They don't offer day passes or week long passes. Very unenthused staff when I spoke with them over the phone.

MEMBERS FILMING THEMSELVES HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HANDS!…read more I'm writing this because I'm really concerned about some issues I've been having at the YMCA related to aggressive behavior and people filming on their cell phones. On September 13th, I had a horrible experience with another gym member. I was walking to the turf area to do walking lunges when I accidentally walked past a member's phone that was on the floor, he was filming his set and had his phone angled towards the walkway. I didn't see the phone on the floor near the squat racks, and I didn't realize I was in the way. After reaching the turf, I noticed another member filming there, so I walked back towards the smith machine. As I walked past the squat racks again, the guy recording, who looked to be in his early twenties, turned around and confronted me aggressively. He said, "Are you happy now?" Confused, I replied, "Excuse me?" He then repeated, "Are you happy now?" and continued, "I know you did it on purpose for attention!" He was pointing to his phone, and his tone was very intimidating. All I could manage to say at that moment was, "I'm sorry, I didn't see it." He then grabbed his phone and stormed off. Thinking he was gone, I decided to finish my last exercise. However, about five minutes later, I saw him back at the squat rack, glaring at me in the mirror, which made me feel unsafe. I decided to leave the gym floor rather than risk further issues. I considered going to the front desk but chose not to because I had a similar issue months ago, and the staff didn't address it properly. This is the second time in a year that I've felt unsafe due to aggressive behavior from members filming their workouts. I joined the YMCA because I believed it would be a welcoming place for all ages and fitness levels. While I'm comfortable working out in a male-dominated space, these filming incidents have been problematic. The gym is not a filming studio, I'm just trying to work out, all I did was walk by. The YMCA needs to address this issue. Considering that my previous complaint was ignored, I'm posting this review to warn potential members and will also be reaching out to corporate as well. The YMCA is supposed to be a family environment, and it's important for the gym to be a safe and respectful place for everyone.

I joined BlkOps in December of 2017. Prior to joining, I was a member of the Y for years. More…read moreoften than not, I paid for the Y without actually going, and when I did actually make it there, it was only to use the treadmill--literally only the treadmill--because I was scared and intimidated and it was the only piece of equipment I knew how to use. I immediately felt at home at BlkOps. The owners, Antonio and Kelly, and their team of coaches all supported me and helped me to grow. In my 2+ years there, I have learned SO much about lifting weights, conditioning, eating nutritionally, and feeling confident in myself. Now, when I am away from home, I feel confident in writing myself a challenging and effective workout and in marching directly into a hotel gym to execute it. And I don't even touch the treadmill. On top of all that I have learned at BlkOps, I have gained some incredible friendships. Each member of the gym inspires me daily and helps make the gym feel like a home away from home. Because of these people and because of the challenging workouts that we persevere through together, going to the gym is now my favorite part of the day. I've gone from basically donating my money to the Y to working out on an almost daily basis. Oh, and also, I look a lot better now than when I first joined. If you're looking to build on your existing fitness knowledge (whether you are a complete novice like I was or whether you already have a lot of experience), if you want to be challenged daily, if you want to join an incredible community, and if you want to look and feel dramatically better, BlkOps is the gym for you!

Having recently worked out there myself, I can say I easily agree. The Owner, Antonio, was immediately welcoming. While the space is not incredibly big, you can quickly see that every nook and cranny has been thoughtfully and strategically utilized. The equipment is fresh and clean and the classes are never over crowded. Those that I worked out with were equally welcoming and encouraging up until the workout was through. I highly recommend BlkOps if you are new to the area or looking for a gym to surround yourself with great people and great workouts.

But, even understaffed they keep the place pretty clean. The tanning beds are great and they offer booths if you want. I've also never had an issue getting the message chair or water bed when I am looking to cool down after a workout. Plenty of locker spaces and it's a bigger location so even if it's crowded, you can find a spot. They don't have a ton of the same machines, so if someone's working you may have a wait for a certain machine especially during peak hours. This location also doesn't have free weight benches.

After all, you really need to temper your expectations for a gym membership that costs only $10 a month. It's conveniently open 24 hours a day 4 days a week, the regular staff/employees all seem like decent people, and there is a wide variety of machines (I get that there are no free weights or classes, but those aren't my thing). You get what you pay for. . . . The bigger issues are (i) the gym allowing itself to be the de facto gym for outside trainers (at least one of whom does not wipe the machines down after use, and attempts to intimidate other members), and (ii) a manager who is completely non-responsive in terms of returning multiple phone calls and who refuses to address issues under the auspices of not knowing the facts of what is going on at the gym.

Recapping my experience training at Art Fitness gym is something that is actually pretty difficult…read more Difficult because, truly, I do not know where to start. But I guess the best place to start are the days leading up to my first session. I was in the beginning weeks of my senior year of high school, and all throughout my first three years, I was just a quiet kid. I did not always say much, and because of this I did not have many friends. I struggled with this a lot because my personality is NOT quiet or shy in any way. So, as I started senior year, I wondered why I just could not put myself out there, and be a social person. One day, my parents asked me why I seemed sad or depressed, I told them. My lack of confidence as a person had been holding me back these past years, and because of it I was not where I wanted to be in high school. I look in the mirror, and I do not like what I see, which leads to me just sitting in the back of classes, going home right after school, basically hiding. I tell you this part of my life because, although it is sad, those days are gone. Within a week after telling my parents how I was feeling, I signed up for a personal trainer at Art Fitness. My first day there, I met the leader of the gym, Alisa Rose, and I do not know if she knows this, but she made one of the best decisions possibly ever made. She told me that she could be my trainer, but she thought I would do better with a different trainer at the gym, a younger guy named Byshi Watson. That is a decision that changed my life. The next day I started at Art Fitness, training with Byshi, and truthfully I gained an older brother that day. As time passed, my body began to change for the better, I started gaining confidence, liking what I was seeing in the mirror. The rest of senior year I found myself being the social person I wanted to be, and that is the person I always knew I was. Nothing was holding me back anymore. The best part was, training and working out was not something I was dreading. In the past, every time I tried to go the gym myself, I just hated it. It was not fun, I felt like I was doing everything wrong, the minutes dragged by. At Art Fitness, I looked forward to working out. Byshi challenged me in a lot of ways, I had never been so sore, and I do not wish those sprints in the parking lot on my worst enemy! Even with the challenge, I enjoyed it so much, because the whole time I was truly just hanging out with a great friend, a big brother. Whether we were talking about music, or how much we hate Kevin Durant and the Warriors, we were always just having a good time. Byshi is the best trainer I could have asked for. He wants you to reach your goals, and he shows you how to do everything you need to do. At college, I show some of my friends the exercises he showed me at the school gym. I learned so much from him. Not only did he help me improve my body through exercise, he taught me the right things to eat and drink on a daily basis. He gave a meal plan that made a huge difference for me and helped me lose weight. His knowledge of fitness and nutrition is something I could always count on, I felt like I could ask any question and get an informed answer. I have stayed training with Byshi, three years later, and even though it is on and off as I attend college in New York City, Byshi is still someone I can go to with any problem in my life at any time. I could never really thank Byshi and the people at Art Fitness enough, training here changed my whole life. It made me into the confident person I always wanted to be, the confident person I am today. I will be forever grateful for that.
