I retained Shook & Stone in May 2025 for my SSDI case. In eight months of representation, I was never assigned an actual attorney -- only a case manager. They never submitted a single document to Social Security on my behalf. Every piece of evidence in my file was obtained by SSA through its own processes, not by my representatives. I am a retired Navy Master Chief with 29 years of service and a 100% VA disability rating. When I asked about getting an independent medical evaluation to complete RFC forms -- something any competent disability firm knows is necessary for veterans since the VA doesn't fill out SSA forms -- my case manager told me "we don't do that here." They sent records requests through their Arctrieval system that went unanswered and never told me. No pre-hearing brief. No medical source statements. No case strategy. Nothing. After I discovered all of this and confronted them, they withdrew -- but kept a fee reservation on my case, making it nearly impossible to find new representation before my hearing. They did zero work but still want to collect fees from any favorable outcome I achieve on my own. I would not recommend this firm for SSDI cases, especially for veterans. If you're a veteran filing for disability, find an attorney who understands VA-specific challenges and will actually advocate for you. read more

**WARNING DO NOT HIRE SHOOK & STONE * I hired this firm and they did win my workers comp case but the problem started after the settlement. Gabriel Czop was my attorney I called to retrieve my medical records, personal info etc. I told the attorney Gabriel that I wanted the actual paperwork, he was telling me that it was alot of paperwork and that it would be expensive to mail so he kept pushing the USB drive to me,"It would be better and easier to mail" I didn't want the USB drive, I wanted the paperwork work back so after him convincing me to take the USB, I ask him to send it FedEx, certified mail etc. and he agreed to. The case manager Cassandra Montoya sent emailed me to let me know it was ready for pickup. I explained to her I could drive because of my injury and I explained to her Gabriel agreed to send it FedEx, certified mail etc. So she said ok she was sending it. Days later I went to the mailbox and a Shook & Stone envelope was in the box ripped out like the processing machine ripped the USB out the envelope. I called Cassandra and she didn't answer, emailed she didn't answer so left a message stating I would be at the office first thing in the morning. Morning came and she didn't want to come out hiding like a coward. I sat around 45 minutes and then she comes out and hands me another USB ,no I'm sorry or anything. I told her what am I supposed to do about my personal information out there in someone else's hands. She had no answer but " I will tell the staff not to mail anything like that anymore. A month went by. I started to get alerts on my phone "Was this you", " Did you try to make this purchase "etc. Long story short someone has obtained my personal information because of this breach. Virginia, Ohio, California, Texas, Wyoming, New York. Home Depot's, smoke shops, restaurants, clothing stores etc. I sent the a demand letter to make this right. All I wanted them to do was to pay for Life Lock and they denied me. I took them to small claims and I ask for mediation. In mediation Gabriel was slick playing games trying to not take responsibility for the breach and said his boss didn't want to accept my offer of Life Lock for 3 to 5 years $1,437.26 total. The judge couldn't hear the case because he used to work for Shook & Stone. So he held it over for another judge. We went back to court about a week or two and the evidence was so strong and the judge knew something was wrong so he sent this case to a higher court, The Eighth District Court. The date hasn't come yet but because of their incompetence and negligence this has caused me great damage to my personal life credit etc. So please people don't hire the firm. After they take there cut of your settlement they don't care about you anymore matter of fact they never do you and i are only Dollar signs to them. The elderly one training the younger lady was so rude to me and my husband even laughing in a rude way towards us that we walked out. In my option I would avoid this law office. We signed up with them to represent us in an automobile injury accident when we were rear-ended sitting at a stop light. The person assigned to represent us was shortly after let go and no one was assigned to represent us. When you call you are not able to reach anyone except the receptionist who promises someone would call you back but they never do return your call. After six months we complained that no one is working on our case and if we did not receive a call back we would complain to the Bar Association. The receptionist said do what you need to do, so we did. A few days later we did get a call with them complaining we contacted the Bar Association. But they did get off their butts and filed a claim with the offending driver's insurance company. Months later we received a very low settlement and were done with them. They demanded we go to the Bar Association office and withdraw our complaint, which I refused to do. You cannot contact the person working your claim directly, you must leave your name and number with the receptionist and hope someone will return your call. I would NEVER recommend them. read more

Mr. Stone didn't back down from a very complicated case where I was injured at my place of employment, he protected my rights in my Workmen's Comp claim but also was able to file a construction claim due to negligence as well, and I received a seven figure settlement. I like alot of other reviewers feel shook and stone fell very short in helping me with my ssi claim. To begin with they didn't file my claim for ssi but filed for ssdi which was already determined I didn't qualify for. I received denial from SSA saying I could apply for ssi and had until Oct 31st of 2023 to appeal their decision. I called my caseworker left messages, texted them and didn't hear back From them. I called SSA in feb 2024 to check status and was told then my case was closed and was too late to file appeal. It took 1 year from original date i called shook and stone until my ssa app finally got filed. They rarely returned calls or texts, whenever i received anything from SSA i woukd reach out to shook and stone for help but they wouldnt respond so i was left to do all paperwork for SSA on my own, no help when Ssa wanted me to see their doctor, absolutely no help at all. When i got a message from shook and stone saying that because of holiday season they are having trouble reaching SSA to check status. So i messaged congressman horsfords office and they had SSA calling me next day to interview me and get info. 21 months it took start to finish, 2 weeks before i was approved i got letter from SSA saying shook and stone has submitted that they are representing me so from now on all correspondance will be sent to them.. funny i thought thats how it should have been from the beginning. I am so very disappointed with this law firm. My husband hired them to assist with going to court for a final shot at a social security disability claim. After a few months we called to see what the next steps will be for his case. We were told at that time, that my husband's case was not assigned to a case manager (paralegal?) or an attorney. We were told that we would be notified when he had a new case manager/ attorney working on his case. That was August, 2022. My husband has made numerous calls to Shook & Stone during this time and sent emails to them with no response! I went to website for help with filing an SSI request. They asked several questions which I took the time to detail so they had the info needed. Then the next day someone calls me and asks me "have you ever filed for SSI before?" I stated in my questionnaire I had 6 months ago & was denied. Then she asked if I was unemployed. I told them I was unemployed since April 2023. When I said it was apparent nobody did anything but pass my name onto her instead of giving her my info she said she was just verifying, but if that were true she would have prefaced with questions like "so you have filed before and were denied?" and "so you are currently unemployed?" But she backtracked & thot I was stupid. So irritating & unprofessional.
