Just a heads up.... Three of us and myself showed up for the BSO today at Shoot Straight. We all four had a bad experience, and which appears to be a new group of people running Shoot Straight. First off,it all stated less than a hour into our shoot with an attendant coming in and telling Paul that his target was to large for the distance he was shooting at. Attendant to him to run it out to 75 feet. Paul cashed it in and went to management. Next Allen was told that he had to lock tight the gun case when moving from firing area to counter. Not just closing the case. case has to be secured in both directions. He said we have always just closed the lid in each direction. Attendant said to lock both directions. Next Jim Cain was crouched down shooting my Ruger Break Down 22 pistol and an attendant came in and told him to straighten up and no squatting. Jim told him we always did this in the past. Attendant said just to straighten up. Next when I had case my Ruger break down into two pieces and had taken it back to the bench, I was told I could not open the case. I was going to put the lens caps back on the scope while was in case. No matter gun case cannot be opened again unless taken back to the firing line. Next I cannot remember if it was Allen or Paul, but a target they had laid down at the firing line got blown by the A/C onto the range, maybe 4 feet in. Either Allen or Paul used the range shell casing shovel to just reach out and drag it back in. Once again an attendant was right there and read the riot act. I never saw anything like it and you were monitored like NEVER before. Paul had gone to the manager and I went about 20 minutes later. He did not apologize but said it all could be rectified. Don, There was not one single employee in there that we knew. I told the manager this and he said a few had moved on. To make a very long story short we all vowed to never return to Shoot Straight. It was a most horrible range experience that any one of us has had. I just wanted to bring you up to date. Enough is enough. I told the manager about your experience with your lazer sight experience and he just nodded. So, the consensus is that our once a month BSO take place at Reload for the time being while looking for a suitable range closer to everybody. read more

I've shot at this range numerous times and never had a bad experience. I see a review of a guy who bought ammo at the range then complained about the price. That's your own fault. Then he goes on to say it wouldn't go in the "clip". That makes me automatically assume you have no idea what you're doing, if you can't differentiate between a clip and a magazine. Then there are reviews of people complaining about the staff not letting them do what they want. The rules are posted very clearly before you even walk onto the firing line. You have eyes, use them. I've always had fun at this range. My only complaint would be that it's hotter than my balls in Iraq. There are fans that blow air on the firing positions, but they just act as blast furnaces and shoot hot air right onto you. That's it. That's the only downside I can find. I've even bought ammo there, and found that it was cheaper than what I was buying online, and was Winchester, so it wasn't a cheapo brand. read more

Staff was nice and friendly. Very helpful and actually made me a great deal on a pistol. I'm from out of state and was in the area on vacation. Purchased a gun and had it shipped back home......that's when the fiasco started. Was supposed to be shipped out the beginning of the week and wasn't shipped until mid/end of the week. Called and was told 2 different stories about why shipping was delayed. Was told that holdup was on freight companies end. Found out firearm wasn't shipped until Thursday evening when I was told it was shipped on Tuesday originally and then old later the same day it shipped Wednesday because of the carrier not showing up on Tuesday. (Honesty would have gone a long way and I feel I was lied to by them just trying to cover their own) According to the tracking number given label wasn't even made until Thursday and want even picked up until end of day. Next my local gun store was called and notified by shoot straight staff that the firearm was apparently shipped in the incorrect box. So now I have to wait even longer because I won't have the ability to shoot my firearm until I have all the correct equipment to do so. Again staff was nice, friendly, helpful, and willing to make a sale. The reason for only 3 starts is because of the problems with getting it home. So if buying out of state, buyers beware!!! read more

My New Years Resolution was only to say positive things. "Ladies shoot free"admission price...Grandma always said "you get what you pay for". Oh Gram! When you ask for the person who helped you last week, they have "moved on to other opportunities". It must be fulfilling to know you have been a stepping stone in so many careers. I personally have observed this talented staff as they have worked several stations of a GUN store and RANGE at once. Shorting range is convenient and always a great experience. The store and range are very clean and professional. I really like Shoot Straight. I have always found their people to be very knowledgeable and friendly. I've only been there to use their range and I visit, typically, only every few months when I visit the area on business. My only complaint - and this is the sole reason for my 4-star rating instead of 5 - is the fact that I find it uncomfortably warm. It's not a terribly big deal since I always wear old clothes when shooting. But I end up being sweaty after an hour of shooting. One other range in the area keeps it very cool at their firing lines. I'd love to see Shoot Straight drop their thermostat a few degrees. Although I've never purchased anything there, they have a nice selection of firearms including some of the high-end 1911's. This new building and location are fantastic! The staff can be a little bit overzealous, and sometimes seem like teenagers on a power trip - but in all reality - they need to be that way in some circumstances. The range layout makes getting to a stall easy, the policy to not allow reloaded bullets makes me feel safer, and the staff are extremely safety conscious. The range itself is nice but literally all the products/accessories are over priced. For example, was at the Gun show in Tampa yesterday and this smug and smartassed associate "swore and promised" that I would not find this gun cheaper than what he was going to offer it at..which he swore was at cost...($675 for a browning 1911 .380 black label)...welp, found it brand new about an hour and a half later for $550...?hmm. He then proceeded to tell me that he was an expert at appraising used firearms and that mine was pretty old, had "a ton of rounds run through it and wasn't well kept". The pistol was purchased less than a month ago, had been taken out of the box twice (zero scratches or scuffs) and had less than 100 rounds put through it. Now that sounds like a worn out firearm if I do say... I understand people have to make a living in sales, considering I'm in the same profession but damn. There's no need to plainly lie and insult your customers and then play stupid with us like we know absolutely nothing. Can honesty say I will never go back to Shoot Straight, much less recommend anyone to go there for anything other than using their range since all of the other ranges around are packed. I bought a Colt 45 Gold Cup at the gun show and had to go to Shoot Straight to pick up the weapon. The staff was courteous and very thorough with the transfer process. I was impressed with their professionalism. There is no chance for any mistakes with their process. Looking around the store, I was impressed with their inventory. Their selection is wide and their knowledge is impressive. Their prices are somewhat high but their sale items are reasonable. Usually with a gun store you can get a discount on the firearm. Only giving shoot straight a 1 star but this is because of their employee Gary L. He is not helping the company by flat out ignoring customers who come in the store because of their big sale they have been promoting for the last 2 weeks. Gary was unlocking the alarm cable for a customer who just bought a pistol, wife and I said we would also like to buy one, 20 minutes later the salesman behind the counter to the right as you walk in asked if I needed any help, probably noticed me pacing waiting for Gary to come help us next. NOPE. He ignored us and never returned. Saw him probably 20 minutes later at the sales counter to the right as you walk in. All employees have one of these associates and we found him. There are a lot of options in Pinellas county for purchasing firearms and in general I have been very satisfied but would rate this as one of my top choices. As a retired NY police officer I have done tons of shooting. So I was excited to shoot at this range. I went on April 8 2017 at 2:19 pm receipt #98773. I bought range time, 1 box 40 cal, 1 box 32 cal and 2 targets. Total cost 75.50...expensive in my book. The 32 ammo was defective. It would not even enter into my clip. I asked for pro help and employee was very helpful and agreed this ammo does not fit your gun. I fully expected a full refund since ammo was not used and could not be inserted into. The Manager refused to refund my $20 purchase price. He gladly kept the box of ammo probably to be sold to the next sucker like I was. Its places like this selling a defective product that would prevent me from a recommendation. read more

I have been to this location a couple of times and have been disappointed.They have a great inventory of firearms but there are no bargains.The best thing they have going is their indoor range which is the only one in this area.I recently took an old S&W revolver there to see if I could get a trade in towards a new 9mm. They just gave it a cursory look and said they weren't interested.The guy waiting on me was not very friendly and walked away.I took the same weapon down the street to Castle Keep gun shop and they traded me even for a brand new Ruger American 9mm and through in an extra magazine.They advised me that the gun I was trading was a very rare collectible model they researched on line.Shoot Straight didn't give me the courtesy of checking it out.I have since bought several weapons from Castle Keep and their prices have always been lower then Shoot Straight. read more

First time in today. Went there for two purposes. To pickup a gun case and some mags. and to see what the place was like to train my wife and kids on firearm safety. Ok, the good things are that the store is very nice, neat and clean. Large assortment of products. The bad is a doggone attitude. I just got a case and was placing it on the stand by the register to open the case to throw the magazines in. In a nanosecond the guy told me to move it off the counter that they have the bleeping register by. Ok, I pickup my case, my mags, my receipt in an encumbered jumble and look to move out of the place. I take 2 steps and the dude stops me again and says he wants to tie a bag onto the case so his boss knows I am not stealing it. I am holding the &^%$ing receipt, along with a gun case, 2 effing 223 mags, which you wouldn't give me 2 seconds to organize so I could move out smartly, or God forbid, help me organize. Then the move is to tie a plastic bag for inventory control? With all of the security and cameras around the place? Nonsense, the guy saw I was struggling with carrying all of this stuff and wanted to get one last dig in before I left. This was all about the "check." I spent a fair amount of time at Bragg and I do NOT need a "butt sniff" at this stage of my life. I just want to be treated decently, get some sound training for my family, and pick up some ammo, sights, range time and cleaning supplies . The expectation that I am really not there to be screwed with is something that seems to escape these people. Not going back. The only reason this is two stars is because it is clear that someone takes a lot of pride in the place, but the people running this are not friendly or helpful. It really deserves a one star. Odd thing was that there was no real reason for any of this. I am now going out of my way to avoid the place. To make that more concrete for you, that is about 10K in revenue that you guys lost over the next few years, for no reason at all. read more

Visited new store 2 days ago to use the firing range and look around for new equipment. My friend and I (He is new to guns) went to desk to sign up for range usage. Started out with tall elder grey headed man, finished up with a very nice lady doing our "Shake Down" She was very nice during the whole ordeal, cant say as much for gentleman. He was very snappy with his language about most any thing at the desk. Finally went into range and was setting up my weapons. My old friend from the desk came in and started ratting off commands about what to do and not to do. I asked for more lighting so I could see how to load my clips, he said "That's it" and walked away. I guess my real complaint is that his attitude was terrible, and he didn't seem to care. I have made purchases in your old store as well as this one, no problems. As for range safety, I know how important it is. My first introduction to weapons was the M1 rifle, which I qualified on in 1956, and the following year on the 45 cal pistol. I know the above means nothing to you, but I do have some information on range safety and how to talk to people. Thanks for your time. read more

I had guests from out of country and they were so "taken back" that they didn't want to go shooting there. Needless to say we left, and I will NEVER come back or recommend this place. Nice staff, however you have to jump through hoops of fire to rent a gun. There is one weapon I am interested in getting but want to try it first before committing. At this place they require you to become a member $40, have a concealed carry permit (which I have), and buy a box of their ammunition for the rental $11. So when all is said and done, they require you to pay $51 dollars just to shoot a few rounds through a gun to see if you like it or not. That's too extreme. I'll just go back to my other range where they don't have so many requirements. Good luck to future renters. Save your money. read more

I had a highly disrespectful experience with an employee here. My significant other and I were on vacation and decided to check out a gun range for fun. I never been to a gun range so we went here mainly seeking information. We got on line where it states "gun range check in". 2 employees behind the counter and a line of people in order. The first employee helps everyone in front of us and departs from the counter when it was our turn without an "excuse me" or "be right back." (I didn't think anything of it). We continued to stand online until other patrons started to line up behind us. The first employee returns and begins helping every one else behind us. He didn't make eye contact with us once even though we were face to face by the register. I patiently waited online for almost 20mins before a second employee provided me with the info I needed. I was so insulted that I reached out to the manager and informed him that his employee was purposely not helping me. I hope this biased employee is reprimanded because that type of attitude is not tolerated in ANY business establishment. He needs to leave his personal views at home because it's gonna cost his boss $$$. read more

Cons: Not too good of a place, can't take out your guns at the table, have to be in the booth (good luck trying to fiddle with your gun bag on the super small 6" shooting table. Staff search your bags for reloaded/re manufactured rounds. Don't allow professionally re manufactured rounds. Air is very dirty. At least 2 lanes didn't work. (Target won't move back) Can't move guns between lanes. Pros: Cheapest place around to shoot. Free eye protection and ear muff rentals. read more

We use the range approximately once per week. The staff are all extremely professional and very helpful. There is good air circulation within the range itself. It's true the ammo is priced high, but many firearms are priced as low as can be found, on line or in gun shops. We have purchased 7 guns from Shoot Straight in the past and all at a terrific price. read more
