I first worked with Shocking Difference in 2012 while we were living in a rental and the owner scheduled an appointment. They essentially had to rework the entire electrical panel as it had been done as a DIY project by a previous owner. They found many more problems than anyone expected, and worked for 2 days until all issues were repaired without changing their estimate! We've used Shocking difference in the past and were generally pleased with their performance. On this occasion I hired them to fix an air conditioner that wasn't getting power. They followed the line through the crawl space and identified a hall switch that had been turned off and turned it on, for which they charged $380! I wrote them asking if they could explain why turning on a switch cost to much. After a delay, they did respond and stressed their goal to satisfy the customer; they then reduced the fee by $100. read more

Our estimate was higher than we could afford, a call to get additional information was a disaster. The woman my husband spoke with was less than helpful. Showed up an hour early for the appointment and worked quickly. Quote was great compared to another local electrician that was about 3x the amount. We have worked with Shocking Difference twice; the first time was to troubleshoot, no repairs necessary and while there, the lead repairman noted that our circuit breaker box was old and we should consider replacing it, but he did not try to sell us a new one. A few months later, we had new electrical problems and this time we needed to replace the panel; good panels last about 30 years and ours was about 51 years old. We received a quote, we accepted it, and the replacement was scheduled. The workers arrived on time, they accomplished the work in the stated timeframe and came in slightly under budget. When we had questions, they took the time to answer them. One installer came back to help us identify what breaker operated which circuit, no extra charge. They made everything right. The owner came by to ensure all was well (it was) and took extra time to visit and ensure customer satisfaction. The price was fair and competitive, the work done on time and within budget--you can't ask for more than that. read more

I had these guys out today to disconnect the electricity to an old furnace and install a series of recessed lighting in my house. They were very knowledgeable and explained everything they were doing as they did it. Their prices are laid out in essentially a menu that is open, and not some secret they pull out of a hat. The price they gave up front is the price I was charged even though my job ended up being much more complicated than they had planned. They left the house cleaner than when they had arrived. We recently bought a home more than 50 years old, so we were braced for some electrical issues. Still, we were baffled when some of the lights and wall plugs stopped working in our master bedroom, while others in the same room still worked. What up with that? So based on its consistently good reviews, we called Shocking Difference. Well, Shawn and Anthony just left. They spotted the problem within 30 seconds (a GFI that we didn't know we had, had popped). They then gave the entire house a safety inspection and pointed out what issues we need to fix (which echoed what we learned in the home inspection during escrow) and what ways we could make the house even more current (pun intended). Shawn and Anthony presented us with four options in improving our home's power supply and distribution, from Cadillac to the bare minimum, leaving for us to chose what we wanted and could afford. We had shocking difference come out because our window-installed air conditioner was not powering on. As a matter of fact it probably had not been powering on all year. We checked the various things like breakers and we searched around for potential GFI switches that had been tripped. We came up empty and I called these guys. We made an appointment and the owner himself showed up even before schedule (but he called first). He crawled underneath a window outside and found that the GFI had been triggered on the plug from the air conditioner. Immediately I said to myself "you idiot now your going to have to pay this dude because you didn't find the GFI in question". However because he was the owner and was in the area he didn't charge me. Needless to say I will use this company for all my electrical needs. read more

Recently purchased a home that needed a few electrical items moved around (who puts switches behind doors?) and updated. Called Shocking Difference & immediately set up an estimate/review of work appt. They called at 1st on the day of, to see if they could reschedule because of an emergency elsewhere but I had already driven over an hour and a half to get to the house to meet them & they scrambled to get someone down there so I didn't waste an almost 4 hr round trip. They sent the owner, Darrell. Nice!----thanks Darrell for being the pinch hitter & filling in. He understood everything we wanted, made great notes & I set up an appt, recvd a quote & for the actual work date I got Zeb. Zeb was awesome, professional, friendly & endlessly patient with questions about the electrical. If there were more than one way to deal with any particular issue, he asked me which way I wanted it handled & explained the difference between the different ways to handle the issue if needed. I always get a call from the office on the morning of an appt, then a call from the electrician when they're about 1/2 hour out. I had these guys come out and install a generator backup system on my main panel. I think its called a manual transfer switch with an outlet that you plug my generator into. They did an excellent job. The electricians that came to install it were not only perfessional but were very nice, friendly and clean. They installed it exactly as I pictured and when they were done they cleaned everything up as if they weren't even there. And then they explained in great detail that I could understand how to use the new system and tested it for me to insure it worked properly. The electrician's they had sent were some of the best I have ever dealt with. Shane and Sunny are my new go to electricians and Shocking Difference will be recommended to all my family and friends. I wouldn't recommend Shocking Difference to anyone, but if you're determined to go with them, make sure you get a "troubleshooting" estimate before they come out to your house. I told them exactly what I needed them to work on: three Cadet wall heaters in three separate rooms. They only quoted me a dispatch charge. Once they arrived at my house, they advised it would cost more than $415 just to do the troubleshooting. The technician (who was polite, which is the only reason I'm giving them a second star) guessed that I might need three new thermostats, which he said would cost me an additional $129 each. I declined and called a different electrician who did all the troubleshooting AND repairs for less than $380. On top of how exorbitantly expensive their quote was, the lady I talked to at their office was rude and condescending. I can't speak to their expertise since I didn't end up having them do the work, but I'm glad I found a different electrician who did great work for about half the price Shocking Difference quoted me. read more
