The hosts, Ian and Christine, welcomed us warmly into the property, and our bedroom was fantastic -- decorated with a lot of locally made textiles and little items, it was simple, clean, and comfortable. They even had USB outlets! Ian cooks all the breakfast in the morning, and you fill out a form the day before (or when you arrive) so he knows when and what to prepare. The latest time for breakfast is 8:15am, which can prove to be a challenge for night owls and world travelers with jet lag like us, but I was actually glad that it kept us to a schedule so we could see more things. The breakfast was huge! There was a starter and a main, toast, coffee or tea, and we could never manage to finish the food, even though it was all very delicious. Ian swears by his porridge (I can see why!), and you can choose between 4 plates: smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, smoked meats and cheese, Scottish breakfast, and bacon and Brie on muffins. They also use really nice tableware and everything just looks fantastic and neat. If you happen to be chilling in the living room of the property at the right time, you might get some afternoon tea or a little whisky. We've had some fantastic conversations with the hosts and other guests while chilling out before our next adventure. Ian could also pack you lunch for a small fee, which is a very good idea if you are just going to hike all around the island. All-in-all, I find this place very lovely, not very expensive at all for what it offers, and would definitely plan a vacation around a stay.

Carters Rest is a rare find, beautiful views, great hospitality and wondeful hosts. Julie and Steve are the warmest and friendliest people that I have met to date. They will go out of their way to make sure you have the most pleasant stay possible. The first night we were rushing to see the Fairy Pools and then got stuck a works delay in Portree so didn't get to eat dinner. We had some crumpets and jam from the super but they insisted on heating up some lasagne for us. So gracious, we didn't have words to express our thanks. The room was larger than most B&B but well appointed. Nice touches like a stocked refrigerator and useful bath amenities such as cotton swabs and such. I liked the USB port device that allowed us to charge all of our phones and pads easily. The breakfast options were a bit daunting as I didn't know what to choose. I would recommend the croissants, especially served warm. The Blueberry juice was a surprise and refreshing without beibg overly sweet. The Scottish breakfast is a feast if you are really hungry. My wife who is a picky eater had it both days and ate most of it. The best seat for breakfast is in front of the big bay window where there is a tremendous view of the bay and a bird feeder to watch the birds in the morning light. A great stay

The sound of the wind, ocean and baby lambs outside of your bedroom window. My husband and I stayed at Carters Rest for two nights this May during our honeymoon. I had been looking forward to it from what I had seen of their website, and the experience certainly did not disappoint. After one wrong turn and some helpful hints from the owner (after all, it wouldn't be an experience driving around on the Isle of Skye if you didn't find yourself down a single-track road with cows on either side of you, headed the wrong direction at least once!), we found this lovely B&B just outside Glendale on the Isle of Skye. Julie and Steve are the most amazing hosts and instantly made us feel at home! Everything was impeccable and the attention to detail was unlike any other guest house we stayed in. It was such a relief to come back here every night and just enjoy the grounds, both inside and out. We had the King Room, which was lovely and had everything we needed--including beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. They even have *amazing* Wi-Fi (a strong signal that actually works!) and a complimentary iPad in the room for guests. Breakfast was like eating at a five-star restaurant; the presentation was absolutely lovely and the food was delicious. I still long for the Scottish porridge with fresh fruit and the toasted tea cake. Meals are served in a breakfast nook with windows on all three sides and views of the sea, and you also have the opportunity to chat with other guests as you sip your fresh French-press coffee. Both nights, we took the opportunity to explore the area around Carters Rest by simply walking down the lane, where we snapped photos of surrounding cliffs, distant waterfalls, the sea and of course grazing sheep. Tip: outside, just to the side of the breakfast nook, there's a lovely patio area with a bird feeder that's perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine! If we're ever back in this part of the world again, we'll definitely be returning to Carters Rest. As for now, I'm content with stalking them on Facebook.

We were able to meet others staying at the B&B and chat in the living area, which added a sense of coziness and warmth to the already-cozy-and-warm B&B. David and Katrina were completely warm, kind, and accommodating hosts and provided clean rooms and a hot breakfast. Although this B&B is remotely located, I think this B&B is located exactly where it deserves to be - surrounded by beautiful hills and a sea view.

Isle of Skye is a very scenic, large, and mountainous island located to the northwest of the…read moremainland and considered part of the Scottish Highlands. There are only two ways on or off the island and that is the Skye Bridge or via the ferry at the Armadale ferry terminal about 20 miles to the south of the bridge. We drove those 20 miles and really enjoyed the scenery.

I can't imagine trying to navigate Skye without an automobile. Would be tricky. I saw a couple of lads trying to hitchhike. Good luck to 'em. Head to the Northern part of the island. Go out of your way to visit Quiraing, and also loop around to the most Northern part of the island. Take the photos you need to take and put your phone in your pocket for the rest of the time. Take it all in. It is a truly magical place. Simply beautiful. Talisker Distillery is on the island. The Southwest corner. Worth a visit. Smells incredible. Whiskey is tasty. Dress for all occasions. Expect heavy rain. Expect blue skies. Expect warm weather. Expect to be freezing. And expect it all in the same day. If you told me I had to go to Scotland for a month and could only stay on the Isle of Skye, I'd jump all over it.

I found our room to be very nice and equipped with the standard kettle, tea & coffee. We even had a view over the landscape. There is a guest lounge with a fireplace and a view too. WiFi is free but a donation to cancer research is welcome if you do use the WiFi (collecting box in the lounge). Breakfast was organized in slots, we could choose 8 or 9am. We chose 8, by 8:40 we had to make room for the 9am guests. Breakfast was very good, with many things to choose from, like porridge, eggs with salmon or full scottish breakfast. Duncan also offers smoked makarel pate which he prepares himself, he even catches the fish himself. I found his pate very good. Breakfast had to be ordered the day before. I enjoyed our stay very much. The owners were very nice and always helpful with advice over things to do and where to go. I would book the Dalriana again anytime.

The Sandgrounder B&B is located a bit outside of Portree (Island of Skye) and it will take you a…read more20 min walk to and from the town centre. Nearby you will find a COOP where you can buy food supplies, but note that there are no other shops. If you are travelling without a car I would suggest you find accommodation nearer the town centre. The host and his wife are very nice and accommodating. The B&B offers 2 bedrooms: 1 single and 1 double/twin. In your bedroom you will find clean towels, a small TV, clean carpet and sheets, a wash basin, coffee and tea facilities. You are handed a key to the main door and room and can come and go when you like. Breakfast is served plenty and you can expect the full English breakfast or anything you order the night before. Just fill in the sheet, which is left in your room and request what you want for breakfast. This is a very nice and efficient idea. Why only 3*? Unfortunately you need to share the toilet and bathroom with other guests, you might not know. Also, the walls appear to be very thin and you can hear people talking downstairs or in the other room. Still, its a nice place to stay if you have a car and and do not mind sharing the bathroom.

The place is about a mile from the local town of Portree and the setting is very beautiful. only took us about 15 minutes walk into the centre when going out one evening for food. By car it's only a couple of minutes. like I said we were impressed by how clean the place was and there were some great maps and local guide books which we could borrow. You can even walk there, just remember to bring a flashlight for the walk back. I had the scampie and chips, which is breaded shrimp and fries for those who don't speak Scottish-english. The portions are generous but may take a little while to get to your table (the restaurant was a little behind, but catching up fast). Wash it down with a pint of the Gillean, which is especially brewed by the Isle of Skye for this bar! There are plenty of locals (and maybe even a puppy!) hanging out, chatting, and having dinner. Join them for a good night on the Isle of Skye!
