If I could post a zero star review, I would. Let me explain..... I've been coming to American Shooting Centers for clays and range time for 25+ years, and until last Friday (12/11/25) around 11:30 a.m., it was a place I regularly recommended. We visited as a family across three generations: a grandfather (Navy veteran and lifelong East Texas hunter), his two sons, and his grandson who was learning to shoot his deer rifle. For roughly the first 1 hour and 45 minutes, everything was fine--one range officer on duty was professional, helpful, and encouraging. As we were wrapping up to head to the pistol range, a different range officer took over and the tone changed abruptly. He repeatedly reprimanded the Navy veteran in a confrontational, in-your-face manner over muzzle angle while the rifle was being carried away from the bench to be cased/put away. From my perspective, the muzzle was angled upward (not level or toward others), but not perfectly vertical. Even if the officer believed it needed correction, the delivery was unnecessarily aggressive. A few minutes later, as we were packing to leave, the officer escalated again and told the veteran he could not walk to his car with his gear until the "line was hot again," because the range was in ceasefire. When I reviewed ASC's posted rules afterward, I could not find anything stating that access to/from the shooting area is restricted during ceasefire in that way. Bottom line: the safety expectations may be valid, but the way they were enforced--especially toward an older customer and veteran--was disrespectful and ruined the experience. Our family won't be returning, and I can't recommend the range based on this incident. read more

I had so much fun. I like this place is outdoors. Such a huge place as they had different sections for different types of shooting. You only pay for your annual membership of $5. Unless you shooting clays, then you have to buy theirs. You cannot bring your own. The staff was nice at both areas of check-in. They go over the rules and expectations if you are new. We even something wrong at one point, but they are respectful when correcting you. We plan to come back. I bet it's very nice in the fall. read more

I want to start off by saying I've been going to this range for years and for the past couple visits there has been very rude, disrespectful, and childish range officers. I cannot speak for all of them, however most of them have a power trip. I will not be returning to this range anymore. I would highly recommend going to brazos river sportsman's club. I just called to ask a few questions: - How many people per lane - Cost per person. The guy that answered the phone felt the need to lecture me on the difference between shooting positions and firing lanes. I simply asked how many shooters per firing lane and how much per shooter. He then said that if I had questions that I should come to the range. I don't know if this character was an employee, but his customer service left a lot to be desired. If you're a shooter imagine what his patience would be on a live range. If you're the owner, I recommend that you do a better job of deciding who has first contact with your potential customers. Left a review last year. Figured I'd do a new one rather than update. This is specifically for the sporting clay's course. The pricing has gone up since then. My group was the second group on the blue course. There were eleven stations that were supposed to be active. Five of them had malfunctioning throwers. You'd think that someone would check the throwers before they open the place up. I'm at a loss other than to say that is piss poor management and they obviously don't give a crap about it. read more

Seems this place has a culture of being rude to paying customers. I experienced the same on a recent trip with my family. The range officer completely ruined the trip by yelling and belittling my father - a Navy veteran and lifelong hunter. Seems they get off on that kind of thing at American Shooting Center. There are so many comments about this, but no change. After attending so many clay shoot fundraisers, I'll never go back and encourage companies looking to host a clay shoot not to associate with this organization. read more

Well used, Efficient and safe. Staff work hard to ensure safety measures are in place and strictly applied. Sometimes this may come across as bossiness but I think it's important. I wish the elevator to the shop floor was operational- I find the steps a bit of a struggle. read more

I have learned there is a great deal of respect among gun owners and I believe practicing is not only necessary if you are a gun owner (and a novice like I am), but it can also be therapeutic. I have not been to this place since before the flood of the area, and just now going back to use the facility recently. The staff and the club house have change of course, but it looks a lot better than before, and the staff were very friendly just many rules and regulation have been changed. After checking in with the front desk and got my Vet discount which is a plus and the staff go over all the rules and regulations with us, then we are off to the range. The range is where the one star fell off it would have been a five-star rating till this point. The setup is still the same as before the flood, the bench and the shooting seats are as old as the times before that never did get upgraded or replace? The So-called Range Marshall staff is not so friendly and not so courteous. The place just looks runed down and with the kids that is running as a range marshal, not so good. The boards where you would tack your target is all broken and if you don't have their size of target to tack in the board of what is leave of the board, then you are not able to use your own target. You have to buy their target before you can shoot, but to be fair they give you a free target to start with. The field where you hve to walk out to hang the target is over gorn with long weeds and muddy. So, after a few days of rain, and you happen to go out there to hone your skill, make sure you wear rain boots or be prepared to wash your shoes, because it will be muddy. Would I go back? Sure, I would go back, just because they have a long-range shooting area and shotgun area, and they do have the facility for me to sight my scope in for the range that I need. But if they fix all the other problem area it would be a great place to visit and shoot for the day. read more

Very bad experience on 9/29/24. I went with a few friends to enjoy and have fun. I have been going for several years. On the range a range officer by the name of Shawn rudely walked up to me and said your not following the rules by shooting rapid fire. I told him I'm not as I'm pausing between shots. I'm even a licensed state instructor. I even offered to apologize however Shawn continued to be rude and said you can't follow the rules and kicked me out. He even threatened to call the police if I don't leave. I got a refund from the office and called the owner Ed. Never going back to this place again customer service sucks and Shawn is a bully tyrant! Stay away from this place and go somewhere else more professional. read more

I'm going to say I rated this place 3 stars because of great experiences on the long ranges away from the tyrant Range Officers. Apparently, I was putting my suppressor on wrong today, and the gun pointed up toward the ceiling instead of "down range" as I attached it. I thought the dude was going to stroke. Then walking to the parking lot, if your barrel isn't at 90 degrees in the air, not 75-80 degrees upward, 90 degrees only, you're not being safe. Today 03-22-2025's experience was terrible. Things run so much better, when you're with a group of shooters and allowed to police yourselves. I was there today, and I'll not go back and use the 100 or 50 yard range. If you're an actual shooter just avoid the ridiculousness on the 50 & 100 yard ranges and get some longer range time from 200-600yds. The staff inside are cool, no issues there, but the ignoramuses shooting on the 100yd are maddening. They walk out and set-up a target on top of yours and claim the bench, no matter your target has not a single shot through it yet and you're walking up to the bench. I guess stupid people exist in every aspect of life. Oh well. It's easy to avoid those issues, just go shoot where they'll never be... on a the side of the range that's 200+ yards. read more

We came out shooting clay! So much fun my first time with claw so everyone destroyed me in scores. Lots of space outdoors, came on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded, hardly had to wait for any spots. There's about 10 stations where there different directions for clays to come out... you don't need ear muffs if you do clay, ear plugs will be enough for clay. They sell shirts that have padded R shoulder parts - just in case you call it over early cuz your shoulder can't handle anymore lol. The places itself as the other review read are yes older and outdated, but.... Dude you're outside shooting, so just don't expect like state of the art facility lol it's gonna be fine. They say cheaper for future visits, man y'all starting off the wrong foot and making me not want to come back. 2 individuals who are unfriendly and only explain their "rules" once. Don't bother to tell you they charge for eye and ear protection so you'll see that charge. EVERY RANGE in the world comes with free eyes and ears when you pay a lane fee, cmon!! Your lane fee comes with 1 target but they will always say to get a few more. Little do you know they're $5 a piece when academy has a stack of 20 for the same price. $25 "pistol" range fee idk if it's different for AR since my friend checked that one in when we heard they charged per gun. Ridiculous. $10 steel charge to shoot it. If you don't have the bracelet you can't shoot steel. If there is people hogging the station you can't shoot steel. Good luck, first come first serve. Cease fire occurs every 30 min. 5 min break to put up new targets. Safety is number 1, and by far the best thing in this range. They over charged my friend for including me in his bill. Then blatantly went ahead and charged me right after him since I was in line behind him. Didn't bother to say hey man he's fine since I charged your friend. Everything in the shop Is insanely over priced. Not to mention the looks they give you if you ask to see something from the glass case. Absolute no rapid fire in premises which absolutely sucked when it's outdoor and you want to mag dump on a bad day. INSTEAD, go to TOP GUN in Houston and let yourself dump mags quickly. DONT EVER buy ammo there, man they're still stuck in 2020 prices or something. 1.Come prepared with targets since they only give you 1 and charge $5 / ea 2.Ammo 3.bring Eye + Ear protection. I have been to this range a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are really kind and helpful. They make it safe for everyone in their process with clear audible directions and staff readily available to help and provide direction. The cost is reasonable. Be sure to bring your own ear plugs and eye protection because those are required. If you don't have your own you can buy them here but more expensive than you can get elsewhere. When you first arrive go to the portable building in the center to register and pay. After you register once they will give you a card that you use to check in with for future visits. It's a simple and clear process. After you get your target you take your gun and go to the range. Listen for the audio prompts telling you when you can go down range to set up your target. They have staplers you can use to do that. If it rains, it gets really really muddy so bring boots or shoes that can get messed up. Trust me on this. It's nasty when it's wet or raining. read more

I've used the sporting clays, rifle, and pistol ranges, as well as the onsite pro shop. I've always found the employees to be friendly and helpful. The sporting clays ranges have something for everyone, from beginner to master class shooters. There is a nice touch that they have water bottles in insulated coolers for shooters around the course. There isn't a lot of terrain, but they creatively use what they've got. The 4 star rating is due to issues with the throwers and electronics I've encountered when visiting. That said, they are also good about fixing issues once someone notifies them of the problem. read more

I got to shoot my new o/u shotgun today.( 10-1-23) The gun is great. The range has changed a lot since the last time I was there. I shot 2 rounds with a group I asked if I could join and it was great. We shared the control device so everyome could concerntrate on shooting. When they left I had 2 tokens to shoot. I self pulled for one which was a disaster.There were no trappers so I decided to return one coin...sorry no returns and still no trapers.( If I had wanted to self check out I would have gone to Walmart.) Every employee I talked to had that I dont give a shit attitude so now... I ...have that I dont give a shit attitude. A keychain shooter card is a must. Looking you up on the computer with a phone number must be very costly for the business, with gas prices being so high, so they charge $5 to make you get another shooter card. Also $5 for paper targets, so bring your own. They won't tell you that unless you ask what the total bill consists of, which seems to annoy them. read more

I have to admit, not the best place to learn how to shoot but if you are knowledgable and want a bit of challenge.. I definitely recommend this place. 6 years later and this place still sucks. Range officers there don't know how to diagnose simple AR issues and had to ask other shooters around the person with an issue. With all the new gun owners in these times new shooters look to the ROs for direction. It's literally the most common weapon platform, you should know how to diagnose a gas issue and know how to clear a malfunction. They also say they close at 6, but that only means if you already were there prior to 4:30-5pm. Otherwise they look at you through the door like you're crazy for wanting to be there during their operational hours. Overpriced, charges per gun, you can't shoot a 10/22 charger at the steel range because it's a rifle...even though it's a pistol. Unless you're friends with the ROs, then you can shoot a .45 pcc at steel all day and never leave the steel targets for hours or let anyone else go. This place is only open because it's the only outdoor range that isn't an hour away and it has a range longer than 25yards. Great place if you're looking to buy overpriced parts, pay too much for ammo and an entry fee, and have brass vultures stand over you not even waiting for it to cool off before swiping them. Again, the ONLY redeeming quality is the ability to shoot long-ish range. read more

Used to be my go to for sighting in my AK and shotgun. Ever since COVID the prices and attitude have gone up beyond what I find baseline for a range. Is there a good reason for these changes? Probably, but I've found two other ranges that are half as much and friendly as all hell. I'd rather give them my business, sad to say. Safety is paramount here, range wells themselves are kept solid and secure. Hot and cold times are reasonable. If not for the price and strangely aggressive attitude of some employees I'd still be using my membership card and singing their praises. Sorry guys, I'll stop in again some time but times are tough and I can't justify paying y'all 50$ to shoot my own guns. read more

Unfortunately, if you want to shoot long range, this is your only local option. Pet peeve - Nickel and diming with the "shooter card". Most unnecessary thing I've ever seen. Not 1 other range requires you to have one. I'm a regular and they charged me $2 for a replacement card because I forgot mines. Really? Price is per gun which can add up, with that said, you're not limited by time like most ranges. 30 mins or 3 hours = same price. I like that I'm not being rushed to shoot. Mud when walking to your 50+ yard targets... No $#!+, it's located in the barker reservoir, what do you expect? Bring your boots, expect to get a little dirty, or go when it hasn't rained in a few days.
