I love Thai Food, especially authentic Thai Food, and like to try pad Thai at every city I go to. I was disappointed in the pad Thai from this restaurant. Upon the first bite, I could tell that the sauce was I ketchup base. Ketchup is used in place of tamarind to Americanize and sweeten the dish. The dish wasn't terrible. But definitely not the great authentic pad thai flavors I prefer. Definitely not an authentic experience. The quality of the rest of ingredients seemed great. Siam table is my favorite Thai food place in all of Des Moines and Ankeny combined. I've been coming here since their first opening and will continue to visit many many moons from now. They have the kindest servers, the seating is a little small but makes it important that you a lot yourself time if you wish to sit. Wanted to try a new to us Thai restaurant in the Des Moines metro area and gave this place a shot based on reviews here. Sadly disappointed. We ordered the Dynamite Shrimp appetizer and shared Tom Kha soup with shrimp and the Tom Yum Pad Thai with tofu. The Dynamite Shrimp was a nice start -- crispy dumplings with flavorful shrimp filling. The Tom Kha included nicely sized shrimp but the soup's flavor was lacking. No hints of lemon grass, galangal or lime leaf. But it was packed with large pieces of onion and nearly past their prime mushrooms. The Pad Thai enticed with its menu description of Tom Yum spice, but sadly was also filled with too much onion and mushroom. There was no other vegetable in sight and no color other than the almost sickly sweet orange sauce which overdressed the noodles. We ordered medium spice on both dishes but felt no spice at all. Well we ordered it delivered. So I'm can't speak to anything but the food on this visit. We found Siam table shortly after moving to Ankeny. They only offered carry out and delivery at that time due to Covid, so we have never actually eaten at the restaurant. We have tried many different meals form here but always seem to gravitate towards the stir fry. The crab rangoon and the spring rolls are always crispy and delicious even when delivered. The portions are big and the quality is always consistently delicious. I know what I am having for lunch today...leftovers! :) If you are looking for a great option for Thai or Asian flavors they have a great menu and you never have to wait long! read more

I was out of town so I looked up on Yelp restaurants in the area. Thai sounded good so I tried this place. No dine in, ok I can get it to go. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai. 25 minutes wait I was told! Yikes! Ok so back to the car I went. They did look a little busy so that is a good sign. It was only about 15 minutes so that was good. After I got back to my hotel I was surprised to see a large serving, Ya! I was starving so I jumped in and I found it very dry and the shredded chicken was quite different from what I was use to. I asked for medium spice and that is what I felt I received. Was it good? Yes. Was it great? No. Will I go back if I was in town? Doubtful. read more

It looks like there was one person in the front and then the cook in the back.It's also about being realistic about the food I know this is not a high-end bistro. My guest and I were both first-timers here but both of us have experience and enjoying Thai in other Asian food. We both had pad Thai and it was very sweet. We were told that's how it's made. I didn't want to argue but I have choices as well. My friend just shrugged. There is lots of variety in the menu. So there might be other options to try but.... I said to my friend with so many good Asian options out there it may be some time before I give them a second chance, and he said sadly I agree. There are some tables with half booths and the rest are regular tables. The service was good. She was quick, efficient, and nice. She handled all of the tables and to-go orders. They have lunch specials where you can add two appetizer items (crab Rangoon, spring rolls or potstickers) for an additional charge of $3.00. The lunch portions were good and dinner portion was a great size. Easily two more meals for me. The Food: -Kid's Fried Rice: 3.5/5 It was good. Nothing bad or great about it but if your kids like fried rice, they will like this one -Spicy Eggplant & Asparagus Beef: 4/5 this was tasty with a "Spicy" Sweet Basil sauce. It wasn't spicy to me but it was good. I also don't prefer the lean beef in stir-fries because it tastes super dried out but I know a lot of people prefer this. Will get again -Cashew Beef: 3.5/5 This was good as well. Will probably get again if we go again. Lots of veggies but the sauce was a little light. Delicious nonetheless -Pad Thai Chicken: 3.5/5 Again, the lean meats isn't my thing but lots of people prefer it. It was just more on the dry side for me. Because I am a light-weight when it comes to the heat/spice index, I ordered as a 0 on a scale of 0-5. I am glad I didn't order with any higher number because there was plenty of flavor at the 0 level for my taste. My dining companions ordered dishes they enjoyed. The decor is warm and inviting. Due to the lack of space, there is not much privacy afforded so I wouldn't recommend for an intimate dinner, but it is a great place for lunch or a quick dinner out with family. Being my second visit to Siam Table I took a chance. I wasn't as hungry this time, and I knew that I really enjoyed the Paid Thai. You know that it is good when the foot traffic going in and out while you sit and enjoy your food is constant. Both times that I have been there people have been picking up take out. Today I just wanted soup. I decided to try Tom Yum for the first time. The waiter suggested chicken with the Tom Yum. A long with the Tom Yum my mother ordered the pineapple rice lunch meal and we ordered the healthy spring rolls. These not fried and fresh and delicious. The soup came out piping hot. Once it cooled it was very good. Hit the spot on the rainy November day. I got to steal a bit of the pineapple rice and it was really good. It had some really big shrimp in it too. I would suggest Siam Table to anyone. It is small inside but if you want to good food you can find a spot or get it to go. read more

The first time I got food from here, I got egg rolls which are usually hard to mess up but they are definitely lacking some flavor here. I also got red curry. Thai is my favorite cuisine so I was really sad when the red curry was missing that tang that Thai curries usually have. It was all around not great. I gave it another shot and I am glad I did. The egg rolls are still "meh" but the Siam Table Curry is so flavorful and complex. HIGHLY recommend if you like a little spice and rich curry flavors. read more

My mom had vegetable delight and it was so salty you could barely eat it. There is no sauce on the table and you have to ask for it. Chili paste was good. Appetizers were. It good either. This is my regular Thai place. Their Panang sauce is the absolute best! I highly recommend the lunch special as dinner prices have risen a lot in the last couple years. I loved the simple decor and cozy feel of the restaurant. There were two servers and each seemed friendly enough. I had the red curry because it has eggplant and I really like eggplant. It was really tasty. I got the 3 for heat and it was a tough spicier than I expected but it was edible since I am wuss when it comes to spicy food. The sauce was creamy and the peppers still had a bit of crunch. I would have liked more of the yellow peppers instead of so many green peppers but that is just a personal preference. Otherwise, the price was fair for a lunch, ($7.95) and it was served fairly quickly. My bf got the Angry Dish and really enjoyed it. It was savory and had some more veggies than the curry.
