I think they aren't a good company and they put profit over customers. I placed an order online and waited for it to ship and when it arrived, it didn't include 1/3 of my order. Shipwreck beads didn't tell me ahead of time or offer any options. The item not included was the whole reason I even placed an order and was supposed to be a gift for my 8 year old nephew. I was going to write an angry email and complain but if you look at their website, it says that this happens sometimes. They also claim they have a 92% fill rate. So if only 8% of orders have issues, then why not contact the customer with options of proceeding, waiting for a restock, or to cancel the entire order? In my opinion, they either don't want to lose $ with canceled orders or this happens with more than 8% of orders and so they can't devote resources to better customer service/contacting customers with order issues. read more

I've heard wonderful things about this place. Was excited for my visit but disappointed in the inventory. I found a few charms but they were sold out of four other items I was shopping for. The didn't even apologize for it. I asked and they were like let me check. Nope all sold out! The had a 40% off sign as walking in but it was very confusing what was on 40% off. No signs posted throughout the store and while the girl checking us out was friendly and talkative she wasn't able to explain the pricing. This store use to be great! Admittedly, I haven't done any beading since prior to Covid, however when I was gifted a string of vintage turquoise that I wanted to restring and wanted sterling silver findings and beads off to shipwreck I went remembering their vast inventory and speciality "high quality" bead selection. What an utter disappointment! I went through the sterling silver inventory cards, picking seven items. I took my list over to the section where they pull the higher end items from behind the counter and of the seven things I selected they had one. ONE.... Not only did they have absolutely nothing in stock in the "speciality" section, but the entire store was completely picked over and as bare as the TP isle during the early days of COVID. Amazon here I come.... And isn't that sad?!?!?!?! I would much rather pay more and support the little guy, but when the little guy has nothing in stock it becomes a catch 22. This place is god awful. Starting with the service. The employees there gossip all day whispering behind the counters not even paying attention to the customers, and when you do get their attention they sound bothered to be asked simple questions. They're extremely unprofessional having inappropriate and condescending conversations for all to hear mind you this is a bead store you can only assume there are children around hearing these same conversations. The prices don't match anything you look for online and when asked they seem to have no basis for why they're priced as such with having half an empty store. Everything is dirty and the selection is the same stock I always see with promises of new things to come yet I never see them. From short shorts in a "professional" environment to so many people yet no one being helpful, you're better off shopping literally anywhere else online or especially in person. read more

Loveeee this store. It is a crafty person's dream though I may be biased as I love most all creative hobbies and craft stores. Though this place has a large selection of beads which is quite rare to find. I travel for work so it's not the most practical for me to go to art stores. However, I got a baggu bag and saw some fun videos on cutomizing it and wanted to try it out. Previously wanted to get into bead/tambour embroidery and loved getting inspiration and seeing the size of the beads to help me think about pursing that in the future. I loved the chain wall that they had with reasonable priced chain. Most the ones I got were stainless steel and I like the unique options they had. I made some projects with them and had a good time using the materials. The lady helping me with my chains was super sweet and helpful recommending different options and we had similar favorites. Unfortunately some options were out of stock, but overall there was a good selection. There was another staff member who I mentioned tambour hooks to who happened to remember that they had just hosted an event there and tried to help get me in contact with those people as well. read more

I have been a fan of Shipwreck Beads for over 15 years! They just moved to their new location last year, and this was the first time I got to see their latest storefront in person. Their aisles are well organized, and it is so much fun to just walk through and see the beads upon beads upon beads. They have a collection of all the supplies you would need as well. While their online store is reliable, it isn't the same-it is so nice to be able to pick and choose for oneself. They also have specials, like the "bead soup" where you can get some random assortments of beads. Something new that they are doing that I LOVE-they are letting people try out some of the beading tools that they sell, which is fantastic! The staff is wonderful-they helped us with our questions and were knowledgable about bead events as well as the beads themselves. We had fun! read more

WOW... such a disappointment. Sure there are lots of aisles and it is a big store but a lot of the items just seemed dated. It just felt like the place had lost some pizazz. I don't want to compare it to a craft warehouse but compared to the bead shops that are out there online these days or in person it just felt old school. Don't get me wrong, love old school where it fits but being a bead store there should be a lot more options. A lot of their items were expensive that should not have been. The variety was not there and the quality was meh. Maybe they are just lost at sea and not a lot of treasures to speak of. read more

I searched Google before stopping by to make sure I was okay with bringing my dog with me, she's a very well behaved doxie. Google search led me to 2 reviews that stated they brought their dogs in with no issues so I proceeded to head over with my doxie sidekick. Had her in her backpack ready to explore for a few hours... got to the door and there's a sign on the door, "no pets" so that sucked. We ended up having to turn back around. Drove down from Kent. Huge selection but seemed sort of over priced. Today they were lacking in customer service. Wanted some advice on a project and when I was directed to someone he was on break and so was the 2nd person. The 2 employees should not have been out on the floor if they were on break, but it also seemed unprofessional to bicker a bit about who was on break and when in front of a customer. I had a hard time finding this place because it wasn't marked very well compared to their last location. The sign on the door isn't very visible. Yes, they have A LOT of beads. I felt a lot of their beads were the cheap beads I used to by at the dime store in the 70s. I was disappointed that I didn't see the Swarovski beads like I saw when I visited the place about three years ago. I thought the workers weren't helpful at all and acted like they didn't want to deal with me when I asked them questions. read more

Wow! If you are into beads then this is certainly the place to go! It's like a whole warehouse of them of nearly any conceivable concept or color can be bought here. I heard raves about this place from coworkers and though I'm not into beads myself I did manage to find some things that I wanted. They had some awesome skull beads that I thought would be great that I might use. I make painted rocks and hide rubber ducks in Tacoma in parks and figured the loose skull beads I got would be very appropriate to hide for when Day of the Dead rolls around in a few months. I also bought a bracelet with the same skull beads I plan on hiding for costuming purposes of my own. Though the store specializes in beads for sure there are a few items here besides that. I found a small section of mood rings. I bought one of those just for fun. I'm not really the type of person that would take that seriously on what hue the ring may be so it was for amusement purposes only. I haven't frequented beads stores much at all and therefore I wasn't in the know on the entire checkout process. I was supposed to gather up however many beads I wanted and put them in a bag with a number to write down by the item. I was totally clueless on that part but the cashier was very sweet and patient and figured out exactly what beads I selected and rang me up in no time at all with very little effort. This was a great stop and well worth going back to. There is just so much merchandise to pour over that you could stay in here for a very long time... including a very casual customer like me. read more

It's about an hour from home so we made the trip on a Sunday. Before getting there, I didn't realize how massive the store and their selection is. I didn't know where to start! The store is clearly labeled and organized, but don't let that stop you from walking down each and every aisle. I finally made it to the new location of Shipwreck Beads. i am sure if you had never seen the old location you won't be disappointed.. but i was a regular then and here are my new observations. The store space is about a third of the old store. The warehouse is open next to the shopping area and it was very distracting to see. Some merchandise are stored behind counters and you must have someone go get what you are looking for, and if you want it they write up a little ticket that you have to give the cashier at checkout so you can pay and retrieve the item. not fun if you are browsing and not sure which type of needle you are looking for! There is no little cafe anymore where your husband or older kids can wait for you to finish shopping when they get bored or tired.. and boy there were times I had to take a sitting break before finishing my shopping. There are no more classes which is very sad because you can't find them anymore except on-line. There is no more library that I could find, and no special place for higher end beads. But I will say the people who work there are fantastic! read more

Bummed with this place. Placed 2 online orders. Both orders had broken beads. Sent an email about it and they never bothered to respond. I know it was just a dollar a bead but a few bucks is a few bucks. And I spent a few hundred dollar with them. Poor customer service. This place is huge, but I still didn't have what I was looking for. Everything was cheap cheap quality. The crystals and stones I wanted to look at were behind the counter and I didn't want to have an associate stand next to me for an hour while I pour over them, not to mention a poor selection (Michaels has better semi-precious stones). They gave my daughter a bag to clean their floor for loose beads in exchange for a prize, which were $.05 plastic bugs. So now my daughter has dirty knees, cleaned their floors and is upset that she couldn't keep any of the beads she found. read more

This is a great place to hang out with the gals but I do perfer quality over quantity and honestly there was a lot of quantity and lack of quailty. I also have issues with staff. When trying to find certain things I got a shrug and a "I'm not sure." The cafe girls were really snotty to my friend and gave an attitude when she asked a simple question. This review is not for the bricks-and-mortar store, which I'm sure is awesome. This is for the website. I've spent a couple days just playing around, looking for things I need, and frankly, I find this site difficult to navigate. The categories are confusing, I can't sort as much by type or material as would be helpful, and the direct search kept coming up blank although when I dug through the categories I often found what I had searched for. There are a certain amount of assumptions about what the customer knows, such as length of strand and the like. I've shopped long enough and in enough places to know there is no standard length. Also not happy that I had to create an account for what is likely to be a one-time purchase. However, delivery was right on time, everything was there, and the packaging was secure but not too hard to open, so points for that. If I'm ever in that part of Washington state, I'll visit, but I doubt I'll order again. read more

Yes beads have been incorporated into the cement! There is everything in this store--even a place to sit down and drink coffee. There are precious metals, gems, semi precious, glass, seed, stuff on sale, stuff bought from stores going out of business, all supplies needed to bead, boxes and trays and lights, findings OMG!!! This place is huge. Instead of giving you a bead tray, you get a bead cart. You pretty much need a map to go through this place, and it's gonna be a long day if you want to do it all in one shot. If you get a chance to actually go to the store, do so. The best way to shop here would be to visit their website first, and make yourself a list of what you need to buy and the product code/numbers. They're all arranged in the store in a certain way so an employee will be able to show you exactly where the items are. Also that way you have some sort of limit on what all you're buying or else if you're like me, you'd try to walk out taking the whole damn store with you. The staff are definitely friendly and helpful. The selection of beads is mind-blowing and honestly I think you'd have a harder time not finding something than finding it. They also sell PMC in different varieties, which is most often lacking in smaller/.local bead stores. There's also a pretty large selection of all sorts of jewelry displays. Pricing is very good and extremely competitive. They do have pretty good sales, which you can get newsletters via email for if you subscribe to them. A note on their website. It's not that great of a website and when compared to other bead big merchants it's a little clunky and takes some getting used to. There's also a minimum which is a little annoying because a lot of times I'm not really interested in buying 25 dollars worth of things all at once, or the only reason I'm on the website is for a sale and I don't see 25 bucks worth of beads to buy.
