Isle of Skye is simply magical. Big mountains, big sky, big ocean. We drove fro m Inverness through Kyle of Lochalsh across the Skye Bridge onto Isle of Skye and used Portree as our base. We hiked up the famous Old Man of Storr and explored the area above and behind the Storr (not to be missed, awesome vistas), and we checked out Quiraing, Uig, and other cute ports. We were lucky to have amazing weather.
Beware: No public restroom. At all. The only public restroom is the pay-per-use one at the trailhead of Old Man of Storr. That's it, for the entire island! Not even at the big parking lot (car park) at the Quiraing (another big famous hike). Simply nothing. No toilet at any trail head, at any vista points ... We couldn't even find cafes or simple outlets for food (or pee pee break).
After hiking the Old Man of Storr, we found a trailer selling simple food (hot tea, coffee, muffins) across the street. That's it for the entire day. Come prepared; pack your food and water.
I made a short video documenting our hike. The whole landscape is very much out of Lord of the Rings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNbk8Y8ZOB0 read more
