I hate to see all the bad reviews and want to say something. I've noticed a trend that shooting ranges, especially indoor ones, have their share of vocal complainers. I'm not sure what they are expecting but gun ranges are not elegant, fancy or going to cater to your every need and whim. They are normally run by an old grumpy Veteran and w a staff that is normally very direct, stern and short bc they are dealing w life and death.. they can come across as rude, but it's not meant to normally. It's the fact they're often dealing with not smart people, not used to shooting firearms, and are casually holding things that kill people.. not your favorite martini. Keep all that in mind and don't expect them to baby you. First, this IS NOT the best range for first time shooters. Can you do it, sure, ideal- no. Second, I love this little range. It's a small, back of the neighborhood type of place. Only 18 yards or so. It's not fancy and only 5 or 6 lanes.. They expect you to know what you're doing; get in, do your thing, use standard firearm protocol for ranges, then get out. The owner has always been nice to me, as w the staff. read more

I'm honestly confused how this place has over 4 stars. If I could, I wouldn't even give it one. Before trusting the glowing 5-star reviews (likely from friends and family), I'd highly recommend reading the real 1-star reviews from actual customers. We even dealt with the OWNER, who was the rudest of them all. The second we arrived, they asked where we were from. We brushed it off as small talk, but looking back, it felt like judgment. We were a large bridal party with both experienced and new shooters. Since this is advertised as a TRAINING CENTER, we expected the staff to be welcoming toward beginners, review safety, and provide proper instruction. Especially since we had called ahead, explained it was for a bridal party, and were told they were "excited to have us." No mention was made about experience being an issue. Upon signing the liability waiver, the owner handed me a Ruger magazine (even after we said we were more familiar with Glock). He gave us five seconds to load it (even after we explained we usually use a tool because of our nails) before yanking it back, saying he had "seen enough," and accusing us of lying about our shooting experience. At that point, everyone was uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. When we told them, the owner yelled that he'd be happy to take our money but didn't want us shooting there anyway. As we walked out, he and his staff stood at the window and stared at us until we drove away. Truly, this was the most uncomfortable and unnerving experience I've ever had at a gun range and we are members at multiple ranges in our home state... I highly encourage. You read the one star reviews of people having ricochet bullets hit their hands and they begin bleeding and need to go to the ER and the owners didn't care. Horrible service. we came with a party for a friends wedding weekend, just as a fun activity to do, and they definitely judged us all as soon as we walked in. didn't go over the basic gun rules, but instead belittled everyone and continuously questioned if we've ever "actually" shot a gun before. he had 2 of us load a mag. couldn't do it in like 10 seconds, and he took it away and said i've seen enough. sorry my family uses up to date tools that make it quicker, and have newer guns than what was handed to me. i wish our boyfriends / husbands were there with us to see what happened because they woulda lost their minds at the disrespect and judgement. we just walked out because we were super uncomfortable, the workers continuing to talk about us as we're walking out. not to mention the bride to be ended up in tears. good job guys. read more

Used the shooting range to practice shooting with my son. They have a kiosk that allows you to seamlessly sign and get checked in. handguns and long guns accepted! The staff was able to answer questions prior to entering the actual range. You can bring your own firearm or rent firearms from them. read more

The rep at front desk was incredibly rude. I felt unwelcomed and like she was judging me and my son. She made assumptions was catty and rude comments before even asking questions. We will not ever come back. read more

My husband and I got our CHL today. Joe was an incredible teacher. He is a veteran and his 40 year experience in the police force gave him incredible real life stories and scenarios that relate to circumstances Gun owners may find themselves in. His knowledge is truly great. We both left feeling way more confident handling our guns and more knowledgeable about the laws and regulations. We will be back to practice our shooting in their range. Elaine was the absolute sweetest and made us feel so welcome and their dog Jed was there too! He provided us with snuggles and moral support. Christmas 2024 my son purchased a gift certificate for me to get my CHL from Shooting Sports & Training Center. unfortunately, I accidentally stuck the gift card in with my Christmas decorations. When I found the gift card last week I noticed it was only good until June 2024. I was very surprised it wasn't good for at least a year. Anyway, I called the owner and explained what happened and asked if he would honor it and he said NO. I understand it's my fault for misplacing the gift card however, you would think they'd try to work with a customer. I'm disappointed because my son has always supported this small business and recommended it to friends and all the owner could say was "NO". I think it would have been reason able for him to deduct $25.00 or even $50.00, but just a "NO". Also, if the cost of the class had increased since June 2024 I would expect to have to pay the difference, but to not work with me at all is not good customer service and just plain bad business. My younger son was planning on getting his CHL class there in January, but not now. So we are both off to get our CHL somewhere else. read more

The good things are that it's a nice range, it's close to home, and the daughter is very nice. And you can rent guns from them. I took the CHL class and the Handgun class here. I want to first thank Joe for this service to our community and the Houston community, however, be prepared to hear terrible and disturbing stories from him. He uses it as like a reference but it wasn't what I was there to hear, so be prepared. I was told from the wife that they recommended the handgun class instead of just the CHL, in my options that handgun class was a waste of money because, in my CHL class, some ppl in the group hadn't taken the handgun and they got the same thing in the CHL class so, don't see a use in spending the $106 for the handgun class when you'd just get it in the CHL. We are a safety first family and my favorite thing about this range is their focus on gun safety. They monitor the lanes while the lanes are occupied and are quick to offer assistance and safety tips. Their rates are great and the overall experience is top notch. Very nice folks running the establishment. It's a small indoor range without all the gimmicks. A manual lever brings the target closer or further from you. Mick did a good job explaining how it works. I took 1 star off because they don't allow standard .223 ammo although it is stated on their site. But if you're someone like me with a healthy amount of .223 ammo, you're out of luck. read more

Great range. Facility has 6 lanes out to 15yrds maybe more, but markers out to 15yrds. No steel ammo, but you can rapid fire. Seems like a family owned place. Went out with my younger brother and father; Joe was very friendly to the youngest and made him excited to shoot. They sell ammo and firearms, but their selection is limited. They also have a lot of cool collector pieces on display for when you're waiting on a lane. Will be visiting again. read more

Joe has a presence that is undeniable. He commands your attention and sets expectations for his class as well as when in the shooting lanes. He is firm, but KIND ! His demeanor and teaching style is stellar - exactly what a male or female should appreciate. I certainly do. Joe TRULY cares about his students and guests. He is also a no nonsense kind of guy. This is an asset in a gun place! He does not rush and makes sure you are confident and skilled with a gun. He has so many personal experiences with firearms that he shares and makes the class interesting. I walked in afraid of semi-automatic guns and after my training with Joe, bought a Sig Hauer 380 semi automatic! I love it, I feel secure, confident, and protected now. Unfortunately, an instructor at a different CHL Shooting Range in Spring , Tex insisted that a heavy 9mm gun was the one for her! It is too big, difficult to load, and too much recoil. Very disappointed with the owner of this range. Eight of us decided to take CHL class from someone who would come to our office for convenience and cost. One of our people saw the CHL trainers truck while we were at range and he approached the instructor. The owner of Shooting Sports finds out and on the day we are to shoot for our CHL he won't let us shoot and makes a huge scene. Very unprofessional. As a fellow business man and avid shooter who had been there three times previously and had every intention of going there once a week that was a bad business decision of the owner. He lost eight customers in 15 minutes!!! Considering the type of business he runs I would think his temperament and judgement should be a little more stable than that!! read more

Drove by Saturday and checked the place out with my daughter. Got a tour of the place and talked to the Owner and staff. Great people. Sunday I went out there and did some shooting minus my daughter. The remembered me from the previous days visit and even asked where my daughter was. Did the necessary paper work and went out to my lane. The place is nice. I didn't have problems with the lighting as mentioned in another review. When I finished up the staff how I did and Joe even gave me some tips for next time. Next trip my daughter will be going so she can check out a Sig rental they just added. Pricewise they're pretty good. Seems to be inline with other places I've spot checked on the web in Houston. I previously visited another range in the area and was kind of disappointed. It was dark, hot, and dirty. As a new gun owner, I found my first experience left me looking for another place to go. I found Shooting Sports and Training Center while looking for another one closer to me. From the second I walked in the door, I felt extremely welcomed. Range fees were explained in detail, and the woman who met me when I walked in explained the range rules, and gave me a brief history of the facility. The owner, Joe, was present. He answered all of my questions in detail. The range was well lit and bright, the deck was clean, and best of all; the air conditioning was working! As I was leaving the employees shook my hand and invited me back soon; and I plan to take them up on that many, many more times. Highly recommend this range. read more

One Sunday my wife wanted to practice for here LTC class.. We went to Shooting Sports and Training Centers of Texas. Walked up to the counter and I informed the lady that only my wife would be shooting and I was only going to watch. She said you still have to pay $15.75 each ($31.50) if you are here. I again informed the lady I was not going to shoot that only my wife was going to shoot. The lady again stated you're here you have to pay a range fee. I informed the lady we would leave and go somewhere else. The lady then called out to another lady near by and said you need to come over and deal with these two. The other lady came over and asked what was the problem. I stated no problem we are leaving, the other lady wanted me to pay a second $15.75 range fee to watch my wife shoot. The second lady stated that's right if you are here you have to pay a range fee. I stated that only my wife was going to shoot and I was not going to shoot only watch her shoot. The second lady again stated that I still had to pay a range fee if I was there.. I informed her that I was not going to pay a range fee to watch someone shoot that we were leaving and going to Hot Wells shooting range. As we were walking towards the front door, the second lady called out to Joe who was standing near the front door and said Joe you need to have word with these two people here. As we walked by Joe he asked what was the problem. I stated that there was no problem we were leaving because his employees tried to charge me a range fee along my wife's range fee just to watch her shoot. Joe stated that's right if you're here you have to pay a range fee. I stated I was not going to pay a range fee just to watch someone shoot that we were leaving to go to Hot Wells shooting range. I guess Joe had to have the last word in this incident and stated yes you two need to leave now. We went to Hot Wells shooting range where we paid only one range fee of only $10.00 instead of the $31.50 ($15.75 X 2) they tried to charge us at Shooting Sports and Training Centers. Staff at Hot Wells extremely polite and helpful. By the way LTC class at Hot Wells is only $75 per person compared to $125.00 per person at Shooting Sports and Training Centers of Texas. read more
