Now that I was able to go to to Shumi, I can safely say it was worth it! The concept is cool. The sushi on the revolving belt is good and it was plentiful and varied. There is also a menu where you can order from. This made the price well worth the $39.99 a person (half price for kids). It also included a drink (soda or hot tea). My concerns- while we were not seated toward the start of the belt, no one was really seated in front but once a group of people were seated, the "good stuff" was all gone. This is where the menu would come in handy. Also, I watched someone touch the plate and not take the food- kind of gross. I could see how this could be an issue if people are sick-coughing or sneezing -because there is no sneeze guard over the food. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Quick to clear plates too. I hope they stay around for awhile because the concept is fun! With some tweaks, this could be just what all of Fairfield county needs!

Went here with my son to give it a try. The decor is very festive and the restaurant is very clean. The pricing varies based on what day you attend. Be very careful if you have food allergies as they do not give you heads up what's in the conveyor belt food. The sushi was just ok. The rice was mushy and warm against the cold fish and it didn't mix well. Often times it was hard for me to find something to grab to eat. The only reason I gave three stars is because the staff is amazing and even though there is a very strong language barrier they tried very hard to help and keep you satisfied. My entire family had stomach issues after eating here. The restaurant is BYOB The parking is ample as they are in a strip mall. sadly they offer a free dessert if you give a good Yelp review which is clearly wrong. They do take credit card They are open for lunch and dinner and take a break from 3-5 pm. We won't be back I am hoping for their sake it's just new restaurant jitters

Saw this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try. We got here as soon as it opened (10 mins past 5) and 4 tables were already filled. It is on the smaller side for something so interactive. Here's a quick overview of my thoughts : - they're short staffed so ordering things off the menu isn't as accessible as it should be (should do an online ordering system just for the restaurants that you can order and have it put on the conveyor) - should be a time limit given we ended up waiting 5-8 mins in between certain sushi we wanted - it's a small place so adding more tables would only cause congestion and all the good sushi will be taken first - resulting in more waiting times -sushi was pretty tasty - some better than others considering how fast they have to keep up with making the sushi -this is more so for an experience and something out of the typical all you can eat sushi They just opened up and they need more staff. They have a few odds and ends to piece together but still a really neat experience. I'm more forgiving for newer restaurants and don't want their reviews to drag them down. Give them a chance - be patient!

Despite hearing many not so great reviews, we were very pleased with Shumi tonight! We got there at 5:40 and sat at 6:45. There are many many plates that come out. We really enjoyed the rolls with spicy tuna and a crispy rice app. Since they are newer, it is BYOB of any sort. I believe they only have water. The hand rolls were a bit unappetizing looking with a TON of meat in them. It's hard to know what you're eating which stinks. If you want to know what anything is, you'd have to grab a hostess when she runs by which isn't very often. Things like kani salad and appetizers don't come out often but don't be afraid to request them! We requested a second rice app and they brought it over to us. All in all, we enjoyed Shumi. Fun experience with sushi that was a 7.5/10. We will be back!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasnt very busy! The restaurant is clean and well set up. We got a table near the beginning of the sushi belt and had a wide variety of sushi to pick from. The sushi itself was okay and there were also dumplings and tempura. Some platez were covered with a plastic covering and some were not, no reason why. Pretty good for all you can eat at $39.99. Knocking off a star because my friend ordered a chocolate banana for dessert and got 1/5th of a banana covered in hershey sauce. Plenty of parking out front.

We live pretty close by and have patiently been waiting for Shumi to open, we went in last night and it was great! The service was prompt and friendly from the moment we walked in. The place is small and only has eight four-tops surrounding the conveyor with another four high top bar seats at the end of the cooking area. We got there at a great time and got a seat but as we were eating a line started to form with people waiting to get their turn. The server who sat us down explained it was $29.99 (M-F) for all you can eat and that includes soda (refills too, I believe). Unfortunately he didn't mention there is also a menu and you can order some other stuff from there, for instance a specific roll. We were paying when we overheard another server explaining this to a table and it sounded like that menu is included in the all you can eat price as well. We didn't get a chance to look at what was listed on that menu. The sushi that was going around was varied and everything tasted fresh and delicious. Lot's of interesting dishes like stuffed tofu pockets, fried squid balls, gyoza/dumplings, seaweed salad and shumai were in the rotation. There were pieces of sashimi in the mix and lots of different rolls. One roll was deep fried and had a mix of crab and cream cheese, very delicious. Lots of standards like spicy tuna, california rolls, etc. If you've ever been to a revolving sushi place you know that the setup of the conveyor + your seat location is important to get the good stuff. Sometimes you eye something up and someone "upstream" gets it before you. My partner felt bad grabbing a couple plates because she could hear the young girls at the table behind us chattering excitedly in anticipation of something that was coming out. The reality is the sushi chefs stocking the conveyor did a great job of distributing the dishes so everyone got a fair crack. Other times I've done conveyor sushi there were desserts included but there weren't any last night. Hopefully that will be included in the future. The only real downside aside from not being told about the menu was that there seemed to be a lull in what was available when a bunch of California roll and smaller veg only rolls going around and around. This was also the time when my partner remarked about how the conveyor is right at breathing height. The food was well worth the price of admission and we certainly got our fill. We can't wait to return!

The restaurant is clean and new, cute decor and comfortable. All you can eat pricing (incl anything off the belt or menu) as of writing this was $39.99 for adults on the weekends, $27 for adults on weekdays, $13 for kids each day. Or you can pay by the dish off the sushi belt. The food is decent and they had plenty of it coming around. Some items in service need to be worked out--nothing which disrupted our evening. Generally we were pleased with our experience and are happy we went. My 9 year old said it was the best day of his life. Ha!

Eel and avocado roll/shrimp tempura roll
    Antonio S.

Was in the area and grabbed a couple of rolls to go. I ordered their Eel and avocado roll and the shrimp tempura roll. Each roll came with 6 pieces. Dish was fresh and delicious. Really enjoyed it. Also came with a good side of ginger and wasabi. The upfront staff was super friendly. Took the time to explain to me how everything worked and then proceeded to take my order. It took about 10-12 minutes to get my to go order. Everything seems very well priced. Ambiance is casual, good for both lunch and dinner. Bright, clean restaurant. Cool concept for a restaurant. This is a personal preference, I wouldn't take food from the conveyer belt so I'm really glad they allow you to order off the menu. Overall it's a good place. Looking forward to coming back and exploring the menu more. I recommend giving it a try.

We were very excited to try this different experience. Went there for a midweek lunch and it was pretty full because it's a fairly small restaurant. We were a bit disappointed at how slow the food was coming on the belt and the lack of variety that came out. The sushi chefs need to face different sides so that way the food isn't just coming from one end and the other end gets empty belts. There is a menu that you can order from if you choose to do the AYCE option in addition to the belt. Unfortunately, we weren't told this and only found out when we saw others ordering it. For lunch, it does include sashimi, so that's a win for the price point. Food options were with a good selection if you got to see the menu and order off it. However, the sushi rice was disappointing as it was pretty packed in to make it look like there isn't that much rice. They had drinks but I didn't see a drink menu. No dessert seen or mentioned either. Service was lacking a bit mainly due to being understaffed, not because they weren't trying. We had to ask for the soy sauce dish and we never were given plates nor the menu to order additional AYCE items. Ordering off the AYCE menu was another hurdle, as you had to flag down the waitstaff to take your order, then them getting your order correct is another issue. Between the times it took for the food to come around, you kind of filled up from waiting. Hopefully, service gets better as it was newly opened.

we came here for my son's bday and we had a great time! We did the all you can eat option and it was definitely worth it. My kids loved the sashimi platter. they loved being able to take the little plates off the conveyor belt whenever they wanted. We could also order off the menu as well. For dessert, they brought out a fried oreo dish with a little candle and my son loved it!

Restaurant is severely understaffed, after we were seated we didn't get water for half an hour. The waiters and chefs were making do with what they could, but they definitely needed more hands. Sushi was okay; for $26 a person for lunch all you can eat, it was a little pricey for the variety that was offered. ($36 for dinner, friday, and weekends) This place is unlike normal sushi conveyers I've been to. They have limited options on the conveyers (basic California rolls and kani salad) and anything else you want you have to order, which takes a while to come out since they are understaffed. Sashimi was not super fresh, tuna and red snapper was fishy. On top of that when my boyfriend ate salmon sashimi, he found a BONE in the sashimi. I've never heard of that before. I didn't believe him until I had a roll with raw fish and I also bit into a bone. Overall would not recommend. There are so many more all you can eat sushi places in Connecticut that surpass this place for the price. This place is just for the "novelty" of a conveyer belt and also caters very much to white people.

Three cheers for Shumi Revolving Sushi!!!! The service was attentive. The sushi and sashimi was fresh and delicious! I highly recommend it. We loved the cozy atmosphere and well placed conveyer station!

Hot sake, spicy kani roll with tobiko
    Qomar S.

While the revolving sushi conveyor looks cool. I ordered from the menu and not the all you can eat conveyor buffet. I ordered sushi roll with spicy kani. The kani was not spicy and not fresh. The tobiko was was not evenly spread on top of every piece as I have experienced in any other sushi place. The pork dumplings were very bland. The matron explains they order them from a company and not made in house. She tries to placate me with a free appetizer of a stuffed jalapeño. It was not tasty. I just paid for what I ate and drank (hot sake and the dumplings). The decor was semi spartan. I will NOT be going there again.

Ask the Community - Shumi Revolving Sushi

Excited to try this place but don't want to get stuck waiting. That said, when is the best time to go? Is it safe to say that 5:30 on weekdays are a good time?

I think 5:30 is safe. We went at opening and there was plenty of seating. By the time we were leaving it was full.

Can you get sushi a la carte from the conveyor belt or is it only AYCE?

When sat we were asked if we wanted to order from the menu or do AYCE

I have been DREAMING of getting a revolving sushi location close to me in CT. A few years ago I had…read moreto drive out to Boston to find one, but now it seems there's one right in New Haven. Chidori Revolving Sushi is a New Haven go-to for me. The premise is fun: you sit somewhere in the restaurant, that location has access to a conveyer belt system that is full of sushi at all times. You can grab any plate, usually containing 2 pieces of sushi, and once you're done, you're charged by putting the plate in a slot by your seat. The plates are colored based on price ($2.58 for blue plates, usually basic rolls like a philadelphia roll or spicy tuna roll, $3.79 for red plates, the most common type, which contain the specialty rolls, and then $5.79 for black plates, which are usually slices of fish over a piece of rice and much more fish-heavy). This format lets you try out a bunch of rolls, rather than committing to just 1 or 2. This is great if you're like me and get full a bit fast but love trying as many things as possible! There is also a tablet where you can order appetizers, full rolls, drinks, and more! I tried a number of rolls, with my favorite by far being the New Haven roll, which was fried and full of jalapeños and spicy tuna. I also loved the Steelers roll, with mango and salmon, and the angry roll, which was like a philadelphia roll with smoked salmon and kani on top! I had some of the mushroom soup, which was super dissimilar to the typical clear soup with mushroom broth and was instead very very strong on the mushroom. A super thick and oily broth, it was so rich and umami it was almost hard to finish, but super delicious!! I also had the pepper tuna appetizer, which was thicker and chewier than I'm used to, but the gimmick of this place is about the conveyer belt so I didn't expect complete perfection! Finally, I had the taiyaki dessert--a SHOWSTOPPER. Delicious and perfectly fried, the red bean is scrumptious inside and the ice cream is a great touch. After 10 plates are put into their little device, you get a small gacha toy which is a cute touch! I got a little Kuromi which was fun. Overall, I love this place. I recommend it a ton. My favorite appetizer the sexy jalapeño--a spicy tuna filled and fried jalapeño! Definitely swing by and give a bunch of different sushi pieces a try. The best time to hit it is when it's busy--I went at 8pm on a saturday and it seems they had just stopped putting more sushi out, since they close at 9. This meant the sushi slowly dwindled and I didn't get to try anything different from what I saw the first go-around. But it's still worth it!
