My husband and I are fans of Shrimp Basket so we were happy to find their restaurant just off the interstate in Evergreen. We discovered their optional Reel Deal menu offering meals starting at $11 and up today consisting of a beverage, starter and entree's at a special price. I came here for lunch with my boyfriend since we were in the area, and needless to say it was very disappointing. The ambiance was awful. When we walked inside, all the tables were dirty so we asked to sit outside, since we had saw it was clean. When she sat us down, she left after she took our order and drinks. She came back out hacking and coughing up a storm right beside us, which was very gross. Really, we should have walked out the moment that happened, but don't worry it gets worse. We ordered two sweet teas and it took forever to even get our drinks. Once we had gotten our drinks we ordered two boom-boom shrimp starters, and 2 chicken tender baskets. My boyfriend's basket did not even consist of tenders, they were the same size as a chicken nugget from Mcdonald's. He told our server and she had went inside to talk to her manager. Her manager just stared at her while she was explaining the issue. She apologized and said SHE told them to drop 3 more tenders. The manager did not even come outside to talk to us, or apologize for the issue. As a manager it is very unprofessional to have your staff handle issues like these. Ok we came here before heading to the airport and it was very good! Three of us had the seafood basket and it was all fantastic. I can't speak for the oysters though as we were flying and I thought it best to avoid them. Everything else though in this basket was amazing and I will say that it is definitely a lot of food. We sent the leftovers home with the person driving us to the airport because it had so much in it. The interior was cute but not like super top notch on decorating but I have definitely seen way worse. The staff was very nice as well and the food all came out quick. Shrimp Basket is a lifelong favorite and a stop at Evergreen on the way to the beach is such a treat. Well, not anymore. Corporate has changed the breading on the fish and the chicken tenders and it is terrible. The tartar sauce recipe has changed. White fish is no longer on the menu and the slaw is a different recipe with no shrimp in it. This chain will shut down because of this. Just watch. It is so counter to the great food they have served for years. Whoever came up with these brilliant ideas needs to be fired. I will never go again and am very sad about that. 1st I would like to say that I've always enjoyed the food at shrimp basket the food is always delicious. 2nd. This is my first time at this location and the 1st time I've ordered to go. (I'm in town on business for a couple of weeks and was looking to get my fill of seafood.) As always the food tasted great. I ordered the popcorn shrimp basket (half size) with fries, his puppies and a coke. Total $16.37. The most important thing,of course, is the shrimp. I got 16 popcorn shrimp! Every time I have eaten at a Shrimp Basket my plat is overflowing with popcorn shrimp. I sat in my hotel room and enjoyed what little I received and thought about, the pizza I could have ordered for that price, Zaxbys across the street for 1/2 that price or even all the food at Cracker Barrel. I will not eat at this location again. Heck, depending on the steakhouse I could have picked up a steak dinner for the same price. If your looking for a small portion, this is the place. Looking at photos I counted over twice as many shrimp on the Po Boy. I'm sure it was cheaper. FOOD GREAT, portion terrible. read more

Normally Shrimp basket is a first choice for my husband and myself. But not today. I always order the steamed shrimp and my husband orders the cajun pasta. We ordered that today. They no longer devein the shrimp, the tarter sauce is a new recipe (according to our waitress) and not very good. My husbands order normally includes sausage in it, there was none in it today. Our waitress was having to apologize to several tables for problems with their orders. I felt bad for the waitresses because they said the changes came from higher up and they have no control. Very disappointed with my experience in Evergreen. Shrimp were extremely small and WAY over fried. Hush puppies were almost burnt. White fish pieces were very thin with little fish. We also got flounder fingers for appetizers and they were very thin with little fish. Sides were pretty good and so was the service. They closed both locations in Mobile a few years ago and I got stuck with $500 of gift cards. They would not refund my money and suggested I drive 50 miles to the next closest restaurant. Very poor customer service. Overall this is a poorly managed company as their food and management is way below what you would expect. Wish there was a negative star rating. read more

My wife and I stopped here on our way home from a week at the beach. We got there at lunch time and there was a line of people waiting to be sat. Unfortunately, first impressions were not good. While they were busy, nobody was taking the time to greet anyone walking through the door. We weren't even acknowledged by passing servers, the hostess, or even the manager who came out muttering something under his breath at one point. The hostess would just ask "How many" to each group as they were next in line. That was also the first words uttered to us as well: "How many?". Clearly we're just a number. Once we got to our table, we had to wait while the hostess cleaned the table for us. For a party of two, we were sat at a table that could easily accommodate six people. Our server came by pretty quickly. At least she was friendly and quick with the refills and getting us what we needed. I ordered a Shrimp Po'Boy with fries. The manager brought out the food and as he set the food down on the table, noticed that the side of fries in my basket were a little light. He offered to go get some more fries, which he then rushed off to do. The Po Boy was good, it had a lot of shrimp on it. No complaints on the food. The manager did come back with the extra basket of fries, which was appreciated. My wife also enjoyed her meal, which was fried oysters and fried shrimp. While we certainly enjoyed the food, there are other Shrimp Basket locations that provide a better experience. I don't know that I would be back to the location in Evergreen. They need to work on their people skills. I don't expect to be treated like royalty, but I at least expect a "Hi, welcome to the Shrimp Basket" on the way in. read more

Funnel cake fries, shrimp poboy, and a cheeseburger with fries. The portions were minimal to say the least. Opening the boxes I was blow away that someone thought that was acceptable. Some co-workers and I decided to meet at this place for a sort of fellowship lunch. To my delight, our visit was during the all you can eat shrimp special, so of course, I ordered the all you can eat shrimp. Here is where it goes left. The servings consisted of about 6 popcorn shrimp on one of those small plates that restaurants give you when you and your party want to share food. Obviously, when a 6ft 200lb Alabamian orders the all you can eat, then you should be prepared to give him all-they-can-eat. I swallowed the first serving before the waitress finished serving the rest of my party, and I gave her the "Are you serious?" face. However, she refused to look at me even though I knew that she knew that was finished with my first serving. The waitress tried to walk away without asking if I wanted more, but she was unable to ignore me when I verbally got her attention. "Yes?" she said trying to appear as if she didn't know why I called her. "May I have some more ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT shrimp," I said politely. "Of course," she said with a forced smiled, "I will be right back with some more, baby." She ran off. About 25 minutes later she came back with a plate of 6 shrimpy popcorn shrimp. sigh... I ate them before she could turn to leave, and I asked for another order This went on for about two more cycles until I suggest that she bring me two order so that she wouldn't have to keep coming back and forth. She politely took my order and took off. Twenty minutes later the manager, a surly looking man, came with two orders. He wore a "This better be the last order...or else" face, but, of course I responded (mostly out of spite) with a request for two more orders before I even started on the ones he gave me. I felt that the manager was sent to intimidate me and since I don't like intimidation by merchants, I defiantly ordered more. This "power struggle" was unwarranted and unnecessary and I don't think I will be visiting this place again. The subtle hostility was felt by me and my party. I laughed it off initially, but if a restaurant says all you can eat, then they need to honor that advertisement with a cheerful attitude. After all, the customer is PAYING for it. read more
