I am a new patient of Dr Shohet. I recently went to see him to have my hearing evaluated. His staff was professional, and he took the time to ask questions and listen to my concerns. The most impressive thing about him was that after I had an MRI and he received the results he called me immediately to let me know that everything was fine so that I didn't have to worry for the next 10 days before my next appointment with him. I had called to make an appointment for a Wednesday as this is my only day off during the week and then I will be out of town until after August. They confirmed that I would be scheduled on Wednesday, February 18 at 1 PM and then proceeded to put me on their books for Tuesday the 17th at 1 PM. I received the paperwork to fill out on Tuesday the 17th which I did. I was never called to be alerted of a missed appointment. The fault that I have is that when I received a confirmation text, I did not double check the dates because I assumed that they put me down for the Wednesday. I came here 20 years ago for a hearing problem. Never had an issue. When I came back and brought my kids, I was over charged for my visit and my children's visit. Was told after they bill insurance they will refund. I have called and left two messages and used patient portal to send a message and no response. This office is in my network there should be no extra upfront charges. So strange to me. I discovered this after calling my insurance to discuss going somewhere else for hearing aid because they want $5800 upfront and my insurance will pay! She explained to me that insurance paid for our visits and we should have only paid our copays. I paid more than that! Hopefully someone will reach out and fix this. read more

I waited 7 weeks. When I arrived, I was informed I had to schedule another appointment for a hearing test. Why was that not done 7 weeks before. The doctor i saw was not prepared. He didn't know I was referred by a specialist. He was on his phone most of the 10 minute session. Maybe researching? A new appointment was scheduled, which I am going to be canceling today. I visited 3 other ENTs before I met Dr. Shohet and want to say, after having those visits, that the field of treating ear conditions is complex, and for anyone to say claims that Dr. Shohet doesn't know how to meat those complexities is far from the truth. I had a ruptured ear drum since NYE and just had a tympanoplasty performed by him. His bedside manner is one of the best, I would love to have a beer with him. He answered all of my questions. this place felt like a scam. I went in and they did some test to check my hearing and charged me a copay of $50 dollars. then they apparently charged me another copay to meet with someone to discuss the findings of the hearing test and why my ear felt clogged. mind you none of this was explained to me when I arrived or at any time before my appointment. it was also never explained to me that the tests they were doing were for hearing. if they had, I would have told them that my hearing is fine and I am only there because my ear felt clogged. the only way I found out what the tests they did were for and that I was charged two copays was when I called their billing department because they sent me another bill. all in all it was a complete waste of time and money, especially since the advice was just to continue my use of Flonase. read more

Do not go here. They are quick to take your money, but once that's done, they cut you off completely. Here's my story. In October 2024, I visited Doctor Shohet's office to have my surfer's ear checked out. I'm a young married college student, and money is tight. I usually avoid expensive medical visits, but I literally couldn't hear. I paid out of pocket for a consultation, a follow-up visit, and a hearing test--trusting their promise that I would be reimbursed once insurance paid them. Well, my insurance did pay them. The checks cleared. But here I am nearly seven months later, still waiting for a reimbursement. I've spent hours on the phone. My insurance company confirmed they've sent multiple checks to the correct address, and those checks were cashed. Yet Shohet's billing department claims they never received them. I even arranged a three-way call between my insurance and Jonathan from Shohet's billing team. After about an hour of trying to sort things out, Jonathan flat-out gave up and said he was "over it." That's how much they care. They have my money. They may have cashed checks from my insurance. But they've left me in the dark, out of the cost of what amounts to a month of rent for me. This place doesn't care about its patients--just getting paid. And if Dr. Shohet responds here pretending I misunderstood or got something wrong (like he has on other negative reviews), don't be fooled. Nobody from his office has followed up with my insurance. If they did, they gave up. Let me be clear: this office is negligent at best and corrupt at worst. They've taken my money, possibly double-dipped with my insurance, and left me to deal with the fallout. It's not just bad service--it's theft with a smile. In the end, I got the surgery done somewhere else--hassle-free, respectful, and professional. It's clear now that going to Shohet's office in the first place was the real mistake. read more

Shohet Ear Associates is a reputable ENT office! They cured my sons dizziness with the extensive testing and Dr Shohet performed my friends daughters surgery when she was little. I saw him for my inbalance and dizziness. He listened very well and gave great advice and prescribed medication that helped. The office is local and they get you an appointment in a timely manor. I had hearing test done and they are very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this physician! Note: My only tip is; The front office could be more friendlier and welcoming. read more

Referred to Dr Shohet after the results of a previous audio exam. I've had a rapid hearing loss in one ear and have some equilibrium problems. Very accomodating front desk and I got a quick appointment. Good exam and thorough explanation of where i stand. Was sent out for an MRI, already had a referral from my ENT, to Hoag. Hoag was booked till mid June so I went with the same exam at the MRI facility my ENT recommended. Hope they accept it. Simply by stating that you would come to the office to talk in person because your office does not call back is saying hey, let's talk In person - we are not communicating effectively via phone is not a threat, it's a request to smooth out communications in person with someone other then the person who is blocking you from getting answers. My life is important enough where I feel that I need to advocate for myself. 3 phones calls missed with voicemails begging for help and nothing. What else am I supposed to do! I'm dying. I need to have to drive 30 minutes sick to your office and ask you to pick up the phone and call me back. If you were dying, and someone did that to you, would you not fight for yourself and your loved ones? The lack of empathy tells me everything. read more

Took 45 min for me to schedule an appointment over the phone, was given appointment day and time and upon arrival the appointment time changed to later and no prior warning from the office. Waiting for the Doctor for a hour and 20 min after a hearing test, he came in for 3 minutes, told me it's probably allergies (it wasn't) and charged me upwards to 1k. In order to get the "results" of anything they say you have to create an online portal just for this office. Yet you cannot pay on the online portal, you have to either mail in or do it over the phone. I also couldn't cancel my follow up appointment on the online portal so can't see a logical reason in creating one. Don't recommend! read more

I visited this office in March for a consultation because of a little concern. I have difficulties equalizing my left ear during onboarding an air plan since I ruptured the left eardrum in scuba many years ago. They took me to a hearing test which I never requested. That day, I paid my copay and confirmed that I didn't owe any additional payments. Almost four months later, I received a statement requesting another $30 copay. I got the antibiotics that I needed from a doctor that cares. Of course you need to examine in person so you can bill outrageous amounts. Also, everyone the icing on top of this pile of lies is when I went to pick up my nasal spray prescription refill from Dr Zuniga, that he gave me during my first visit, to be told by the pharmacist that he called and cancelled my refills!!! $2,000 visit and he was petty enough to call and cancel refills on nasal spray! I am a person that expects professional service from the front office to the back, and certainly by the medical staff. My personal practitioner, Emma, was wonderful. Very caring and provided highly skilled and professional service. The front office as well as the billing office was a completely different story. Firstly, it seemed as though each monthly visit there were new people running the front and read desks. (Monthly, as I had Lyric hearing aids). When there was a serious billing issue, I called multiple times and NEVER received a return call. When I went into their office for my final replacement of devices for the year I asked to speak with billing. In the past, when I required ear wax removal, it cost ~$100, $125. This time it cost me over $400. The billing person came down, would not make eye contact to me, and would not listen to my challenge. I have an HSA and the billing was not acceptable. Yet she continued to say that it wasn't sent to the proper insurance. I needed new billing and for the extra doctor consult bill to be removed. There was NO doctor consult, just 5 minutes of wax removal. This is, unfortunately, a core example of the office and leadership. Subsequently, I went to - ready for this... COSTCO, where I received superior service and a more detailed and accurate hearing test. Saving my money and receiving better quality service from COSTCO. read more

The doctor I saw was friendly but did not solve the issue I came in with and offered no follow up or alternative options. The next ENT I saw (a different location) solved my issue within a week and provided caring follow up and helpful advice. This place really does not care about their patients and that was very obvious. Then not have the courtesy to follow up on insurance that clearly covers a patient in need. I had a wonderful experience with this office from pre-op to surgery, and now post op! I saw Dr. Schrage for my surgery and Dr. Zuniga for my post op because Dr. Schrage had moved. The surgery went well and I can happily report that I can finally take deep breaths through my nose and I'm sleeping much better--it's amazing! All doctors and front office staff were professional, the MD's explained all procedures in detail to me, and everyone was so nice. I took my grandmother in for an ear exam this morning and everyone was so patient, helpful and eager to help. Our specialist Jillian was especially patient and went above and beyond to make sure my grandmother had everything we needed. I was so impressed and so grateful for the care, the consideration, how thorough she was in the entirety of our appointment. She made sure to explain the whole step by step process with the patience of a saint and showed immense care. Please save your money and do not go to this place!!!! Oh man! I have been waiting to make this review for a few months. (This is my second time posting this review as it seems someone has tried to have this removed by saying I meant to review another business. Just to confirm: this review is for Shohert Ear Associates.) This review is in regards to Dr. Carly Schrage the Newport Beach office manager, and the billing department of Shohet Ear Associates. Let's go over my experience with this office: 1. I have had Eustachian Tube Dysfunction for over a year and a half. It was diagnosed by an audiologist in San Diego. The doctor I saw, Carly Schrage, wrote that off and didn't believe I had it. I love it- the patient living with the diagnosed condition is automatically wrong because she doesn't believe it. She really shut down everything I was telling her about my health, as if she was insulted I knew a thing or two about my own body. I asked- isn't it concerning my tonsils and sinuses are inflamed?!- apparently not guys!! Apparently, feeling the pressure in your ears, as if you are deep sea scuba diving or on a plane before they pop is also completely normal! My ears haven't popped for a year and a half- but no worries because she said my sinuses were all good! Make sure you check #6 below- it gets better! 2. They do themselves a disservice by having screen on the walls showing what they're doing in the ears. I watched Dr. Carly Schrage only clean one ear and ignore the second that I COULD SEE was in need of cleaning to 1. Clean it and 2. See any infection or inflammation past the ear wax. Best part? I was charged for the cleaning of both ears and both the billing lady AND office manager said "well the doctor says she did so we're going off that" 3. After Dr. Carly Schrage told me that my symptoms weren't severe enough to treat and was writing me off, I start to ask questions like could it be my adenoids? There had to be some reason causing my misery. Reluctantly she looked in there with a camera and said that I have adenoids. 4. I was charged for a SURGERY for them looking up my nose. $600+. I called the billing department saying there must be a mistake. After explaining my side, the billing lady, admittedly, HUNG UP ON ME. 5. I asked to be put in contact with the manager- billing lady tells me she'll call me that day. No call. I called back a few days later- billing lady said that the manager had tried calling me. I had no calls from them. THEN I call and the manager had all of a sudden been on vacation the whole week and was going to get back to me next week?! Next week goes by- no call. The next week comes and she finally returns my call! Only to talk down to me and be of no remorse for the way I was treated in her office. I actually at one point had to ask her to stop speaking down to me like a child. 6. Now I'm paying monthly payments for this 30 second "SURGERY". After the appointment I received no write up, online portal access or plan for better health. AND GET THIS!!! The next doctor I went to, not an ENT, did a nasal swab on me and found MRSA. GOD DAMN MRSA IN MY SINUSES!!!!!!! But according to Dr. Carly Schrage- my symptoms were not significant enough to treat :) Moral of this review is that you risk your health going to a business like this. I would save your time and money and go elsewhere!! read more

It saddens me to write this review. My experience with the Shohet Ear Associates was beyond disappointing. Here are few examples: I was quoted prices for the aides they recommended and told that my insurance didn't cover hearing aides. I wasn't told that I needed to pay with cash or a check or if using a credit card I would be charged an additional 3.5% processing fee. During the fitting process, I informed the audiologist that the molds hurt my ear canal. She said it takes some time to adjust and wear them for a few days and "get used to it". The discomfort continued so I called the office and left a message requesting an appointment. No call back was received. I decided to get a second opinion where I learned that the aides were covered by my insurance saving me literally thousands of dollars. Also, I was provided with the option of having custom ear molds made to minimize the discomfort. My intention for writing this review is to prevent you from having the same experience I did. read more

I was referred to Shohet Ear Associates by my ENT. Unfortunately, Shohet Ear Associates did not confirm my insurance, and I assumed they were an in network provider. A month later I received a claim showing they were out of network. When I called them to better understand what happened, they not only got my address wrong, they also told me "sorry, we don't know why someone didn't confirm your insurance because we do not accept your insurance." Had I had known, I would have cancelled the appointment and gone to an in network provider. The good thing is they worked with me, so I ended up paying 50% of the bill. Still way more out of pocket than I would have spent with insurance. While Shohet Ear Associates may be specialists, they do not do their research and seem extremely unorganized. Got a recommendation to visit Shohet. I'll start by saying his staff seemed motivated and helpful. Jack Shohet on the other hand was not. My 2 and a half minute meeting with him cost me a few hundred dollars. I still have the same issues and nothing was resolved. The one thing I did receive from our encounter was an extreme sense of arrogance and lack of empathy. And no, I am not a disgruntled customer. Just calling it like it is. (If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck..) I was told there would be follow up appointments and possibly be given different Tx options. Only follow up I received was a bill in the mail. I have So much disappointment with Shohet Ear Associates. This place is very well recommended by other PMDs in the area. And that is the reason for this post, to WARN OTHERS! Do you research! Recommendations don't mean the best! Doc, I'm sure at one point in your career you weren't so complacent. It may be time to re-evaluate how you practice.
