I'm never one to leave a bad review but I'm doing so in hopes it helps even just 1 individual considering this therapist. I only saw Dr. Shiphra Bakhchi for a few months before realizing how horrible of a therapist she is. It's very concerning that someone so self-motivated could be in a profession built on empathy and trust. For someone who is paid to listen and support, her lack of focus and basic courtesy is unsettling. She was frequently late- once by 15 minutes, and I watched her walk another client out before beginning my appointment. Despite starting late, she never once offered to make up the time. During our virtual sessions, she was visibly distracted, often reading something else on her screen and barely acknowledging what I said. There were long, uncomfortable silences where she didn't seem to realize I had finished speaking, walking around her house, getting ready to leave, etc. I'm a master's-educated woman who knows insincere when I see it. It's hard to comprehend how a therapist can take people's money while giving so little in return- making patients feel like their deepest, most personal struggles don't matter or even deserve to be heard. She made me feel dismissed, unimportant, and even foolish for trying to seek help. As a young adult with family and childhood trauma, I took a vulnerable step in starting therapy again after 10 years, believing it would be a positive investment in myself. Instead, this experience made the idea of seeking help feel discouraging and unsafe. Therapists should never make their clients feel unheard or insignificant, yet Dr. Bakhchi's conduct did exactly that. read more

STAY FAR AWAY AND SAVE YOURSELF!!!!!! Let me preface this with the fact that I have been in therapy off and on for a decade and have moved around a lot both domestically and internationally, so I've seen a lot of different mental health professionals over the years. I have NEVER left a review for a medical professional of any sort before, but I am telling you, do not use this woman. There are so many other therapists in this city who are also doctors. Don't do it to yourself. Dr. Bakhchi was often late to our appointments and was either walking out a client or had a fresh iced coffee in her hand when she came to greet me. I understand that sessions can run long and providers can get behind, but this was every single time. I only saw her for maybe 6 weeks before realizing my mental health was actually better without seeing her. During the sessions, she would seem distracted, often texting or scrolling on her phone. One time, she asked me a question that had crucial facts wrong in the story I had just told her, and that's when I realized that my suspicions of her truly not listening to me were true. Another time, she legitimately asked me, "How do you want me to help with that?" in reference to opening up about not knowing how to handle my emotions in a situation. Like, I don't know?? That's why I'm paying you to help me figure it out??? The last straw was when I lost my job, so my insurance situation was uncertain. I told her that I wanted to try to find a plan with the same company so that I could still see her, but the moment she thought there may be even a chance that she wouldn't be able to get money out of me long-term, she stopped caring. My last session with her was 15 minutes, but I was still charged the full price. It was so short because she was 15 minutes late, but she cut off my appointment 15 minutes early. This was not a situation where there was nothing to talk about. I was actively trying to fight back tears while talking about a situation when she quickly wrapped up the session and told me to keep her updated on the insurance situation. The LAST thing that this woman did that truly makes me want to report her to the medical board is that she charged me a $200 late fee AND the copay for an appointment that I attended. When I tried to get in contact with her about this, she avoided the question and only paid me back after I continued to press her. She ended up giving me the money through Venmo which I thought was weird, but I was so exhausted with arguing with her and her feined confusion that I didn't care as long as I had the money back. I'm actually realizing now that I think she still owes me $60 from charging me copays on days I didn't see her, but I guess that's just a wash now (and I guess she was able to collect the money from my insurance company which feels wrong but whatever). DO NOT SEE THIS WOMAN. Save yourself. I genuinely don't know how she has any good reviews here. She gives major high school mean girl vibes, and that's really not what I'm looking for in someone who is supposed to help me with my mental health, not harm it. read more

I really like this practice because they accept every type of insurance. I also like that they offer a free consultation to see if you want to work with them. Overall, very easy to schedule, it works with my non traditional schedule because Dr. Bakhchi can see you outside of traditional work hours, including the weekends. read more

Dr.Bakhchi is proactive in her approach and also is a good listener. I noticed she creates time out of sessions to give consultation, which is free of charge. She also takes early appointments which work well for people like me who may have busy schedules. read more

I have had Dr. Bakhchi for a little over a year now and I would recommend this wonderful lady to anyone looking for a new therapist. I found her after my other therapist left the organization I was going through. I don't know how other people feel about losing their current therapist and trying to not only find a new one but to open up to a new one. I cannot recommend Dr. Bakhchi. My long-term therapist recently passed away and I was having a mental health crisis and needed a new, regular therapist. During our first session (tele-visit/scheduled for 45 minutes) she had me on hold to take other calls, she was disengaged and distracted (driving) and interjected generic words of agreement like "wow" and "really?" to appear engaged, and while I was speaking, she used her computer to verify my insurance (she did not even put me on hold for that one.) My insurance covers her costs and would have on an ongoing basis. In taking my history, she was oddly judgmental and reprimanded me for doing something I shared with her that I had done more than ten years prior. Ultimately, I was having a crisis when she and I spoke and she did not even ask the normal questions any medical practitioner would ask about suicidal ideation, etc. Of a 45-minute session, I would say she spent about 20 minutes with me, during which time she appeared to be sizing me up as a paying customer. She offered no comfort, help, advice or insight into her approach and practice. She promised she would get back to me to get me on her schedule...and I never heard from her again. In my opinion, Dr. Bakhchi is a disaster and would probably make a patient worse, as opposed to help them get better. read more

It's taken me years to write this review and I imagine elements of her practice have changed, but my experience with her was incredibly unprofessional. She would have patients wait for her in the lobby of the building where she lived and would show up 15-20 min late every time, while also ending the sessions early--my sense was that she was double or triple booking the therapy hour. She would then see patients either in the common area of her apartment building, which was not private and was routinely interrupted by other residents looking to use the pool table or library in these common rooms, or if those rooms were truly too full or loud, she'd just bring you into her apartment, where her baby was crawling around! Truly zero boundaries or ethics. She also charged me a lot of money and said she'd file the claims and I'd get reimbursed, but I never was. When I started pressing on this she offered me free sessions instead, but not enough to make up for what I was owed in copay. I was really young and vulnerable and saw her as an authority so I put up with a lot that I was uncomfortable about before fading out, but I now wish I'd reported her--she shouldn't be allowed to practice. Absolutely awful. She charged me for a therapy session that we did not even have nor did I hire her at all. I initially called just to ask about her services. I thought it was really strange she kept telling me to Venmo her $50 before we even had any discussion of the actual session, as well as the fact that she wanted it through a system like Venmo with no statement or breakdown of the costs. She told me she would "call my insurance to confirm how much I should pay her, but to just send her $50 right now." The whole conversation felt very unprofessional and odd, and it only gets worse from here. Obviously I would not just send someone $50 for a service I have yet to receive, nor do I trust her. She called me back a few hours later, so I thought she came back with my insurance costs as she said she would. She said no, she didn't actually call them, but pressed me again to send her money in advance of any services. I refused to without a receipt, and she seemed shocked I would ever want such a thing to keep track of my medical expenses. After that back and forth (mind you, this is midday on a weekday while I am at work) and being so depleted and having such a bad taste in my mouth that the only 3-minute calls I've had with her were about money and not even anything that would actually be helping me, she sounded rushed proceeded to tell me for us that we can start our therapy session now. What? I didn't even have the time for it, nor did I make that appointment and plan for that. Also, why would I want to have a session through speaking through the phone? My ideal environment would at least be a video call. I told her I was uncomfortable with proceeding with a session and she said okay and to call her back and let her know. I was never going to acquire her services after that, she didn't even bother to try to understand how she could help me. AND YET, it gets even worse. A few days later, I happened to be on my insurance portal, and I see a $200 BILL to be paid by Dr. Bakchi charging me for a session we did not even have! I am livid at this point, and called her to confront her about charging me and filing a claim using my insurance information. She plays absolutely dumb, and says "wow are you sure?" Then makes up excuses on how that could have happened and finally says that she'll call them tomorrow because they're probably "closed right now" to make that change and remove the charge for me. What a surprise, she didn't void the transaction. I didn't bother calling her again, and just called my insurance company to follow up with her. No cancellation from her yet. Do not call or give Dr. Bakchi ANY information, because she will try to get away with milking you out of as much money as she can. I'm really sick to my stomach and wasted so much time dealing with this amidst my busy schedule. I was the biggest believer in her despite all the glaringly negative reviews, because her credentials and education looked promising, and I'm even a fellow alumna of the schools she went to, but she tried to scam me nonetheless. I couldn't even imagine how uncomfortable an actual therapy session with her would be. read more

Very nice therapist and awesome practice. Dr. Bakhchi met with me on my first session and then she connected me with a clinician that she felt was a good choice for me. Both Dr. Bakhchi and the therapist I was paired with, validated a lot of my struggles. She worked with me to resolve my family issues and stress with work. The clinician she paired me with helped me update my resume, apply for jobs, coached me in the process. Thanks to her, I got my dream job. LIVID. I was skeptical of other bad reviews, but they were 100% right. Shiphra Bakhchi is HORRIBLE, uncaring, unprofessional, and for me felt downright psychologically unsafe. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work, and have met various other therapists in different capacities. I offer humbly that I know what I'm talking about. She started late, was still trying to end on time TWICE (I had to rly assert myself, both times). She also LIED twice by saying it's supposed to be a 45 min session when platform (Headway) shows they are supposed to be 60 min. Clearly this is usual practice for her because Zoom was ending early and this was somehow justification to ask to end early *again* (when I reminded her of agreement she said she'd have to send me a new link like it's some whole ordeal). She was constantly looking at her phone throughout the session ("Dr., are you with me?" "yeah I'm listening." then went right on). And yes, definitely money hungry given how she responded to another therapy program that my partner's insurance affords. Most importantly she just DID NOT CARE to show ANY emotional presence for me, or to make me feel safe by baring my mind. It was like a bad and cheap interview --Q after Q with scarcely any response. She said we're spending 1st session just getting to know me --and I agreed and thought reasonable. But she did absolutely NOTHING to assert, acknowledge, show presence and understanding of the many, many things I've told her. And I spoke precisely, concisely, clearly, and with sensitivity --there should have been no reason to be disinterested by normal standards. She only said one thing in response, "ugh, that sucks!" in response to what is for me a relatively light incident (left a job b/c exploited; stolen credit for all my work). I'd otherwise shared harmful and traumatic effects of colonialism, white supremacy, gender norms, xenophobia, and she didn't bat an eye. She did smile at some of the more "charming"/funny things I shared. In hindsight I also realize she did little to hide her disinterest at times (I'd offer extra info in my answer to her questions, but not only would she seem *annoyed.* It would prove to be useless as she'd ask for the info I offered up again). I intentionally pointed out about feeling too invalidated to even assert my traumas. I got nothing from her. I later intentionally brought that up again, asking if she had anything to say about it. She said today it's just about getting to know me, so literally nothing. She could have said ONCE in the entire session some simple, "you've experienced a lot," anything to show empathy--but nothing. It took me SO MUCH to just share what I did and she didn't even land the plane with me. She treated me like I'm just another social equal (given my looks and education level, I can see what biases she was exhibiting to have about me) instead of a PAYING client who is taking action for her traumas. She was very transactional, and I daresay lacking self-awareness of her privileges given 0 assertions/affirmations of my experiences as a minority. At the end she asked if I wanted to dive in to tackle the trauma therapy next session. By then I'd made clear, since she'd asked what my goals were, that I am first looking to get comfortable with the therapist, then trackle trauma therapy. So the fact that she asked this question now makes me severely question not just whether she was listening but about her competence and ethics. How the h*ll does she think trauma works for me to just dive right in after this shit today? I'm angry and disappointed. I was vulnerable and she took advantage of that vulnerable state (She prompted me to book next appointment during session. I messaged her after to cancel it and never want to see her again).The gall. What makes me even more damn angry is the realization that she probably gets the trust from others with the great reviews BECAUSE OF the institutions that she is an alumna to. I fell for the luster of them myself. But let me tell you those degrees mean diddly squat if you're looking for a competent, ethical, or caring person who lends an ear to you, not to mention a THERAPIST. Save yourself the (added) trauma, time, and money. She is worth none of these. read more

I found Dr. Bakhchi through my EAP employer benefits, which added an extra level of screening, and thus peace-of-mind about what I might experience during sessions. As a victim of severe domestic violence processing through the apocalyptic hellscape of the Family Court System with my children for over a decade now, I've had a hit-or-miss relationship with therapists in the past, and to my immense relief, Dr. B. is a hit. She is nonjudgmental, compassionate, a good listener, seems to genuinely want to help--not just collect a paycheck--and rather than play god as some Mental Health professionals have the penchant to do, Dr. B. is legitimately willing to learn about, research, and ask the obvious questions pertaining to the Cottage Industry of Legal and Mental Health Professionals that is literally trafficking women and children through the dark underbelly of the Family Court System globally, and raping Motherhood, for profit. Dr. B. is on my "team," part of this fight against State-Sponsored Domestic Terrorism, and in a theatre where situational awareness can mean life or death, Dr. B.'s loyalty and devotion to her patients and commitment to doing the right thing may just have helped save some lives. read more

Not great and seemingly money hungry. We had the initial session over the phone and she was in the car driving. I asked her if it was safe or she wanted to pull over, she responded "no, it was fine". I honestly felt that was crazy unprofessional, but proceeded with what I was told would be a 50 min session. I was cut off after 30 mins. The entire conversation it was easy to tell that she was distracted or just not interested. Still I was hopeful that things would change. At the end of the session she asked for my credit card information. I asked her when I can expect the informed consent and credit card authorization form; she responded that I can expect the informed consent but there is no cc authorization because she does not store credit card information. That was a lie. I never received paperwork of any kind. The next week came and she was ten min late to the session. I was not interested in a 20 min session nor did I have the time to extend the session on the other end. She had no problem charging my insurance and credit card for a session she was late to! She charged my insurance 400 for 30 min, twice?! Extremely unprofessional. Therapy obviously does not matter to her. read more

SCAMMER & FRAUD! If I can give this "doctor" zero stars, I would. Dr Bakhchi told me to get an authorization for my son through EAP/Humana. (2) 6 therapy sessions were approved. I suspended my sons' sessions because I just wasn't seeing any improvement after 12 sessions and $300 paid in co-pays. As a single mother, $120 a month is a lot for me. Dr. Bakhchi was charging me $30 co-pay weekly when she knew it should've been waived because I gave her the auth info as well as an EAP rep TWICE and she claims she doesn't' think it went through. LIE! She tried to convince me to get my son back into sessions with her practice and told her that her trainer crossed the line with me about boundaries and the money isn't worth it. She blew herself up with her lies and found out she wasn't even supposed to be charging me ANY co-pays. I asked for a reimbursement for the money she robbed me of. She kept dodging the convo about giving me my money back and rejected my calls. I reported her to EAP and mins after they told her to reimburse me, THEN she responds to my texts only because EAP was on her a**. LOLL. She definitely knew she wasn't supposed to be taking a co-pay from me and still did it. Google this woman before giving her your insurance info. SHE IS A SCAMMER! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! read more

Please don't use this person for any therapy services unless you want to get scammed. If I could give no stars I would. A few weeks ago my son went to see her for treatment. Prior to making an appointment I checked with our insurance company to make sure she was an accepting provider (she was) and my son also asked her as well. She informed him that she accepted our insurance. My insurance has no copays and no up front fees. The provider is payed directly from the insurance company. During the session, my son reported that she behaved in an unprofessional manner, looking bored and checking/texting on her phone. At the end of the session, she charged him $200. Because he was inexperienced with how our insurance works he paid her $100, which was all the money he had on him. He came home and told me what happened. I immediately contacted her to find out why she was charging him. She tried to skate her way around it by saying that she would submit the claim and get back to us (she didn't). I left a voicemail and text requesting that she send him a refund. Of course, there was no refund and no response. After reading reviews about her from other sites (I wish we had checked her reviews in the first place), it seems that this is a common occurrence. I'm a health care professional and I know that this is no way to treat people let alone a sensitive patient population. Instead of helping people that are suffering from depression, anxiety etc., she is taking advantage of this vulnerable group - disgusting! I find her behavior to be unprofessional, unethical and down right fraudulent. I'm not letting this slide by and I will be taking further actions against her. Although I doubt my son will ever be refunded I hope this review can spare others this unpleasant experience. read more

I needed psychology testing done for an upcoming exam and Dr. Bakhchi was able to help me. After she wrote the initial report, the testing center needed another one. It needed to be done ASAP and Dr. Bakhchi worked on it on Memorial Day Weekend. She submitted the new report to me before the weekend was over.
