This Long Beach Island brewery gets five stars by default, as there is no competition for miles. First off the Food - they don't serve food but it's a BYOF (bring your own food)! So that solves that issue. There's also the unassuming stairway to the brewery, which is a lot easier walking up. Anyways, we came for the beer, available on tap & in convenient to go cans. I chose the Hop & Hazy IPA - a New England / Hazy 6% which I downed so quickly my taste buds demanded an encore. Quickly. There was an acoustic band with a sax player who charmed the crowd with classic rock standards. The wait and bar staff are very attentive and the brewery is small enough to make it feel intimate. So yeah, you should try it. C'mon down, there's plenty of parking and plenty of beer to go round. read more

Ship bottom brewery is at a great location close to the beach, shopping and other food destinations. You can see all of the brewing tanks onsite and smell the beer in process. The service at the bar was really good and they have a variety of options from tasters to pints. You can bring food in and there's alot of great options in the area. The place is pet, kid, and hangout friendly. Plenty of sports playing in the background and it looks like they have live music some nights. Great place for a hangout in LBI! Laid back, chill atmosphere and the perfect spot to cool off with a cold one during the summer. I went twice during my last LBI visit since it's convenient and a nice place to relax after a busy day at Fantasy Island :) beers were great and ice cold. Wifey and I have always liked the beers and ciders put out out by Ship Bottom Brewery so we decided to finally stop in to try something in person. As with most breweries these days, the menu included an IPA, but also some other selections...though no stouts, porters or brown ales. Server was friendly and waited as we decided what we wanted. Wifey decided on a Pear Seltzer and I decided to try the Three Hour Tour (out of respect for the Gilligan's Island reference and because I generally like wheat beer). We were both really disappointed in our selections. Wifey's seltzer was so sweet it was like a melted Italian Ice and my wheat beer was also way too sweet. In full disclosure, had I read the description of this beer I never would have ordered it as I almost never like sweet, fruity beers and this one has hints of pineapple, orange, and coconut. Neither of us finished our beers. While really bummed we hated our selections, I'd still come back again next year since I know I like many of their other selections. I stopped by here earlier today by myself. My family and I had been to the Taylor Avenue Waterfront a couple of days earlier and I had noticed Ship Bottom Brewery. So whenever we were there later in the week, I was able to stop by. The brewery itself is located on the second floor and consists of a couple of different places to place your order and then a bunch of seating. It's also being your own food and I saw a couple of tables with pizza and fries from somewhere else. You can also do a self paced tour but I didn't want to take too long and so I did not go. As I often do whenever I go to a new brewery, I ordered a flight here. At ship bottom you can choose either a 4 beer sampler or an 8 beer. Since I didn't want to get drunk, I chose the 4 beer. For my beers I chose the mermaid strawberry blonde, the hop and hazy, the shack IPA and the do not pass gose ale. My first beer was the Mermaid strawberry blonde which was light and crisp with a hint of strawberry at the finish. I imagine that it would be a great beach beer. Up second was the hop and hazy and you could really get the hops on the nose. It ended up being tasty with a nice and big juiciness to finish it off. My third beer was The Shack IPA which was smooth up front and had a light hop taste on the finish. Maybe it was the hazy IPA before it blocking some of the hoppiness on my palate but it was a lot less hoppy than expected. Last but certainly not least was the do not pass gose ale. It had a nice and flavorful start with a bit of sourness before finishing with that dryness that gose are known for. Out of the bunch, the hop and hazy was easily my favorite of the bunch although I was a big fan of the gose too. The bottom for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Stopped in for a few beers for my husband and a seltzer for me. The watermelon seltzer was sweeter than others (which I liked) but had a strange smell, although the flavor was good. My husband had Three Hour Tour and another wheat beer, we both likes both of them. The place is super casual and beachy (love!) and they had a singer/guitar player for the afternoon. There is a brief self walking tour (actually more like observation spots) of the actual brewery area. Their beer is known locally (here in PA) as well as Jersey and is available at many places which are listed on their website. Their brewery is a fun place and we will definitely go back the next time we go down to LBI. read more

This brewery is located in the heart of LBI. As far as I know, it's the only microbrewery on the island. Since we were not allowed to go inside the brewery, there were tents located in the courtyard across the way where appropriate seating and portable heaters were placed. Staff very friendly, while a guitarist serenaded us while imbibing our brews. The beers were excellent and nicely priced. read more

There's a large parking lot behind the Brewery and an outside sitting area for the Beer Garden. There wasn't any clear signs but you can only get flights inside up the stairs. They don't sell food here but with it being the beach, there are plenty of restaurants to order from to bring here. I believe dogs are allowed in the outside beer garden area. We opted for the upstairs to get a flight and you do get some nice views if the water and the beer garden. They didn't have the AC running but had fans on for a semi hot day. They do have a bathroom upstairs that is gender neutral and outside has some Porta pottys as well. To the right of where you order, you can get a clipboard to pick your own flight before you order. You can order flight of 4 or 8. We opted for the 4: Beach Patrol Hefeweizen - this is a great Hefeweizen and very flavorful. This is probably my #1 pick. I really enjoyed this beer and it definitely incorporates all the flavors in the description which is generally pretty difficult to do so. This is my #2 pick Mexican Stout - Strong coffee smell but the taste is amazing. You definitely get that hint of the spice from the peppers Imperial Pumpkin Ale - You get more of a pumpkin smell than you do the taste. I wasn't too much of a fan of this but it was still good. This is my last pick out of the 4. Mary Lee Please Don't Eat Me - Farmhouse Ale Saison - much lighter than the Hefeweizen and a soft hoppy taste but still good. This is my #3 pick. The merchandise here is really cute but it is very pricey. There is a small self guided Brewery tour you can take which goes over the Brewing process and the do have free wifi. read more

One of the staple stops on all of our trips! Great location overlooking the park and the bay. You can watch the boats and jet skis or bring your own food and catch a gorgeous sunset. The staff are super friendly and willing to answer any questions or make recommendations if you're not sure what to try. They are good with you grabbing food and bringing it in as they don't serve food there. The tables are smaller but you can sit close if you have a larger group. This place is a blast, great place to come for a fun flight of beer. The beers are all very good. You can bring your own food in and enjoy with your beer. They have a cute little gift area with cool tees, glasses, etc., albeit a tad overpriced. I would have given 5 stars but it seems like every time I taste a beer, end of loving it, try to buy some and they don't have it. I am still crying over their Baconator, so fabulous and have never seen it again for tasting or purchase. On weekends during season they often have live music which fun. Great suggestion to the owners: you guys should offer a discount to customers traveling via Uber/Lyft, like 5% off their purchase. I have been in here many times when some super hammered people (I remember when I had my 1st ), head out and jump into vehicles and leave. Yikes So today was another fun experience. Sadly they do book local talent and this room is very small. There is some bar seating, long communal tables with bench seating and a few pub height tables with chairs. So when the talent tends to be not so talented it is loud and painful. Adding new meaning to the saying 'cry in your beer'. If you consider Long Beach Island a gem among the Jersey Shore beaches, surely Ship Bottom Brewery is a gem within LBI! Always love coming here with my dog (dog friendly for very well behaved goodbois/goodgirls). It's byo food and great beer and seltzers often with great live music. The beer skews lighter like pilsners and lagers - exactly what you're looking for at the beach - but even the heavier stuff and IPA's are solid. Actually really good beer! And the staff working there are really amazing - one of my favorite places on the Island and a guarantee stop every time I'm in town. read more

The sign out front advertises a tour of the brewery. There's no real tour. It's a "self tour". There's a wall with about five signs that you read on how they make beer. You can see the beer being made but you don't get to walk back there. That's it. There's a big room with beers on tap with a large seating area with TVs. The view across the open square and overlooking the bay was pretty. We tried two of the beers and they were ok. They were about $8 each. The bartender was nice. We were asked to tip a minimum of 20% and on up. That seems to be the norm now. It's ridiculous. I tipped a decent amount for the work she did, which was pour two beers, then push them across the bar to us. We cleared our own glasses and took them back up to the bar so she didn't even have to do that. The owner(s) there said hi as we were leaving. Other than that, they weren't friendly and didn't talk to us, even though we were the only customers there. Nothing at this brewer stood out as being different than any other brewery I've been to. It was just, "Meh." for me. I won't be back. read more

I have tried their selections in the past but since I was in the area why not try a freshly canned brew in their fun outdoor beer garden!? Nothing tastes better than a freshly made beer straight from the source. So there are a couple of options here: wait to be seated at their beer garden or order one from their takeout area and bring back. So we did both. We didn't have much time so after one quick brew (you cannot go wrong with any selection) in the bg, we walked across and ordered a couple of growlers to go - they don't offer single cans to make a variety pack so this was the best option (basically a growler is 2 pints). Delicious! Poor staff who have to run up and down stairs to grab the beers (we waited a bit for them to freshly can our selection which we didn't mind). Worth the stop - Enjoy! read more

On a rainy day, we stumbled upon this place & boy am I glad that we did!! They advertise a brewery tour but in reality - you do the tour yourself. We then got a flight of beers - 4 to a flight - your choice. Ensure you scope out where you are going to sit as the seats filled up VERY FAST! The beer was very enjoyable - trust me - I am a wino so beer is normally not what I drink! I truly enjoyed the lager & the Shack IPA the best - so much that I then got a pint of it after the flight. Really nice brewery. The tasting room/bar area isn't really big, but not bad. They some nice tables and it looks out at the park and the bay beyond that. The menu was nice. They have a bunch of different styles, which is good since so many places rely on godawful IPAs. They have a Czech Pilsner that is as good as anything I've ever had. We had a couple drinks here. Of course NJ's archaic alcohol laws don't let them serve food, but you can bring in. Fun place to drink and chat. read more

Always enjoy Ship Bottom beer but had never been to the brewery until recently. They have a nice set-up and we enjoyed the live music. My husband loved the Shack IPA and the Hefeweizen - he took 4-packs of each home with us. I do wish they had some sort of outdoor seating or way to open the windows, as the location is beautiful and it would be so nice to enjoy the breeze. Love this brewery, so naturally I had to visit while on vacation on the island this weekend for some great beers straight from the source. They have a great atmosphere with a nice tasting room and amazing views. The place was packed wall-to-wall with no available sitting or standing space, so I had to opt for takeaway. We frequented this place many times until this week's visit in August. The outside beer garden across the street is now gone. It was on city property, so it had to be taken down. Too bad, it was fun sitting out there. Upstairs, they still serve great beers but there didn't seem to be much, if any, AC, making it a warm, muggy experience. What AC there was, probably went down the steps out the open doors. Go figure, it was 94 deg that day. The somewhat dirty windows don't open, so there is no breeze either. A single fan sat in the corner, not used. Our gang hoped to stay awhile for a few beers, now $9/pint, but we had one round and left. Keep the AC in the tasting room somehow, lower the price, and wash the windows please. We will try again in the future. read more

This is a cute little brewery on LBI with some great views and really friendly folks. While the beer was good, it wasn't quite "ok, let's take home a growler" good, and we might not make the trek out to LBI just to visit for the beer. We loved the space, loved the people there, and love the plans to expand. If we were to vacation on LBI we would be back often for some beach beer! Spent our whole weekend getaway looking forward to visiting this brewery. We visit every year and have loved it. This year we were refused service in the "beer garden" due to having a stroller occupied by 1 sleeping child at 4:45 on a Sunday. I was told they were "so crowded" they were no longer letting children in.... yet a quick survey of the "beer garden" determined there were more than 4 open tables with ample room for a stroller. Imagine the repercussions in this day and age if we weren't a straight white Christian family. Think twice Ship Bottom Brewery and have your bimbo millennial staff educated on who might actually spend money in your establishment. A yearly tradition down the tubes. Good work read more
