Dixie Catfish has been around as long as I can remember and I'm old! The place is clean and well cared for, however it doesn't have that new feel but it's clean and a great place to eat. The service is always good and the tea is as good as it gets. From anything fried to the burgers you can't go wrong. The prices are fair to the portion size. Smothered fries are another favorite they may sound unappealing but once you try them you will change your mind. The Philly is good but for me stay with the fried anything. So next time your at the close by at the casino and decide you want a bite drop in and tell them that "Phatt Panda - 1/2Time" sent ya. It won't get you anything but it will let them know that I did as I said I would and wrote them a great review. read more

I stopped in for lunch while traveling through for work today. I know this place is known for catfish but I'm trying to eat a little better so I ordered a grilled chicken salad. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It had all the normal salad toppings, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese but also had banana peppers, which I love. The chicken was the real winner. Most places in this price range use a "out of a bag" chicken for they're grilled chicken salad....not here. This was an honest to goodness grilled chicken breast cut up. Very nice and full of flavor. It definitely earned another visit. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for the waitstaff, they could of been friendlier. They're weren't rude by any means, just not friendly. I also stood in the front area upon arrival and didn't know whether to seat myself or I'd be seated, sort of confusing. Great food though, it's worth going. read more

Service wasn't so good! Waited close to an hour for our food! Food was just ok! PRICES ARE WAY TOO HIGH! Only had 2 hamburger steak dinners and a glass of tea with each dinner. No refills on tea and it costed us over $50. Hbs dinners was $12.95 each on menu and even if the tea was $3.89 each that still shouldn't have been over $50 after tax! A RIP OFF if you ask me! Don't waste your money at this place. We ordered the special which was "fried chicken " with vegetables, a roll and dessert. The fried chicken turned out to be a drumstick, the food was cold and over-salted, and the service was terrible. The only good thing about the meal was the apple cobbler. This was a great little local diner. It doesn't look like a lot from the outside and you might pass it if you aren't looking for it but the food will change your mind once you get inside. Dixie Catfish served us really good fried catfish as well as top of the line gumbo which tasted really good. For some reason I even got a salad, it was fresh huge and really good. The staff was really friendly and the diner actually had a nice quaint atmosphere. I definitely would recommend coming here if you are in the area. read more

The side salad is a must. Diane fixes good gumbo. The bacon cheeseburger can't be beaten. Crinkle cut fries are a good side. My husband always gets the hamburger steak. Of course last time I had the 2 whole small catfish plate for a tail crunching good time. Top off with tea half and half with lemon for a southern supper refreshment. read more

Not many restaurants are in the Atmor area, so I read the reviews on Yelp about Dixie Catfish Shack, and the food was worth the trip from Atlanta. The restaurant is about two miles from the casino and really is a hole in the wall, but places like that tend to have the best dishes. I am an extremely picky eater and do not care for catfish, but I ordered the catfish fillet dinner and a side of corn nuggets, and I would rate the food a good 9/10. All the food was made fresh to order, and the customer service was high class. Menu prices weren't high at all either. Don't judge a book by its cover they say, and this place defiantly fits that cliche. Will be returning the next time I drive down for the casino. read more

Friday night......I can only rate my initial experience. Arrived at 7ish on Friday to a crowded restaurant with about 3 parties head of us. Obvious signs immediately of staff being overwhelmed with the rush. Rumblings from the staff about no clean dishware or glasses and that the kitchen wasn't bringing out any food. We heard the staff saying amongst themselves that a table had got up left earlier because of the wait. Its a small place and almost all tables looked as if they were all waiting for food so we decided to leave without getting a chance to eat there. Hear for another day, but not sure I want to try again. Saturday night.....Well, my review yesterday was bad. I thought I'd try again today. Today we actually got a table and sat down and immediately looked at other tables to see the look of disgust from the customers. One table was very vocal threatening to walk out if their food wasn't brought out, they said they had been waiting 30 minutes and another table started to grumble too. Just like last night, the staff was very loud in their comments about how out of control things were and I found that to be very unprofessional. Regardless of how good the reviews are about the food, lack of good service and sufficient help won't allow people to even get food! After hearing the staff once again blabber about the kitchen, and other things, we got up and left. My best advice, skip this place because they can't handle any business based on not just 1, but 2 attempts. We have never just walked out without being waited on, but did so twice in two days at this place. read more

My personal favorite is the chicken liver dinner with a really nice green salad, grilled bread, french fries (or baked potato), fried livers and lots of brown gravy. Literally a shack in the side of the road in the middle of nowhere; but it gets pretty busy during lunch. Bunch of rocking chairs so you can smoke while chilling on the patio. Food is good, southern home-cooked food. Tried the pork plate, which is basically pulled pork, with salad and corn fritters as sides. Pretty excited since that was the 1st time I saw corn fritters being offered in US - they were pretty darn good too! This was an awesome place. The outside and inside is a small down home feeling place. Our server was a wonderful young women, very charming, and quick. The food was out faster than I ever expected it to be and was very good. The catfish is local river caught, so no chines, or farm fed fish. Loved it, loved it. Wow...stopped by this little hell hole staying in Atmore for work and my recommendation is to keep on driving. We arrived at 7pm and didn't receive our food for over an hour. Wait service was very poor. No one stopped by to refill our drinks the entire time we waited. Catfish was forgettable and sweet potato waffle fries were provided by the frozen foods section of the Walmart down the street. Oh...and they also overcharged my group by around $6. read more

If you're looking for a small town, southern catfish restaurant, this is a fun spot. They cooked the food fresh after we ordered. An all-you-can-eat meal for $10.95. It reminded me of similar restaurants in GA & AL years ago. My wife said it was 'lip-smackin good." The cashier told us they would have had home made pies, but their usual baker had just had hip surgery. I wish her a speedy recovery!! Not what I was expecting when my boyfriend's parents took us to dinner at the little shack on the side of the road. Its nothing to give a second glance at from the outside, but the inside is quaint and down home. I had a steak, I don't remember right off which type, but it was very good.
