I've now been with Shumway insurance agency in someway shape or form for the last upteen years and I would say to any and all peoples that apples to apples Shumway's insurance agency is top line insurance at the best price ! I have personal auto I have business auto I have business and I have homeowners policies that's a lot of insurance so don't think for one second that I don't go out and check the rates and check apples to apples what people give for insurance for the cost ! Never mind that the people are very conscientious about their work and the ethics are top notch - but they have options of different insurance companies and different types of coverages to be able to satisfy almost any driver unless of course you have many things against you which then it is not the insurance companies or the insurance agents fault that you cannot get a reasonable price it is your own fault and you better keep shopping around! If there is a way to give you coverage this agency is the one that will find it - all without compromising integrity or other insureds rates !!! read more

I'd like to warn people about this agency. They have great customer service while you are a customer. However when you cancel a policy with them they become hostile and rude. And refuse to perform simple business requests such as faxing a copy of your policy documents. The owner Robert Schumway is especially bad in the way he treats departing customers. I did not have any issues prior to this and other than feeling my policy was too expensive I was overall satisfied with this agency until I decided to leave (a competitor found a much lower rate). If you are shopping around for an insurance policy, there are other agencies in town which will treat you much better. I urge you to check the yellow pages and do your homework. read more

Not quite sure about the last review, but I had a completely different experience with Shumway Insurance. I've been a client of theirs since probably 2008 and I've never had anything bad to say about the agency. I had an issue where my insurance carrier accidentally cancelling my policy and I was without insurance for quite a long period of time for myself of my agent knew about it. I called Shumway Insurance and spoke with Mindy and she was right on top of it. Not only did Mindy figure out what happened, she went above and beyond for me and had me fully insured with the same carrier, at no additional cost and with insurance cards within hours. I'd recommend Shumway Insurance to anyone looking for a local insurance agent that, contrary to the previous review, actually cares about their clients. read more

Was sent a tracking device that would send GPS location info to insurance provider and was not told this was part of the program. Asked to remove it and honor the rate provided since this was not explained and was told they could not do that. A month goes by and rate increases by $50/mo because I didn't provide previous insurance coverage document. Was never asked for this document prior to rate increase. Basically they give you a low rate with a bunch of strings attached and don't explain them. Lying & deceitful company

I lost her direct line phone number that was given to me and asked her for it again but she refused and said "just call anyone". I believe it's best to talk to the same person when I need service. Especially something like auto and home insurance which has a lot of moving parts and is expensive. Even though Winooski Insurance is local it no longer feels that way. Not what it used to be. One of the reasons why I shop local is to get personal attention. I'm taking my business elsewhere.
