Salt fish- they don't have all the time
    Lea M.

God bless Shirley's! Some back story... I'm a Dominican/Trini from NY and thank god for this place. This is unfair because I'm posting something they don't have often, salt fish. This is the only place I can get good West Indian food. I mean the opportunity to capitalize on cultural eating in Austin is high. Hard to get authentic home cooked food, not the watered down version of a lot of things I've had. When I need a fix I get some doubles. But the stew chicken, curry anything and dhalpuri are my go-tos.

Ahhh, so delicious! Got the oxtail stew with pelau rice (covered in gravy), with the side salad and fried plantains. The price is $18, which doesn't sound cheap but the portion is MASSIVE! So many oxtails that are saucy and melt off the bone and into the rice. I didn't look particularly glamorous sucking all the sauce off the bones in the park but I was in my own world at that point. The plantains are on point; I wish there were more slices of them in my plate (do they sell them as a side? If so, grab em!)...but also it was a good thing they didn't because I greedily ate the entire thing in a single sitting and then was uncomfortably full for the rest of the evening. So, get the oxtail and then don't make my mistake. Have some restraint instead of shoveling it all down your gullet--save it for later cos it's not going anywhere and will be just as good reheated. Or share it with someone and don't be as selfish as I was. And if you are saving for later, might as well go ahead and buy a second plate for later cos it's just that good.

My first time trying Trinidad & Tobago cuisine - very pleasantly surprised! Menu offers less than 10 items and looks to be an Indo-Caribbean fusion. Yes please! At the recommendation of the friendly woman running inside, I got an $18 Roti wrap with both the chicken curry and aloo (potato) curry. Wonderful deep flavors, more savory Indian and no hint of sweetness - exactly what I wanted. The Roti was spot on - dryer than tortilla and made of wheat. I left feeling pleasantly full and not like I had consumed a gut bomb. Perfect for energy food as I head to downtown Austin with 3 kiddos and grandparents in Would definitely try some of the other options here. Great first impression!

Hidden Trinidadian food gem in South Austin! The food was very tasty and well seasoned. The jerk chicken was fall off the bone moist, salad was fresh, and the red beans were delicious. The macaroni pie was a nice square serving of mac and cheese with more melted cheese on top. I would say the portions are generous for being a food truck. The spicy orange sauce was omg so amazing - I poured it all over the whole dish. Definitely coming back here!

Let me start by saying one thing I missed about Orlando is the abundance of Caribbean food. Thankfully Austin is starting to get a variety of restaurants! Shirley's is real authentic Trini food from Trinidad! The best thing about this place is, you can select the spice level. They have 3 different spice levels, novice, medium, really hot. My fiancé got the daily special, which was pork sandwich and it was really good. Kinda had food envy but mine (Curry Chicken) was amazing too! I am too full. I wanted to stop eating but I couldn't because it was so good. I ate there at 1pm and I didn't even eat dinner because I'm still so full. Definitely recommend!

As my family is from Trinidad, I was so excited to hear that there is a Trini restaurant!! My Dad was such a bad cook that I never got to try Trini food... As I walked up to the food truck I heard the familiar accent of my family when I was little. And I was truly welcomed by such amazingly nice people! I came here to try not only Trini food, but I heard they had a special today of Bake & Shark. My sandwich was as amazing! I immediately felt like I was home even though I never have had it. Even though I live way up North, I will come here as much as I can. I highly recommend!!

After seeing a show on TV about Trinidad and Tobego food, I was so excited to find a place that served it. Shirley's definitely did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I had the Stew Chicken, Stew Oxtails, Potato Salad, Macaroni Pie, and Fried Plantains. They were all delicious. The oxtails and potato salad went great together and the plantains melted in my mouth. The staff were all very friendly and helpful when ordering. I will 100% return.

I was searching for Indian food on Uber eats and to my surprise this spot came up and it's in my neighborhood!! I will have to me a trip in person when it's warmer out. Great portion and it was flavorful. Since moving from Flatbush, finding good west Indian food is soo hard out here! I ordered curry chicken and plaintain. The plaintain are made just the way I like them. I'm hoping they will add goat to the menu!

Just left here from lunch and my god what a treat this was! I had a combination of oxtail and jerk chicken and it's probably the best thing I've had this year. Will definitely be recommending and coming back multiple times!

I informed him of my onion allergy and he made sure I still have an amazing experience without missing out on dishes I wanted to try. Food: woah... everything is so unique and Caribbean/African coded as well as flavorful. The Roti I can eat in my sleep lol. The Wild Boar was tender and falling apart. The Suya was a off the menu item and an award winning dish. The cabbage was so flavorful. The desserts were 100/10. The watermelon and papaya salad I can eat EVERYDAY!! The ceviche is so unique. My Lord I loved everything here. Ambiance: the black art, the decor, music and vibes are top tier. 1000000/10 recommend.

So this fit the vibes and aesthetics for a nice sit down Caribbean meal for date night, celebration, or just because. However, two things: they had "valet" for a man to back our car into a spot which we could've done & then tip as you like. It felt very odd and unsure of how much to tip despite the quick "put it in reverse" idk if this is just a thing here in Austin. But he was pushing is QR code for Venmo the whole experience. 2nd, it was way too loud and dark to see or even have a convo. Loud music and all the conversations blurred each other out. Man I wanted to get out of there ! As for food, they did ask if we were okay with spicy but man all the food was spicy that it masked all the other flavors. Super cool to incorporate suya as we've been watching and hearing about it in food shows but I don't think it was used in a way to complement the food. It was just like bam I am suya ! My fave was the beef patties. The tapas are very small. Smaller than photo size prob so make sure to order enough or asks your server. The chicken was very hefty and was given bbq sauce to help mild the spice. Nice to have but it did not pair well with the Caribbean flavors. The price is decent compared to what we have but compared to Austin prices a bit higher. All and all looks cool, nice place to experience maybe once, but a pass for us next time.

I was visiting a friend in Austin and we were about to go out on the town and decided we wanted to stop and get some food.
