The day of my massage, I got lost trying to get to them in the pouring rain. I arrived to my appointment 1 hour late and soaked to the bone from the rain. They were amazing! Not only did they welcome me with open arms, they took me in right away kept my appointment. Luna was my massage therapist and she was amazing. She did a fantastic job and even made some suggestions on some problem areas that were holding tension. If you are looking for a spa and need a massage, be sure to stop into this place, it's worth every effort to find them, they CARE about the people who find them. In our correspondence Maria was clear about the cost of the treatment and what to expect - 1 hour, wear comfortable clothes, Shiatsu is a Japanese pressure point massage. That said, I knew not to expect a feel-good deep tissue massage. For those familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu is like an acupuncture treatment except it uses fingers instead of needles to treat your ailments (which include many problems besides sore muscles). So to begin the treatment, Maria asked me about any specific issues I wanted to address - tight shoulders, trouble sleeping. Maria has a gentle touch and she has a beautiful treatment room with Zen decor which makes for a relaxing experience. Though I wanted to stay awake to appreciate her technique, I found myself lulled into a half-asleep trance, just as I do during acupuncture treatments. This is how I know her treatment was effective. For other non-Italian visitors, Maria is very friendly and speaks English well (she seems to receive many tourists has her clientele). After a day of walking, standing, drawing, painting and at the art gallery, last thing I wanted to do was walk to a massage studio. He came to me. As others have mentioned, Davide is very punctual, responsible, and kind. I must have gotten around 8 massages from him in my month here -- varying from 1.5 hours to 2 hours in length (I prefer longer massages). He was on time every time, he was consistent, very professional -- and, also, great massage! I was at a rented apartment so as a guy I was worried if it was going to be weird with another guy coming over to massage you. It shouldn't be but you know what I mean. I've had female massage therapists come give me professional massages before but never men. It was never awkward or anything like that. Davide was very professional, everything was perfect -- and great massages! I was having some muscle spasms in my upper back from tension, then had issues with my calves and hamstrings at other times, he was very accomodating and addressed those. If you're not a hotel guest, you can pay a little extra for use of the swimming pool & gym for the day. You can also walk around the hotel lobby & large gardens. In any case, the facial was relaxing and I do think my skin looks firmer as a result. The ambience at this 5* hotel is incredibly classy and the service is unbeatable. It is possible to purchase a day's access to the pool so that after the spa you can hang around here and in the verdant gardens, which really is an oasis in the middle of the city.
