Came here for an early dinner on a Tuesday, I was the only patron. My food came out within a few minutes of my ordering it. I went for a regular oxtail plate with gungo rice and plantains. Overall I liked it! The oxtail was tender and delicious, the sauce had a nice mix of smoke, sweetness, and a tiny bit of heat. For a regular (as opposed to their large) size plate it felt like a good amount of oxtail I thought based on the description the gungo rice would have a more prominent coconut taste but it was pretty typical Jamaican peas and rice. The star of the plate was the oxtail and the sides don't really factor into my review unless it really stands out in one direction or the other Overall I'd definitely recommend giving them a try and will absolutely be back here to try more of their menu read more

I have been wanting to try Bikkle Jamaican Restaurant for some time now. Friends were coming into town and wanted Jamaican food. Ding ding!!! We decided to eat at Bikkle, close to the University of Texas at Austin on Guadalupe Street. Bikkle is known for its authentic Jamaican cuisine such as jerk chicken, oxtails (hard to find anywhere anymore) and curry goat. Between the four of us, we ordered jerk chicken, curry goat, and curry chicken. We all went for red beans and rice with cabbage. All dishes came with plantain, which is one of my favorites. Having been to Jamaica a couple of times, I can report out that this food is authentic! The flavors were swirls of goodness in every bite. The food was also warm when served. We also ordered jerk chicken egg rolls. Just think about that concept for a minute. The jerk chicken egg rolls were exceptionally good. The highlight for me was the curry goat. First, you do not find goats on many menus. The curry goat was tender and oh so flavorful. Some pieces had associated fat. All in all, everyone was happy with their meals. During our dinner, only one person was serving customers. She was super friendly and personable. I must think she was overworked as the stream of customers came in. Now for the décor...if you walked in and looked only at the counter, you would have thought it was a "to go" restaurant only as many "to go" containers were stacked high on the counter. Only one other couple sat down and ate in the restaurants and most folks were picking up their food to go. Even the people eating inside the restaurant were served in "to go" containers. The inside is minimalist with no ornate furnishings and yellow walls, projecting a Caribbean feel. Recommend adding a bit more Jamaican artifacts such palm trees, Jamaican flag, surfboard, etc. It would be a great spot for students, friend meet ups and a causal date night... This is a solid spot for Carribean cuisine for Austin, but could be improved. If you have a craving though Id stop by. Location is right by the UT campus so be prepared for pedestrian traffic. It has its own lot and we had no trouble parking. The restaurant is fast casual and a bit sparse with seating - Id recommend to-go if you want a comfortable dining experience. Its painted yellow inside and is a bit run down. The food was good! The oxtail was delicious- it was saucier than Ive had at other places but still good. The jerk chicken had incredible smokey flavor but was on the dry side- with some of the sauce though it was good. Plantains were amazing, have to try those, and get the Gungoo rice! I ordered from here specifically for the ox tails. I was craving ox tails and I'd heard that they were black owned so I had to try it. The jerk chicken stole the show. It wasn't spicy but the flavor was great! The Ox tails were pretty good. Not quite what I was expecting from ox tails but still good. I'd eat them again. The 2 small slices of plantains that were included weren't bad but I wouldn't say they were good either. When I opened the food up, I was initially upset that it was only 2 slices. After trying them, I didn't mind. The rice was eh, until I tried it with the sauce/roux from the ox tails. That made the rice taste great! I wish I had more of it to drizzle over all of the rice. The cabbage was better than expected and I wish that I'd been given more of that instead of the plantains. The price was a bit steep but I did order it through Uber Eats, so it was kind of expected. We ordered the oxtail and jerk chicken dinners. At 3pm on a Friday, they had run out of cabbage. HOW??? A signature side for a jerk place, and you're out at 3pm. WOW... I got a double rice. Tasty but brutally expensive. A combination plate with oxtail and jerk chicken (the two most popular dishes) is over $30 now. While the food was excellent (particularly the oxtail), the location is extremely run-down, and the restaurant seems optimized primarily for takeout orders at this point. I've been here many times since I first discovered this restaurant a couple of years ago. This is the best Jamaican restaurant in the area as far quality and service! I've eaten many of their entrees and they're all really good. The oxtails are delicious! You get big pieces and a heaping amount of rice and red beans or rice and gungo rice peas. The oxtails is well flavored and the gravy is scrumptious! I highly recommend this entree! I've also had the brown stew chicken which is always delicious with it's unique flavor and gravy you can go wrong with tenderly and very tasty chicken. One of my favorites it the jerk chicken. It's well seasoned not too spicy, but the accompanying jerk sauce adds a nice savory mix to the flavor. I did have curry goat entre but I wasn't too fond of it. It just wasnt flavorful and tensor to me. Last bit not least the Jamaican beef patties! This is definitely a go. The crust is how a Jamaican patty is supposed to be flaky. The beef is so delicious. The chicken patty is just as delicious! However please support this local eatery and enjoy the wonderful food. Customer service is soooo poor. The girls at the register just look at you & wait for you to place your order. There's also a stench when you first walk in but you get used to it after being inside for a while. Food was not hot, and it wasn't that great either. Portion size was small for the $47 price tag. In town for AfroTech and my friends wanted to come here. It's was on my list to hit up. No regrets! A few things to note they do sell out of things. They don't offer macaroni pie or black cake. The place is clean and pretty big. Crazy to say but the people are kind! Patricia at the check out was super helpful and the cooks in the back were hard at work as some people ordered take out. The potatoes were too salty in my opinion on their own so you have to eat it with rice to balance it out. The rice was really buttery. The jerk chicken was smoky and spicy and it came with a drumstick, thigh, plantains, rice and peas, and cabbage. The sauce was delicious. The curry and jerk chicken were both excellently seasoned, they had so many spices I was awestruck when I took my first bite. It paired very well with the rice and cabbage. The place was empty when we arrived, which surprised us, and looked very barren inside. Overall, given that most of the plates on the menu were over $20, we expected much better quality. It was so bad that I couldn't even eat the oxtails after a few bites. The rice and peas were dry and they also had this strange sweet taste to them. The cabbage was lackluster and lacked flavor. My husband ordered the jerk chicken, rice and peas and cabbage and also commented that his rice and peas were oddly sweet, like sugar was put in them. We arrived about 6ish Friday night & ate in. A steady flow of patrons dipped in for pickup(s) and a few others stayed. Our order; Goat Curry (this was lightly flavored and tender),Chicken Curry (my wife really enjoyed the flavor here) & Jerk Chicken (lightly seasoned and most importantly, not over cooked ) Entrees. So glad I gave it a try! Rice and peas are a staple but I highly suggest giving the callaloo rice a try if you're looking for something new. The chicken was very well seasoned and fell right off the bone. Just wish they provided a bit more gravy and plantain. I didn't try the oxtails myself but was told it was cooked to perfection. Which I remember being delicious, but at $18, was not something that I could just get on a whim. Today though, I did not feel like making lunch. So I ordered the jerk chicken egg rolls ($5 for 2) and coco bread ($2). Holy hell, that's a steal. Genuinely some of the best chicken I've ever had. Tender, flavorful, smoky, with a tangy beautiful sauce. Absolutely getting this again when I don't feel like making food. As a bonus, there's also a drink case with lots of interesting imported Jamaican beverages, which is my Achilles heel. Service was not fast, but approximate timing is indicated on the menu and I don't mind waiting for chicken this good, at this price.
