It's your typical run of the mill overpriced tourist trap gift shop. As a local it was worth a browse to kill some time but I have other stores I would prefer some other shops to support. Located right on Commercial Street is the perfect location to catch the eyes of tourists. It is a good sized store although some spots if busy can turn into a traffic jam of people. They have a large variety of Maine clothing and random assortment of things to remind you of your trip to Portland. A lot of prices were what you would expect of a tourist hot spot gift shop. No interaction with staff ourselves but they seemed friendly with customers who bought items. Good enough to look around, but if you have the time check out the similar nearby stores as well! You may find better deals and/or items. read more

Bought a couple of things for $100....if I knew "Logan" was going to have zero personality and not acknowledge me or say thank you after I said both to her at the beginning/end of our interaction, I seriously would've walked out and said no thank you. If you don't like your job, please quit. This is a very popular gift shop at the heart of Old Port. They really embrace the shipwreck and pirate theme, as multiple parts of the store are designed for this theme. There's a pirate statue outside the store, a popular photo spot for visitors. They have a lot of souvenir and gift items related to this theme. The aisles are really slim, so prepare to run into other people a lot. The store has plenty of unique items including apparel, decor pieces, magnets, books, cookware and lots more. Prices are comparable to other gift shops nearby. They have multiple registers to keep the checkout line moving. Staff are friendly and helpful. read more

I think this was the best souvenir and nautical themed shop we stopped in and we visited many around the Old Port area. They had a great mix of locally themed items, hats/shirts/sweaters and locally made goods (syrup, jam). We bought a lobster trap ornament, small replica Portland head light, some Maine blueberry syrup, lobster themed socks, lobster gummies and a small stuffed lobster that had Portland embroidered on it. I liked the original Maine flag clothes they had for sale featuring the old pine tree and star design. The lady working there was somewhat friendly. She was busy and seemed short of help. Comparative to other shops we went to I think the prices were around the same if not better. Worth a stop if you're looking for gifts. read more

Solid Maine souvenir shop we stumbled upon on our way back to our hotel. We found a good amount of stickers, candles, and hats that we were able to pick up. Like most souvenir shops, it's pricey so keep that in mind but there's a pretty great selection. read more

One of the nicest novelty shops I've been to. Love all the Portland Maine themed items and the variety of souvenirs and keepsakes. Seems like there's a little something for everyone here - young or mature. On our first trip in my wife and I bought a few gifts for family and friends. Second trip was to get us hats and something warm since it was cold but sunny out. Love the pirate themed section, the incense sticks that smell like the woods, and the variety of books about Portland Maine ghosts and legends. Definitely a gem of a store perfect for and tourist or traveller. Service was great too - I can tell the young man that helped us is treated well. read more

Great staff! Yet, besides it being a federal law on the books for 40+ years and the state of Maine requiring it, this place is not wheelchair or handicap accessible. They have a foot tall step into the shop that could easily be turned into a ramp. It's so goddamn tiring to still be dealing with accessibility issues on one of the most popular streets in Portland. Many of the shops are like this. It's rude and discriminatory. Will be filing a formal ADA complaint. read more

Pirates mugs and magnets Shipwreck & Cargo Company is definitely a touristy type of place and I suspect it gets tons of customers from the cruise ships that frequent Portland. The cool but very tacky plastic pirate out in front should make it very clear what type of place this is. However it is a very nice touristy store with a nice nautical and old fashion decor. Ropes, ladders and old ship stuff gives it a pleasant ambiance. Kind of difficult to move around in places but they sure cram a whole lot of stuff in inside. All kinds of the usual fridge magnets, crummy t-shirts, hats, sweats, cute lobster toys, post cards, sunglasses and other touristy gifts. However the store also has some unique and artistic things like pictures and cool craft items. Nothing very expensive but definitely a bit different. A nice little store for someone looking for a gift or souvenir. If you can't find something in here to take back home with you it's time to give up. And you can always get you picture taken with the cool and tacky pirate out in front. read more

Great store with wide selection, incredible prices, and AMAZING customer service! I was on a company retreat back in late May when I picked up a Maine Flag charm for our puppy. She was so excited to get it as part of the gifts we brought home for the family! Unfortunately her little charm was lost during a recent vet operation. We live across the country, and I was disheartened that we would not have a way to get her her charm back. Enter Shipwreck and Cargo to the rescue! I called their store, and let them know the situation, and they shipped out two charms for our puppy!! We got them in the mail today, and all we (Penny Benny included) can say is THANK YOU!! I did not like how we were treated by the store owner or whoever it was that ran it on August 12th. I bought a few things my kids wanted, but she was rude the whole time. I would have returned the items if I hadn't promised. This lady may have had a bad day, but it was our 1 day in that town and she didn't make that bit of the day a pleasure. read more

It's a tourist trap that definitely caters to the cruise ship crowd. It has your typical assortment of tees, magnets, cornucopia of lobster goodies (from stuffed to gummy), maple syrup and post cards. With so many cute little shops around featuring local artists and craftsmen, don't get sucked in. Walk up the street a little and you'll be rewarded for your efforts. read more

Great gift shop in Portland with pretty much anything you could want in a number of price ranges. Nothing here is too high end but they do have a great fishman's feel to the place, very old Maine-like, the name Shipwreck & Cargo Co fits perfectly. If you're looking for traditional gift shop shop stuff (t-shirts, shot glasses, spoons, etc..) or maybe a small unique item that won't set you back too much then Shipwreck is the place to check out. read more

It's a little hard to get around in the shop with a walker, so I gave it four stars, but honestly, it's great gift shop! Bought my husband some lobster boxer shorts. LOL!!! Nice assortment of gifts, friendly staff, I recommend a visit. The location is good, right down by the harbor which attracts the cruise ship crowd too. They were nice to shop with. Bought a #50 Bronze Ship's bell, good price and they arranged to ship it once we got home, half way across the country for next to nothing!!! Great Store, can't wait to visit again. Date was actually November of 2010 read more
