Shirley's is great! Today is my Nanny's 95th birthday. I didn't want to order from 1800Flowers so I googled local shops. Shirley's has a fantastic website that is easy to use and they can do same day delivery! However, I called and spoke with Victory because I had a question before ordering and I ended up just placing the order on the phone. I ordered a bouquet of 70 flowers for my mom's 70th birthday. The two people I talked with talked me through my order and helped me make selections. I told them I wanted something colorful yet also tasteful that wouldn't break the bank. I admit I was nervous about what a bouquet of 70 flowers would look like, but the way Shirley's Florist designed it met and exceeded my expectations. My mom, a flower lover and frequent bouquet buyer, said it was the most beautiful display she had ever seen. The arrangement was absolutely stunning. My family has used Shirley's florist twice this year. Unfortunately, both events were for funerals. Both times, the arrangements were beautiful! For the second occasion, there were very unexpected and tragic circumstances involved. When Shirley found out what we were going through, she went above and beyond, what I think most florist would have been willing to do. She did the arrangement on a day when she would've normally been closed. It was going to be Crimson Tide themed. She tried to make it to her wholesaler to get more flowers, to make it very special for the price we agreed upon, but the weather prevented her from being able to. Thankfully, she had in her shop already, some of the most beautiful crimson colored roses, that were double pedaled, gorgeous white hydrangeas, white carnations and white lillies. There was a crimson colored centerpiece that said "Roll Tide" with the cursive A underneath. Under it, there was a beautiful bow, with small A's and houndstooth on the edges, trailing down to the bottom of the arrangement. You could barely see the stand it was on, because of the gorgeous greenery she used. It was 6 feet tall and absolutely stunning. On the top of the centerpiece, she placed two large doves that looked as if they were about to take flight. She did all of that for $50 less than what we had agreed upon, since she couldn't make it to her wholesaler, even though it was worth every penny of the original price we discussed. She delivered it herself to insure the flowers made it to the viewing, during tropical storm Nate. I would recommend this shop to anyone who needs flowers. I chose Shirley's Florist based upon another review here on yelp. I'm so glad I did. I placed an online order for a basket of white hydrangeas for a funeral, not even thinking about the time of year it was and that they were out of season. Within an hour, someone at Shirley's called to let me know that they were not available, but suggested a pot of mums in their place. The next day I realized I had given them the wrong funeral home information in my online order, so I called to make the change --- they had already taken care of it for me. When I arrived at the funeral home on Tuesday, I was thinking the mums would be in a small pot (my order was in the $50 range) but the lady (I believe her name is Denise) had described them as beautiful and she wasn't kidding. They were the biggest, prettiest pot of yellow mums I've ever seen, and they can be replanted. Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers and excellent customer service. Both my mother-in-law and I ordered flowers for my sister-in-law's funeral. We both requested and were promised particular flowers. The orders were placed two days apart, but NEITHER of our arrangements were close to what was requested and promised. There reasoning was they must have put the wrong name on the flowers... don't use!! read more

I chose to call them because they had a website which is associated with FTD - also because the house I wanted flowers delivered to was just on the other side of the hwy in Chaulkville. I called them not consciously thinking they were two hours ahead (I'm in San Francisco) and when I called their driver was already out for the day. Katie answered the phone and after she looked up the address she said they would be able to deliver the same day because tomorrow was 4th of July and they were closed. Katie also was patient with me since the list over a dozen people that pitched in to send the flowers took awhile to make sure their names were all correctly spelled. A little over an hour later, I called to add a name to the already long list but she said "I'm sorry. it's out on delivery right now." I said Wow, that was quick. Here's what my friend emailed all of us after she and her family received the flowers: "WOW! Today we got the largest, most beautiful arrangement of flowers I have ever seen." If I ever need any flowers in Birmingham again, I know where to go. read more

I ordered flowers by phone to be sent to Orangeville Ontario. I was assured they would be delivered next day. ! week later it came to my attention that the flowers were never delivered. I called an d they said they were sorry and that my money would be refunded post haste. 2 weeks later no refund I called again lady I spoke with was rude and couldn't have cared less that the flowers I ordered were never delivered and my money was not refunded. My money was finally refunded. Would not ever use FTD again. Very poor service. read more

Horrible florist! Incredibly rude! Would not let me preorder, just said to come in. So I did. When I arrived she yelled at my son for sitting on her couch. There wasn't a sign saying not to. The flower selection was low quality. She was irritated I was having a hard time trying to find flowers that weren't almost dead. In a bind a chose a bunch. I just ordered flowers for a teenage girl and made it very clear what I wanted color wise and specifically said I wanted roses with a few other flowers. I told them I did not want it to look like an old lady arrangement. What she got looked like something for a funeral, it had predominately star gazer lillies,a rose or two and a few other filler flowers. I paid $65 for this and my co-workers all agreed I was cheated. When I called to complain they first said they did not get the message about my wishes. I told them I received a n email confirmation and it clearly stated what I asked for. Then they said they filled the order with the dollar amount of flowers I was supposed to get. Their answer was to pick up the container and redo it. First of all, the child has just had surgery and I am not going to take away these flowers and then redeliver more later. They have got to be crazy! They did not offer a discount or anything. I will no longer do business with them. I was a repeat customer but I guess they do not value my business. read more

I ordered an arrangement over the internet using BirminghamFlowers.com and this florist was used. The arrangment I chose had bright pinks and purples, assorted flowers with tissue and curling ribbon. Not terribly expensive (45.00) but it was bright and frilly and what I wanted for a new mother. What she received was 4 baby pink and 4 soft yellow roses in a glass bowl, with fern. That was it. I cried when she sent me the picture, What a waste of my time and money. I will never do it again, I can't trust the florists used to make the right decisions. It was not even CLOSE, Stay away from the above site. It is a waste of hard earned money. read more

When my uncle passed away, his children and I ordered flowers for his funeral from Frequent Flower in Trussville, AL. Both arrangements were delivered late, visitation was almost over! Some of the flowers for his casket were never delivered and the ribbon on the flower blanket had misspelled Papaw. Shirley did an amazing job with the flowers for our wedding. The flowers were picked up on Friday for a Saturday wedding. After the wedding, all of the water was poured out of the vases to travel home, the flowers were placed in a plastic bucket with a lid, and upon arriving home, the buckets were placed in the garage... until Wednesday when I finally had time to do something with them. To my amazement, they were ALL still alive! I trimmed the stems and I now have them decorating my home, still alive and beautiful. The flowers that did not come in my wedding colors were dyed to the appropriate colors and looked great. Shirley was very good about contacting me if something I needed wasn't in season, and the customer service was great. I will definitely use Shirley's Florist for future flower needs. read more
