Wendell listens to your needs and customizes the massage in accordance to the tension in your body. It's great to have someone that listens to what you want, but they should also be able to feel the tension in your body and know where to focus, which he was great at. Sarah didn't even tell me her name when I walked in so I went the entire time not even knowing her name. I didn't care enough to sign into my account to see or to ask.. I was in pain and just wanted some relief. I had to tell her multiple times to focus on my back but instead she chose to go over my arms and legs twice... The deep tissue massage felt more like a swedish and I left still in pain :(. She is good if you're looking for a basic swedish massage, but not if you're in pain and need any sort of specialized massage. I can't say I didn't leave her feeling more relaxed. The online scheduling process was extremely user friendly, and immediately sent an email confirmation with the details of my deep tissue massage appointment... I've been working heavily lately, so I knew I was in severe need of self care, my only hope was that Kim could help ease my physical discomfort. I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment, the door was unlocked, and upon entry I noticed the cleanliness of the yoga studio, and the organization of the many products offered. Consider me a convert!…read more After a stressful few weeks I found myself on the prowl for a great massage. Being a little naive on the subject, (I was a massage virgin) I thought I'd do some research on Yelp. After seeing a few posts in the events section about stress control and meditation classes, I looked up the Ascension Wellness Center. Not only do they offer treatments of various kinds for both mind and body, they offer exactly what I was looking for... massages! Des Moines isn't exactly a hop skip and a jump from Seattle so I had to be convinced this place was great. After speaking with Jason, (who posted the events I'd seen) I was sold. And by 'sold' I mean I got naked in front of a stranger, sold! My appointment was with a lovely woman named Sonia. Before the actual massage we sat together and filled out the necessary paperwork. I discussed problem areas and she helped work out a customized massage plan for me. I sincerely felt like she listened to what I needed and wanted from the experience. I'd heard stories about how massages can hurt, how it can be a little awkward to be naked, etc. This was totally not so with Sonia. I felt I was in good hands. Literally! In addition to pampering myself with a massage I also tried a cleanse called Aqua Detox. Initially I feared that I'd signed myself up for a colonic. (See my Tummy Temple review!) It's essentially a foot soak where toxins are released through the pores in your feet. It was seriously crazy. I've never seen anything like it but the procedure itself was fascinating. So if you're looking for a spot to get your back rubbed and your nails and hair done - skip out on Ascension. If you're looking for a place where your health is at the center of attention, I'd recommend giving this place a shot. The people who work there are personable and attentive, the spa itself is clean and inviting and it's still a small enough operation where you feel like you're their only priority. Her technique causes as little pain as possible, after all no wax is comfortable, and her attention to detail is why I keep coming back. I have also gotten many massages from her over the years, and I will forever swear by them; they are truly magical. I like to treat myself so I have gotten massages at many boutiques. When I first came to Bridget for a massage, I was satisfied in the beginning because all I wanted was relaxation, and hers were the most relaxing I had experienced (even before she added hot stone massages, which are my favorite, she had me hooked on hers over other people's hot stone. But now she offers the service as well and it's amazing!!). Since I started, I have been in a car accident that greatly hurt my back and am currently pregnant. I've been to multiple massage therapist that we're referrals from my doctor for the accident and no one helped (and a few hurt), Bridget has been the only person who can actually help me get any relief from the pain and so to this day, I view her as a true gift to this world (excuse the dramatics, but if you were in as much pain as I was, you'd be practically kissing her feet for any relief you could get too). As I said, I am pregnant and that along with my accident injuries has not been a walk in the park, but any chance I get to get into see Bridget for a massage is always such a great experience. Massages are a scary thing when you're pregnant and there's specific things that a massage therapist needs to know to protect the baby. Bridget massaged me my 2nd and 3rd trimesters and I trust her with my body and my baby fully, she's aware of the safe places and adjusted her pressure for my new sensitivity levels and I will forever be loyal to Bridget. Try her out and I assure you, you will be too. I don't put my name on much, but when I find someone/thing that works, I feel it is my responsibility to share. Sorry this got kind of long, but I just felt I needed to give a full picture of Bridget's capabilities since she has been there for me in a much greater way than you'd think a wax or a massage could be.
