I should have trusted the low reviews I saw for this place. Or noticed the toothless crowd of employees and customers upon entering. Or the unknown people who our server told us left after deciding they didn't want anything after being seated. Comically awful food. Unknown mystery meat that I thought was pork immediately upset my stomach, waited half an hour for them to bring out more chicken which was over cooked and mostly bone. Only other food they had was a salad bar and over ripe fruit. Servers were friendly but oblivious to the nasty food. Had to ask to get more napkins and multiple plates and cups were dirty with food still stuck to the back. Desert area had a single store bought cookie and two empty trays next to it. Cooler on the side had a couple star popsicles despite being labeled ice cream cups. Went to the bathroom on my way out due to my upset stomach. Flies were swarming the open pipe in the floor, toilet was in rough shape and barely managed to flush the liquid that came out of me after eating here. Do not mistake what appears to be edible food as edible food....unless you lack a palate for good food. I can't even call the mashed potatoes paste because I am sure the Kindergarten me has enjoyed that delicacy before and this was not that. I give this place 2 stars because the ladies working were always wiping down and sweeping. They keep a tidy food area. But when I walked in there were empty dirty tables and people standing around. I personally came for the salad bar but was told the lunch buffet was $9.99 including a drink. Hey sounds good. I went up for my salad and I had to pick through the iceberg lettuce. There were old black rotting leaves of green leaf lettuce mixed with the iceberg. I don't get it! So nasty! Also, I love cucumbers with my salad. Took one look at them and they looked translucent and milky! How anyone could look at that and think those are fit to serve is beyond me. I can not recommend this place for the buffet. My husband and I went there for dinner. What attracted us was the GIANT sign that said "Dine before 9, for 8.99" we were looking forward to an affordable meal.. We go in and the lady seats us and gets our drinks. I will say the pop tasted bad, but that could just be city water we aren't used to. She asked if we just wanted the buffet and I asked if there were other options and she started listing off random sandwiches. No menu??? So I just got the salad bar. The Mac and cheese and green beans were okay but the rest was pretty rough. They advertise ice cream so I asked the lady what they have- she said "there's some in the freezer by the buffet" so I went over and there was THREE single serve vanilla ice cream cups. After their billboards having giant sundaes on them, that being all they had was really disappointing. So two of us getting a pathetic buffet and a pop was $40. Will NOT be going back. read more

This Shoney's is truly one of the most amazing places to eat at. Shoney's is my favorite place to go to in summersville. I eat hear about 6-7 days a week for breakfast lunch and dinner.They have an excellent staff that is super fast. You just get the feeling of pure happiness and bliss, when you walk through that door. It's been awhile since I've eaten st Shoney's. Even sends the chain changed hands the food was sub-par. However I will have to say that this was much better. They have reworked the menu since my last visit and it's much better. They still have the buffet bar which my wife ordered and it was well stocked with fresh food. I had the shrimp and onion rings. First time to visit a shoney's ever and I was overall satisfied with my visit. The waitress (christy) was very kind and did a great job.we were seated and given our silverware very quickly, drinks also came at a very reasonable amount of time. A little pricey for what it was but not outrageous. Food was very delicious and came quick. I actually would give this place 4.5 stars. I don't know whose idea it was to come here, but they must have had it in for all of our stomachs. I asked about a buffet option for vegetarians, which they surprisingly have for $5.99 (the soup, salad, veggie and fruit bar), and was repeatedly asked (in a cute southern accent), "but you don't eat chicken, riiight? cuz we have people come order that, and then they get the chicken." We decided to eat here because it was right next to the hotel, I wish we had driven somewhere else, there were plenty of options. I've been to Shonsys many times in many states and this one is the worst. Sunday brunch buffet and almost everything looked dry and old. Could someone please stir the items so thsy're not crusted over? The apples in liquid were turning dark. Several items like chili are way foo salty. On checkout, I had to ask to be checked out after waiting a while. Then, the proverbial question "Was everything alright?", I said "No. Someone needs to stir the food. I've had bad experiences with other Shoney's Restaurants but I must admit, after eating at Shoney's today, I think I'm starting to change my mind! My family of 5 ate the breakfast buffet around 1030am and our waitress was quick to seat us and was such a friendly lady. She talked to all 3 of my kids like they were her best friends. We got our drinks and smaller silverware almost immediately. The breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious! Every time I went to get another plate, there was an employee checking for quality and quantity of all the dishes available. My husband said the steak strips were the best he has had for a while and even my kids cleaned their plates. I especially liked the scrambled eggs which were super fluffy and the hash browns. Today was also my son's birthday so 4 waitress' sang and gave him a free hot fudge cake. As he chowed down, the rest of my group got a dessert from the assortment of brownies, cakes and ice cream avalible at the dessert bar which were also fresh and plentiful. I wish all Shoney's Restaurants would follow this example! read more

Amongst several other unpleasant experiences were toilets that were clogged, with no flushing mechanism and when told, the management did nothing. I witnessed a lady drop the serving tongs for the spaghetti, then stick it straight back in. And the food tastes like plastic, so much so that I overheard this; "Where'd you find the ice cream?" I am typing this as I wait for someone to come over and pay attention to us. If you want someone to pay for their meal I highly suggest you pay attention to them while they are at the register. I've been working in the restaurant industry for 5 years and have never seen anything so blatantly disrespectful not only to the customer but to their business. Just passing through town and needed to sit down for a decent meal, not fast food. Wish we could've done the right thing and pay for our shit meal, didn't even complain about the crap pancakes to mention to get them off of bill. Any restaurant that takes more pride in the souvenirs and gifts located in the front of the store than service or quality shouldn't be in the industry. Shoney's company is good but this restaurant is the worst of the worst been there 3 times because I'm not the type of person to make an opinion of a place based off of one visit but every time I go the food is never hot some of it tastes spoiled. The last time I went there I asked the waitress if they could change the food out because it was all cold and you could tell it had been out for far longer than the recommended amount of time.
