Dude is nice enough but definitely didn't do a full highlight, it was partial at best. He didn't cover my greys. He also didn't put the highlight mix right up to my scalp so now it already looks grown out, roots showing. I'll have to pay someone else to fix it and blend in the skunky chunks into the rest of my hair. *didn't ask for low maintenance, in fact other highlights I've gotten that have been subtle and taken longer to do grow out nicely and not starkly like this. I took this picture a week after, posted a review on Groupon shortly after the appt, but received no response. I get Sarry is trying to do as many haircuts & colors as he can as quickly as he can but for someone with super thick hair it takes longer to do a good job. Hopefully other people have different experiences. ‍

I got my favorite haircut of my life here! Sarry is very knowledgeable and sweet, and advised me on how to take my hip-length hair to a more flattering and voluminous looking cut. Thanks so much!

Popped in for a quick trim and Tomas was incredible. So accommodating and kind. Gave me a gorgeous trim and walked out feeling beautiful!

I came in with a Groupon and got baby lights for my first time (along with a light dusting on the ends). Tomas did an amazing job! I liked how he got as close to the root as possible, the toner he chose and overall how he handled my hair. I'll be back!

    what i came in with!

I came in with bleached, blonde hair with about 1/2 inches of my natural, dark brown hair growing in. (not even an inch) What I wanted was for it to be blended into my blonde hair so that the line wasn't so harsh. Oh, and a trim. No biggie right? So, I go over this with Sarry and he agrees to smudge my roots out. Maybe I should've been more firm but I'm not sure if me saying I want it only about an inch of smudge was not enough for him to understand that. I ended up with almost 4 inches of smudge! All the way to my eyes damn near! He said it would be up to my brows.. (a very general area) I had never, ever spent less time in a chair than I have with him. Granted I had a "simple" color process in Sarrys own words, but the way he was parting my hair and slapping the paint on my head made me feel so unappreciated. He then brushed the color out to my ears and spread the color much farther than I wanted it to be. At this point I am hesitant to say anything, and during my process, he schedules an appointment with another patron 45 minutes later, leaving him rushing with my appointment. After he washes my hair, it felt nice, but once he dried it it felt so dry again. I didn't like that every moment he got it was an infomercial for Kevin Murphy. While he actually cut my hair he was so fast. Maybe 10 minutes tops. The only part he was careful about was the undercut that was meticulously cut by my previous hairstylist. Even then, I still felt that it was rushed. In the end, he did what he wanted while taking what I said with a grain of salt. This was the most expensive haircut and color I had ever paid for yet I didn't feel like it. The way that I part my hair and style it I can do no further because the color is pulled down so far. Half of my hair length is dark. I came in with 1/2 INCH roots. I felt rushed. I didn't feel appreciated. Maybe it was because he had someone right after me, but even with that, he could've had them wait. Instead of spending so much time promoting Kevin Murphy why don't you listen to what your patron actually wants. I ended up coloring my hair somewhere else to fix the mess he did to my hair, and the stylist remarked that my hair was so choppy that it looked like I cut my own hair at home. Never returning here.

Ask the Community - SHY Salon And Spa

I see you charge $10 more for haircuts if hair is past the shoulders. I assume this applies to color as well. What would be a general expectation for the increase in price if getting a simple, darker, deposit single-process color for longer hair?

Hi there! Our normal color charge is $75, if we really have to mix a lot more it would be a $5-$10…

    How much for balayage?

    Starts at $150

My hair was damaged, uneven, and honestly I was scared to try again. Lira changed everything. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

What disappointed me most was not only the result, but the way my concerns were handled afterward. Instead of taking responsibility for the result and trying to understand why I was unhappy, the stylist repeatedly shifted the conversation toward blaming me. I was made to feel that the problem was somehow related to my language barrier and cultural differences in communication. At one point, the conversation even became about money and what I had paid for -- essentially, "You didn't pay for the whole highlight, right?" -- which felt completely inappropriate and shaming. I have never experienced this level of disrespect or lack of accountability in a beauty salon. I left feeling sad, embarrassed, and unwelcome, when I had simply come in expecting professional service and to be heard as a client. I want to be clear that I don't believe this experience represents the values of the entire salon or its owners. My issue is specifically with this individual stylist and the way he handled a situation when the result did not meet my expectations. I am sharing this so other women, especially those who may have a language or cultural communication difference, know to make sure their concerns are genuinely listened to and treated respectfully. A client should never be made to feel guilty or ashamed for expressing disappointment with a service.
