They also had a food truck on site, which they seem to have most Saturday evenings now. We didn't partake as we had eaten a big lunch and had dinner plans. I don't think they had any guest taps that day as far as I could tell, but didn't specifically ask. You had the option of one of their 6 brews. They have a small window area in the covered tent which connects to the house where you can order. Sadly, they didn't have anything that really spoke to me, but I settled on the White Cap American while my husband ordered the High Water IPA. Neither of us were particularly impressed with the beers. However, there was a good number of people, imagine mostly locals, enjoying so maybe it was just personal taste. The property is very attractive, so we enjoyed getting out a bit somewhere local none the less.

The back area is very basic, but really, i cant imagine you come here to sit outside. If you want to do that, get some beers to go and go sit on the beach! Overall, I need to come back and try a few more things, but I would definitely return. Great place in Atlantic beach to have a drink!

Shortway Brewing Co. is a bit of a hidden gem in the Carteret County rough. Found out about them after seeing their Stout on tap at another location. 5bbl brewery with eleven styles on tap as of this writing. Clean interior, knowledgeable staff. Pleasantly surprised to find that one of the brewers was serving at the counter. It's nice to deal with someone who knows what they were talking about beerwise. The beers I tried (flight of porter, red, wheat and IPA and pint of smoky brown) exceeded my expectations from a relatively new startup brewery. Nothing I would call best-of-the-best but I would say they are beyond what other local spots are offering in terms of house brews (though the stout I had days earlier comes pretty close). No immediate food on or near the premises, but another group had pizzas delivered right to the taproom. I was informed that any food you'd like to have delivered or carried in is cool with them. Someone mentioned a restaurant moving into the strip but was not yet open as of this review. Dog and kid friendly, even had a small play area where kids can play with a few toys or coloring books. Had an outdoor seating area through the back of the building too, but didn't get to enjoy it with the recent snow in the area. Will need to come back after it warms up. No, the beer isn't free. It's not expensive either. If you need a dozen free samples to figure out if you like something then I'd question your connoisseurship. Man up and get a flight. Bottled water IS free for everyone, DD or otherwise. If this is a recent change I would impress upon the earlier reviewer to revisit and update their review. Overall I get the impression that this is a new and still growing operation. Even so, they are definitely on the right track in terms of beer quality and customer service. I wouldn't hesitate bringing my more snobby friends or out-of-town visitors to try out this neighborhood brewery. read more

Had a cool little vibe to it when we walked in, but I thought it was just like a little convenience store with some drinks that contained the above mentioned products, but when I found out that it was also a social place that had a vast variety of activities and groups that gather here (that evening it was a stop on an anti-valentine adventure), It really changed my mind as to what I was looking at, and I could see the potential that it delivered to a wide collection of different taste and people. The Pain Killer I got was acceptable, but we ordered it with our food, and it didn't come out until I'd almost finished my dinner. The vibes in the place were meh, but fine (especially if the food/drinks were good), but the tables were extremely sticky across their entire surface, so either someone sucks at cleaning, or the finish on the tables was failing and needed to be sanded down/refinished. We did get a side of sweet potato fries that were pretty dope, but they didn't make up for the disappointment of everything else. 1 out of 5 stars; do not recommend.
