I had to put myself on tape for a TV costar audition, and chose Side Pocket Station because of their very reasonable pricing and immediate availability. The studio is quite nice, if small--be prepared to wait in your car or the hallway, as they warn you in their thorough and clear confirmation email--and Steven is very conscientious about explaining his policies and method of working. Steven is efficient with his equipment and makes sure to focus the camera for every take, so no time is wasted. Be sure to take advantage of their generous offer to look at your sides in advance. Other reviewers have complimented on how prepared the readers are. I signed up very last minute and assumed they wouldn't have time to look at anything, but I would say to send your sides over no matter what. I was somewhat surprised when he hadn't heard of the show I was auditioning for, and surprised he hadn't seen the very famous show I used as a reference, but noting how prepared he was in other aspects, I assume that given time, he would have known both. If you plan to edit your audition yourself, bring a USB drive to get the files. Steven offered this to me, since he sends compressed files, but I didn't have one with me. The quality of the initial Dropbox files was too low to edit, but he was willing to send me a bigger file later in the day, for which I was grateful. Give yourself 24 hours, though in my case it came earlier. Note that they put their company logo at the front of your file, rather than the end. Check with your agent if this is acceptable to the casting director. SPS seems to have done a lot of work, so it may be fine, it's just not something I'd seen it before. In all, for the price and ease of scheduling, Side Pocket Station is a good bet. I would absolutely try them again if I could schedule in time for them to review the sides. read more

First of all, he asks how hands on you'd like him to be. I said I was open for all feedback. He has great notes and opinions and asks you questions that help add to your performance. He even asks if you'd like him to read the lines straight/ no emotion or if you'd like him to play back. He told me the uploads would take about a day, but I got them 2 hours later. Lucky me! I must join the chorus of others when I say that Steven is absolutely the greatest ever!!! I always tease him that he should be an acting coach because the feedback he gives is spot on. He has a sixth sense about characters and where the scene needs to go. To be honest I kinda feel like when I book, I need to cut him a check because of the great direction he gives (smile). I can't say enough wonderful things about Side Pocket Station - such a tremendous help for my acting reel. I've had more audition's than ever since posting the latest version that Steven helped me with. Steven has a wonderful energy, and made editing my reel a piece of cake! He knows so many tricks I never would have known how to do on my own. He was able to change my footage to a higher quality, and was even able to change the color and touch up flaws in certain shots. I was able to sit along beside him while he edited, and he always let me choose what scenes I want in which order. I went to him because he's a professional and knows what casting directors are looking for. I asked his advice and felt comfortable with his suggestions to make it better. It was very affordable (many of us are "starving actors" so it's difficult to afford all the things we NEED to get ourselves started in the business). He was even helpful after he finished the job. I'm terrible with technology and answered my questions in a timely manner. I'm very happy I decided to work with him and plan to in the future when I gather more footage. He also has a screen and other equipment for self tapes which I plan on using the next time I have to submit myself that way in an audition. Was just there to self-tape for Z Nation (five pages, heavy dialogue) and have used SPS and Steven for many auditions in the past. Steven gets it, gets what an actor needs, understands the pressure and how important it is for things to look and sound good. He'll do take after take with me and never flag in effort or his commitment to getting the take I feel great about. My favorite thing about Steven is the balance he strikes in the studio between being personable and professional. You've got to have both to do your best work.
