracting to try and hit around a mowing machine. Today a worker drive over my ball and sliced it in half. Course has no rest rooms on the course and some of the porta potties were out of order. The spectacular views would be worth it if the workers would just back away!!! read more

We stopped in to play nine, the pro shop people were good, pleasent, customer service oriented. The course was nice, challenging. We were approached by a drink cart where we purchased a couple of beers. Left my card with her so we could square up after our round. We waited at the bar for over twenty minutes before we were even acknowledged, finally almost twenty minutes later we payed for the two beers. They were rude and were deeply troubled to have to stop what they were doing to accept our money. No worries you'll never get another penny of mine;) read more

Shining Mountain Disc Golf is essentially dead without carts on the Beast. What was easily one of the best courses in Colorado is now obsolete without allowing people to use golf carts for a course this large. read more

I've been here for several different events including dinner, dinner and dancing, women's club parties and luncheons and our may jongg club plays here a couple times a month. They try hard to please and generally succeed. With large groups they have a hard time serving the food hot. The food is good, the menu has some nice variety. Nicely stocked bar, attentive servers and the banquet room is quite pretty. The decorations are attractive and the views outside the windows is Colorado beautiful! Great parking. Their restaurant is La Bella Vita serving mostly Italian entree's, lunch includes salads, sandwiches. In summer when golfing is in full swing, it is a busier place and just about everything on the menu is available. Understandably, winter is a little different. read more

My friends and I came here for the first for their disc golf course and unfortunately their customer service was so appalling that we demanded our refund after the first hole. We paid just like any other visitor to their course and unfortunately they misinformed us on their policy. We have recorded video on our go-pros of their employee and his horrible customer service towards us. read more

Booked 18 holes online through their website, but their system is set up through Golf Now. When checking in, it wasn't until after we paid for 18 holes that they told us the back 9 was closed. They said we had to take it up with GolfNow but after calling GolfNow they said it was the course who took all the money so the argument is with them. After arguing that they should have told us the back 9 was closed BEFORE charging us the full amount, they gave us two sleeves of balls. As for the course, we played in early May but the grass was basically dead and there was sand all over the greens making them impossible to read. Nice views and all but I've certainly played nicer courses that didn't try to rip me off for 18 holes when they only had 9 open. read more

Update - we did go back and give them another try, since we so love the view. The food was a big improvement from our first experience, but needs seasoning. The service was great though and they are working hard. read more
