So many wonderful features here: -free parking in two lots (that would NEVER happen in Vancouver) -a walk around the pond involves a flat trail, one foot bridge, and one stretch of boardwalk through a marshy patch -you never know what wild birds you might see and/or hear here (we saw a heron in the pond, and I heard the call of loons! For real!) -there is a lovely canopy of trees over the walking trail (which was very welcome, on the hot day I visited), and plenty of benches to relax along the way -there are areas of grassy meadow lands on small hills in areas by the walking trail, perfect for a picnic or throwing a frisbee on a nice day -my Toronto friend says sometimes she's seen people fishing in the pond! The "public" parking was half full, and they let in people they recognized but not strangers. The police were nasty, very aggressive, and threatened us. When I stopped a few times on the shoulders and entered one of their members-only parking lots to let my daughter use the washroom, they sent a police trooper in a vehicle to escort us from Simcoe County. This is the first time I was afraid for my life in Canada. Worse, this is funded by our tax money to defend public property from the public.

As to why it is called "Red Park", the only thing I can think of is that they hold the annual Strawberry Festival there, during the Canada Day long weekend. I was at that festival in 2022. The neighbouring streets were closed each time I've been there, but I've only been there twice, so don't take my work for it. There is no free WiFi. It is not wheelchair accessible. The parking is paid and can be paid for by either the parking meters installed at the park or through the website (the QR code on the meters or use the site https://parkedin.com/?). It's all beautifully laid, you can see people kayaking, rowing, etc. it's a quiet park, I'd say. As you can see, the sunset views are astonishing. I just couldn't take my eyes off of it. Decided that thanks to COVID that I would explore more of the trails/parks that are close by…read more About 1.5 hrs from Toronto, this is a great hiking spot with good paths marked (although watch out for the horse poop!) and great views. There are multiple trails (named/colour coded), but the blue marked trail seems to be the "main" trail. I think the green trail takes you up to the viewing platform where you get some lovely views - I can only imagine when the leaves start changing colour - it must be epic! There is a map slightly into the entrance - i took a photo of it so I could see how all the different paths interconnected. Fairly large parking lot - you can only pay for either 4hrs or all day parking - there is no option to pay for anything less (but luckily it is not too expensive). I came on a random weekday so it was pretty dead - which was perfect! Lots of bugs so bug spray is a must. There really isn't any sitting areas - ie - no picnic areas/grass areas/benches to sit...it's definitely more of a walk walk hike hike area. Overall, it's a fairly easy and enjoyable hike. I'd love to come back in the fall and see the changing scenery!

The complete 8 km walking trail was boring for me as much of it is not covered be trees and it was a hot day. The part that is covered is good. But the only issue is it relatively flat and this does not add any challenges. There is paid parking and many people also park near Home Hardware and a grocery store.

Our contact, Meghan, has been super awesome about handling all of our random questions leading up to the ceremony and has been super accommodating. The park itself is really lovely, right on the lake. They also have an amphitheatre over the water at the beach area which is available to book for functions (this is where we are going to get married). We really wanted to find a place in nature without having to drive too far from the city - this was the perfect spot for us!

Don't forget to go to all the three kilns and also the "hole in the wall". Gives a good adrenaline rush for a short time. The walk amongst the rocks is calling as well and when you reach up you see all the crevices that you can jump. Be careful there as we saw some hats, sun glasses etc at the bottom that once fallen there is no way getting them back. Some hidden spots that are just amazing for camping, but alas there is no camping allowed. (Video uploaded). One last plus for this location you don't pay any parking fees.

There are a couple of day-use lots on the outside of the actual park for locals to use, I don't believe you can drive into the park proper to use it for day use. At the time we visited, Orillia was close to peak color, so it was a fantastic time. It was a nice day for a hike, and there were quite a few other people using the park as well -- there's a little beach area in the day use part as well as a playground and places for taking your dog on leash. We went and followed the trails in the park, there seems to be a few that can be used, one in the treeline and one along the lake. You can make a decent little loop of a couple of kilometers. There's nothing incredibly challenging about this little hike, to be honest, but the tree colors make for some gorgeous photos. I'll definitely want to come back and visit here and go camping during the season. A really lovely provincial park!
