Ok I had a sample but for the big fest at dinner. Lets just say my mouth is falling in love. The service is so nice and why did she tell me they are having my requested roti tomorrow?!!!! Shirley's is located in a permanent food park right next door to me. Also located there is Anything Baked Potato. I absolutely love the jerk chicken tacos and fried plantains. My boyfriend loves the curry chicken and oxtail sandwich. The plantains are cooked to perfection without becoming soggy and bland. The flavors of all the food have such an amazing combination of spices. Really hits the taste buds in the right spot. Grabbing food from this truck really feels like Trinidad. God bless Shirley's! Some back story... I'm a Dominican/Trini from NY and thank god for this place. This is unfair because I'm posting something they don't have often, salt fish. This is the only place I can get good West Indian food. I mean the opportunity to capitalize on cultural eating in Austin is high. Hard to get authentic home cooked food, not the watered down version of a lot of things I've had. When I need a fix I get some doubles. But the stew chicken, curry anything and dhalpuri are my go-tos. read more

Ahhh, so delicious! Got the oxtail stew with pelau rice (covered in gravy), with the side salad and fried plantains. The price is $18, which doesn't sound cheap but the portion is MASSIVE! So many oxtails that are saucy and melt off the bone and into the rice. I didn't look particularly glamorous sucking all the sauce off the bones in the park but I was in my own world at that point. The plantains are on point; I wish there were more slices of them in my plate (do they sell them as a side? If so, grab em!)...but also it was a good thing they didn't because I greedily ate the entire thing in a single sitting and then was uncomfortably full for the rest of the evening. So, get the oxtail and then don't make my mistake. Have some restraint instead of shoveling it all down your gullet--save it for later cos it's not going anywhere and will be just as good reheated. Or share it with someone and don't be as selfish as I was. And if you are saving for later, might as well go ahead and buy a second plate for later cos it's just that good. read more

Highly recommend getting the oxtail fries! The fries were nice and crispy and oxtail was 10/10 Would also recommend to try the solo drinks, i have never seen them but i would go back for that drink alone. i will be back soon No photos to post bc it was too good to wait. My first time trying Trinidad & Tobago cuisine - very pleasantly surprised! Menu offers less than 10 items and looks to be an Indo-Caribbean fusion. Yes please! At the recommendation of the friendly woman running inside, I got an $18 Roti wrap with both the chicken curry and aloo (potato) curry. Wonderful deep flavors, more savory Indian and no hint of sweetness - exactly what I wanted. The Roti was spot on - dryer than tortilla and made of wheat. I left feeling pleasantly full and not like I had consumed a gut bomb. Hidden Trinidadian food gem in South Austin! The food was very tasty and well seasoned. The jerk chicken was fall off the bone moist, salad was fresh, and the red beans were delicious. The macaroni pie was a nice square serving of mac and cheese with more melted cheese on top. I would say the portions are generous for being a food truck. Shirley's is real authentic Trini food from Trinidad! The best thing about this place is, you can select the spice level. They have 3 different spice levels, novice, medium, really hot. My fiancé got the daily special, which was pork sandwich and it was really good. Kinda had food envy but mine (Curry Chicken) was amazing too! I am too full. What a gem! We got the oxtails and stewed chicken with pelau rice, plantain, and a side salad. We also got the jerk chicken and an order of roti on the side. The meat was really tender and flavorful and the pelau was packed with flavor. I can't wait to come back on a weekend to try the doubles! The Solo soda is fun. Food: Pretty good. The jerk chicken was probably the best thing on the menu (we did go on a Sunday with a slightly limited menu). The jerk chicken had a nice smokey flavor and wasn't dried out but it was super mild and lacking authentic jerk flavors. I also got mac and cheese and plantains as a side. The mac and cheese was baked, not bad. Fried plantains are always good, they were sweet and warm! We also got the stewed chicken with rice and beans. The chicken was very dry and missing actual stew. The portion of rice was way too much for the amount of stew. Keep in mind, both the rice and the beans are separated, bland, and unseasoned so you really need that sauce lol. Drinks: Tried the banana soda, it was good! Tasted like banana laffy taffy cream soda haha. They didn't have any Ting sodas. (Didn't realize this was just a Jamaican thing) Atmosphere: Love the look of the bright red food truck in this little truck park, they even had their own reggae music playing. There are plenty of outdoor benches to sit and eat. Service: Very friendly. I love Shirley's and I go almost every Saturday for the doubles which are honestly fantastic and to my knowledge the only place in Austin where you can get them. Shirley's was on a hiatus for a little bit but now they are back. I guess it takes awhile to get back into the swing of things because the last time I ordered the curry channa with rice, while the curry channa was perfectly seasoned the rice was hard and undercooked and I went back the following week and I ordered the roti and curry channa, the roti as always is soft and flaky and made fresh to order ( I can hear them clapping it in the truck) but the channa curry was lacking a little. However the people who run this food truck have always been very friendly and accommodating to me and I will continue to support them because really there is no other food truck like this one in Austin and I like knowing I can get this type of food here! read more

But myself and my middle sister still found something from what was available. She got a doubled and the special which was pig tail stew. I got goat curry with ghalib and roti. First off everything was very tasty. I felt like my food was a bit salty until I added their hot sauce. OMFG THAT SET IT OFF!!! We had never had pigs tail before but it was tender and flavorful. The only complaint we had was that it wasn't a enough food. My sister was still hungry after her meal because there were mostly potatoes in her stew with very little else. The meat was sparce. All in all it was a good experience. The people working were friendly and helpful because we didn't know about the food. Super friendly staff helped direct us on what we should get. I got the chicken stew and my partner got jerk chicken. We both got beans and macaroni pie. Everything was delicious. The macaroni pie is everything you want it to be and the jerk chicken is so flavorful and not going to blow you out of the water with the spice level. only thing was our beans and stewed chicken were lukewarm and we only live around the corner from the food truck park.
