From the very beginning, the care, structure, and intention behind this Montessori program were evident. Mrs. Ashly and Ms. Sharron are true blessings. Their patience, consistency, and genuine love for the children show in everything they do. They don't just teach, they nurture, guide, and truly see each child as an individual. Knowing my child is safe, understood, and encouraged every day brings a level of peace that is priceless. Because of them, my child is thriving emotionally, socially, and academically. The team here is so much more than educators--they are like family. From day one, my children have been cared for, loved, and encouraged to explore the world around them. My oldest child still loves to wear his Arbor View Montessori school shirt. My wife's thoughts: Lydia is personable and organized. School was clean and safe. My thoughts: Staff: Lydia, the owner/operator and head teacher, is the heart and soul of this place and is heavily involved in the daily activities for kids 3 years old and older (she has other staff who run the nursery which is part of the school). She has a strong personality and the children listen to her. (My wife and I toured another daycare center in the area before deciding on this one and the kids there were running through the building unsupervised; we watched one of the kids there grab a piece of pizza from a pizza box that was for the staff and then walk away without staff even noticing. Having spent time in Lydia's school during the day, I can confidently say that sort of thing wouldn't happen at Arbor View Montessori.) She and her staff teach the kids how to behave. There was staff turnover, but that is normal in a post-covid world and is at least partly due Lydia having high standards for her employees, like being Montessori-trained in addition to being trained in early childhood education, i.e., having ECE units. Discipline: The children here listen to the staff. Lydia runs a tight ship. While my kids were attending, I did not see or hear of any staff there administering corporal punishment to my kids or anyone else's kids. When I asked Lydia if she had any suggestions about getting kids to behave, she recommended the book Positive Discipline by Dr. Jane Nelsen. Education: This place is more like a school than a daycare. Lydia teaches the kids all sorts of things; both academic and otherwise. For example, she taught my older child how to write letters and also how to pump his legs to swing on the swings. The latter is notable because it shows that even when Lydia is out in the playground watching kids at recess, she looks for opportunities to teach kids things. The nursery staff there taught my younger child how to put away toys and also started teaching her how to eat with utensils. Activities: There are field trips to the zoo and the pumpkin patch, a Mother's Day tea, and plays/performances/potlucks for families to attend. Several kids from the school invited my oldest child to their birthday parties. Technology: Lydia is "old school" in a good way. Other than playing classical music recordings for the kids, she doesn't use educational technology with the kids. No screentime, movies, or TV at all. Huge plus. Prices: My children (an infant and a preschooler) went to school here from August 2023 through October 2024. In the time my kids were there, prices were only raised once, at the beginning of the fall term, and the increase was minimal. There are three prices based on age range: 0-2 years (infants), 2-3 years (toddlers), and 3+ years old (preschoolers). The CPI increased by 2.53% from August 2023 to August 2024, but the rates did not increase accordingly in August 2024. The monthly infant rate stayed the same ($1,580.45 per month) and the monthly pre-school rate increased by $43.30, or 3.4%, from $1,277.35 to $1,320.65. The combined annual increase in tuition for my two children from August 2023 to August 2024 was 1.51%, or 1.02% less than the CPI increase over that time period. When I asked Lydia why the infant rate did not increase, she said she didn't want to increase the most expensive rate because she knew it was hard enough for families to afford daycare and she didn't want to make it harder. She also said she did not raise prices during Covid for the same reason, which is notable as the previous daycare my oldest child attended, Childtime Of Roseville, raised prices at least three times during Covid, citing inflation. Prices do not include diapers or lunch - you must provide both. Also, if your child is 3 or older, you may be asked to bring a snack once a month or so for the entire class. Here are my older child's comments when I told him I was writing a review and asked him if he'd like to add anything: "I'd like to go back. I wanna go back to school because I love going outside for recess and then eating lunch and doing jobs. I like doing all that." ("Jobs" is the term Lydia uses for hands-on educational activities the kids can choose to do.) And then as an afterthought he said: "I like the swings too, daddy. Can you please put that too?"

When I say beautiful, I mean the materials the children get to interact with every day are next level. Everything feels so intentional, carefully chosen and really aligned with the Montessori method. Our daughter has attended Rocklin Ranch Montessori from 16 months old through age four, with some pauses along the way while I stayed home with her and later had two more girls. But we have always come back to Rocklin Ranch, and Aman and the teachers who have had our girls have been excellent. One of the best parts of the school is the communication. They send daily updates, especially for children in the 16 month to 3 year age range, and weekly photos. Their newsletter is wonderful and keeps parents updated and it is so special to regularly see photos of your child with their friends throughout the week. They also have a great skills chart where they track what your child is learning and working on. The outdoor play area and playground are gorgeous. There is a beautiful little garden and outdoor space where the children get to eat lunch and the whole environment feels sweet, calm and thoughtfully cared for. I also really appreciate that the children have the opportunity to nap for up to 2.5 hours, which is such a gift for young kids. They also have an option for the girls to play soccer during the day, which has been really great for our family and has simplified the need to put them in an extra soccer program after school or on weekends. Their pick up and drop off hours are also extremely flexible which has been so helpful for us. We currently have two daughters enrolled in Montessori and one of the sweetest parts is that they get to see each other during the day. That has honestly changed childcare for us, just knowing that they are both there together and near each other, instead of totally separate all day. Most importantly, Rocklin Ranch actually adheres to the Montessori method in a peaceful, organized and intentional way. For our family it has been so worth it.

A year before joining RMA I started asking moms in the community where their children go to…read morepreschool and if they like it, and time and time again RMA came up as being the go to preschool in the area. They have a waitlist for a reason. The grounds are beautiful with open space for kids to play and there are two locked entry points w security codes to get in; the grounds are fenced to keep kids safe. The classrooms are clean and Montessori educational items are placed at eye level accessible for children to interact with. Montessori language, such as calling the activities "jobs," is used, along with the traditional "walk around the sun" ceremony that takes place on a child's birthday. The school uses an app to communicate with parents showing pictures of their child during the day so you know what they're working on. I made it a point to check in w teachers at drop off/pick up time so there was always clear communication and collaboration with the school. The staff were all professional and kind in our experience. Our child has grown so much in the years we have been at RMA. At a recent elementary school assessment we were told she scored a grade level above academically on the kindergarten readiness test. Our child loves science after having weekly hands on science experiments in the classroom; she mastered letter and number recognition; she can write her name and has developed critical thinking skills thanks to her teachers and a school environment that encourages curiosity. The performances the school puts on throughout the year are really precious. The kids work hard at learning the songs and a lot of care goes into the events. I don't know the circumstances behind the negative reviews here, but I fully respect that Ms. Janet does not air any dirty laundry on a public forum like this. All I know is that RMA has a responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for the children enrolled, and from our own individual experience, they have done so. Our experience with RMA has been nothing but heartwarming and positive and we will miss it.

UPDATE 2 - While I respect that some families may have had positive experiences, it is important to…read morerecognize that not every parent or child undergoes the same kind of treatment, communication, or support from lead teachers. One parent's positive experience should not be used to dismiss or respond to concerns raised by other affected parents. There is no need to invalidate someone else's experience when the focus should simply be on sharing one's own. In our experience, concerns regarding ADHD and behavioral differences were discussed, but what was difficult was how those concerns were approached. Sensitive matters involving a child's struggles should remain professional and parent-centered, rather than becoming discussion points in ways that affect relationships with other families whose children were friends with mine. I have heard two of the parents approach me and letting me know that my child's conditions were discussed with them and told their kids not to be friends with him. Despite being uncomfortable and concerned, they informed me about this so I would be aware of it. What became especially concerning was when my child began coming home visibly distressed, crying, and repeatedly expressing that he felt pressured by the green class teacher into accepting the blame for an incident he consistently said he did not do. From our perspective as parents, it appeared that instead of carefully understanding the situation, there were moments where he felt pushed to agree with accusations or accept responsibility despite insisting otherwise. Watching a young child become emotionally distressed to the point of crying at home and describing feeling pressured in this way significantly escalated our concerns and aggravated an already difficult situation. More importantly, identifying concerns should also come with meaningful support and guidance. Instead of collaborative strategies, accommodations, or support to help my child succeed, it often felt like the child was only commented on having ADHD and also blamed for behaviors -- such as moving quickly through activities or transitioning to another task instead of staying engaged in one work for extended periods. Expecting a young child to remain focused on a single activity for more than 30 minutes without understanding developmental needs or learning differences did not feel supportive. When I approached the lead Green Class teacher to discuss how we speak to and guide our child when he was not listening, I was told that she had significant experience handling children and did not like parents giving suggestions. I found this response dismissive because, during a meeting when we genuinely asked for suggestions or strategies to better support our child, we were told there were none and were instead asked the same question in return. However, when I attempted to offer open suggestions based on what worked for our child, this was the response I received. This felt particularly concerning when it already seemed as though there were ongoing struggles in understanding, handling, and supporting our child's individual needs rather than working collaboratively to help him succeed. Comparing a 6-year-old child to a younger child, such as a 4-year-old, was also unhelpful and discouraging. Every child develops differently, and comparisons do not provide constructive support or understanding for a child's unique strengths and challenges.
