I want to distinguish between the owner and the crew who performed the work. The crew was polite, punctual, and did their jobs well. My concerns are specifically with the owner. What makes this experience especially frustrating is how dramatically things changed after we signed the paperwork. Before signing, he was extremely responsive, personable, easy to talk to, and seemed knowledgeable and trustworthy. He answered our questions, communicated regularly, and made us feel confident that we had found a contractor we could trust. The minute the paperwork was signed, he became a different person. Communication became difficult, he was frequently not where he was supposed to be, and there were occasions when he failed to show up for scheduled meetings without adequately communicating beforehand. We often had to chase him for updates, and when problems arose, responsibility was frequently shifted rather than addressed. We also felt taken advantage of financially. A substantial amount of material was purchased for our project that appeared to be far more than was needed. When we questioned what would happen to the leftover materials, we received a defensive and aggressive response and were told they belonged to him and would be taken. As homeowners unfamiliar with the contractor process, we felt our reasonable questions were treated as an inconvenience. The way we were treated when we advocated for ourselves was ultimately what caused us to walk away. As a woman, I found his tone and treatment toward me particularly troubling. I cannot speak for how he treats every woman, but I can speak to my own experience: I did not feel respected or treated professionally when I asked questions or challenged something that did not seem right. We ultimately hired another contractor, and the difference was significant. They were responsive, professional, transparent, and respectful. They gave us a better deal at essentially the same rate, including additional materials and work, and actually followed through on the timeline they provided. My advice to anyone considering this contractor: proceed with caution. Pay attention not only to how he treats you while earning your business, but how he treats you after the contract is signed. Get everything in writing, ask questions about materials and pricing, and pay close attention to how he responds when you advocate for yourself. For us, the biggest red flag was the dramatic change in behavior once he had our business. I would not hire him again, and I hope this review helps another homeowner make a more informed decision.

The project was a…read morere-roofing of a rather large home, which required removal of existing shingles, repair of any deteriorated wood under shingles and on the dormer, replacement of skylights, installation of shingles and flashing, total clean-up of all construction debris, and re-attachment of gutters and drain pipes at the completion of the job. The estimate was written in a plain and concise manner for which all services and materials were accounted. Wilson was not the cheapest estimate received, but not the most expensive either. Their presentation gave us much confidence in their craftsmanship ability. The project began close to projected start date and proceeded daily until completion. The employees were always cordial and respectful, showing up when they said they would and working a full day. We were always able to contact Pete on the phone if we had any concerns. My impression was that Wilson Const. cared about producing the product we were requesting. As projected in the estimate, all was completed and the site was totally cleaned up. While there was much additional work required for the replacement of bug infested wood in addition to the installation and both the structural and finish carpentry for the project, Wilson Const. charged a fair price for all the additional work. I, myself, have been in the building trades for most of my life and have since retired. Wilson Const. did not overcharge us for the additional work, though a company of less integrity would probably have tried.
