This review is strictly regarding the Aquatics Complex at Sierra college. The USA swimming team that calls this place home hosts meets at this location on a regular basis. First the facility has been great for location for short course meets as they have a 10 lane 25 yard pool as well as a warm up pool. The site has ample parking as well as the equipment to handle these types of meets. During meets they use the lower decks of the garage so that swimmers can set up chairs and tents and this is an awesome feature especially when it is wet and rainy. This still leaves the entire parking structure open. The only issue that the aquatics complex has is that there are not enough bathrooms for larger competitions. Otherwise it has all the other amenities you would like for swim meets! read more

I went to Sierra College from 1995 until 1998, with the odd botany class thrown in right before I graduated from Sac State. It was a great school then with a diverse student body, wonderful teachers all active in their fields of instruction, and the counselors and staff were very helpful and efficient. My son is now a freshman there, and while it's nice that he's a second generation Wolverine in a nice new dorm room, the school has drastically gone downhill. Many of the staff in the administration and financial aid departments are rude and unhelpful, most of the classes are now of a middling quality, and a cursory glance at the school would make an outsider think the place is a PSA for LBGTQ allyship. Are there any other clubs on campus? InterVarsity? Debate club? Language club? We don't know. They might have flyers on some bulletin board somewhere, but it's hard to say. Meanwhile, LBGTQ gets a dedicated room in the cafeteria, the school goes out of its way to promote itself as a safe place, and Weaver Hall, which used to house math classes and is now the Humanities building, is full of Pride-related signage and a giant Pride flag. Oh, and let's not forget the display case of vibrators prominently featured on the second floor. I hate to say it, but I can't in good conscience recommend Sierra anymore. LGBTQ might be safe there, but anyone else? Maybe, maybe not. If anyone's Christian, Muslim, or even remotely right of the political center, very likely not, because heaven forbid anyone disagree with the school's politics. Even Gertrude Stein and Walt Whitman would probably look at this place and say, "OK, we get that you're allies. There's more to life, though, people." read more

The parking here is ridiculous. I got a ticket, after purchasing a permit from a nearby kiosk. Apparently the lot was only for dorm parking. This was a new thing and not clear since the dorms had recently opened. So frustrating!! read more

This college is so frustrating because their online class availability is fantastic but their online platform is HORRIBLE. I have to reset my password on a regular basis. Sometimes multiple times a day (I'd say usually). When I went to drop a class before the refund and w deadline, they had changed servers AGAIN so I did not even have access to the right button to drop. When I emailed the tech support, they told me I needed to email them from my school email due to security measures. When I went to login to my school email FROM MY MYSIERRA WHICH I WAS ALREADY LOGGED INTO it kicked me out again for getting my password wrong. Absolutely impossible. Not only is the technical setup a joke, but my professor had a format where you could not even access the next week's material if you had not completed one of the assignments. Ok, so you can't have a less than perfect submitted rate in order to even have access to the next week's material? God forbid you try to complete online course work on the schedule you are able to. I'm so livid that this is actually the second or third semester that technical difficulties have completely ruined the experience and my ability to thrive in a course. I have a full time job and a family that relies on me, I shouldn't have to spend hours out of my week just trying to login to my course only to find that I can't do my homework because I missed a locked discussion. read more

Let me start with this is the worst community college ever. Do not waste your time or money going here. My counselors screwed me over by having me take unnecessary classes in a horrible order leaving me with all my science classes at the end. Then they tell you it's not recommended to take more than once science class at once. This was the first community college I have been to and I spent two years here. I then went to two other community colleges and Sierra doesn't even compare. It really just showed me that they do not know anything. Nobody knows what they are doing or how to set us up for success. All they care about is getting more students in and having them take a bunch of stupid classes for money. Also, one of the worst schools at getting your transcripts. I continuously have issues with getting my transcripts from them. When you try to call you get the automated options and you aren't able to talk to someone from the directory. You only talk to "student ambassadors" that don't know anything and don't have access to anything. This place is a freaking joke. Wish I could get this place shut down. read more

Their phone system is a joke. You could wait for 30+ minutes while the automated message tells you what caller you are and then sometimes it drops you or other times it tells you it can't take your call. There has been multiple times (like today) where I've went from caller 5 to 1 only to wait on hold for nothing. read more

I am just going to start with, this place suckss, the couselors are POINTLESS. They only want as much money as they can get and do not care about your career or education. I started here right after highschool, I wanted to be a government and economic teachers and spoke to a counselor about what courses I need in order to achieve this and transfer to sac state. After THREE YEARS of taking courses for political science degree that I was told were needed. This month I got accepted into sac state for a political science degree. After speaking with a different counselor at sierra college today I found out that i do not need a political science degree or any of the courses i have been spending money, time, and energy on. So pretty much my career is fucked, so thank you sierra college for being the shittest junior college. Way to take my money and fuck my career read more

Student Services doesnt actually service the students. Not a single person was helpful when I called, one of the counselors did not understand what I needed, though was very specific, and even pushed me away from the school to pursue another within the the Los Rios chain. No one asked if I needed assistance while in line, or smiled or greeted. Clearly a FOR PROFIT school doesnt know what customer service is. Sadly the graduation rate reflects that... 27% And degree completion takes 1.5 times longer than normal. read more

Class of 2008. So many great things about Sierra College. I found a great counselor, and I wish I could remember her name. I got transferred to Sac State no problem, just took a little longer than I originally intended. Tips: Rosenberger for Stats. Fun and you'll actually enjoy math. Professor Hunter's film classes are a real treat. Don't, for the love of God, ever take a class with Dick Hilton, Science dept. He thinks he's teaching 8th graders or something. Not allowed to go to the bathroom even if you're projectile vomiting. Fun to pay costly tuition to listen to a grumpy old guy get on his repetitive soap box daily and treat you like dirt if you ask a question. Parking always sucked, but there was a transit system. You can also arrive early enough to snag a spot if you're going to be stuck there all day. That was kind of a pain, but there were ways around it. The upper lot used to be a good spot to park. This is a great community college. It is a nice campus with the pretty red, orange, and green and yellow leaves and nice scenery. They offer great classes and nice faculty. I've been going here since the year 2012 and i am still going here as of now. I have gotten two AA degrees, one in Applied art and design and the other one in Illustration and Art. Just started going here and I already love it! Going for an AS-U in Mathematics and all of the professors have been great! There was an English professor that was questionable about her teaching skills and priorities, but for the most part its great! The facilities are all very nice especially with the new math and Science building (Building V)! I would highly suggest attending a different community college. This college is so poorly managed it's not even worth wasting your money and time. Your education is not valued here. Staff are horrible with communication, they never bother to reach out to you when needed. They call your personal phone number and make excuses about Covid shutdowns but they never adress your concerns. Online courses due to Covid are poorly ran and lack proper engagement with the students who paid for an education. Assignments are improperly loaded, they often are missing attachments, and are unable to be downloaded without some external software add ons. Instructors lack professional courtesy as they often ignore emails, make excuses for their lack of grading assignments on time, and refuse to make adjustments for students who need them most. The instructors don't care about anything other than a paycheck, and it's becoming increasingly obvious each semester. On top of all that, Enrollement Services is extremly pathetic, they can't get any documents secured, they fail to mention payments, and they often leave you in the dark about how the process works before you even step foot on campus. It is very frustrating trying to get anyone who works at this college to do their damn job, staff are extremly neglagent and never do what they are supposed to. Don't bother talking to the Dean about any instructor you have problems with, as they always side with the instructor. Overall the performance of this college is weak and embarrassing. My education and many others were not valued here. Staff should be ashamed and embarrassed to work here. I highly suggest you attend a different community college. read more

This school is run so terrible, there is no way to contact anyone above a student and yet all these administrators are putting our tuition in their pockets. All these late night classes and all the facilities here close super early, cafeteria lounge with all the vending machines locked at 7, but classes run until 10. Do not go here. I have had numerous nightmare stories including Sierra dropping me from classes for NO reason, the system not allowing me to sign up for basic freshman classes that don't even have prerequisites, and the most recent fuck up from them is that I received a 96% in a class, which is an A. But my teacher accidentally put my grade in as a C. I sent my teacher the grade change petition to correct my grade within Sierra's one-year deadline for grade changes, and she took care of it. Since then, my grade is still not changed back to an A and they will not give me my rightfully earned grade, even though I submitted the grade change on time!! Multiple employees there have told me different things regarding this and all I can do is hope nursing schools I'm applying to overlook this. Double bird to you Sierra. I have not started at the school just yet, so my review is in regards to admin/records and the veterans office. I have paid $25 on two separate occasions to have my transcripts sent to the college and both times, they were mysteriously "never received". I would suggest you getting a second official transcript sent to your address just in case they "never received" it and just ensure you don't open it. The second part is for the veterans office. If you are active duty and are looking for guidance as to where to start, don't waste your time going to the veterans office. The information that was given to me, is the same information that is on the website and I have been consistently given wrong information from the veterans in regards to things that pertain directly to military members, resulting in me having to make multiple trips to the school from an hour away to turn in, now-late paperwork, keeping my fingers crossed that it get processed before the semester stars. If you go to the Sierra website search engine and type in veterans, everything you need to know will pop up. My suggestion would be to get as much information you can get from a non-veteran counselor as the information is more general and you will know what applies and what doesn't. From my experience, it is perceived that everything concerning veterans is foreign to the HUB members and they will send you straight to the veterans office. read more

It's been ages since I've stepped onto a college campus, I use to visit a lot more when I went there many years ago. Now it has expanded so much the buildings are nice, parking if you do not get there either for first morning classes or evening classes its very hard to find a spot. I had to visit a counselor the other day she was very helpful and I am glad I had the opportunity to come back to Sierra as a returning student. I look forward to many more visits. read more

When you leave a message, they won't call you back. If you are a woman or even a man, certain professors WILL discriminate towards you based on gender alone. I can rip on almost everything in Rocklin, but one thing I will always have high admiration for is this school. I spent 4 semesters plus 2 summers here and I loved it. Intelligent, laid back teachers who like what they do. Learned a load and transferred with no problems to SDSU. During my time here I was fortunate to have some of the most legendary teachers at the school. This includes but is not limited to: Bocchicchio, Butterfield, Defoe, Heisinger, Read, Hunter, Sullivan, and Lucero. You get what you put out here; if you're on a mission to transfer out or get an AS degree in 2 years, you gotta work for it, but the rewards will show. The teachers here WANT you to pass. They WANT you to move on to bigger and better things. The student body is just eh. You're going to get a lot of idiots who barely passed high school and have no higher aspirations for themselves, you're going to get a lot of people who are on the 10 year plan here, and you'll also get some people who you wish will play in the busy traffic out on Rocklin Road. And holy crap stop complaining about parking. There's a whole empty lot by the baseball field. Yeah, you have to walk a little bit, boo hoo. But you won't get a better education than what you can get here. You'll save a lot of money, you'll have a lot of quality teachers and good classes/times, and overall the experience will be unforgettable. read more

I just graduated from Sierra College. This school is a mediocre community college, at best. If you want a certain class, good luck getting it! 30 spots and 20 people on the waitlist within a day of class registration opening. Another con is counseling--don't expect them to know what they're talking about. Grab one of those blue or green sheets stating what classes are needed to transfer to CSU or UC and use assist.org to see what classes are required or recommended to the school you want to go to. They steer you in the wrong direction if you don't stand up for yourself. I took almost 70 units in 2 years here, and probably half of the teachers were okay. Some were absolutely horrendous. One teacher (his first semester teaching) had no idea what he was doing, one teacher yelling and slamming things because someone in the class clicked the damn mouse while he was talking, one teacher graded me poorly because she was homophobic (yeah, I saw other people's essays that were horribly written, with incorrect punctuation, not answering the prompt, improper spelling, etc. and they got better grades than me). There's a few life changing teachers here (that I took): Corey Morgan (Administration of Justice (he was such a great teacher, people were crying the last day of class)), Mary Beth Pattengale (Math (one of the sweetest women in the world)), ​Iraj Sabzevary (Sociology (funny, honest, feels like a TED talk every single class, and has an incredible voice), and Lori Kearney-Capaul (Human Development (amazing woman, makes class so comfortable, super funny, and honestly cares about every single student)). If you have the chance to take them, I highly recommend it. They make college fun and are great people. read more

I think this community college is ok. I attended for a few years 04-05 semesters. I hear attendance is up and parking is a little worse but classes are still good. There are a variety of teachers and teaching-types here. DeFoe, Hunter, Archer, Molina-Steiger are all easy to listen to and know what they are doing, plus some. I had a hard time with classes in psychology and and earth science class.. the information in textbooks and what was taught in class with projectors etc. didn't exactly correlate and test were tough. I think it's a place you get what you put into it. Most professors are easy to contact via e-mail and very approachable. Most are passionate about the subject they teach and have good to lot's of knowledge. As far as students and community aspect; pretty nonexistent for me. i didn't make any friends, didn't join any clubs, and most people stayed to themselves in class. If you're looking to easily meet people and network this isn't the school for you. I never stepped foot in the cafeteria and was in the library very few times. Registration was easy and the admin here is well-functioning. read more

From 2010 to 2012 I worked on my AA Degree in Deaf Studies. I love this school and have enjoyed almost all of my instructors. Despite the cut in ASL classes, I am very happy with my education here. I am taking my transfer units at Sierra this Spring semester to go to Sac state in the fall. From the beginning it's been a hassle!! My boyfriend was discharged from the army and immediately signed up for classes at Sierra College the financial aid absolutely sucks they lost all the papers that were needed for FAFSA twice!! After a couple weeks of not getting any notifications we went into financial aid to see what was going on and that's when they said that there was supposed to be flags on the account in the financial aid area. However I personally looked at his account and there were no flags until after us going into the financial aid office. It is almost at the end of the disbursements for the FAFSA and they still haven't even fixed it so we're hustling around trying to get all the rest the papers that they've lost. Make sure you make copies of everything you give them and date them. On the upside the vet center is pretty awesome and they try to help the best they can. As well as the professors are ok, beware of the online professors they aren't that great. read more

Sierra College is a great place to get an education whether your out of high school or you have a few years behind you. When it comes local community colleges, having the ability to work with the best teachers in the best environment is key to growth as a student. I've been to the big university setting and it is not the best. Sitting in classrooms full of 800 plus students is never appealing, especially if you want a personal connection with the teacher. At Sierra, the teachers are great. All of the teachers I've had classes with have had a lot of real world application to know truly what their talking about. It's important to know your only working with the best teachers. In the past, I've often times worried about not having the best teachers or instruction. The location is pretty good. The school is located in Rocklin, CA. Rocklin is small town north of Roseville, off the I-5 freeway. I've had no issues with the city of Rocklin or finding a parking spot. It is hard to think of negative aspects about Sierra, but there are so few. The only thing I can think of that isn't the best is how foul some of the students are. There are some snooty people, but they are a small representation. Majority of the people I've encountered have been, nice humble people. If your considering a small community college, Sierra may be just the fit you need. The best thing to do would be to get a campus tour of all the facilities, it's what I did and it helped. read more

Sierra CC is alright. It's a community college, and basically.. you get what you expect. I took a few semesters of courses here on top of my time at CSUS and generally enjoyed it. All of my professors were really great and you can tell they loved their work. The student body, on the other hand, was pretty awful and made it almost unbearable to go to class on a daily basis. The library was decent and the cafeteria/hanging out area was pretty awful. If I were still in California I'd probably go back here or recommend others to do so, as my experience was mostly positive. read more

Great place to take a few pre-requisites or summer classes to keep you on your toes. The classes are easy and they're a fun activity to do with a friend. I don't see the point in getting your AA here if you plan on on getting your BA, BS, MA, MS, etc. I would just go to a University. The whole "but I'm saving money by getting my pre-reqs done before I go to a UC or State School" is a farce. Every single person I know that has taken this approach has had to retake classes as not all of them will transfer and if you really do finish your AA in 2 years, its still going to take you at least 3 years at whichever school you transfer to. *Overall* Great place for summer classes but don't put all your eggs in this basket by planning on getting your AA here. read more

This review is for the library only as I am not a student (my sister is though). I've been trying to pass an exam that is famous for it's high *sacrasm* pass rate (i.e. last October's exam had a 9.1% pass rate). This is the library that swayed me from studying at home. I had no idea that I can get so much done by studying at the library!!! It's QUIET and there are tons of perfect sized tables for me to study at. I LOVE this library. First semester here....Student body is pleasant. Most of my classes we dont converse too much, the kids keep to their established group. With the exception of my spanish class which has become like a little family. Ms. Ullery for Spanish one or 2 next sem (spring 09) is FANTASTIC! she just wants you to try, and will help as much as possible...very funny. hehe. HUYNH, CHAU for art 4A is a BAD CHOICE..she is nice but impossible to understand...I suppose if you have no fear of consistantly asking questions go for it...I just feel like she keeps telling me, Draw lines..more shading but doesn't explain what im doing wrong and how to fix it...sheesh. Sean Booth for Geography is awesome. I've got culture geography and he makes it super easy to pass..puts notes online tells you what to star so you know it will be on the test. Plus he is just funny. I care about my education and the teachers there care about education/ "teaching" too. Wonderful teachers, there is only one I didn't really care for and she had just started teaching there so whatever (one student however did yell at this teacher for giving "hard" assignments- umm Wow). 5 stars for education, although I would say it is a little easier than ARC (except for the online classes) I felt that it was definitely more like a Uni in style as there was less work and therefore mess ups counted more. (Most ARC teachers give a lot of work for a lot of points*) Students: (Can't dock a point for what can't be helped) Didn't get along with most of the students- in ARC and Sac there's a lot of older more serious people but here it's mainly younger and it just makes me sad for the younger generation as they are a bunch of entitled, spoiled brats- (and this is in Roseville which is a nicer area !) I am a very honest person and I know some students over there constituted that as rude, but their feelings shouldn't be hurt so easily. For instance: when I had to give feedback to assignments some students seemed annoyed at my criticism. There are some nicer more diligent students too but it seems the majority there are the kind that have parents paying for college and don't take it seriously...wasting money, UGH! read more
