Since there are no reviews that are recent, and I hadn't gotten to this review yet, let's kill two birds with one stone, shall we? We were looking for a new dentist having moved to FL from PA. The gentleman who did my husband's Medicare Advantage plan also sold us a decently priced Humana HMO and recommended this dentist. Even had plenty of business cards with him. Wasn't I surprised to see that "Mr. Z.," in his review on 03/13/2016 also had the Humana HMO. But, his review gets even MORE familiar. Stay with me on this one. I called first. The first surprise I got was that we had to go in first for x-rays and an exam by the dentist, but would have to go back another day for the cleaning. WHAT? WTF is up with South Florida and this separation of services? Cleanings, x-rays, and exams are all done in one visit. If one needs fillings, etc., you either get it done at that time or go back. This is a scam to charge your insurance for two visits to the dentist's office. So I schedule myself and my husband back to back because my husband doesn't like going to the dentist. I made it crystal clear that I would be there to watch and listen to everything said to my husband. So we get the x-rays and exams. Everything seems to be fine. I scheduled the cleanings. Also on the same day, back to back. I was absolutely HORRIFIED when the dentist came in and used a DRILL to take the plaque off of my teeth. I was not in need of a heavy cleaning or debridement as my teeth have always been well cared for. A DRILL. Not a plaque scaler or dental scraper but a DRILL! That drill hit my GUMS and I was pissed to high heaven. Absolutely nothing to numb the area. Then the hygienist comes in and does the cleaning and polishing. Since when does the hygienist only do the cleaning and polishing? Hubby? He did need a deep cleaning and they went at his teeth with a DRILL as well. However, the dentist did apply a topical like lidocaine to numb the area. His teeth and face hurt for days. Thankfully for hubby, he's got a nurse for a wife so I was able to treat his pain at home with Oragel and Tylenol. The day of the cleanings, something came up and I couldn't be there with hubby. Hubby comes home after his painful cleaning not just with a painful mouth, but a drilled out molar with a temporary filling in it. WHAT? Absolutely no one mentioned this during the exam. And here's why.....let's go BACK to "Mr. Z's" review... "...he was trying to save the nerve on one tooth by advising not to do a root canal where it was not absolutely necessary." That's "Mr. Z.'s" experience. That drilled out tooth my husband came home with? These were the EXACT words spoken to me by the dentist after I marched into the office and demanded to know why my husband had a drilled out molar, with a temporary filling, and a treatment plan for a CROWN. The x-ray of that tooth? Absolutely no proof of anything being wrong with the nerve. And nothing was wrong with the nerve. But they still had to put a new crown on his tooth and it was NOT cheap. So my husband has a crown he doesn't need and never needed. This is what we call a "slow up sell." A slow up sell is when a dentist makes you think they're doing you a favor and you wind up spending a crap load of money for dental work you don't need because they know they can milk your insurance for it. Well because he needed this crown now, I told them to put on a silver crown and NOT a porcelain-covered, silver crown. A regular silver crown was $100 less. And did they listen? Nope. They put on a porcelain-covered, silver crown. All of this garbage was well over $1000 out of our pockets. The dentist told me I needed a filling on a molar that has nothing wrong with it. One would feel it immediately once the dentist sticks the dental pick on the molar. When molars require a filling because of cavities, the pick sticks into the tooth momentarily. It's an indicator that the tooth is going bad. No such thing happened when that molar was checked. In fact, I have a molar on the upper right side of my mouth that DOES need a filling replaced and the dentist didn't catch it. With my husband, I think he got scammed because for starters, he's of the generation, where if a doctor says you need it, he believes them. Secondly, Dr. Shroff has a heavy Indian accent and he's quite difficult to understand. And, since my husband is too polite, he won't ask someone with an accent to repeat themselves. I WILL. The woman at the front desk is polite, friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hygienists are also polite, friendly, welcoming and helpful. However, she and the hygienists, for a reason I don't know, appear to be afraid of Dr. Shroff. He's nice and pleasant. But he is a scammer. He scammed my husband and probably "Mr. Z." too. I can't help but think, that if I was there with him on the day, none of this would have happened. read more

I am very pleased with Dr. Shroff's practice in all aspects. We have Humana HMO through my wife's job with the School Board of Broward County and were happy to find a very competent office manager/assistant in Shannon who gave us a detailed breakdown of all potential costs with every procedure to avoid surprise bills. Dr. Shroff is a very knowledgeable dentist with patience and integrity. He has the patient's interest in mind first and foremost. I had two crowns done and I know that he cares for the patient as he was trying to save the nerve on one tooth by advising not to do a root canal where it was not absolutely necessary. My wife also had a crown and a filling done and she is very happy with Dr. Shroff's work. We strongly recommend Optum Dental and will continue to go here for years to come. read more

Being new to the Plantation area, it wasn't easy finding a dentist I believed would be knowledgeable and properly care for my teeth. Someone mentioned to me that Optum Dental Care had a very caring dentist and a nice office. So I decided to visit the office and see how I felt. I was kindly greeted by the office manager, Shannon, who explained to me that Dr. Shroff has over 35 years of dental experience in both dental treatment and surgeries. In addition, the office also has a type of anesthesia that would make the procedures painless for patients who are scared, nervous or need extensive dental work. Fortunately, I just needed x-rays and a basic teeth cleaning. However, I did find the dentist to be very knowledgeable. He also gave me some great insights on ways to continue taking care of my teeth. read more

Dr. Shroff is fantastic! He is the best dentist I have every had. I'm so glad he was recommended to me. He has been fixing my gum problems that other dentists did nothing about. i have been TERRIFIED of dentists all my life and i am 62!! i have been going to Dr. Shroff and his dental team for 3 years and they are FABULOUS!! i could not ask for a better dentist, office manager and dental assistants ANYWHERE!! i have tried other places but left crying! I had been in need of finding a new dentist for the last several years. For years, I faithfully went to my dentist every six months to have my teeth cleaned. 5 root canals later, I no longer wanted to go to the dentist. I couldn't understand if I went every six months how I suddenly had a "tiny" cavity that would become a dental nightmare (which root canals are). For two years I complained about a tooth issue and I kept being told there is nothing there. I gradually became fearful of going to any dentist. After three years I gave it another shot. Won't go through the details of that experience but I do question if all the work performed was necessary, along with a HUGE bill. It took a second visit to resolved the issue I had been complaining about for two years because I was again told there was nothing there. MY mouth now is a mess! I am so embarassed to even see a dentist! Yesterday my daughter had a tooth issue that needed to be resolved. After an extensive internet search, I found Dr. Shroff. She needed her tooth fixed immediately because she would be leaving the country the following week. Dr. Shroff"s office personnel, fit her into the schedule the same day and helped with getting our insurance switched to his office. The moment I walked in, I felt at home and knew that my search was over. Listening to him discuss the mouth, it was obvious that he knew his stuff and his focus is on helping and educating his patients, not making money. I only wished I had found him years ago. I honestly believe I would not be dealing with any mouth issues now if I had. Dr. Shroff and his staff truly care about each person that walks through his door. He took care of my daughter's tooth problem and explained everything with simplicity. We also realized that so much that had been done in both of our mouths was unnecessary. I can't wait to go see him for myself. My other children and I all have appointments to have checkups and get our teeth cleaned. I have no doubts that it is going to be a wonderful experience for each of us. I can't change the past, but I am excited about the future! read more

To Whom it May Concern, During dental work conducted by Dr. Shroff, he neglected to notice I had a white filling from a previous cavity. The white filling was clearly seen via x-ray prior to the work being completed. He seemed to have forgot the white filling was there and cracked it. He attempted to fix the cracked filling, only making the situation worse. He not only permanently damaged my mouth which has led to never-ending pain and discomfort; he refilled my tooth with an outdated metal filling rather than doing the right thing and replacing the filling with the upgraded material I originally had before he cracked it. Not only was the attempted correction a huge failure, it has now resulted in over $3,000 in new dental fees to correct his mistake and eliminate the day-to-day pain he has caused me. I understand dentists are human and things happen. I approached him about paying for the fees my insurance would not cover and he not only shut me down, he was extremely rude and unprofessional about the situation. I am now in the process of filing the necessary complaints and proceeding with legal action. I understand not many dentists take HMO insurance plans, but I would have been better off completely ignoring my dental needs rather than attending his office. Dr. Shroff should have done the right thing, taken responsibility for his failure, and helped his previous patient in a time of need. Instead of doing what was right, Dr. Shroff became angry with me and denied the whole situation ever occurred. Please be advised. read more
